Just done a google search backs up my original thoughts that it was a pretty weak year for music, now if you had said 1994 or 95 that would have been good.

Save Tonight" - Eagle-Eye Cherry

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" - Green Day

Truly Madly Deeply" - Savage Garden

Thank U" - Alanis Morissette

Seriously Trigg i reckon this might be the worst year for music in the last 50 years.

I reckon i could have found 5 times as many songs of this quality in any other year, but here goes the best 3 alternative songs i could find.

ducy

The Rockefeller Skank by Fatboy Slim if it's not been mentioned.
I have a soft spot for the divine comedy, so will throw The Certainty of Chance into the ring.

sonnet / lucky man  Verve
all you good good people/ come back to what you know - Embrace

Thousand Trees - stereophonics

I have to kind of laugh at the thread thou as it is fairly well accepted that 1998 was a dreadful year for music (year Brit pop died!)

1996 FTW! - well if you're an indie kid! (brit pop ftw!)

Yep Oakenfold put out plenty of the quality stuff, have a few myself. Always hard to put a specific date on any dance stuff as it's been around on the underground/white label scene for plenty of time before it ever gets released. Any more off the top of your head?
