Title: Bradford City A.F.C
Post by: LeedsRhodesy on April 28, 2010, 10:23:32 PM

When it comes to the last home game of the season its always a big day down at VP for bradford Fans, We remember the 56 fan who lost their life at the game what was meant to be a happy day for Us as we had just won promotion from the old div 3,

I was only 5 at the time and was not at the game but i had  been to most games that season the only reason i was not there was because it was sold and and my dad did not want to risk taking me, I dont remember the day,  but what im told we dropped my Dad off at the game and me my mum and brother went into Bradford Shopping, 40 mins into the game a small fire broke out in the stand, It only took 4 mins to burn the whole stand down the the ground.

My mum tells me she  could see the smoke for the city centre and had easy found out what was going on, The news report was 100's of fans had died in the stand, remember this was a time without mobile phones so i can't think of the worrie and what my mum was thinking

for them who don't know anything about it i have left a  tribute video and when This Saturday comes i hope all of you can spend a few  mins to remember the 56 fans who died that day

R.I.P

Just so you know the you tube clip is very sad and shows a few things you might not want to see

Very sad day.   Another completely preventable disaster where innocent people died.

I've watched an unedited video of the fire as part of some fire training I received at Chubb.  Really upsetting footage.

RIP the 56 - YNWA

Very sad day!!

I was only 3 at the time so I wasn't there but my Dad and Grandad were in that stand at the time! Luckily they were situated near the centre of the stand right next to the dugouts.

Once they realised what was going on then my Dad had to literally throw my Grandad onto the roof of the dugout as he was unable to get over! Some other fans helped them to safety!

My Dad has told ne stories about the day which must of left terrible thoughts in the minds of those that had to witness people burning alive in the tradigy!

RIP to the 56 and my thoughts are with their familys x x

i surveyed the club shop at bradford about 4 years ago, and would you believe the one problem with it was the fire compartmentation and fire protection to the structure

[  ] wp great place to chose to save money
[  ] wp building control

Thats shocking, I knew about it but never really looked into exactly what happened.

At the start you can see people weren't too panicked by the little fire in the middle of the stand. Can't beleive how fast it spreads.

Watch the youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=DkTFG9c1QfY

Its a radio commentary from the day, quite disturbing how much changes in 1 minute. They really did have no chance.

RIP

We have a small problem at bradford city with a bunch of under 15's who have just watched Green Street and think they are big and hard, Cant wait to see how big and hard they are when/if we go up  and play teams like millwall, Leeds, Cardiff its only when we play the small teams and they only bring a few 100 fans they is any trouble

You off this Sunday Rhodesy?

Taken from Bradford City Website...

Bradford City Football Club can confirm that Peter Taylor has decided not to retain the services of the following players:

Jonathan Bateson
Rory Carson
Matthew Clarke
Matthew Convey
Matthew Glennon
Steven O'Leary
Luke Sharry

The seven players listed above will now leave the football club when their contracts expire.

The football club would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their efforts during their employment with Bradford City and wish them all the best for the future.

Players on loan to the football club will now also return to their parent clubs at the end of the season.

The football club will now begin contract negotiations with the remaining players in Taylor's squad who have contracts that expire in the summer.

Being in Leeds all my life Bradford is only 20mins drive away and as a youngster my Dad took me to valley parade lots of times if Leeds were away. We went to a few games that season and it still find it disturbing it could have happened to anyone there. RIP those who died and the families of those that lost people..tragic.

Presume 16's is off a mate, you will be lucky to get 16's on them winning the league.

On betfair they will be around 4.5 to get promoted.

Went to spotland today to watch our penultimate friendly of the season! Also a new ground to me as will Shrewsbury next Saturday!

Was a decent game! Bradford controlled the first 20mins of first half. Then scored 10mins into second half. Rochdale equalised then got a penalty immediately after but our keeper pulled off a good save!

City look good for the upcoming season. Watch this space!!

Feels pretty good to be a Bradford City fan right now :) never in my wildest dreams did i think id ever get to see my team play at Wembley but twice in one season is just unbelievable Jeff!! What a cup run early in the season and was totally outclassed after so many gritty performances in the League Cup. After that the league took priority and at one point it looked like another season in league two beckoned but a late run of results saw us clinch the last play off spot in the penultimate game of the season.

On to the play offs and after losing 3-2 in the first leg at home we still had a chance and went on to win 3-1 in the second leg to secure a second trip darn sarf to Wembley.

So here we are today and we headed to wembley to finish the job we started 63 games ago and that was to gain promotion. And it was all over in the first 28 minutes after going 3-0 up :) as a city fan you always fear the worst and after half time we just knew the lads had their heads on the game and saw it out.

I really wish my dad could of been here to witness the last 4 months with me but i know he was there watching today. He and my grandad were there 28 years ago last week when sadly 56 perished in a terrible disaster that hit our club. Gone but never forgotten, Always in our thoughts xx
