Play begins at 2pm. Expecting a bigger field today, so things will be busy

In the meantime, while I wend my way down the M1, on at J12 past Toddington services and then the straight section with Dunstable and the North Downs on my right, Luton and Leagrave and the Vauxhall factory on my left, before turning off at J11 and along Hatters way behind the football ground, up the dual carriageway past the Days Inn and into the car Park

Please consider this:

Jeff Kimber made it through yesterday and returns tomorrow. He asked on his facebook this morning for his friends to make suggestions for what he could do with a completely free day in Luton.

What would you suggest to him?

Stockwood park ... hire a set of clubs and have a round of golf ... It used to be one of the best municipal courses in the country, not sure if thats still the case ... Good driving range there too.

Bigfella..Glen Laming is playing today "have had a good run lately, so decided to buy in" MBN

Apparently he gave Rookie some money, along with others, to play cash last night. Returns were, ahem, healthy I gather.

He won't be going anywhere. I've woken up with severe vomiting and runny tummy, I definitely have the flu and I was sat next door to him yesterday.

First mistake Tighty. Come off at J10, & you are 2 minutes from the G, (not quicker, but a more aesthetically pleasing route in) & go past Stockwood Park on the way, which, as Kev suggests, is uplifting for all sorts of reasons. They have a Golf Course, Riding Stables, Vehicle Musuem, & a Bee Garden. Yes, a Bee Garden.

Aesthetically you are correct but I rather got in the habit during the major roadworks of leaving at J11 as the congestion so often began before J10. Of course also the view of the Kenilworth Road main stand from the rear has its attractions too.

I will though begin to use J10's turn off, now I am less likely to be stung by delays

Don't underestimate bees. Life would be very different without them. Industrious things, bees. Busy, even.

Lol - I wonder what language Andreas will think Fenman Paul is conversing in?

And making moves on Fenman is not a wise idea. He is East Anglia's very own Albert.

These two have had a bit of bad luck. Drawn to play on the same table as Bigfella.

As I passed Mr Akenhead I nodded, no words necessary, in appreciation of his achievement. He seemed taken aback, but was reassured when I told him he would soon get used to the cameras and the media attention that being on Bigfella's table would bring.

Here is Alan McBride.."Lucky" on the forum

Alan is 50 this year and last Friday Mrs McBride walked into the casino and went to the cash desk. She bought Lucky into this event as a birthday present and earlier this week Lucky wrote to me to let me know. He'd like to say thank you to Mrs M.

Alan told me that this sort of buy-in is way above his normal fare but he was going to give it a good go anyway. His game, of course, has come on "leaps and bounds" and he is in great form

In return for posting a pic of Alan, I am hoping Mrs M wil buy me into next week's £20 rebuy comp. One time.

 The Camel is OUT

As he left the table I approached with trepidation

"Give me the gory details Keith" I asked in soothing tones

Keith threw a hand in the air, grinned and said

"I limped with Aces, and lost to a straight"

"Who had the straight Keith?" I enquired, pressing my luck

"Roberto Romanello" came the answer

I must be confused, 20 x 9 = 180 but there are or were 197 players. There are a few players I was looking for that I didn't see mentioned either.

Aha, there's one more, I still don't see Andrew Seden or Ramsey Ajram though

that's because both arrived late and are in  seat 10s so not on the original player list

Tom Middleton 12,000

ChipRich 12,000, looking a little frustrated

Roberto Romanello 22,000

Paul Ephremsen 25,000. Doubled through with AA v KK

Pino Valentino 30,000..think he knocked out Jim Reid to get there

Stephen Pearce 20,000 wearing shirt of the day. Pic will have to follow but only when he is distracted. He has a fierce mien.

Stuart Nash 16,000

James Akenhead 13,000

Glen Laming 8,000

Looks like the comp has hit £305,000 pool from the (obviously) 305 runners. Down from the 376 of last year

I so love how you try to slip these things in, almost hoping they won't get noticed.

"OED - mien. air or bearing especially as expressive of attitude or personality"

The most apt word in this case.

I suppose someone will come along shortly & say "he's shit" because he has the temerity to make a lairy kidz stylee play.

It's all a matter of class, & style.

remember the Will Martin laydown of the set of 4's earlier. Well that was against Steve Kirk. Not sure I can lay down too many sets to Steve Kirk who is frequently "at it" (which is why Will is playing and I am reporting I suppose)

Anyway Steve assures me he had a set of Queens, so Will has to be classed as making a terrific laydown

Steve Kirk has 17,000 and is sounding confident

Paul Ephremsen is up to 35,000. A streaky player is Paul. Talented, aggressive, handsome, thin.  Sigh

Anyway he had a flopped set of Aces against Laurence Houghton's flopped set of Jacks. Even I might be able to get some chips out of that one

The lady in the top photograph is one of today's players, now knocked out. Olga Brzezinska

Olga, I discovered, represented Poland at Rhythmic Gymnastics in the Olympics eight years ago before emigrating and becoming a professional cyclist in the Women's tour de France

She moved to England on retiring and discovered poker. At first only playing online she began to venture a little further afield only recently.

She takes up the story

"It was in Nottingham last weekend and I enjoyed my first live tournament, particularly the kindness shown to me by one player, though that player kept moving around and hogging the limelight. I resolved to play again this week. Imagine my delight to now be so closely situated to the father of that player who so kindly showed me how not to play poker. Girgy his name was"

You are hereby INSTRUCTED to be hovering - hovering, not hoovering - round Martin Green's Table when it gets to drawing a card for "how many hands left". In fact, I offer £10 if you can arrange for Mr Raab to get Martin to pick the card.

Photo, too, please.

Chip Rich is less than amused

He raises with Kings from a 14,000 stack. Trevor Pearson in the blinds shoves his 8,000 in with J10 suited

Rich obviously calls. Here is his chance to make some progress

board 9-10-Q-K-x

Leaves him with 6,000

Bang goes my chance of getting him to smile today

On a board of 5--6--2--6--K withthree spades and 6,000 in the pot.

Albert Sapiano bets 3,500 on the end

Roberto Romanello thinks and thinks, he has 10,000 left.

Eventually Roberto makes the call...

Alberto shows 7-4 for a busted straight draw.

Roberto shows 2-3 for bottom pair, to scoop!

Andy Ward is out.

As I am am avid fan of his strategy blog I enquired of him "I suppose it was a case of three betting light once too often?"

He replied "Pretty much"

I then told him "Most of the time they can't call"

I wouldn't be surprised to see him do a strategy post on this next week

On a flop of 5--4--Q with 2 hearts all the money goes in between

James Akenhead holding A-Q

&

Richard Ashby holding J-7 of hearts

8 of hearts on the turn which is enough for Richard to double up to 30k

James is left with 18k.

While the expression 'most of the time they can't call' is generally attributed to MDD, the jury is still out as to whether he ever actually uttered this phrase.
True, it does sound like something the cumudgeonly veteran may say but there is little evidence to back up this theory.

PS, David Buckle is out

He definitely said it one night after pushing a gazillion big blinds all in utg with Queens and running into Kings. As he stood up, a colossus amongst poker gnats, he said the words and shuffled off into the night

Meh, fair enough, the jury has deliberated and passed its verdict in that case. He's also said it to me a couple of times. To be fair, he's right though. Most of the time they can't. Except when they do. Then you're farked.

For a 300 runner field, which you updated Solo, that's a terrific effort Rich, thanks.

I have no doubt Kev will do just as well today & tomorrow, & I'll be there Sunday too, with Orpey, to annoy him, & give him some norkage material..

What a great Field goes into Day 2, as well - one of the best GUKPT Day Two's ever.

The guy whose Kings busted Captain Kirk's Jacks is young James Williams. Toby Lewis is the best young player I've seen this year, by a considerable margin, but James, once he finds his gear lever, is a very, very good chip-getter. Once he learns to stop making so many hero plays at the sharp end, he'll win big, & plenty.

And I plan to enjoiy Kev's bit of "sport" today........

leknave/flushy/horneris yous not know know neail from playing online?

yeah we do, met up with him + larss7on in vegas, good lads. glglgl to him + mid.

june he was a douche, we played cash and rooks took a pot and offered to show him 1 card, rooks let him pick, after he flipped it, this kid
flipped the other over, total c**** trick

Neil aka Puggy aka Aceman on blonde says....

This happened and i was out of line, but as Leknave pointed out if you are going to tell the story put it in context.

I pitched up hammered and you boys were all having a drunken laugh throwing money around at basically a private table and invited us to sit down.

I turned both cards over and drunk or not is a "douche" thing to do, and i apologise.... but i would have thought you would have forgiven me considering i dropped ~ $1k to you boys

Enjoyed the tourney yesterday, hopefully i can continue to run well today.

Neil
