Title: BlueSquare.com GUKPT Newcastle Day 1a
Post by: TightEnd on May 21, 2009, 10:43:16 AM
Welcome to Newcastle for the Fifth Leg of the 2009 GUKPT

Day 1a begins at 2pm today and I'll be bringing you the action as the runners seek to emulate last year's winner Ganesh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=144) Rao (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=144) and lift the trophy

From the Blue Square odds list  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=42014.0 it looks like we're in for a high powered field

Also if you haven't entered yet please see the Live update competition. Guess the number of runners and win £100 direct into your blondepoker card-room account

http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=41982.0

Also tonight is Leg three of the May League on blonde's cardoom. Why not play that while criticising me for the use of the term "back-raise", or not posting enough norkage, or heaven forbid my new trick..which is to describe a straight as a run or a set as a prile?

Details can be found here  http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=41635.0

As an added bonus if you bust Colchester Kev in that, preferably from way behind pre-flop, and post the hand history on the update thread you'll win £50 into your card-room account from me.

See you later, and hope you enjoy the updates!

Interestingly the etymology of Prile is a corruption of pair royal. I gather that in three card brag a prile beats a royal flush.

So on no account, no sirree, will I be describing a set as a prile or a wire up in today's update. Unless RookieITB is viewing

Looking forward to the updates again. I'm being foolish enough to make the 4 hour trip tomorrow morning. There is no prospect of it selling out, is there?

It's actually very quiet in here today. Spotted milling about Jeff Kimber, The Camel, Mr and Mrs Flanders, Joey Lovelady Andreas Hoivold and Steve Jelinek

Expectation of about 50-60 runners today so far

42 runners I think so far

Rick Trigg has managed to draw a table with on his direct right Ganesh Rao, Jeff Kimber and Julian Thew

C T Law is first out on the second hand. Lost a lot of chips first hand on a J J 6 J x board and then proceeded to raise on the button with  Ad 5h. Christopher Wright re-raised in the big blind with  Aspades 8c and Law, looking very cross with life to be frank,  pushed.

Flop  8d 7s 7h left him drawing thin and no help came

A half empty card-room, A5 off all in pre-flop second hand. Welcome to the GUKPT Twilight zone!

Possibly, but add into the mix the DTD Biggie next week - their spectacular £1,000er starts Wednesday, so that's 2 grand to shell out in a few days.

Distance is not an issue. It's not far from some places which are quite near.

Rich,

Can we have a Count on how many Hands Albert passes pre-flop please?

Title: Re: BlueSquare.com GUKPT Newcastle Day 1a
Post by: tikay on May 21, 2009, 02:42:03 PM

With the reduced numbers Rich, I note 6 Tables have been set up. Can we assume from that, therefore, that even if a coachload arrive shortly, the MAXIMUM field today is 60? (+ any Level 1 & 2 exits).

Post by: TightEnd on May 21, 2009, 02:44:18 PM
6 tables so 60 plus alternates is the max today

Albert pass? not yet

Julian Thew is down to 2000

He raised pre with Pocket Queens and Ronald Wilkinson flatted with Kings

A Queen high flop was to Julian's liking and the betting went Julian 250,raise to 700, Julian 3-betting to 2100, flat called

Blank turn bet and called

River brought a King and a possible Flush. Julian checked and Ronald checked "just in case you have the flush"

and news just reaches me that Julian is now out, so that's one player Thewer in the competition (copyright J Raab 2009)

John Miller is also OUT

Raised with  Aspades Ks, flat called by Glenn Ashworth in the blinds with  6h 4h

flop  6s 4c 2d

Glenn  bets out and is called, in the words of Miller..."well he can't have hit any of that"

turn  4d

Glenn check raises and John Pushes "trying to get him off whatever he has got"

Ho hum.

one table has now broken. Wonder what the evening film is at the Odeon?

Rick Trigg just faced a situation

I arrive to see Trigg, the small blind, betting 1,200 into a 1,800 pot on a board of

 3d 8h 6d 3h 4d

only for Christopher Wright from UTG make it 3,000

Trigg made what appeared to be a reluctant call with  Jd 7d and was shown  Ad 8d

Elsewhere on a high powered table Karl Mahrenholz with only 3,000 left and Joey Lovelady down to 6,000 appear to have suffered at the hands of Andreas Hoivold with 20,000

On another table Andrew Seden is leading the way with over 20,000. Albert Sapiano down to 5,000

Late entries include Carlo Citrone and Michael Ellis

Here's the aforementioned Christophere Wright on the,er, left

Next to him Jim Reid and on the right Keith Hawkins

Keith whenever I walk by has the quizzical and faintly amused air of a player wondering quite what he is witnessing

Albert watch..catch him while you can

Sture Saxrud makes it 300 in mid position

Andrew Seden flat calls on the button

Albert Sapiano calls on the big blind

flop  Kd 8h Kc

Albert fires out 800, Sture flat calls and Seden passes

Both check the  9c turn

The river brings  Ac

Albert check calls the 600 bet from Saxrud, who holds  Ad Jh with  9h 5d

A hand played out just now where he limped under the gun for 100

Christopher Wright made it 300 in mid position and was called in turn by Reid, Hawkins, Martin Cousins, Jelinek and David Powley. Crikes!

A flop of  Qh Qd Qc evinced a chuckle or two

Checked to Wright he made it 500, called by Cousins in the big blind

check check on the  6s turn

Cousin check called 600 on the  8h river, showed down  Ad 8d but was met by Wright's  Kc Ks

Joey Lovelady 7,000, Tom MacDonald 22,000 and Andreas Hoivold 14,000 are sharing the same table

Grandmaster Funk Trigg has been having fun. Arriving at a three way hand I spy that the Grandmaster of Dance has bet 4,500 on the river into a 9,000 pot

the board reads  4d Td 9d 5h Qs

Martin Cousins in the big blind has checked and Jim Reid deliberates eventually calling the 4,500. Cousins mucks and the Funkmeister who is playing this hand from early position flips  Kd 5d for the flopped second nuts. Reid mucks and Triggs wins a near 20,000 pot with a nicely judged value bet.

He now has 25,000

He, Jim Reid and the two blinds see a  3h 7h Qc flop

Checked to Reid in position who fires out a 800 bet, the blinds pass and Trigg check-raises to 3,800. Reid pushes and its only a small amount more to Rick who calls

Reid  Qh Jh

He is a model of decorum. In fact his skull chip protector shows more life than he does, Trigg has a very quiet and determined table presence. Saving the shapes for when they matter, they'd be wasted on these players

George MacDonald had a rough ride today. The coup de Grace of his exit came when AK lost to A10, all in pre, ten on the flop.... but most of the damage was done earlier when Pocket Kings ran into Paul Gardener's AQ, Queen on flop, Queen on river

We've broken to three tables and Trigg has an interesting seat draw

Sits now directly to the right of in order Citrone, Hoivold and Muse

Just now saw him raise on the button to 825 with one limper, Tim (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433) Flanders (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=433) in the cut-off, before him.

Flanders check-raises to 2700 and Trigg lets go

Haitao Wu and David Powley clash

Wu limps for 200

Powley raises to 700 on the button with  Kd Kc

called

flop  7d 6d 4d

Wu check raises the shorter-stacked Powley all-in

Powley calls

Wu has  Ad 6h

turn  Td

river, just to rub it in a little,  Ks

Wu's a pretty boy then, with 40,000 chips plus

Mo Muse wins another pot, this time with a flopped set of threes

Citrone pipes up "that's four sets you've flopped today"

and a phlegmatic Muse replies "yes, and I lost 10,000 on the last one!"

In that hand he held 4-4 and saw a fantastic Q-Q-4 flop

However Ifthkar Ali holding Q-2 in the blinds and an unraised pot, was going nowhere, and turned a 2 to double up

It is time to address the controversial "surname first" issue highlighted for Citrone Carlo

I spoke to the Oracle, Mr Raab and the in depth interivew went as follows

Investigative journalism at its finest

Q. "So Jonathan, about your expenses claim for a moat cleaner and toilet duck?"

A "I did not claim for those items"

Q "Why is Carlo's name backwards?"

A "It isn't"

Q. "Is so"

A "Oh"

Q "Come on then, what is the conspiracy behind this?"

A "Well all the alternates were entered surname first off the system here. I noticed all the others but not Carlo. I will change it now"

Conclusion: So there you have it: surname-gate resolved, but not the issue of the toilet duck claim.

LOL, thank you sir.

Steve Wills is the last player to leave the competition half way through level 7 which sets the time target for the length of tomorrow

Henning Grandstad raised to 1600, Steve with 6,000 left in the big blind Pushed with  5h 6h. Henning calls with  Aspades Td, Ace first card out

Overnight chip counts to follow

Tighty, can you grab some interviews with some of the players still remaining please? Maybe a photo of each one, it will help us visualise them better and obv make the update even better than it is, if at all possible.

TIA

Great updates Mr Prew. What did you think of the buffett? Any good?

Three sittings would suggest 7 Tighty stars out of 10

Jeez, 3 sittings and only 7 out of 10? what would it take to get 10 tighty stars or has that just never been achieved?

It was an 8 out of 10 actually

10 out of 10? well that's into the realms of fantasy

Two cans of baked beans, 1lb of cheese melted in, served over a bed of black pudding slices, gently garnished with parmesan?
10 Tighty stars out of 10. Done.

OK, time for a rant. The original watergate scandal was not about water. Yet journos who write about scandals these days put the word gate after the subject matter of the scandal involved. Does my fuckin' head in.
