As Tikay-O goes to take the milk, Chompthro pulls back. "There's one condition though," he warns. "My arch nemesis and ever-living source of evil, Sicilian-Ra, must be insulted in the tournament clock." "This can be arranged," answers Tightgra swiftly. "Sicillian-Ra has a Broadband connection in the Black Pyramid and will undoubtedly read the insult." On that reassuring note, Chompthro passes Tikay-O the milk.

"But who can we lure in with our newly acquired milk at such short notice?" asks Tightgra worriedly. "Don't worry," calms Tikay-O as he casually lifts his sword into the air. "THUNDER!" Tikay-O swipes the air with his sword like a child with a light saber. "THUNDER!... THUNDER!" Tightgra checks his watch and waves his hand impatiently. "THUNDERBLONDES HOOOOOOOOOO!!!" There's a flash of light and, from the pulsating Eye of the Thundera, a giant symbol of a blonde poker chip with a naked woman in the middle appears in the sky. "Wow, you can see the nipples when it's that big." observes Tightgra as his tail wags frantically. "Is she the Ho?" asks Chompthro.

In a nearby village, former Thunderblondes WilySnoopy and WilyFloppy are participating in a spot of heads up for rolls. "You're getting pwned, ya fish," slates WilyFloppy. As WilySnoopy looks up at the summons in the sky, WilyFloppy swipes some chips from his stack. "Lolz, I wonder what they want," ponders WilySnoopy. "They probably want us to update Walsall, imo" replies WilyFloppy, adding the chips to his own stack. "I read it on the forum earlier." "Well, I'd hate to be greedy, Grosvenor Walsall is possibly the most exotic location on Third Earth with its er... nearby cinema and stuff. Why don't you take the job?" "No, 'fraid not, it's my mother's birthday. You should go." WilySnoopy rubs his chin pensively. "Well, I suppose they do have a free buffet. It's not tez is it?" "[ ] Course not, it's tippety-top," replies WilyFloppy rubbing his stomach. "Yum yum, Walsall buffet ftw." "Well, in that case, I'll do it." WilyFloppy sniggers mischievously as WilySnoopy jumps on his tractor and makes his way towards the giant chip.

WilySnoopy joins Tikay-O, Tightgra and Chompthro in the blonde's Lair. "Thanks for offering to update, WilySnoopy," says Tikay-O. "There's a bowel of milk in it for you if you can survive three days." Tightgra turns to Chompthro and whispers, "Ha, he wont' stand a chance going solo with that field, he'll collapse before the end of Day 2 and that bowel of milk will be all mine... all mine! You hear me, aaaaall mineeeee!!! Moahahahaha!" "Yes, I hear you," growls Chompthro. "Stop shouting, you're meant to be whispering." WilySnoopy looks over suspiciously as Tightgra licks his lips.   

"Survival will be easy," claims WilySnoopy confidently, as I have a secret weapon. Suddenly, the window flings open, a pole hits the floor and in vaults LittleMissCheetara, notepad and pen in hand. "Meet my helper for the weekend," continues WilySnoopy. Tightgra's shoulders drop. "Oh fiddlesticks, I really wanted that bowel of milk." "Come on, hop to it!" orders LittleMissCheetara as she pokes WilySnoopy's tush with her pole. "Can't stand around here all day, we've got an update to do."

There was a small bet of 175 with three callers, one of whom was the ginger ninja. With a 9c hitting the turn, Woodley bet 1,300 and Phillips called. On the 2c river (money card!), it was Phillips who came out firing, to the tune of 4,000, and Woodley called... and mucked.

I remember the early days of Bolton and Cardiff in the first year, sitting at tables and not recognising anyone. Does anyone else think the GUKPT has got so much tougher the last couple of years?

A simple affair according to roving reporter Fran, all the spondoolies flying in on an king high flop with Greco's aces a country mile ahead of Trigger's A-K.

Before that hand, I also saw Greco reach the river of a 7s 9h Qc Kc Aspades with Jerome (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) Bradpiece (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199). After the turn was checked by both parties, Greco paused momentarily on the end, before moving all in for 3,750. As Bradpiece tanked, Greco remained sitll as water, his experience in front of the camera over the years perhaps aiding his ability to remain composed. After a minute or two, Bradpiece made the fold, and Greco took the pot.

Pretty sick table draw for your brother - he seemed fairly solid when i played him.

I think any players 1st GUKPT is a massive learning curve - i played like an uber nit - and had a totally sick table. Thinking back, not sure ive had a worse one since!

As for the fields - they are def some of the toughest ive played. I dont think you ever get a table that you can full on abuse, you just hope to just get 1 or 2 good players not 6 or 7........ oh wait..........

iwan has got to be one off the most underrated players on the circuit.

We're now on a break, but as the players dispersed, Steve Jelinek grumbled his way towards me. "Did you see that pot there?" he asked. "It crippled me." As I reluctantly confessed to missing it (I'm an updater, it's my job to listen to repetetive anecdotes), Jelinek began his tale of woe. "The flop was 9-8-4, and Dave Smith bet out. I had 7-6 and made the call. I hit the five turn and called a big bet, but the river came a four, and after I called 3,000 on the end, he showed 9-9 for the house."

As a result, Jelinek is now down to a paltry 3,000. At the other end of the see-saw, Smith shoots up to 14,000.

Was just thinking earlier what a shame it was that there would be no update on here today. Congrats to all those that made this happen today.

Julian thought fir a minute and moved all in himself Iwan quickly folded

Julian showed  Ahrt Kh and Tim showed pocket 66 for middle set

The turn bought the  2h to give Julian the flush draw but the river was another king to make FLanders the full house

Dave Colclough has eliminated John Tabatabai, and although Jon Kalmar tried to make El Blondie "look like a fish" by reporting that "he called an all-in with ace high", he had a rather big ace in A-K. Still, Tabatabai had queens, so it was your classic coin-flip, and one in which the veteran took down when a second bullet hit the board.

Nope, it's not a double bluff like Brucie used to do on Place Your Cards Right - Sam Trickett has indeed been eliminated. It took two hands in the end, although I think the first one perhaps made the biggest dent. With all the chips going in for a 33,000 pot, Trickett's pocket kings looked in superb shape against Josh Tyler's pocket queens, but a lesbian threesome on the flop left Trickett with just a couple of hundred chips and an aburpt end to what I'm sure was an otherwise enjoyable massage.

However, it was Hickman who squirmed out of his strait-jacket, the Qd Ts 3h flop giving him the lead with a set of queens. James Keys has been eliminated. With Josh Tyler limping under-the-gun, James Keys pushed all in for 4,200 with J-T, but was called by Tyler who held A-5. Blank board meant Keys was looking for the door.

Also on his way home is Carl Thomas who found himself in dominating shape with Qd Qh versus the Ac Jh of Paul Newman. A bullet on the Tc Aspades Td 8c 5c board, however, meant Newman got to see the colour of Thomas' money and the latter was sent hurtling home.

Ruining the potential for a triplet of departures, Steve Jelinek managed to double up, but he needed the aid of aces to do it. Steve Jelinek is like limescale, you just can't get rid of him. Despite being down to just a few thousand a hand or two ago, the Jelly is now on circa 14,000. On an 8d Ks 3d flop, Jelinek checked in the small blind, Mohammed Hassan bet 800 in the big and the cut-off, who I can only assume limped made the call. I'm not sure how he got so low, but with just a bowl of rice left, Nicky Evans threw in his shrapnel with J-T, and hailed down a taxi as his opponent showed Q-Q. However, a dramatic 7-7-9-T-8 board had the rail celebrating and kept the Brighton lad alive, albeit with a paltry stack of 5,000.

A couple of double ups. Firstly MZ Hussain shooting up to 8,000 with queens v threes all in preflop, and then Jimmy Morgan with aces versus K-Q on a queen high board. Morgan now on 15.500.

A short-stacked Dave Smith is now so short-stacked that he doesn't actually have any chips. His tournament life was left hanging by a thread when he pushed all in with 8-9 versus K-K, and although he had a gutshot straight draw on the 5-Q-J flop, and a chance for a split pot when a fourth diamond came with the two on the turn, no such luck emerged on the jack river, and he was gone.

I joined the action with the board reading 6c 7c 3c Ah, 13,000 in the pot, and 9,500 lying in front of Martyn Cavanagh. The decision lay on Trevor Reardon, someone who never makes a rash decision. On this occasion, he looked tortured, his head resting in his hand as he mulled over a seemingly taxing decision. After asking Cavanagh how much he had back (10,000 was the answer), Reardon abruptly grabbed a column of high denomination chips and plonked them across the line, as if to say, "Fuck it, let's dance". But his expression soon turned sour as Cavanagh flipped over Kc Tc for the flopped flush. Reardon tried to muck into his cards, so it was clear he was drawing dead, but the dealer turned them over anyhow to reveal Aspades Qc, thus making the river academic. In fact, I won't even tell you what that river was. How do you like that?

Reardon now down to his starting stack after that recent misstep.

Possibly focused on avoiding a heart it was the bullet that came, the Ks turn being followed by an Ac river to give Gwibbo a potentially chip leading pot. Gosh, they're dropping like a whore's draws here in Walsall, MZ Hussain the latest to depart. All in with sixes versus the tens of Marcus-Bebb Jones, Hussain will have been mighty relieved to have seen a six hit the flop, especially with a ten already exposed. However, this is a pastime for those with hard skins, and with just one negative card in the deck, out it came on the river to give Bebb-Jones the bigger set. Ben Vinson raised to 2,600 from mid position, Joe Grech called, as did Martyn Cavanagh on the button, but Jerome O'Shea was less hospitable, pushing for an additional 9,600 in the big blind. Vinson folded with a grimace, but Grech was having none of it and swiftly waved his hands forward and announced all-in. Cavanagh folded. "I think you're ahead, Joe," claimed O'Shea.

Level nine, the current level, will be the final level of the day.

Iwan Jones has 18,000 and Martyn Cavanagh has 37,000. More excitingly however, on the same table, Dan Carter has doubled up to what I would guess is around the 50-60,000 mark with Kc Kh versus Trevor Reardon's Ac Kd. The board came 5s Td 8c Js 6h, allowing Carter, who was looming over the table, to breath a big sigh of relief. That defeat leaves Reardon with a lowly 10,000.

The idea is that everyone pushes all-in and Snoops can get a good nights sleep.

Whilst I have a spare moment, we lost Ash Pervais earlier on in the level. I joined the action with the board reading Kd 4s 8h 4d Aspades and Josh Tyler punching the air in delight with 8d 8c versus Ahrt 5h. "Yes, yes, come on!" he exclaimed with his arms aloft. "Who won that hand?" joked Martyn Cavanagh from a nearby table. "Get it quietly, Josh. You're an adult." tutted Paul Bracken from the rail (he may also have used a rude word that may not slip through our filter). "Get it quietly?" added Jim Reid. "This kid doesn't do it quietly."

Nevertheless, Tyler did indeed take the pot, to give himself a stack of 50,000. Pervais, meanwhile, was left with just several thousand, which went in a hand or two later with Ahrt 8h versus Qh 8d. But when the chips are down, the Poker Gods show no mercy, and as the board came Qs 3d 5d Kd 7s Pervais merely chuckled, said nice hand and wished his opponents good luck.

It has now been announced that the clock remain on 19.35, and all remaining players will play eight hands, at which point the day's play will end.

Bedlam here, the players are scratching their heads, the dealers are wondering how they'll keep count and I have no idea what I'm going to do about the tournament clock. I mean, should I let it run, or put it on a break, even though they're not actually on a break. Oh, my poor head.

Yes, I was one of the people lobbying Jon to change this and fair play to him for listening. Stops people dwelling and running down the clock to avoid having to pay their big blind before the end of the day and subsequent redraw for day 2

ummm personally,i think stopping the clock is a load of poo poo.its not good for the players or the dealers.the gukpt is of a good structure so why not just play the level?surely its not necessary and im sure the players wont be happy with this very strange decision.as for the suprise i thought the free beer option was a better one than this load of ****

im sorry but using the clock is part of the game and always has been.try watching or playing in the ept,wsop or any big games of poker.and playing just 8 more hands wont stop players from dwelling up,taking their time or just shoving cos they dont want to come back the next day with a few chips. Think you've missed the point here, it's stops people running the clock down to avoid paying their blinds before the day ends. Try playing any of the big games of poker of which you speak in the Bellagio. Seems to work ok.

i see your point and have been lucky enough to play in the bellagio cup.but personally i think theres nothing wrong in using the clock to your advantage.managng to avoid paying the blinds is surely just another part of it and has always been.it is part of the game.it also makes a bit of a nonsense of the levels..seeing as many players actually plan strategy and their changing of gears this becomes rather difficult if the level just gets stopped without warning.ask the dealers im sure they dont like it either but we are both entitled to our opinions.i think we will just to have to disagree.good luck to dan carter,iwan jones,martyn cavanagh and jeff hemmerman  Ahrt Ac

A few things to comment on.
Out of turn verbal declarations are still binding. It was announced at the beginning of every tournament this week. So far it has caused no problems. Lets leave further discussion of this for another thread.
Stopping the clock and playing 8 extra hands - if we had not done this it is likely that only 5 more hands would have been played due to people slow playing, so it enables more play not less. Slow playing is bad etiquette and has no place in the modern game.
