Title: gala notts £550 SOLD OUT
Post by: dousche on August 03, 2009, 03:12:36 AM
hi guys, im looking to sell 30% of my action at the gala nots GBPT £550 event on 15/16 August for £225.

The player

For those of you that don't know me my name is Michael Millar (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=88373). I've just graduated from uni and am just beginning a poker-heavy gap year. Iv played a few (maybe 15ish..?) similar sized live comps, including this one last year (came back day 2 but no good), with some success - including winning the £300 DC at broadway outright last february. Online screen names are dousche (tilt) and bigtax888 (stars) - the OPR stats for these arent great, but the samples are very small given the field sizes. Not included in these is the 100k gntd Boss network comp i won a while back for E24500 (thats supposed to be a euro symbol by the way...).

The tournament

The main event of the Nottingham leg of this tour is on 15/16 August and is a 2-day £500+50 freezeout. These events include a LOT of guys that qualify at their local gala which tends to bring the standard down a wee bit. While the structure can't really compare with GUKPT/DTD, the 60 minute levels leave plenty of room for good poker. I've heard from Blatch that the standard of play at the Teesside comp was pretty hilarious so I'm sure that I'm worth the premium (im selling at about 73% equity by my calculations - please correct me if I'm wrong).

Obviously if there are any questions then post away.

Mike

hi guys. sorry to disappoint but due to recent rungoodaments im happy enough to put myself into this fully, probably serves me right for putting the thread up too early. again, really sorry to do this to you guys - hope this is ok. in an attempt to make it up i'll give the two of you first refusal on similar sized stakes for my next staking proposal.

Title: Re: gala notts £550 SOLD OUT
Post by: dousche on August 10, 2009, 10:57:35 PM
ok, i wasnt quite sure what the response would be about this.

on the one hand i personally think that it is the right of both stakers and stakees to pull out of the stake for whatever reason prior to the event. the reason for most (including my) requests is that i didnt feel that i had the bankroll to absorb the variance associated with the tournament and the staking agreement is an arrangement whereby the stakers absorb some of this risk at a negotiated rate in order to take some of the expected profits. i offered up a staking request not so that people could have a vested interest in me, nor so that i could share any successes with fellow blondes (although these are both added bonuses). thus me thinking that i am now able to absorb this variance was the sole factor in me asking to cancel the stakes.

on the other hand i suppose i can see that this may be "poor form" an a not-so-gracious way of reacting to aforementioned recent rungoodaments. im relatively new to this lark and sometimes im really not sure what is/isnt deemed as acceptable behaviour. clearly from some of the replies to this thread many of you feel that im being a bit of a dweeb. as such, i will honour the stakes - including blatch's (who graciously offered for me to publicly say that i am honouring his but take the 20% of myself). im sorry if i insulted anyone, it wasnt the intention - it was merely naivety about what is/isnt acceptable.

i hope that people can see the logic behind my thoughts/actions and that this doesnt reflect too poorly on me  :(

Hey Mike,

Thanks for above.  I personally dont really mind what you have done but I think it would have been nice to have been asked if we minded or give us the option or something.

The one thing I would say that you mentioned is that can you imagine the hassle it would cause if was round the other way?  i.e. the staker cancelling on the stakee

Say for example I had put someone in a tourney in Scotland - they had booked hotel, flights and all sorts and I simply turned round and said im pulling out; it would cause havoc.

Small point but if you were to go on and win it I don't think me or Blatch could be anything but a bit gutted and that's the complete opposite of how I'd normally feel if someone told me you took down a comp

fair point neil, definitely shoulda consulted you guys first, definitely regret not doing that.

as far as the whole thing is concerned i apologise for being a clown. i try to act with a bit of integrity in everything i do and this is no different, just an error of judgement on my part and im sorry for that. obviously added pressure on the win now though!

sorry stu, always a sick way to go out. as george said, you werent the last person to lose with aces against me! (i run so good, mbsfn etc etc). took me a while to remember the ak hand, just remembered it now. imo you got let off by him, he should have stacked you. once you've reraised pre (which is standard obv) i think its hard to get away from the k-hi board as it only really aces or kings that he can have that you're behind.

im heading back for day 2 after a pretty crazy up and down day with 75k (ave 56) - 15 left and 9 paid. there's still plenty of good players still in: leknave on my right, matt perrins to my left, blatch to his left and the list goes on....

anyways, im off to bed. gl all blondes returning tomorrow (obv not too much gl)

wiiiiiiiiiii mincash!  :( 9th = £1150, =£115 to cos and £230 to blatch. if you could both send me your bank details i'll get the money shipped asap.

i went back on day 2 2nd in chips (i think) and had a good first couple of levels, building up to around 110k - mainly through standard blind stealing plus a couple of 3-bet spots and a really nice river value bet against jon butters. got knocked down to about 45k after 4-betting with KT to put blatch all in, he made a nice call with 99 and held, leaving me with just over 20bbs with 12 remaining. the next 3 exits all came quite quickly actually and we were down to a final before i found a spot to get my chips in! the final lasted all of about 5 hands for me when, as the shortstack with 11-12 bbs, i moved in on the button with  5d 6d and got called by blatch's  Aspades  7h. gg me.

i think i played pretty well overall, obv got lucky when allin with queens against james keys' aces - but that was the only time i was all in apart from my exit hand. the field was better than many of us expecting. with only 82 runners making the trip, most of the familiar faces were there but perhaps 30 less weaker players than some of us anticipated. obviously its always frustrating to make the final and not go big but, as always, it only takes a couple more key pots to go your way (race vs blatch, aq<aj w/25 left for 3.5xaverage) when you're deep and it could be a different story - thats not a moan btw, anyone playing tournaments has to accept that big cashes often rely on spots out of your, or anybody's, control.

anyways, thanks for the stake guys, glad i could give you at least a small return. wp blatch and also matt, who i met for the first time this weekend - thought he played well and was a nice guy to boot.

You sure it was Matt? :P

Unlikely Mike, particularly against Blatch. In future I would advise getting it in against him with overpairs only as the last time he missed 3+ outs was the middle of 2004

What's this "standard blind stealing" of which you speak? I thought you just got loads of good hands.  ;)

Was good to meet you this weekend mate. WP and unlucky not to go further.

The AJ<AQ hand was pretty brutal. Would've made you huge and I think with that stack you would've run over the table. I don't think you lay down on that A34 board with an extra 100k behind for a start.

See you again soon.

Matt

Ugh, apologies for omitting Blatch & Dave Jones.

We missed the start, as we were filming at the Castle, & by the time we returned, Dave Jones was, sadly, no more. Blatch blundered on though - nice blundered, but blundered - in one of the funniest Finals I've ever seen, where the rule appeared to be "get it in bad".  Played in terrific spirit, too.

With half the Finalists remaining, Brammer (Branmer?), Perrins, Blatch & Trickett all looked the class acts they are, & Butters was being slightly over-run, but he's better than he looks, I fancy. He's off to Macau next, too. Very nice.

Yeah Butters was no mug. Certainly not easily outplayed.

I was sat to his right for a long time on Saturday evening and he made my life tough when he was short stacked.

I had to alter my range significantly as he was happy to shove the lot in until he got his double up.

Nice guy too. Not too happy about him calling for Blatch's 8 against me but never mind, I'll forgive him.
