praz bansi chip leader...mbn

BANSAI!!!

Moments before the break, Praz Bansi eliminated Team PokerStars Mexico Pro J.C. Alvarado from the main event, catapulting himself to the very top of the leaderboard. Our own Mickey Doft was on the scene recording the following details:

Bansi opened the pot with a standard raise before the flop from early position and Alvarado made the call from the big blind. The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Alvarado passed the first action to Bansi who fired a continuation bet of 7,000. Alvarado then check-raised to 21,000 and Bansi responded with a three-bet to 45,000. Alvarado answered with another raise, kicking it up to 90,000 -- and understandably so, as he held the mortal nuts -- {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. Bansi just called the four-bet.

When the dealer burned and turned the {4-Clubs}, Alvarado checked to Bansi who moved all in; he had Alvarado covered. Alvarado made the call for the rest of his chips -- a little over 200,000 -- only to see Bansi turn over {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a turned flush.

The river blanked, ({5-Diamonds}), and Bansi's flush held up to take down what was the biggest pot of the day, bringing him to a field-leading 720,000 in chips.

Is it really that bad though? He opens a nice hand and gets called from the BB.

He just plays it nice and aggro on the flop as you would expect following an EP raise. BB checks so obv we have to c bet. We get check raised and think BB may be at it so fire again which is perfectly reasonable. Oppo now turns his hand face up with the 4 bet but very generously gives us nearly 4 to 1 + the implied odds that he's going to donk off if we actually hit.

Whilst it's not the way I would've played it (fold pre for me) it looks pretty good to me.

Matt are you 3 bet folding to a shove on the flop if they guy doesn't 4 bet to such a rubbish amount? are you check folding the turn if you dont bink instantly?

Yeah course it's a 3 bet fold. We know we're behind and we could be in a world of shit if oppo is 4 bet semi bluffing with the NFD.

Oppo's bet is only a rubbish amount if he's stacking off. If he's 3 betting to induce a shove from the flush draw it's fine. If he's passing when a club comes it's fine. Stacking off makes it a rubbish amount because he's gifted his oppo a good price to make what would otherwise have been a bad call.

We're in position so unlikely to get the chance to check fold.

Praz is just so fkin good it's demoralising. You seen the table draws he had yesterday en route to being chip leader? Only Bonomo, Minieri, Ivey and Demidov, among others. What a sicko. Different class.

Can you make this play he's done here to get the chip lead?

Title: Re: PokerStars PCA Caribbean Adventure thread
Post by: Royal Flush on January 08, 2010, 05:07:48 PM
He was probably freerolling the whole hand from chips he won without showdown. I don't doubt for a second that he knew exactly what he was doing.

I've played JC Alvarado before, he's a tricky bastard and very loose, Praz probably decided the high probability that JC had air meant calling the first check-raise wasn't as good a play as raising it. Once the 4bet comes, Praz's hand plays itself.

Please

Have heard Praz Bansi has made it into day 4 of the PCA with 62 other players with the avg stack at 875k and he has around 2.1m in chips. Seems he came back from a big set back too, where he ended up doubling up Ivey where he flopped a pair and the nut flush draw vs Iveys set. Ivey ended up holding up to double through.

Good luck to him would be nice to see a Brit take down such a prestigious tournament.

LOL... I laughed at the bit when he says he was down to 65k three bb's then ran it up to 2 million because of how brilliant he played i think even Ivey would admit to be getting hit up the face way the deck to do this.

Good luck to the fella as he's just a ordinary guy drives taxis i think but he did come across like a knob in that interview.

Yes, he had 3 and a half bb's (65k) about two hours ago and now has 2 million, he acting like he must be the best, then says, but I did get aces.

Oh well done mate. I hate people that are arrogant and obnoxious like that so I couldn't care if he wins.

He is obviously extremely intelligent you can tell this by the way he talks, the way he breaks down hands and the fact that his brain is so large it is expanding his skull.

This guy surely has to be an epic level - the 3 1/2 big blinds spin from 76k to 2 million is [ ] "sensational" - [ ] "cream will always rise."

Kid sure looks like he analyses the game well and approaches the game with mathematical and logic based theories and doesn't let his ego of 4 days of  "sensational" poker [coolering the entire population of St Lucia] affect his poker at all.

Seems the perfect ambassador for PokerStars tbh.

Stars blog

At nineteen years old, Gimbel takes over as the youngest PCA champion in history. Five days ago, we introduced you to him as he cracked Barry Greenstein's aces with six-four offsuit, all-in pre-flop. Today, he can hold a trophy and millions above his head.

Gimbel (aka gibler321) is an online grinder for the most part, but was confident going into this final table. A one-time high school wrestler, Gimbel recalled his coach once telling him to see victory in his head.

"One of the things my coach always used to say was to envision something and it will come true," Gimbel said.

The winner of a $1,000 live satellite here at the PCA, Gimbel parlayed a seat into $2.2 million, a result that few poker pros will ever see.
