There is some trash in modern hiphop like pop-style gansta rap. NWA, Cube and IceT were superb but once you've heard Snoop Dogs first album (which was brilliant), you've heard them all. I still loved all the new 90's sounds at the time and never had Dr Dre off, those were the days but not as good my real heroes like Young MC.

Any more good rap/hip hop/b boy links are appreciated.

The thing that baffled me a little was, how on earth had Barack Obama had more influence on hip hop than Snoop or Cube?

Doggystyle was a fantastic album, I always remember sitting at the back of class with it playing in my walkman with me and a mate sharing an ear and covering with our hands so we wouldn't get spotted.....until everyone went quiet whilst reading some shakespeare crap and all that could be heard was 'Murder was the case that they gave me' blaring out :)

Im not sure i would be in aggrement with the all time top 30 most infulencial in Hip Hop but then again im more the old school so I cant really see Jay -z at number one and in my mind surely Afrika Bambaata should be there?

Have any of you lot seen scratch ? Really like that dvd. Infact the bboy one they did was good as well.

Hip hop shouldnt be confused with rap, which i think it is mostly, slightly unfairly. It seems that rap like to steal the category and people listen to what the majority do at that time. Its really easy to hear the difference in how its composed though.

In reality Afrika Bambaata should be at the top but ive never trusted any chart radio1 or anything from anyone else mainstream that is done lately. Its all about advertising what can be sold.

Too much time spent with the old schoolers for me i think.

One day, not far away this musics going to make its return, Deservedly so. Pretty much somes up our world at the moment, freedom of expression and what not,

Its more of a dj thing but its definitely interesting to watch and appreciate even if you dont dj. Which i dont it has to be said.

i thought id got myself into a corner when i got questioned the rap thing. But listening to the end of the 30years thing you can hear what im saying there. despite the fact that the mood is kinda dictated by jag skills more than the songs themselves. To me hip hops more varied, More often lively where as rap is fairly droney. Just a shame we get a higher percentage of drone now.

I did actually have a quick search and certain sites may have certain scratch torrents available. Not that i in any way endorse that.Well worth owning for a fiver though.

I know where you are coming from, music evolves and now rap is synonymous with some really poor sounds like most gansta rap. Even if you listen to some gansta rap or modern rap, I'd argue that hiphop is core to a lot of it and you can't get rid of roots very easy.

I think Hip Hop is the culture, lifestyle if you like.
Then within that Hip Hop lifestyle you encompase Rap, music, Break dancing, Graffiti, djing etc.
So when we talk about Hip Hop we are talking about the whole package.

The music on their now though now is just cuts of music hes made in the past to give mc's a choice in the style of music they like and are into. Suprising the amount of music given to MC's that they fail to use. Lazy bunch most of them.

Probablly the one of the saddest things ive done is give the dj of a cd his cd to copy. Totally legit, nobody owns the rites to the song any more.
I ended up picking one up for his christmas pressie last year. Having a copy of your own stuff didnt seem right.

Muso's are just getting lazy now though. Its even hard to give away free music if your not the in thing.

Not bad at all. I read the piece on rap not being hip hop and I know where the guy is coming from but still dont agree. Gangsta and violence 'gonna bust a cap in your ass' type stuff gives hiphop a bad name. Dont get me wrong, some of it is pretty good but I prefer PE for some heavy tunes.
