Title: BlueSq.com GUKPT Manchester: Day 1B
Post by: NoflopsHomer on April 24, 2009, 04:38:50 AM
Thanks to Kev who put up last night's chip counts for the remaining 30 players on the other thread, if you missed them, they're here:

Aaron Barry   9175
Michael Oakes   8550

Play recommences at 2pm once more, but a couple of things.

[X] By some coincidence, I'm in the same hotel as all the dealers.
[  ] They sure want to have a quiet night and all read books in their room quietly.
[  ] I didn't leave them drinking and playing poker at 4am.
[X] I left having been sucked out on.
[  ] The 24-hr Tesco next door isn't doing a roaring trade this weekend.
[X] It's still good fun.
[?] I'm going to regret all this.

It is 6 20am, I just won £35 on a 25p 25p blinds DC cash game and I shall mostly be dealing the main event with a hangover in 7 hours.

I love the GUKPT

By a strange quirk I managed to book myself into the Premier Inn at Heaton Park thinking it was the closest to the casino so escaped the dealers hotel and the chance to fleece George and Simon from Luton

[  ] This though was a good hotel choice

I strode into reception at 1.40am into what appeared to be a scene from Are you beng served, or possibly a sketch from the Fast Show

"Good evening, I have a room booked for three nights"

"ooh sir, you must have had a long journey sir, ooh sir. Long journey sir?"

"Well three hours or so, but that was much earlier, I've just finished work"

"Oooooh sir, three hours sir, ooh sir. Fill in this card sir"

"Ok, here you go"

"Thank you sir, room 41 sir, breakfast 7-9am sir. Recover from your long journey first sir"

"cheers"

"oooh sir, goodnight sir"

Arrive in my room to a non working telly, but I decline to ring reception in case John Inman doubles as a handyman. Woken at 7.30am by the vacuum cleaner outside, and now about to repare for the day ahead

Fortunately, only a short journey today to the casino. Mr Inman will be disappointed tonight when he asks me.

Anyway yesterday I remarked to myself that it was primarily an old skool field. Messrs Wernick, Sunar and the like near the head of affairs.

Today I feel we are set to be watching the kidz. Expecting a far younger field, and I have been brushing up on the lingo in preparation

This involves NEVER using the term back raise ever again.

We'll be setting up from 1.30pm, please join us then

In breaking news, the casino has a Moulin Rouge Dinner and then live Show on tonight, over on the stage.

I will report, blow by blow, later on this spectacle

I am not sure what a Moulin Rouge dinner consists of, that will be my first exploratory task later

Definitely not dead.

He phoned me up about a month ago.

Think he's had an extended stay in poker hospital.

(Although to be fair, I had heard the same rumours you had obviously heard)

Easy game imo... (That's Nik Persaud, James Akenhead, Stu Rutter, John Eames and Chris Moorman all waiting to play - Note Nik Persaud is quick, but not quick enough to show off his badge for a certain site that is a dark colour and may or may not contain belts)

Earliest exit of the day is Martyn Frey, all-in with Kh Kd on a Th 6s 5s board vs Mark Wilson's Aspades Ks, John Murphy passing Queens here and Haris Mohammed, Jacks. Wilson missed the spade but caught the Ac on the turn leaving just a solitary cowboy in the deck for Frey to hit, which he duly didn't.

Double up for Moorman.

That's Simon Moorman.

It was all-in by the river of a K-8-2-J-Q board with Iain Potter's flopped set of Eights being beaten by Moomin Sr's turned set of Jacks.

The way the Moormans' run is clearly genetic.

turn  9c

Toby bets 1,450, called

river  Ks

It's a customary tradition at GUKPT never to fold unless your opponent makes a REALLY big bet, because then he MUST have it. ;)

Lawrence Gosney is out. James Akenhead raised to 350 with Q-9 and Gosney reraised to 1,000 from the big blind. The board came out Q-9-6-8-4 with Gosney check-calling all the way bets of 1,650, 2,250 and 4,000 or so all-in. Gosney mucked when he saw Akenhead's top two pair, the latter suspecting he had something like Jacks or Tens.

Why Moorman Is Golden, Part MCXIV:

Moorman raises preflop with T-8 and receives two callers. Now because the poor guy never receives any breaks, the poker gods deem it correct to gift him a 9-7-6 flop and the awesomely named Costas Hola was holding 7-7. Moorman also finished off Alan Stearn mostly with 4-4 on a J-4-J-Q-A board vs J-T though he said, "I fold for my last 2,000 if he check/raises all-in!"

Just as I watch Nick Slade fold to a min check/raise on the river of a 4c 6h Jh 3h Js board, Toby Lewis told me a hand that Martin Malone played against Karl Schefler. Apparently Schefler raised to 1,000 preflop (blinds 50/100), Malone reraised to 3,000 from the big blind with Kings and Schefler instantly made it 5,000. Malone did the big old tank/dwell/fold sequence and Schefler, who in Lewis' words, has been playing 'odd', showed Aces.

(That's Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314), James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) Akenhead (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183), Stu Rutter, John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1515) Eames (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1515) and Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) Moorman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) all waiting to play - Note Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) is quick, but not quick enough to show off his badge for a certain site that is a dark colour and may or may not contain belts)

Has Eames been overheard telling anyone that it's Bicycle time yet? Noticed in Dublin when i was pissed a striking similarity to a young Tony G.

Moorman also finished off Alan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1315) Stearn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1315) mostly with 4-4 on a J-4-J-Q-A board vs J-T though he said, "I fold for my last 2,000 if he check/raises all-in!"

Just as I watch Nick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=309) Slade (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=309) fold to a min check/raise on the river of a 4c 6h Jh 3h Js board, Toby Lewis told me a hand that Martin Malone played against Karl Schefler.

Nice life IMO

How's Claw getting on?

My indepth interview

"How are you getting on?"

"10,000"

"Oh"

"the guy next to me doesn't even know how to read a board"

"Oh"

"I am grinding with my 100x bb"

"Oh, good luck"

"Cheers"

There seems to be a distinct lack of norkage shots today.

Can we at least have a picture of Claw grinding?

We now know where Moorman's goldenness comes from. His dad

Limping with Kh Ks he and Jonathan Lundy saw a  Kd Th 6c 5c board, at which point all the chips were in the middle with Jonathan holding a distinctly sickly  Kc 5d

Jonathan Lundy OUT, Moorman, the original golden version, 25,000

Some huffing and puffing later causes the big blind to fold. Frazer shows the Tc.

"I got it in drawing dead," he said with a mixture of pride and embarrassment, recanting the tale to myself and Ryan Fronda (who is still in, he got moved earlier - apologies, I'll beat Tightend for that).

Nik minraised with 9-8 and received one caller, and bet 600 on a J-T-J flop, his opponent made it 1,200 and Nik pushed for about 7k. At this point Ryan burst out laughing. "He instantly called, so I thought I needed to hit, but he showed Tens so I errr...needed running Jacks for a split pot..."

On a  7s 5s 7c Ks board he bet 1,500 which Lucy called with an expression of mild amusement

He then bet 3,000 on the  4h river leaving himself only 2,000 and Lucy pushed virtually all in

Doat pondered and digested, cogitated and deliberated, vacillated and delayed and then passed resignedly

Lucy raked the chips in with clear relish

The board came out Q-9-6-8-4 with Gosney check-calling all the way bets of 1,650, 2,250 and 4,000 or so all-in. Gosney mucked when he saw Akenhead's top two pair, the latter suspecting he had something like Jacks or Tens.

Is this correct?

Moorman watch

A while ago Chris was moved to the very far table, seat 8. From that seat he has had a perfect view of he back of Simon on the table next to him, in seat 5

Simon has been steady around the 35-40,000 mark for a while now with Chris slightly behind in the 25-30,000 region. Quite contrasting playing styles. Chris in a lot of pots, applying regular pressure with small bets whereas Simon is more deliberate, and when in a hand inclined to bet large, but playing far fewer hands.

Quite interesting to watch Chris, it is as if he is the father as he is watching his Dad's progress with an almost paternalistic regard, and proudness, constantly smiling.

Irrespective of their results this weekend, I suspect this is an experience they'll both remember.

James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) Akenhead (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) raised to 350 with Q-9 and Gosney reraised to 1,000 from the big blind.

That's what James told me. Why?

Dan Carter's exit was a swift one. He had shoved with Q-J after several limpers, but the (now eliminated) Mike Lacey made the call with A-T.

"Hmmm," thought Dan, "Live cards at least."

Charles Ihle had doubled through Michael Denton

Denton raised pre with  Kh Ks

Charles called on the button with  7h 7d

flop  8s 7c Tc

Michael bets 2,500, Charles raises to 6,000 and Michael flat calls

turn  3s

Michael Bets 3,500, Charles pushes for 6,000 total, called

a blank  5c on the river leaving Denton in trouble and Ihle at the security of 27,000

I like this line with KK, you get all the money in when you are behind but they save 2500 when they have a draw, minimizing value ftw!

Keir Ratcliffe raises preflop, Edward Lundon moves his short stack all-in.

It's passed to Paul Byrne in the small blind and he moves all-in...

And then Jake Cody moves all-in from the big blind...

And then Keir Ratcliffe calls...

Lundon: 6d 6s
Byrne: Ts Td
Cody: Qh Qs
Ratcliffe: Ac Aspades

6c 4s 9d 7d 5c

Lundon almost quadruples up, Cody and Byrne are out and Ratcliffe can't even get a sidepot...

Dan Owston raises it to 900 preflop and James Kiely pushes all-in for a couple of thousand more. Owston makes the call and says, "You've got me," flipping Aspades 7h, Kiely shows Ahrt Qh and says, "Don't give me a seven, give me some luck for once dealer..."

Owston, "Give me a seven..."

The dealer ignores both of them and puts out a 5s 6c 2s 3h 4h board and calls a split pot until it's pointed out the 7 is playing. Kiely departs, depressed.

Martin Malone and Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) Rutter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) are out. Toby Lewis is steady around the 20,000 mark

Meanwhile Mark Scollins limps for 300 and Dominic Rossokh makes it 1125 in mid position, called right behind him by the noisy Dan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=121) Owston (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=121)

Jason Lam is having none of this and pushes in for 6675 total in the cut off

folded round to Owston who says "I'll have a punt with you"and calls

Lam  Ts Tc

Owston  Jd Td

board  8h Kh 6c 3d 8d

and Lam doubles through plus more.

Owston shrugs his shoulders happily and gets back to talking the hind legs off the nearest donkey

Falconer: Ad Aspades

Paul Moss passed Queens apparently.

Rupinder Bedi is out. He didn't sound totally happy with how he played his exit, but he raised to 900 from the cutoff with Ad 9d playing a 4k stack and the button just cold-called. He put the rest of his chips in on a T-9-4 flop and the button having made the call preflop with 4-4. "Perhaps, I should've just pushed preflop? Or maybe just folded, I hadn't played a hand in ages."

Claw is also out, there was a raise to 1,600 and she shoved for 4k total with 4-4 and lost the flip against A-8.

Meanwhile a raising war on a Kh 9c 5c board ends with victory for James Keys over PI Nick Slade, who folded what looked to be a c/r to 3.2k when Keys set him in for another 10k or so.

Julian Thew is out, escaping before we even saw the exit hand.

Bit of history in this hand, Ramsey Ajram and Matt Perrins both made the final in Brighton, the latter being a regular 3-bettor to anyone who raises in late position and a strong tendency of getting in through.

Anyway, Ajram raised to about 800 I think and Perrins repopped from the button for an additional 1,875. After a couple of minutes thought, Ajram now 4-bet for another 5,075 more on top. Perrins wanted to check on Ajram's stack and then became less interested in playing, giving the hand up.

Just seen a very strange hand play out between Paul Moss, Fatmarra now on the white wine and John Miller

Moss is a little worse for wear and misjudged his opening raise, such that it had to go as the minimum

John Miller in the big blind re-raised and fatmarra flat called

flop  8s Jc Qc

bet by Miller, raise by Moss, call by Miller

turn  6d

bet and call

river  9c

check check

Moss  Ad  Ac

Miller  Qs 2c

David Bielby is hanging in there with 12,000

Chris Martin just took a nice pot off Moorman junior, Moorman junior folding to a bet on the turn having raised pre and met resistance in the blinds

Burnley John still has 50,000. He is two seats away from an equally chipped up Kenny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2359) Burke (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2359), and the same table as fatmarra. Quiet it is not.

Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1469) Ephremsen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1469) is still going ok, over 20,000 and steady

Glenn (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=156) Ashworth (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=156) is a player who often goes deep in these, he is well placed again with 30,000 or so

Osman Mustanglou and Farie Badmansour are old adversaries from the Midlands and are sat side by side with similar 20,000 stacks

Womble has 21,000. Haven't seen him play a hand to get there when I've walked past, but he won't be giving those chips up lightly

PI Nick Slade is out, limp reraising all-in with A-K against a guy holding Q-Q and the 0804 card which indicates it's Ian Nelson, but it's clearly not. Gah.

John Richards has been knocked out by Charles Ihle, all-in on a 9d 3s 6h board with Ac 9s but up against Jc Jd which held on the 2d turn and 7h river, though Glenn Ashworth rued folding Td 8d on the flop.

Jonathan Heath raises to 1,025 from midposition and Ramsey Ajram makes the call in the big blind.

Kd Qd Jd

Check, check.

7c

Ajram bets 1,525. Think...and call.

8h

Check, check. Ajram, disgusted, flips up 9d 7d. Heath mucks then told me he had Tens with the Td...

Greg 'Crestofawave' Howard is still grinding away with about 9k.

Meanwhile a big pot, biggest of the night so far just occurred.

Jonathan McCann raised to 1,625 and was called by Mohammed Shoahebe and Chi Nguyen.

Ad 8d 6c

McCann bets 3,000. Shoahebe raises to 6,200 and Nguyen reraises to 15,200. McCann gets out of the way and Shoahebe quickly moves all-in for about 30k more. Nguyen tanks and asks, "Do you have a set?" Eventually he calls.

Shoahebe: Qd 9d
Nguyen: Ac 8s

4c

9c

Nguyen finally exhales as he wins a 100k pot. He has his opponent covered by about 1,000 chips and the double-average-at-the-break Shoahebe is out.

Moorman action

Moorman 2 first

He raises to 1800 UTG and is called in the big blind by Iqbal Ahmed

on a flop of  9c Qh 6s Iqbal check raises papa's 2,000 bet to 6,000 which is called

turn  Kh check check

river  Jc check check

Moorman 2 shows down  Qd Jd  to scoop

Iqbal's cards are asked to be shown by a player and he reveals a sheepish  8c 5s

Moorman1 meanwhile called an 1800 raise from Waseem (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2814) Shahid (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2814) in late position

they both checked the  7c Qh Ac flop

turn  8h and Moorman 1 raises the 2,500 bet to 6,500 which is called

Shahid checks the  5c river and with a dismissive wave Moorman1 says "all-in" leading to a pass some minutes later from Shahid

Here's Moorman 2 playing the top hand, Ahmed to his right

Greg Howard continues to live in a topsy-turvy world

He just doubled up Jonathan McCann with 9d 8d vs Ac Qc, all-in on the turn of a 2s 6h Jd Qd 9h board, before doubling up himself soon after with Ac 9s vs Ad 4d. He's now around 14k and looking like a deer in headlights...

Kenny Burke, who has been steadily drinking all day, just put Burnley John off a big hand, causing a bit of bemusement at the table.

The board was reading 4c Qs Jd Qc 3h and Burnley John had bet 6k on the river. Burke moved all-in and Burnley John said he was making a big fold, showing the Qh as he mucked. Burke gleefully showed Ac 6c for a busted flush draw and John said, "Well I knew what you had..."

"You knew what I had? You knew what I had and you still fold? Give over John..." replied Burke.

"I just wasn't prepared to gamble for my whole stack," protested John.

Toby Lewis just got unlucky

very lairy, loud and a bit worse for wear, a rash Andrew Bacon shoved over the top of his raise with  9h 5c. Toby called with  Aspades Kd and we all thought Bacon had made a pig's ear of the re-steal but they then saw a board of  8d 3c 4c 6s 7d to double streaky bacon up, and leave Lewis short

Kevin McInally knocked out Stephen McCarthy, AK v 88 all in pre

Ryan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=390) Fronda (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=390) doubled up with  Ahrt Qh all in on a flop of  7c 8c Qd but had to survive against a call from  Jc Tc to do so

Chris (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) Moorman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=69) has 60,000..button to fellow 60,000 stack Chris Martin's big blind and raising into it with carefree abandon. Martin trying to buy rounds of drinks with Scottish £50 notes much to the bemusement of the valets

Simon Moorman has 30,000

Chip leader is Kenny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2359) Burke (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2359) 90,000

Chris Moorman is moving into upper echleons of the remaining players, he bet 16.5k into Willie Haughey on the river of a 2h Ts Ks Ad 6h board with around 20k in the pot. He might have been able to squeeze a few more k out of his opponent as Willie Haughey never looked like folding and quickly called with Kc Tc only to have the nutty Qh Jh shown back to him.

Following this he knocked out Howard Plant with Ac Js against 9c 7c. Yes, quell your shock, Moorman had the best hand pre.

He's up to almost 90k.

Sigh, another big pot for Moorman. No, not Chris.

Moorman2 bet 8k on a Ks 9s Qh flop and Alex Mah raised another 20k, the patented Moorman snap-shove came into play and Mah quickly called showing Ac Kh. Moorman2 though had Kd 9d and held on the 8h turn and 4c river. Moomin Sr now also has around 90k and Chris might still have to quit poker again.

Moorman 2 in action again

Toby Lewis raises in the cut off, Moorman 2 re-raises in the small blind, Toby shoves, Moorman 2 calls, priced in

Toby  Ahrt Ad

Moorman 2  Aspades Ts

no help for the father-bot, and Toby doubles up to 30,000

Interesting conversation with Dominic Rossookh at the break, he's desperate to trap big stack Kenny Burke but one time the latter didn't bite against his trip eights and in the other Rossookh was checked to and made a big push with a flush trying to make it look bluffy, sure that Burke would call him with any hand only to have the Irishman fold.

The problem for Rossookh is that he only has one more level before the redraw tomorrow, so he's like a mini-Jack Bauer after Burke's stack and the clock is ticking...

BTW Moorman2 and Moorman1 were the 1 & 2 chipleaders at the break...

Humungous sick pot alert, and again Moorman 2 is in the thick of it

Jez Hilton limped with   4h  4s

Simon Moorman raised with  Aspades Jh in late position

Alex Mah called with Ac 6c

the flop of  Ahrt Ad  4d guaranteed action

Hilton Bet with Moorman and Mah both calling.

It is by now a 50,000 chip pot

On the  8h turn Mah checks, Hilton pushes his last 19,425 in and Moorman snap calls

Mah now goes into the tank. "How can my A6 be good here?" You can sense him thinking, his brain whirring, and eventually he calls for 90% of his stack

It's now a 110,000 pot

the river is a sickener for Hilton  8d

Mah pushes, Moorman calls and they split a 140,000 chip pot while Hilton departs looking absolutely muffed

David Bielby is out. Very short and couldn't beat Willie Haughey's Jc Js on a J-5-3-K-8 board. Moorman (C) very happy he was forced out by a flop bet since he was holding 8-8.

serious answer though, Mr Raab emails through the lists after breaks. Over the course of a day with table moves and players not taking their ID with them, there will inevitably be a few errors

It's Ramsey Ajram. I've modified the chip counts for both.

Ramsey Ajram raised to 10,500 with about 125 behind. Chris Moorman called and everyone else folded. Auto all-in before the flop of course.

Ajram: 7s 6s
Moorman: Jc Jd

6c 9s 6d 6h 9d

Ajram doubles to over 20k, Moorman didn't look too unhappy until he realised his Dad might have more chips than him again...

Play has ended for the night. 40 have made it through, making just over 70 for Day 2 tomorrow at 2pm to fight over the £88,000 first prize

chip counts will follow just as soon as chips have been counted, bagged, signed for and inputted onto the system

Jack Powell goes into day 2 feeling as though he's freerolling, "I had 26k and raised and this guy 3-bet and I was going to shove against him but then someone else cold-called the 3-bet so I folded. Weird, because the guy who called the 3-bet had sixes which of course held against A-K."
