George Bedi makes it 2,000 on the button

Karl Snow raises to 10,800 in the big blind

George cogitates and digests and eventaully pushes his remaining 24,000 in

He must have picked something up as Snow declares "I actually put the wrong chips in, I meant to call" ie two blues not two yellows

He has to call for the price he is getting

George  Ahrt 7s

Karl  9h 9s

the board runs out to give George two pair and double through

Matt H aka Matt Heasman

On 60,000 he lost 25,000 of his stack with second but flush versus nut flush then he takes up the story....

"UTG calls, seat 2 makes it 5,000, seat three makes it 15,000, I push for 35,000 with K-K. UTG passes, seat 2 passes Q-Q and seat 3 calls off with 8-8. I double back up"

Mitch Johnson makes it 3,800 UTG+1

Alex Blyakher from israel dwell Hollywood pushes for 25,000 next to act

folded to Peter Charamlambadigdong on the button who flat calls the shove

At this point  Mitch shoots me a glance, raises his eyebrows and gives me a rueful smile that immediately indicates to me that his interest in the hand is over

Indeed, folded back to him,he passes...only saying "paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass" with the longest "a" since someone invented the word Aardvark

Alex  9d 9h

Charra the inevitable  Ahrt Ac

 Tc 7h 6s 3h 2h

and Charra adds another 30,000 to his stack

Dominic "Nico29" Kay is over 140,000

Maria Demetriou has an interesting spot. She is in position on chip leader Mark Aldridge, to the right of Maudlin and with Kay round the back

How did Aldridge become chip leader?

I was alerted to a big pot that was happening by Anthony Cartwright, who wasn't in the hand but was at the table. On a board of A♣Q♣3♣A♠5♥ Marc Aldridge, who was the cut-off, had bet 25,000 into a pot of approximately 60,000 and Kieran Appleby was contemplating what action to take. Whilst Appleby was tanking Cartwright told us how they had reached this point: Aldridge had raised pre-flop and Appleby had three-bet, Aldridge flat called, they then both checked the flop. On the turn Appleby checked, Aldridge bet, Appleby raised and Aldridge re-raised, Appleby called. Eventually Appleby elected to fold A♠J♦ face up, Aldridge showed 8♦7♦ for a pure bluff. Aldridge now has a stack approaching 200,000 and is probably the chip leader

How did Bedi get to 230k, before 160k?

"the button opened and the small blind (Joseph McCormick )flatted. I raised in the big blind with A-Q. Button folds, McCormick shoves. I call all-in. Ace on the flop and I am over 200,000"

Used to work with Mark at Gala Leicester, he's since left and had some decent results at DTD and elsewhere.

Excellent player, quite aggro (as you can see from the above post) but knows when to slow down. He'll be dangerous with chips.

Any updates on Sulaiman Idris-Dabo and Ritesh Chuahan would be appreciated.

New chipleader

Andrew Hulme is now our runaway chip leader, having just felted Sam Grafton in a pot of around 250,000.

A board of  Kc Ac 8s 4h.

Hulme checked and Dale Garrad bet 11,500. Grafton called, putting the decision back with Hulme. He raised to 42,500.

Garrad didn't take too long to fold, but Grafton called, taking them to a  Js river.

Hulme moved in for 63,000 and Grafton, priced in, called.

"Set of eights?" asked Garrad.

Hulme tabled  4d 4s for a turned set.

Grafton mucked. Garrad was happy to have folded ace-king. "You had to have a set," Garrad said.

Grafton was left with about 2,500 which went in on the next hand. His  7c 8c couldn't beat the pocket queens of Steve Brown and Grafton's grind came to an end

"The big blind decides to look me up with  Qs Js. The board comes  Jh Jd 6c Qh and by the time the river came I wasn't interested in what is was!"

Not allowed at Poker Stars events, so fair enough. I assume the worry is that it disturbs players, which is again fair enough

OK Some changes have been announced

Today they are going to play down to the money, 72 players

Tomorrow they are going to play 72 down to the final, 12pm start

Final on Sunday

I have to fly to Austria in the morning in a travesty of tournament scheduling but I am committed elsewhere.

So Sharplea will be covering the two day's play over the weekend. Thank you very much to him for doing this, and to Poker Stars for covering his costs. Very, very much appreciated

and, I get some time off on Monday rather than coming back for the final!

I arrive to see a board of  Ts Ahrt Td

Pete Charalamous, the pre-flop raiser has bet this flop and Tony Millan the pre-flop caller in position has raised

Peter 4-bets and it is most of Tony's remaining stack to play

After a long think Millan shoves in, and Peter calls

Tony  Aspades Js

Pete  Ac Qc

the turn comes a cruel  Jh

river  6h

Millan doubles through Charalambous at the cost of half Pete's stack, putting him on 80,000

Tom Middleton knocks out Marc Convey

After scaling the heights of about 60,000 at one point today, he had dwindled back to about 35,000 when he three-bet jammed over Tom Middleton's opener. "Middleton had been raising about 70 percent of pots," said Convey, by way of explanation. "This time he had jacks." Convey had fives and didn't improve.

Julian Thew's exit

Despite grinding his short stack up to about 50,000, Julian Thew is now out. Pippa Flanders opened to 13,500 in early position - bigger than a standard raise here - and Thew found ace-queen in late. He shoved. Flanders thought for a while and seemed like she might fold before calling with ace-king.

It was a queen-high board, but Flanders filled a straight, has about 130,000 now

George Kranios. 250,000. Picture a 35 year old dark haired tanned Mediteeranean chap. Immaculately dressed. Lives in Greece, qualified online on Stars where he plays Tournaments. Never played live before.

David Maudlin 300,000. David is a UK circuit regular from Middlesborough

I recount word for word our conversation

"David, your stack has had had a jump up"

"Yes, the last one was quite messy. The player raised with A-J, I called on the button with K-Q. Flop seven high rainbow. He bets, I call. Turn another seven. He bets small, I set him in, he calls. Great call to be fair"

"Oh" I said

"I river a Queen, he wasn't very happy" says David

125,000

I wish I could tell you how, but its too frantic for me to cover much

Anyway as I went to chip count a big hand went off on his table

I arrived to see Cam Law all in with KK, Graham Giles all in with AA and Mark Barsley all in with 88. Giles covered both.

From positional analysis I would say Barsley made the first move and KK and AA were in the blinds. Nasty

Flop K and the audience lets out a roar, Q, A...another bigger roar

turn 10 giving 88 four to the flush and both Kings and Eights a Jack for a split

river 4

Giles gets the lot

correction, David Maudlin is actually Anthony Cartwright.

That he didn't flinch and showed un-erring politeness when I called him David is to his credit, and not to mine.Sigh

Chompy was ahead of me on Ephremsen

Paul Ephremsen is now up with the chipleaders and has around 275,000. I didn't catch the hand myself but Dominic Kay who is seated at the same table told me that Ephremsen made a very good call with Q J  on a queen high board which also had two nines on it. His opponent was semi-bluffing with a gutshot straight draw, which missed on the river

This was a battle of the blinds that turned very ugly, particularly if your name is Shane Riley. He is now out, assassinated by Andrew Hulme.

The flop and turn were out:  7s Kd 5c 6c and Hulme checked. Riley bet 10,000, Hulme raised to 40,000 and Riley announced that he was all in. The words had barely left his mouth before Riley said: "I call," and tabled  8s 9d for the nuts.

Riley showed his  4c 7c and said to the dealer: "Better put another club out there, sweetie." She didn't oblige. The river was  Ahrt and Riley is out, his last 70,000-ish going to Hulme.

Hulme is now back around 180,000

and here was the hand where Middy lost his stack before the douuble up I reported

Middleton and Aldridge just played a big pot. Middleton who was in early position bet 8,000 on the  Kd 7d Kc board,

Aldridge, who was the small blind check-raised to 23,000.

Middleton looked at Aldridge for a while and eventually made the call.

Both players checked the  8d that fell on the turn.

The river card was the  Td

Aldridge fired out bet of 40,000 and Middleton called.

Aldridge flipped  8s 8c for a full house,

Middleton nodded and threw his cards into the muck. Aldridge is up to over 200,000

Paul Ephremsen has just pushed Dom Kay out of a pot, building his stack to about 280,000.

Kay opened to 7,300 from early position and Ephremsen called in the cut off, taking the two of them to a flop of

 Qh 2c 7s

Kay bet 9,400, Ephremsen called, and they now saw a  4s turn.

Kay checked, but insta-mucked when Ephremsen bet 30,000.

Kay is left with about 75,000.

So on the bubble the all in and call cannot be played out until all tables finish

My flight is at 7am tomorrow, worryingly

Just now Rana Gurnam pushed the small blind, Peter Abella called in the big blind

Rana  Js Jc

Peter  Kh Qs

Rana at risk

board  9c Kd Ahrt. The bubble is about to burst.

Camera crews jostle with spectators and I manage to get a crafty kick in on one chap who steps on my toes. Very satisfying too

Turn  Jd cue pandemonium

river  4d

and the cry goes out "dealers, deal one more hand"

Three players all in called and double up

If two players go out on the same hand they split the 72nd place prize money!

Mickey Wernick raises utg and Tony millan pushes utg+1. Wernick is left short if he folds, out if he loses

He passes J-J face up and Tony shows K-K

"First f--kin hand I have had all day" says Mickey "I don't want hands now"

Maria's setback was

I reached Maria Demetriou's table to see her counting out some chips and passing them to neighbour Gareth Walker. The cards were on their backs and it seemed Demetriou's ace-jack had lost out to Walker's ace-king on a board of 7♦6♥A♠8♥T♥. Demetriou slips to 80,000, Walker is up to 120,000.

Amazing game of cricket.

Jonathan Agnew on TMS: "Pakistan will feel they've been robbed, but if Australia can win a game like that, they can win any game of cricket, anywhere"

there is a raise to 150

HoldorFold makes it 750 with Aces

IPod Johnny announces "raise" and throws in 450

When told there have already been two raises says "oh" and makes it the required 1500

Foldy flats the 1500

flop k-3-3

foldy bets 2100, he tank shoves, she calls

He shows 6-3

ok then until the chip counts arrive I need to sign off and pack up

Thank you for following over the last three days.

We'd love to do UKIPT Updates in the future, but need Stars to ok that, and I wanted to show, on a voluntary basis, Stars what we could do. Lets hope it leads to something, but if not....I've had a lot of fun, and of course the combination of Poker Stars and DTD has made for a pretty special tournament. These boys know their stuff.

Please help Sharplea out over the next two days. It's not easy, I know, to pick up a tournament in mid-flow when you don't know the faces someone has spent three days getting used to.

Many many blondes left in in this, and good luck to all of them.

overnights, those I know are blonde members in bold

James Gray 2 7 58500

Hope today is better than yesterday, brief description of the day

Left hotel just before 11 to go to DTD
Locked keys in the boot of my car
Waited an hour for the RAC, only for them to tell me they would have to break a window
Got to DTD 15 mins late
Was told I was at table 55 seat 1
For some unknown reason sat in seat 9
3rd hand in call a raise with AK, king high flop and do 3k
Get back to hotel and find I have a parking ticket, even though I'm parked in the right place and have a visitors permit

Positives from the day. Still in although short stacked

Great job by tighty, must have been a nightmare getting round the tables, and thanks to Geo for comparing me to a World Class Athlete :)

Cheers

jambo

Gl today Jamesie, knowing you, you'll probs be back for Saturday with 40k and still FT

Geo

I wasn't far off.....stage 2 complete Jamesie, best of luck for tomorrow mate.

just got home- vwp tighty-   did the work of 6 ( well mor.e if comparing to stars updaters!) absoloute trooper over last 3 days. was pretty sick over exit hand- not had much going for me today- got moved to table full of 50yr+ big stacked hate to fold any pair or big cards . bb made hero call for 1/3 to 1/4 of his stack with qj soooooted. I had been pretty active after all- it being my 2nd raise at thetable in over an hour. It was only 11 bbs and ak same suit was never going to be a match forthe mighty qj. oh well vgl to maria- she really had her game head on hope she takes it down. thanks again tighty.

Geo your a legend, whats your predictions for tomorrow ?

Its been a fantastic tourney, the atmosphere on the bubble was amazing. Well done to DTD for having the balls to change the schedule, common sense is so under used these days.

Great updates Tighty - just read the whole lot - and also good to finally meet you.

Managed to cash with the amazing chip count of 28,000 with blinds at 3/6k going back lol
Not helped by having the 2 tournament leaders at my table while the bubble approached - no raises were getting through and failed to pick up any cards.
Still, i am still in there and fighting and will be shoving very early tomorrow in the hope of a couple of double ups.

Had the pleasure of sitting at the same table as Wayne Mardle for a few hours (and knocking him out) and he is a top bloke - great fun at the table.
Also had the pleasure of the nice dealer that was mentioned yesterday dealing at my table for quite a while - very nice girl indeed  ;)

Good luck to all blondes tomorrow - it will probably be short and sweet for me, but you never know.
I might even get dealt aces for the first time in the tournament!!!

Title: Re: Poker Stars UKIPT at DTD: Day 2
Post by: Forrester on May 15, 2010, 10:04:01 AM
DAY 2 - I started with 23k chips and had a nice surprise to be on table O'Connell.

Mr O'Connell is an outgoing character and I was hoping to learn something from his play. He said he was a little under the weather and had not got to bed till 6am. He proceeded to play most hands and as the play developed he was mainly going all in.

I questioned his strategy and he said the power of the all in bet was immense, but had to be used in the right place at the right time. I quickly discovered when the right time was - it was when it was his turn to act. This strategy meant that his stack varied in proportion to his starting range until eventually his luck ran out.

After that the table calmed down a bit and I gradually increased my stack to 125k. A player called Graham commented that I seemed to be getting good hands all the time and he had been existing on scraps. I did get good cards for about two hours but then the last two sessions I went card dead. Graham, however, Started hitting Aspades Ahrt and Ad Ac and  Ac Ahrt with amazing regularity and his stack of about 25k ended up 200k+ . In one hand he had  Aspades Ahrt againt  Kc Kd and 8h 8d with all 3 all in and he eliminated both players for a 120k pot.
In another hand he took a massive pot with AA again with the cards on board  Ad Kc Th 9s Ts all in and called - I think the other player had AK.
You have to expect to go card dead at some stage but hope that it dosnt last forever.

The bubble lasted nearly an hour and there was much discussion regarding what hands would be played and it was felt that only AA or KK was playable - someone even suggested that AA may be folded preflop.

I ended up with 83k so need to act quickly today to avoid beeing blinded out

Back at the hotel with a nice wee glass of wine. Just read the updates, fantastic job AGAIN tighty. Cheers to everyone for railing, with a special thanks to Mrs Jambo who was 21 again today, not sure how that works as we have been together for 23 years. oh well she must be right :).

Geo your a legend, whats your predictions for tomorrow ?

Its been a fantastic tourney, the atmosphere on the bubble was amazing. Well done to DTD for having the balls to change the schedule, common sense is so under used these days.

Good lick to all blondes tomorrow

Cheers

Jambo

Back tomorrow with 85k or CL (there's rarely any middle ground with you) I reckon and take at least top 3.

I know you have the patience of a saint mate, just hope you don't have to wait too long.

Very best of luck mate, all your hard work during the Gala/Coral tours hopefully get paid off tomorrow.

Geo
