Title: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 02:47:37 PM Hello and welcome back to Walsall where the early birds are having brunch and I've set up before most of the players have arrived. The players are counting out their baggies of chips and it looks like they're playing right next to where we've set up so this should be about as live an update as it's possible to get. Good luck blondeites! (Snoop is off to hover vulture-like around Dave...) Shuffle up and deal! Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:22:27 PM Yep, I survived.
Hi all. Just caught an early hand. DC, very short stacked and on the big blind, has just won an extra few thousand. Crucial for him at this stage. N Hussain limped under the gun. The small blind called. DC checked. After checking a board of: Jh 8c Tc Qd the river came 8d small blind and DC checked again. N Hussain bet 3k. DC dwelled before calling the 3k and leaving himself with 2k. DC turns over Ts 3h. N Hussain shows a stonecold bluff As 7c DC creeping up gradually. Go the Colclough!!! Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 03:24:04 PM It appears that Big Shot Ian Fraser is a no-show with his short stack. It's just not enough chips, just not enough money yatta yatta. Apparently there was a big all-in yesterday (50k or so) with a similar reason behind it, "I don't want to come back tomorrow with x-few chips..." Thanks to Junior for explaining the oddly empty seat.
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:28:29 PM Dave Clark just pushed all-in after Alan Davies had raised to 4.6k.
Alan Davies passed. No hands shown. Out of the corner of my eye, I've just noticed DC pushing all-in. Our roving reporter Jen is on the case. How is everyone today? Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 03:31:45 PM El Blondie gets all-in again (as expected), pushing in late position for the full 12k. Luke Patten called from the small blind, and original raiser D. Sami goes into the tank before passing what he said was a big pair ("Right" says Tikay, who's turned up in 425 gear). Dave shows As Kc, and says, "nice hand" as Luke shows Ac Kh. So, with a raggy non-suit-threatening flop, no double but a bit of a raise absorbed.
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:35:54 PM On DC's table the following hand unfolded.
Harpit Gurnan flatcalls in earlyish position. Luke Patten raises to 6k from the button. Harpit calls. The flop comes 5d Jd 6s Harpit bets 6k. Patten reraises 20k. Harpit thinks and thinks and thinks... and thinks before passing. He shows the Jc. Patten mucks without showing and Harpit is left to wonder if he folded the best hand. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: julian on November 27, 2005, 03:37:13 PM great reporting troops,

The board: 5h 6h Ac 3h 2d And we have a new chip leader in Anthony Nicholls... Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 27, 2005, 03:39:40 PM Aaaayaaaaaaaar! Report to follow from snoops....
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: RED-DOG on November 27, 2005, 03:42:13 PM Dave Clark just pushed all-in after Alan Davies had raised to 4.6k. Alan Davies passed. No hands shown. Out of the corner of my eye, I've just noticed DC pushing all-in. Our roving reporter Jen is on the case. How is everyone today? I got a seat in the laddies big money, finally won a race, first time in 3 years Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:42:24 PM Good news for all you Womble fans! The fella has just doubled up!!
After some preflop action with Alan Davies, the flop comes: 7s 8d Jh Womble moves all-in from the small blind for 8.3k. Alan Davies quickly calls. Turn = Kd River = Td Womble survives and is back in business. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:43:46 PM Anthony Nicholls is chip leader with 170k.
Most of his chips were prised ::) away from Alan McLean. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 03:43:52 PM And ANOTHER big pot for Dave - this time holding 5s 5h on a board which had not only a third 5d on it, but held a Kd which kept his opponent calling with Ks 5c all the way. Jonathan Raab says "He's doubled, no, trebled, no, MORE than trebled since it started!" His enthusiasm is infectious; I'm totally rooting for a big blonde comeback.
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Dewi_cool on November 27, 2005, 03:45:57 PM OK I am lumping it on El Blondie. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:50:38 PM Womble just added several more thousand to his stack.
His preflop raise found one caller in Andy Gomm. The board of: Kd Ks 6h 4c 9s was meekly checked down. Gomm shows Ts Tc. Womble turns over Jd Jc and takes the pot with two pair. That Womble's progressing nicely. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 03:51:43 PM And here's the blonde one playing a terribly relaxed short stack, next to Harprit Gurnam.

Picked Womble yesterday and DC today. Anti-boking device has new batteries Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:55:44 PM That Womble's at it again. He's keeping this beagle busy today.
Seeing action for the first time today, Barney Boatman bets 2.6k into a Jd 5h 6s Td board. Womble flat calls the bet. River = 4c Both check. Womble rakes in a few extra chips with Kd Ts. Barney mucks. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 03:57:01 PM Greg Hill OUT -
Another victim of Anthony Nicholls, Greg saw him limp into a pot ("not an unusual occurrence") and found Ah 7h in the small blind. He made it up, the bb checked, and the flop came A 2 Q. This looked pretty good to Greg, who bet out 4k into a 5k pot, but he got raised by limper Anthony, whom he reasoned was unlikely to have a bigger Ace. Therefore it all went in, and Anthony showed Ac Jd, taking him out. "He's got big chips, he's pushing them around a bit. Although he's raised, I think I've got the best hand, it's that simple." Anthony Nicholls: 208,000! That certainly is big chips. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: rimsfs on November 27, 2005, 03:59:11 PM hi could u tell me how the blacpool boys are doin

I had words with him this morning about that ;)
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:59:47 PM D Sami is OUT.
Sami was tapping with queens preflop and came up against N Hussain's tens. All the chips went in and, to Sami's dismay, a ten flopped and the local was sent packing. A danger man is gone. Nice guy too. 'Has gears,' as Tony said. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: strange1 on November 27, 2005, 04:04:19 PM Hi Jen,

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 04:05:26 PM Steve Bovis is OUT.
All-in preflop, Bovis' As Js was no match for N Hussain's Kc Ks, and after no help on the board, Bovis exits the comp. Good choice on backing Womble, Robert. For once, you're not giving someone the kiss of death. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 04:06:17 PM Blinds are up - 1,000 - 2,000 now.
Micky Wernick took out young R. Shorcott, leaving DC as the only hat-wearer in the final four tables. Fascinating tidbits, eh? Micky now has about 100,000. He'd raised in the small blind, and the young guy made a (big) move all-in. Micky called "straight away" according to Mr. Hill with 2s 2h! R. Shorcott held Jh 9d and the deuces held. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 27, 2005, 04:08:39 PM Blue Square Qualifier v Blue Square Qualifier hand has just occured.

He moved it in with Kc Qc, and found raiser Luke Patten on As Js. The board came (non-suited) A 5 10 K 4 and by the turn it was all looking a bit like curtains. And with that exit, they're down to three tables. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 04:14:56 PM We're now down to 3 tables after El Blondie's table split.
He's now sitting to Barney Boatman's left. Two of the best players here are now in very close vacinity. ... but Jen and I reckon Dave and Barney are pretty good too. :D Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 04:17:25 PM The two biggest names here are Darren Grosvenor and Anthony Nicholls.

We were wondering here (well, Tikay was posing one of his guessing game questions): What time do y'all reckon the final table (nine-handed) will start? I said 7:30 and they all laughed. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 04:29:13 PM A. Nicholls - 204.5k
S. Wilsdon - 22k T. Falla - 28.5k Anthony Nicholls is still chip leader. He said he was after the win, not the money. I asked him to give me the dosh when he won then. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 04:30:54 PM Here's Womble checking out his hand. Now that Howard Plant's arrived on his table it's a bit louder (although the Magician is pretty short, things like "I could be back in bed in an hour" are flying around). There's also a bit of controversy as two stray 1,000 chips find their way into contention. You'd think people nearing a final would keep a tight rein on their precious chips, but oh no.

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 04:46:01 PM Average stack 58.9k.
Blinds are now 1k and 2k. Dave Clark's preflop raise of 12k was just reraised by M Alden for another 20k. Dave Colclough seemed to consider joining in the party, but he folded. Dave Clark also mucked and Alden took the pot there and then. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 04:48:15 PM 15 minutes til the chip-counting opportunity provided by the break (oh goody!) Kevin Zarandi's streak continues as he doubles up off Alan Mclean in the following manner - Alan re-raised Micky Wernick's under the gun raise to 26k, which Kevin just flat called on the button, despite the fact that that left him with just 15k behind. That was enough of the hand for Micky, and he passed. The flop came Ac Qc 7d. Check, check (curiouser and curiouser, I thought). Then the blank-looking turn ( 9s) saw Alan put Kevin all in with his Jd Js, and Kevin Zarandi call with his Ks Kd! The river was the Tc and that's another double up for Kevin. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 05:00:12 PM Current chip leader, Anthony Nicholls, has 252.5k.

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 05:32:50 PM Big action on the chip leader's table.
Ian Woodley raises to 10k preflop. Anthony Nicholls flatcalls. Alan McLean moves all-in from the big blind. Dwell of the day goes to Ian Woodley. He dwells longer than Carlo in full dwelling mood. It's 76.5k for him to call. More dwelling. Then some more. Then with one final dwell, he calls. Nicholls reluctantly folds his As Tc leaving McLean and Woodley to do battle. Woodley turns over Ac Ks, McLean shows 9s 9d. Board comes: 8h 2h 8d 3s Jd McLean takes the pot and is now a real forced to be reckoned with. Expect some bullying ahead. (iii) Dave Colclough is cold decked when his KK runs into Womble's AA. No help on the board and Womble doubles up. He limped from the small blind with Ad 6d. Alan McLean raised from the big blind with Kc Kh. N Hussain moves over the top for all his chips. Alan McLean calls quicker than lightning. Board comes: Jc Jd 2s 3h Qs Alan McLean is now well stacked up and challenging the chip leader. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 05:55:51 PM Permanent short stack Howard Plant moved in in early position for 9,000. It folded round (after some serious dwelling on the part of Dave Clark) to Dave, who re-raised all-in for 19,500. So they were heads up with Dave's 8h 8c against Howard's Ks Kh. The board came Ts 3d 9s 6c Ah, at which point Womble said, "Say thank you to Mr. Colclough - I was calling with my 9 10 if he didn't do that."

Flop 8c 5c 9c both check turn Js both check, but both dwell before doing so. the river is the 7c Mark counts out a pile of chips, looking like he's going to bet it, then checks. Andy also counts out chips, stares Mark in the eye and looks certain to make a bet, but his hand trembles and he finally checks as well. The board came 2h Td Qh 4h 4s and he stayed in the lead, getting about 40k.
19 players left after the sudden demise of Dave Colclough, who having come back as quite definitely the shortest stack, outlasted a whole table in a chip collecting rush. Now he's off to take some money off some students (or vice versa)... Back here Mark Alden has exited after such a promising start to the day (Jonathan 'eagle-eyes' Raab has the details). And 'Q' has been busy since the early hours of this morning setting up the old televised final area, which he assures us would be "ready to go straight away." The £100 rebuy event is just about to start, and we were somewhat in the way, being positioned on one of the empty tables. Well, it's not empty any more...

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 08:40:17 PM In fact, play has been temporarily suspended as the final 13 are set up in the final area (the card room bit that isn't up some stairs or by the table games) and so the TV table must sit patiently until they dispose of the next four. Here's an overview of one of the tables, just pre-move to keep you interested (a little) until play recommences.

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 08:57:15 PM Kevin Zarandi is OUT
He was short stacked and went all-in on the small blind after the rest of the table had passed. Dave Clark looks down to find Ks Kd and calls in a flash. Zarandi is forced to show his Jc 3d. A board of 7h As 9d 5h 9s is no help and Zorandi is sent packing. 12 left. The snopster is currently considering sitting down at one of the tables with some chips from home. I think Dani might notice though. Worth a try? Bad..) as both tables got a pre-flop re-raise all in, one from Womble, one from Mickey.
Womble re-raised Darren Grosvenor's 28k by about that again and got a reluctant call for his Ad Ks from Darren's Ac Qh. Flop: 8c Jh 7d Turn: 9h River: Qs So Womble is an unlucky 12th. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 09:05:53 PM As far as Mickey Wernick's all-in, it was over the top of the exact same size raise (28k) from Anthony Nicholls, who called him with his Ac Jc. Mickey held As Qc.
His flop: 7s Kd 4c Turn: Tc (bit of a breath holder) River: 2h and he doubles up off the chip leader. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: ariston on November 27, 2005, 09:09:39 PM Just spoke to womble the reraise was around the 60k mark. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 09:13:43 PM Yes Ariston, you're right, the dealer had matched the original raise and I subtracted it from the stack Womble pushed in. It was an optimistic call.

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 27, 2005, 09:28:24 PM Personally I would say no it does not affect it. There have been many many deals like that this year and in no cases has it affected the points. In no way does it affect the competitiveness. Its more of a saver. If anyone in authority decides it means minimum points, it will have to apply to all those previous tournaments and will devalue and make a mockery of the whole ranking system. I will fight the corner if it comes to it.

Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 27, 2005, 09:31:29 PM Ironside, I see it more of a redistrbution of the prize money than a deal. If anyone in authority decides it means minimum points, it will have to apply to all those previous tournaments and will devalue and make a mockery of the whole ranking system. I will fight the corner if it comes to it. i know most events have savers like this but it effect the finishing spots as people are more likely to gamble to aquire chips if there is a saver in place which means that the bigger stacks cant steal as much and the shorter stacks are more likely to double up any saver effects the way the event finishes but i think it would be wrong to freeze the points Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Ironside on November 27, 2005, 09:33:41 PM when i asked about this earlier in year any savers done before the final table do not effect ranking points

Personnally I think it definately affects the outcome of any tournament, short stacks are far more willing to gamble if they know they will get their money back or more. The situation with deals and savers is almost impossible to police, I think they allot the points to who has the most chips, etc, ect. >:? Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 09:37:27 PM It's pretty much ground to a halt here, with no stacks so short their all-in moves are imminent.
As far as showdowns, there's been a Barny vs. Dave Clark one, on a 5h 4c Ah 6s 5c board. It had all quietly been checked, and then Barny bet out 20k from the big blind on the river. Dave eventually called with 9s 9c, but Barny had been sitting on Ac Qd and congratulated him for having checked it twice previously... That puts Dave on one of the shorter stacks, but at 80,000 he's not desperate. The blinds are 4,000 - 8,000, however, with a rise to 5,000 - 10,000 in ten minutes. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 27, 2005, 09:39:37 PM what is clear is that for next year the ranking rules need to more clearly define what kind of deal affects the points and what does not. The essence of the rankings is about continued competitiveness right to the end. This certainly makes no difference at all from the point at which they get down to the last nine.

That certainly is big chips. sat at home now reading the updates - on the drive home i concluded that this really was an easy fold - i am so annoyed at calling them all off with this hand but that anthony nicholls (who i know well) really could have had a raggy ace! - oh well, lots of catching up to do - Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 11:04:58 PM Luke Patten finds pocket kings but is unable to trigger any action from the rest of the table. The final table shortest stack found an Ace, and went for it. Ac 8c to be precise, which found an over the top all-in from Darren Grosvenor with his Js Jc. They spiked the Jh but there was never a dangerous card for him, and our first final table casualty has occurred. Down to 8, and the short stacks are now Dave Barnes and then Ian Woodley. The blinds are 5,000 - 10,000 so there's quite a bit there to steal. His preflop raise of 30k is called by Anthony Nicholls in the big blind. Flop = 2h Ks 4s Nicholls bets 40k. Boatman calls. Turn = Js Nicholls checks. Boatman rubs his chin pensively and bets 40k. Nicholls folds. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 28, 2005, 12:38:59 AM Barney's at it again!
It was battle of the blinds with Dave Barnes (small blind) holding Kc Th and Barney Boatman playing Jh 3h. All the money went in on the turn, Barnes being the lower of the two stacks. The board was: 9s Js 3c Td Things looked bleak for Barnes until the dealer popped out the Qh on the river to give Barnes the nut straight. Barney's face went slightly sour... Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 12:39:21 AM Luke Patten wins a rather needed pot, after raising preflop and getting a call from Dave Barnes. When it was checked to him he went all-in for around 80,000, which was about the size of the pot. Dave passed and Luke now has a bit of breathing space - although not much; with the blinds at 6k - 12k 100,000 doesn't look as much as it did three hours ago.
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 28, 2005, 12:46:05 AM Pascal claims that there is only 1 French player left in the comp.
Tikay informs him that there are NO French players remaining. Pascal proves us all wrong by revealing the 10 percent he has with Barney. 10 percent of £66,000 isn't the worst of cuts. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 12:59:29 AM Barny seems to have woken up now and looks more relaxed than the other final tablists. It could just be because he's sitting a bit slouchy. But for the second time in about 20 minutes he's come over the top of a preflop raiser ALL-IN (no half measures) pushing him off a 100k pot. His two pushoffs have been Stephen Wilsdon and just now Dave Barnes. The latter hand was especially interesting considering all the talk while the call was being considered and rejected. Dave folded showing the As, and gave Barny the old, "show the bluff, it's good for the game" line, getting to see the Kd!
It will all be clear on the DVD which is the purpose of all this filming (a little more low key and less hassle-y than the usual film set type final, how relaxing). Oh the wonder of hole card cameras. Luke moved in on the cutoff with As 6h and found a caller (well, a re-raise-all-inner) in Darren Grosvenor, whose Kh Th hit two pairs over the course of the board's emergence. It was a case of two shortish stacks combining after a battle so that one of them had a playable stack, and it was Darren. Luke wins £5,800. Seconds later (you can just see Rhowena's eyes light up) another HUGE pot developed - snoopy has the details... Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 28, 2005, 01:16:22 AM They're like buses!
Steve Wilsdon the 6th place finisher - winning £7,400 - Dave Barnes the 5th place finisher - winning £9,100 - Two birds, one stone. All the chips went in preflop. Boatman limps under the gun. Wilsdon pushes all-in. Barnes also moves all-in. Boatman calls. On their backs. Boatman = As Kd. Wilsdon = Ac Qd. Barnes = Jc Jd. Flop = 2c Td Kc Turn = 3d River = 4d Barney takes down a massive pot and knocks out two players in one hand. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 01:18:09 AM Anthony Nicholls Takes On Barny news now -
He raised 25k preflop. Barny called. He bet 25k on the Qh 6h Jc flop. Barny called. He bet what looked like 80k on the 5c turn. Barny passed. Anthony flicked his hand up at the hole card cams (and us) and we caught a tantalising little glimpse of.... 3d 4d! Grosvenor bets 20k into a Ac 9s 6s flop. Nicholl's reraises, Grosvenor quickly passes. Nicholl's lifted his card slightly. I caught sight of a jack and a low card. Not sure which one, could have been a stonecold bluff. If so, well played. Chip counts: Barney Boatman - 540k Paul Traynor - 480k Darren Grosvenor - 230k Anthony Nicholls - 400k I reminded Anthony of our 20% with each other and he seems to think that I never even played and has dismissed it. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 02:49:45 AM Big hand news now though - Anthony limps utg, small blind Paul Traynor calls, and big blind Darren Grosvenor raises 60k. Anthony immediately re-raises to 150k and gets a fold from Paul and an all-in from Darren. Quick as a flash - "I call." He shows Kh Kd. Darren shows Ah Kc.
The flop: 9d Td Jh. Anthony says to Barny: "You passed a pair of Aces, yeah?" Turn: As River: 9s And that's the beginning of the end for Anthony Nicholls, as snoopy will inform you. Darren Grosvenor held Ac Js which looked rather nice on the Ks Qs Tc flop. Even better was when Paul Traynor went all-in with him holding Qh Jh. Turn: 9h River: As for a chop! Tikay reports the chips are now "still about even" after that bit of excitement. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 28, 2005, 02:58:16 AM Anthony Nicholls the 4th place finisher - winning £14,000 -
Nicholls = 6s 6d Boatman = Qc Jh Nicholls was the short stack after his pocket kings were crushed earlier, and it was cheap for Boatman to call. Board = 9d Qh 8d 5c 9h Nicholls sensed this was his swan song and he waved goodbye before the flop. Clearly devestated, Nicholls leaves the table to a well deserved round of applause and a dreadful interview with Tikay. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 02:59:20 AM To be more precise, they are 650k (Barny) and 500k apiece the other two - Paul Traynor and Darren Grosvenor. Barny just took down a smallish pot (although with 5k the only denomination still in circulation, and 30k in blinds in every hand, no pot is tiny) so has extended his slight lead.
Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on November 28, 2005, 03:04:52 AM A cheeky snap of chip leader Barney Boatman. Also notice Daniversaci pointing to his chin in the background. Perhaps thinking, 'What shall I have with my apple pie? Hmm'.
[attachment deleted by admin] Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 03:08:02 AM I caught the end of a big hand between Barny and Darren: The board looked like: 5d 7s Js Qc Kc. Darren bet out 50k, and Barny raised a further 150k (about half of Darren's remaining chips). He had a good long think (not unusual) but this time had a decision we all got to see the thinking behind: He eventually called showing Ks 2s.
Barny said, "I put you on a busted flush draw" and showed his 7h 9h, which lost him a tidy sum. Well, he was half right... Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: Djinn on November 28, 2005, 03:19:15 AM Still 20 more minutes at the 10k - 20k blind level. To be honest, I thought this one might have finished them off, but there have been quite a few cagey call'n'check kind of pots played where we get to see all the cards but no one wants to bet, and someone wins their own blind and a call's worth at the end. I think they're going to have to do some serious editing for this DVD of theirs... Not that it isn't fun to watch, they are clearly taking it all very seriously and a small but persistent crowd of spectators has gathered whose secondary role is to gently push me out of the way. I'm going behind the screen.

All the money went in on a flop of 9c Jc 8h. Grosvenor, who was sitting on the button, called an all-in raise from Traynor. Traynor turns over Ts 8d But Grosvenor tosses over Tc Qc for the straight. Turn = 3h River = 5c We're now heads up with Grosvenor chip leader. Darren Grosvenor is the Midlands Masters Champion, winning £66,000!
Having just gone all-in with his 5 times chip lead, making Barny pass four hands in a row, Barny took the initiative on the button with Td 3h. But Darren Grosvenor found As Qs! The board came a very final 6s Qh Ah Qd Jh and Barny Boatman finishes in 2nd place, for £34,600. Congratulations to them both, and everyone who's played through this lengthy Day Two of the £1500 event. Title: Re: Walsall Midlands Masters FINAL DAY Live Update Post by: AlrightJack on November 28, 2005, 03:37:36 AM In Paul Traynor's case he bought in for $30 dollars. That's poker. But I thought you played Marvellous Simon.
Simon was on my opening (well, only...) table, which was serioiusly lairy. A Johnson was running amok, betting bottom pair & getting away with it, & just as we sussed him, he got moved, doh! And Robert Binelli was playing a very odd game - for him - raising in the first level with K-3, calling with 7-2, da de da de da. Darren Grosvenor was on it to, having a torrid time, never won one hand. Ian Woodley, thieving as usual, and Iwan Jones. Tough table. But Simon just sat there very quietly, & making a raise maybe once evey 2 orbits. Such was his table image, that I don't think he ever got a caller. Great effort Simon, well done. |
