Would actually be very good for the GUKPT if Hoivold could win it, would bring hordes of Scandies to the rest of the tour, so Im gunning for Sloth FTW

I wasn't impressed with Perrins on my 200 table (even tho he went on to win it i dont think he played that well whilst i was sat with him)

Was impressed with Sudworth when he finalled the 300 with me, and impressed with Ajram when i was deep with him,

so Sudworth or Arjam ftw!

I'll go with Hoivold, he seemed like a nice guy on Poker Million this year and I'm not familiar with the other finalists

I played against sudworth in the 300 and was very impressed with how easily he attained chips, The guy def has some game and i'd be surprised if he didn't go very close here.

Also was at ramsey's first table at the start of this event.  He won a big pot off me, but was more impressed by his overall play, and i'm not shocked to see him at this ft. Obv this lad has many gears.

One of these 2 ftw.

Just to go back to yesterday's ruling, when I first gave my views was when we thought that Priyan had said "I've got to call" after the all-in bet has been made. However, if this was not the case, this changes everything.
The most shocking part of the decision for me was the farce of the TD coming across when the ruling had been half made, seeing Frazer's chips all over the line, and thinking that this was the state of play when Priyan made his comment. The TD has got to have the know-how and authority to establish the facts of the situation and make a ruling he believes in, rather than making a decision on part of the evidence, or wanting to back  up rhe rest of his team.

If it really is the case that this technically is the correct ruling now, that almost makes the situation worse. Either the situation has changed and the players were not told. Or a number of situations I have seen in the past years should have been enforced but never were, as the TD has made a bizarre and secret decision to suddnenly clamp down on a situation that everyone was familiar with.

I really don't think anyone should question Iwan Jones' integrity; when he said what he did, he could not even have known who it would benefit, and his comment was probably out of frustration of the same kind of ruling randomly being enforced and not enforced over the previous couple of days. But vul Priyan, must be so hard to take.

Gl to all; I played with Ramsay in Ireland, and was very impressed. No surprises at all to see a final table full of young players that we haven't heard much of before. Probably more to come!

Good luck to Ramsey and Andreas. I finalled the same £100rebuy as Nick Holbrook in the summer and he managed to run over the table, knocking everyone out himself so I think hes gonna be tough to beat.

Nicholas Holbrook wins the first hand with a raise, showing the Ad.

In the third hand, one of the players makes good on the plan to go after Andreas Hoivold. Hoivold raises to 24k and Ramsey Ajram reraises to 75k pushing the Norwegian out of the pot.

Richard Lewindon moves all-in on Keir Ratcliff's big blind but doesn't get called.

Good luck to Andreas. Would be a great boost for the GUKPT if an overseas player, and especially a former EPT winner, took this one down.

The one person I don't like in the whole piece is not Iwan, but Frazer. He starts inane, midly aggressive banter with anyone under the age of thirty throughout the hand, and so to then take a massive advanatge of this situation is a bit sick.

Mental note- next time I have the best hand against him, I will be asking "Are you going to call a bet?". Would this count under the same ruling?

Would be very interesting if Andreas wins, as it could bring a lot more Norwegians over. But is that a good thing for the players? This should be a quality final.

Im guessing but if he says Yes and its in a Grosvenor then he will have to call any bet you make!

Keir Ratcliff moves all-in next hand on the button for 85,500 over the top of Nathan Lee's initial raise. Call!

Ratcliff: Ahrt Qc

Lee: Jh Jc

Qs Kh 4d 6c 2c

Ratcliff doubles up and Lee is left very short indeed with just 46k.

And this is the craziness of the situation isn't it? 25/50 level, it's passed to you in the small blind with aces, and you ask the big blind "Will you call if I raise?". He answers "yes," and you move all-in. Same ruling? It logically should be.

Keir Ratcliff raises to 24k and gets Andreas Hoivold's big blind.

Nick Holbrook raises to 26.5k next hand and Nathan Lee shows 2h, choosing to preserve his 30k or so.

Andreas Hoivold raises on the button and Richard Lewindon moves in on the big blind. Hoivold folds. They are going after him!

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Brighton: Final Day

Nick Holbrook limps in 3rd position, James Sudworth limps behind, as does Andreas Hoivold. Richard Lewindon pushes for 126k more on the button.

Holbrook and Sudworth fold quickly but Hoivold takes a lot longer, staring at his opponent. Lewindon's poker face becomes an epic fail as he just collapses into laughter.

Ramsey Ajram is in every pot, first he raises to 28k UTG and gets the blinds.

Holbrook raises to 26.5k from mid-position taking Ajram's blind.

Ajram raises to 26k in the small blind, Bernard Litman reraises all-in from the big blind and Ajram instantly folds.

Ajram raises the button to 25k, Keir Ratcliff in the big blind says, "Dis geezer's fearless..." Ratcliff shows 4h and folds.

A couple of hands later and Ajram raises again taking Nick Holbrook's big blind this time...

Will anyone take him on?

Sudworth leads for 35k. Ratcliff moves in, Sudworth snap-folds.

Nick Holbrook raises to 28k taking Andreas Hoivold's big blind.

Hoivold raises to 30k in the small blind. Richard Lewindon thinks about shoving but folds.

Hoivold: 9c 9s

Ajram: Ahrt Ad

Andreas, "Nice timing."

But to be fair, although he did get upset at losing that pot to Andreas, that was the first flicker of emotion I've seen him make in 3 days.

Check....and check

3d

Check, Andreas bets 10k. Call

Matt Perrins raises to 30k, Nicholas Holbrook reraises to 60k. Perrins thinks for about 2 minutes before moving in. Holbrook instantly calls.

Perrins: 6c 6h

Holbrook: Kh Kd

8c 3d 9d Ks 7d

Matt Perrins is OUT in 8th place winning £6,820

I'm a little bit shocked by Perrins move there, Holbrook generally seems pretty solid and a min-reraise is always suspicious.

Lee and Perrins first two out. Saucy.

Rough counts:

Richard Lewindon -- 145k
Ramsey Ajram -- 148k
Bernard Litman -- 175k
Keir Ratcliff -- 400k
Nicholas Holbrook -- 780k
James Sudworth -- 240k
Andreas Hoivold -- 400k

Ramsey Ajram moves all-in, it's passed around to Nicholas Holbrook who calls.

Ajram: Kh Qd

Holbrook: Aspades Ks

Qd Td 2s Th 9s

A bit of justice for Ajram who moves back up to about 300k, Holbrook knocked down to around 630k, his lucky red hat failing him this time.

Now that he's back with a stack again the Ramsey Ajram Raising Show recommences.

He makes it 31k from the button and gets the blinds. He shows Aces.

Next hand he makes it 31k from the cut-off. Nicholas Holbrook decides to call, perhaps deciding he has to stand up to his opponent.

Holbrook bets 30k, Ajram quickly calls. Holbrook shows Kh 4c, Ajram flips Ac 8h before mucking them.

As I said, he's been fairly mellow/stoic over the last couple of days, I think it was mostly frustration at the rivered two outer against the player he probably respects the most on the table, plus perhaps a tiny bit of arrogance. ;)

...I'm too good for this fucking game

HOW MANY FINALS HE MADE????

the only guy that could ever say that was

Stu Ungar,
When anyone talks about the greatest poker players of all time, Stu Ungar's name will surface immediately. He is considered by many to have been the greatest No Limit Hold'em player of all time.

Ungar was a three-time World Champion (with five WSOP bracelets). He won ten major No Limit Hold'em championship events (in which the buy-ins were $5,000 or higher). Amazingly, Ungar only played in about 30 of these championship events in his lifetime.

It's passed around to Andreas (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=467) Hoivold (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=467) in the small blind. Ramsey Ajram says, "Come on, limp, let's see a flop..."

Hoivold takes back his 6k and makes it 30k. Ajram thinks for a moment and reraises to 112k. Hoivold quickly moves all-in and Ajram looks at his stack of which a fair chunk is in the middle, though he has about 240k back. After about 20 seconds of thinking he says, "Call."

Hoviold: Jh Jd

Ajram: Ac Ts

Ramsey Ajram is OUT in 6th place winning £11,520

Andreas Hoivold briefly came by to say he thought Ramsey Ajram overplayed that last hand, "I never will have worse than A-T moving in there, maybe one time every now and then I might have K-Q, but even then he's not really far ahead."

And on the tournament?

"If I can manage to knock out Nick then that will be nice."

First hand back and action already.

Nick Holbrook raises to 40k, James Sudworth reraises to 140k and Bernard Litman moves all-in for 164.5k. Nick gets out of the way and Sudworth make the obligatory call saying, "I'm flushing."

Sudworth: Aspades 8s

Litman: Ahrt Qc

Tc 2c 4c...(James, "That's not good.")...7c Qh

Litman doubles up to about 350k.

With Ramsey Ajram gone, it'll be interesting to see how much Hoivold will put the pedal to the metal. Keir Ratcliff has been happy to play back at him once, Sudworth is not afraid to call down with ace high against him, while Holbrook and Litman have played slightly less against him.

Earlier everyone wanted to go after the Norwegian, but now that he has the chip lead, it remains to be seen whether anyone will carry on with the aggression against him.

James raises to 40k from the cut-off/UTG+1, Keir Ratcliff folds in the big blind muttering, "It's always the first card..."

Ratcliff limps next hand and he and Nick Holbrook check a 3h Kh Ahrt Th to the turn where Ratcliff wins with a 26k bet.

Keir Ratcliff raises to 36k on the button, Nick Holbrook makes it 114k in the small blind. Ratcliff folds Kc Jc face up.

Andreas raises to 39k. Nick Holbrook calls in the big but folds to a 52k bet on the Qh 4c Td flop.

Andreas raises the next hand also, again to 39k. James Sudworth surrenders his big blind when he decides 5-2o is not worth playing.

Keir raises to 34k and takes the blinds.

Andreas raises to 43k from the small blind. Bernard raises to 100k from the big blind. A brisk call from Andreas who says, "I check dark."

Bernard moves all-in, Andreas folds.

Nick then puts on his red hat, which apparently gives him luck.

Andreas Hoivold raises to 48k and takes Nicholas Holbrook's big blind. He shows Ad Th.

Andreas raises the next hand also, raising once more to 48k, James Sudworth calls in the big blind.

Sudworth check/folds to a 57k bet from Hoivold.

James Sudworth raises to 50k on the button, Andreas Hoivold reraises to 130k from the small blind. Sudworth moves all-in. Call.

I haven't really spoke much about Bernard Litman, but it's hard to fault his final table display so far. He's been short stacked pretty much the whole way until he doubled up through James Sudworth, but since then he's really accumulated chips well and looks to be chip leader at the moment. Don't count him out yet.

Gl to all left.

Do other people think the standard of the GUKPT has gone up? And how much?

There seem to be enough young players doing well that some exciting new talent will emerge for sure, but I would say the biggest difference is with the bad players. There just aren't very many any more. I remember at the Cardiff leg in the first year Nik Persaud saying "all you have to do the first few levels is wait for someone to give you a Christmas present, and then start playing with 20k," and though an exaggeration, it wasn't too far from the truth. It seems now, however, there are no easy chips. Some people play too passively, and everyone can make a mistake, but nobody any more gives their chips away.

Think it's going to be an interesting year on the GUKPT, especially if an Anders victory adds a few Scandanavians to the mix.

Nick Holbrook turns over a worried Ac 4h, but he's in almost as good shape as possible as Litman turns over 3d 3h

A couple of shouts of "Come on Nick!" as that pot pushes Nick up to the 650k mark. Bernard Litman is still the chip leader though.

Down to about 400k, Andreas pushes all-in over the top of Nick Holbrook's 56k button raise. Some gurnage from Nick (the first piece of gurnage of the year, yay!) but ultimately he folds. Andreas is just under half a million chips, James and Nick are just over half a million and Bernard has about 800k

James Sudworth raises to 60k in the small blind. Andreas Hoivold makes it 160k with about 260k behind.

James checks stacks and makes the call.

Ahrt 2c 7c

James checks a second time and Andreas bets a very small 120k. James quickly folds.

James tries to raise the button again next hand to 50k but Andreas goes after him again, making it 150k. A pensive James folds again, leaving himself with about 400k.

Andreas takes a pot blind on blind vs Bernard Litman on the river of an Aspades Kh 6s 4c 2s board with a 25k bet.

The next hand is being dealt and Nicholas Holbrook is already warning James Sudworth about eyeing up his blind. I get the impression that when Nicholas feels people are picking on his big blind, he starts defending a lot more, being prepared to call with some very marginal holdings such as the Kh 3h vs Andreas and the K-4off vs Ramsey earlier.

James raises to 60k anyway and Nicholas duly calls.

Ahrt 8h 8s

Nicholas checks, James bets 90k and Nicholas goes to fold, but then pulls the cards back which almost causes James to muck his hand. Naughty. Nicholas then does actually fold and James wins the pot.

James Sudworth raises to 60k from the button. Andreas Hoivold reraises to 200k from the small blind. Bernard Litman passes. James thinks for a minute, probably decided he's had enough of Hoivold's reraises and moves in. Hoivold calls.

Sudworth: Ad Jd

Hoivold: Ahrt Kc

Some of James' more overzealous fans start shouting, "A Jack always comes!!!!"

Bernard raises to 60k from the button. James Sudworth reraises to 180k from the big blind and gets Bernard to fold.

Nick raises to 60k from the button, winning the blinds and antes.

It's passed to Andreas in the small blind but he folds showing 8-3 off and Bernard Litman gets a walk.

Bernard Litman raises to 60k in the small blind, but Nick Holbrook reraises to 160k. Bernard calls very quickly.

8c 5s 3h

Bernard quickly moves all-in for about 510k. Nick doesn't call instantly which means we know he's going to pass. Which he does.

Next hand and Andreas moves all-in and gets it through, before getting a walk the hand after that.

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Brighton: Final Day
Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 18, 2009, 09:45:30 PM
Andreas pushes from the button. He's got almost 300k now which means the others have become a bit more reticent about calling what is ostensibly about 40% of their stack.

Andreas now raises to 57k from UTG/cutoff and gets the blinds and antes.

Someone shouts, "Keep going Andreas!" which I think is a nice touch, since he doesn't really have anyone railing him here, before the same voice yells an ominous warning "You're gonna get called soon..." and then "Beat him up Nick!"

I agree completely with celtic. Andreas is aclassy guy, and friendly to anyone, even in defeat. We should be welcoming him as a great addition to the tour, but it's going to be hard for him to have a good time with this kind of stuff.

Is it an insult to someone to bluff? Are this guy's friends telling us this is something he has never done?

As I said, they're all having a drink at the bar now so I'm sure everything is fine. Andreas seems still fairly chirpy, and it must be added that all the players at the final table have acted with total class today.

Most of the time, unless a given track record I put silly-shout-type-stuff down to emotions getting the better of the rail (who are sometimes on the rail because they didn't keep their emotions in check on the tournament ;))

Andreas raises to 77k, Nick Holbrook moves in from the small blind. Andreas shows the Aspades and folds, he's really short now.

Next hand is Andreas' big blind. James Sudworth limps in and bets out an Ahrt Ks 9c flop. The Norwegian folds.

Andreas pushes from the small blind and Bernard Litman folds.

Bernard raises to 80k in the small blind. It's Nick's turn to fold.

It's passed around to James Sudworth in the small blind who sets Andreas in. Andreas squeezes his cards before announcing call.

Sudworth: 9s 9d

Hoivold: Aspades Th

6h Jd 6d Js 3d

Andreas Hoivold is OUT in 4th place winning £18,560

He goes out to a round of applause which is then followed by a few "Ship it" shouts from some of the Nick and James fans, who are delighted their boys have laddered.

Bernard Litman raises from the small blind and Nick Holbrook defends.

Kd 2d 4h

The chips go in so fast I don't see how the bets go.

Holbrook: Kc 2c

Litman: Td 9d

Bernard has Nicholas covered.

Nicholas Holbrook is OUT in 3rd place winning £28,790

Chip Counts (Approx)

Bernard -- 1.66 million
James -- 700k

You have to give both these players their due, both have been so close to being down and out and now are HU for the 1st GUKPT title of 2009. I don't know of any deals done.

Hi mate - nice run but what can you say?

I had dinner in Vegas with Andreas during the WSOP and he was running really bad but his enthusiasm for the game is amazing. Christ he was even willing to listen to me babbling on!

Pretty sure Bernard will do a deal, he prefers not to play heads up.

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Brighton: Final Day
Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 18, 2009, 11:05:12 PM
James makes it 70k to play. (There's no antes HU btw)

Bernie calls.

8c 7c Js

Check from Bernie, James bets 100k. Call.

7d

Check check.

5h

Bernie declares 200k, James folds quickly. It's one way traffic at the moment.

James raises to 70k and Bernie calls but then folds to a 100k bet on a raggy flop this time, allowing the youngster to get a few chips back.

Bernard raises to 70k, James thinks for a moment before moving in. Bernard folds.

Next hand and James limps in, Bernard bumps it up to 100k. Call.

Aspades 3h 3s

Check check

Before the Qh turn has been dealt, Bernard announces 100k, James looks pained but folds.

A rare limped pot.

2h 7c 6s

Check check.

3h

Check to James who bets 40k. Call.

Kd

Check check. Bernie's 9s 6c is good.

Bernie raises to 100k on the button. James says, "How much?" but then moves all-in.

Bernie's turn to look a little uncomfortable, but he asks for a count.

It's 540k more to Bernie, which he baulks at and folds

Title: Re: BlueSq.com GUKPT Brighton: Final Day
Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 18, 2009, 11:26:03 PM
A couple of hands where Bernie gets most of those chips back before he raises again to 100k. James moves in once more and Bernie this time calls after twenty seconds.

James: Qh Qs

Bernie: Kd 2d

4s Js 9h 2s 8d

James doubles through to about 1.1 million. Bernie has 1.2 million

A bit rash from Bernie there, I think he must have got a bit impatient and wanted to hope he just had live cards. We're now close to even.

Just as we move to the 20k/40k level, the two players get it all preflop.

Bernie: Jh Jc

James: 7d 7h

8d Td 6d

Huge straight flush draw now for James means we're flipping!

Th

No help

Tc

And Bernard Litman survives a massive sweat meaning...

James Sudworth is OUT in 2nd place winning £43,480

And...

Bernard Litman is the GUKPT Brighton Champion winning £70,520!!!!

Winner Photos to follow.
