I would say post office is best. They were selling at 1.47 two days ago. I went to buy but believe it or not, the fucking post office dont have my postcode on their system. Work that one out. Gonna have to ring them tomorrow as the rate is only available online!

Dont know about Brighton Flushy but tesco has the best rate on the high street here, although I use a small currency shop that is usually 1.5c above tescos

might be a bit late for you but overall best James, especially given how your going to make your living for a while, would be to open a USD account with a UK / Global bank

theres loads of places around victoria station in london that have good rates. the one I use is http://www.change-link.co.uk/ they do a really good rate, sometimes even spot

just give them a call beforehand and try and negotiate an even beter rate then they are offering

Assuming ( probably incorrectly ) you are ging to Vegas why not book a commercial wire straight to the casino cage in USD?
Rate should be better and no hassles.

Sometimes the rates are as good as you get over here for sterling but I was meaning Transfer from £ into $ like a deposit in USD direct to the casino cage.
Just out of curiousity I will get a quote for USD booked that way to see how it compares with 1.505. I would gues it will be 1.52 or so.

Now I shall go away and prepare to fall flat on my face haha

Was in Basildon today with my nan and saw Going Places offering special rates for large transactions. So managed to get my $$ @ 1.508 (in your eye demps), wiiii. They did give me nearly the whole lot in 20s tho ffs!!!

Best way to get USD at the minute is through a FairFX Card, Its a preloaded debit card always offer about the best rate you can get.

Open a USD account with your bank and FX it through their Treasury. Much better rates than any exchange bureau. You should then be able to order the ccy for collection at a branch. Will prob charge about 1% for collection but should still work out better than high street rates.

Just check your bank allows the collection obviously

i was gonna open a USD account before i left but they said it takes 6 weeks to open
