Title: Poker Stars UKIPT at DTD: Day 3 and Final
Post by: KarmaDope on May 15, 2010, 09:57:26 AM
Hello all and welcome to day 3 of the PokerStars UKIPT, here at DTD in Nottingham. I'm currently racing against time to get here for 12pm, thank you East Midlands Trains, but I should just get there in time for the start.

Yesterday we played down from 270 to the money, and we are left now with 72, all guaranteed a minimum of £850 but all hoping to take down the first prize of £80,000. In that list are some well known faces, both from Blonde and DTD, such as Chili, George2Loose, Middy and Mitch. Join me (not Tighty!) today as we duck, dive, open 50% of pots with a short stack and play down to the final 9.

Any requests for any players, just post in this thread and I'll do my best to try and find them. You may have to give me a description though!

Finally, good luck to Tighty who has been updating since Day 1a, but has left us for the sunnier (I hope) climate of Austria this weekend.

Chip counts and seat draw will appear when I arrive at DTD, so I'll see you all at 12pm. Hopefully!

3 early exits already.

Shai Zurr pushed all in with Ac Jc only to find Piotr Majewski behind him with Qd  Qh. No help for Shai and he takes home £850.

Allen McAuley pushed his short stack in with Ts 3s and found a caller in Nishar Hassam, with Qc 8d. I caught this after the river, so I'm guessing it all went in on a Q-Q-4, 2 spade flop. The Q-8 held up.

Dale Garrad pushed from mid position with  Aspades 9s and David Swan flat called. Big stack Anthony Cartwright tanked for a good 3 minutes before unhappily folding  Th Ts. It was a good fold, as David opened  Jh Js, which hit a set on the 4c  2s  Jd flop. The 7d turn saw Dale head home whilst Anthony was laughing at the meaningless Tc river.

Big pot - Bedi involved:

George raised it up to 12k preflop and got 2 callers in George Kranios and Andrew Couldridgea. They saw a 4h 6h Jd flop, with Andrew checking to George B. He c-bet 18.5k and Kranios raised, but he only put 31k in. Kranios was forced to min-raise to 37k and Andrew got out of the way. Bedi called.

The turn was the Ks and Bedi quickly checked. Kranios thought about betting, but decided to check behind. The river was the 8s and Bedi bet out a meaty 45.5k. This sent Kranios into the tank for a good 5 minutes before a clock was called. The T.D came over and informed Kranios he had 60 secs to act. Kranios seemed surprised, and quickly called, only to be shown Kc Jh by Bedi. Kranios mucked and Bedi raked in the 200k pot.

UL mate, well played. Pity I missed that exit.

Chris Hepworth and Chuckles both got it all in pre with AQo, chop chop.

Leon Louis made it 12k to go, only to see Wadey push all in for about 80k. Dominic Kay, in the BB, tank-folded despite having 23k total and a BB of 5k in the pot! Louis folded to give Wadey the pot.

Next hand, it was folded to Dominic in the SB and he pushed blind. Greek Jack in the BB had to call and opened Q-2 to Dom's J-10. Neither player hit and Dom headed for the cash desk.

Chip counts:

Andrew Hulme - 200k
Chili - 95k
Big Charra - 150k
Mitch - 100k
Middy - 115k
Handsome Paul - 335k

Peter Seager has lost a chunk when he doubled up Zack Chesses. Chesses made it 27k to go preflop only to see Seager push all in, covering him easily. Zack snapped, as you do when you have Ac Aspades. Peter ruefully flipped Qh Qs and the 7h 3s 5c 7d Jh was queen-less, sending a 200k pot over to Zack.

Simon Wing is now up with the chipleaders after I caught Anthony Cartwright pushing lots of stacks over with Anthony's cards mucked and Simon showing A-K on a 7-Q-J-10-10 board. Simon has approx 450k.

Will go check on Mickey now for you.

6 tables left after the first level. At this rate I'll be home by 5pm!

Maria has doubled up, blind on blind she saw an Ace and shoved. The BB (Andrew Hulme, I think) had 4-4 and Maria hit a straight. Hulme has since busted.

Steve Brennan has knocked out someone I don't know yet, as I didn't get his name, he's not on the seating list or the exit lists yet either! Steve had K-K after his opponent pushed with J-J, and faded the club draw on the river for the Kings to hold.

Mark Aldridge - 250k and now on Maria's left.
Richard Sherwood - 85k

Stuart Hilton has doubled through Zahir Aslam when he pushed for 80k with 4h 4d and was called with Zahir's Aspades Qc. The board ran out Ts 3d 7h 6d 9s to send the pot in the direction of Hilton.

George has added another 100k to his stack when he scooped a 120k pot with A-10 on a 5-10-4-2-6 board, and then scooped a 80k pot after c-betting a 10-10-4 board and getting Nishar Hassan to fold Ac Kc, with Nishar rueing his decision to not push preflop.

Wadey is down to dust after he called Leon Louis' shove for 120k on a 4h 3d 10d flop, holding Qh Qd. Leon flipped 4d 6d for the flush draw and the gin 5d turn hit to give him the flush and the straight flush re-draw. The river was the Jc and Leon scooped.

Wadey is now out, details unknown.

Maria down to 45k :(

She doubled someone up when she bet 70k on a Js 5h 4h 6s board, only to see her opponent push all in for 80k total. Priced in, she had to call with Td 8s only to see the villain open As Jc. The river was the blankest of all blanks - 2d

Just snap folded to a 3 bet after opening from UTG+1.

He has about 100k I think, I'm still getting used to the chips.

Kieran Appleby has just doubled through Stuart Hilton with Th Ts vs Stuart's 8s 8c.

The K-5-6-K-Q board helped nobody, sending the pot to Kieran.

Paul Ephremsen OUT in 750k pot.

Paul raised preflop and got one caller in Oliver Schaffman. They saw a Qc Ahrt Tc flop and Paul bet 45k. Oliver called and they saw a 5s turn. Paul fired again, 65k, only to see Oliver say "All-In". Paul insta called and opened Ac Qs only to see Oliver had flopped the nuts with Kd Jd. The river was a useless 8s and Oliver is now the chipleader as Paul heads for the cash desk.

Down to 43 - Maria OUT.

She shipped 50k with A-7 from the hijack, and Middy called with K-J. Everyone else folded and the 2 blondes saw a 3-J-A flop. The turn was a harmless 5, but the river was a sickening K, sending Maria to the rail in 45th and giving Middy the pot and a 150k stack.

Mark Aldridge has approximately 450k and is one of the chip leaders I think.

Gareth Walker has about 120k when I passed by his table.

Richard Sherwood is out.

Pippa Flanders has doubled through Ben Crellin with Ts Th vs Aspades Kh - the 2d Jd 2c 8h 4d no help to Ben. Ben has about 50k left.

Mickey Wernick has doubled through Stu Hilton, all in pre with Stu's Ahrt Qh in bad shape against Mickey's Kh Ks. The Qd 5d Tc 7h 8c hit Stu, but wasn't enough, the 220k pot headed Mickey's way. Stu also has 50k left and is in shoving mode.

Peter Chararararararararararalambos is OUT.

He raised to 20k from the button, only to see John Burberry in the BB 3-bet to 55k. They saw a 5c 6s Kh flop and John bet 55k. Charra thought about it and then moved all in for 182,500 total. John called pretty quickly and opened Ahrt Kc whilst Charra could only show Jh Th for a bluff. The 7c was enough for Charra to shake John's hand and head for the cash desk as the dealer dealt the unimportant 2d river.

Ollie Schaffmann has taken a hit, he doubled up Robert Charlton when they raced Aspades Qh (Ollie) against 9s 9c (Robert). Robert needed the 9h on the flop, as it was quickly followed by Qs and Qd, but the rest of the board ran out 6d 3s to leave a relieved Robert raking in the 350k pot.

Blind on blind, David Swan shoves all in with 10-10. The BB, David Ifthakar wakes up with A-A and snaps. The flop is 8-7-4, but the turn is a cruel 10, and the river is a meaningless 6, sending the pot to Swan and leaving Ifthakar with about 20k.

Gareth Walker has just doubled up with A-A as well, he called all in after Zack Chesses shoved with A-10o. The board was a harmless 3-6-K-8-9 to leave Chesses very very short.

Just found these updates, fantastic work.

Had a great weekend in Nottingham, busted late Day 2, got moved from a soft table to a tough one with both Tom Middy and Rupinder who were the two most active players i'd seen all weekend :(.

Crippling hand was when I picked up QQ, raised and 3-bet by Middy. I 4-bet shove and he snaps with AK. A hit flop. GG.

My first time at DTD and was v impressed.

A chip count on Swanny would be good?

Cheers and keep up the good work.

Steve Holloway bust in 28th when he tangled with Ollie Schaffmann again, this time the classic A-K vs Q-Q race. Queens held this time for Ollie and Steve headed for the cash desk.

Problem. I thought DTD had counted at the last break. They hadn't, they were just chipping up!

Anybody in particular?

Mark Aldridge has just eliminated John Burberry to move into a clear chip lead with 1.2m.

Blind on blind, Mark's A-K won the race against John's Q-Q when the board ran out 4-5-K-10-9 to send John home in 27th.

Nishar Hassam is out in 26th. I got there as he was shaking hands with executioner David Swan, with what appeared to be a preflop race, Nishar's K-Q vs David's 8-8. The 8-8 held up on a 10 high board and Nishar headed for the rail.

440k I think. They've just brought in the 25k chips and I think he has about 300k in that denomination.

Rupinder's gone. :(

Blind on blind, he shoved his 160k stack with 3s 3d, and BB (and big stack) Ollie Schaffmann made the call with Kc 4c.

The flop was a safe 8c 6s 2d, but the turn was a worrying 7h, giving Ollie another 4 outs. He hit one of the 12 outs on the river, the dealer flipping the 4s to send Mr Bedi to the rail in 24th.

James Hoyes has effectively doubled up. He called a 26.5k raise preflop from Andros Spyrou along with Keith Johnson. They all checked a Th Jc Kc flop and the 7c turn led James to push all in for a 90% of the pot bet, around 83k. Both Andros and Keith folded, leaving James to rake the pot in and move up to about 170k.

David Swan is out in 14th.

Robert Charlton started the action when he opened to 80k. Mark Aldridge flatted on the button only to see David Swan push all in for 250k total. Robert quickly folded but Mark tanked and called.

Mark: Kc Tc
David: 7s 7d

The door card was the Td which was a hammer to David, and the rest of the board came out 8d 8c Kh Qh to send David to the rail in 14th, picking up £2,700.

He check-raised all in on a 3s 8c Kc 9s board holding the Ts 8s, and was called by Owen Robinson holding Ac 8d

Johnny missed his 12 outs as the river came the 2d and sent him to the cash desk to pick up £3,350.

Ollie has 1.45m approx.

Robert Charlton is out in 11th. He shoved on a 7h 6s Qc 5d and found Mark Aldridge re-shoving behind him. Mark opened 6c 5c to Robert's Qh 8c. The river was the 6h, giving Mark the full house and sending Robert to the rail, £4,100 richer.

There isn't going to be any hand-for-hand tonight.

Thoughts?

They have to get the FT finished by 8pm tomorrow because of the £300 webcast final table, hence Toby (TD) decided to play to 8.

Dunno if we're gonna have one table of 9...

We are having one table of 9.

Mark Aldridge has been crippled. I joined it with 1.8m in the pot and Graham Giles all in on a flop of Q-7-K.

Mark opened K-Q for top two, only for Graham to open Q-Q for a set.

The turn was a J and the river an A to give Graham the chip lead and put Mark down as one of the shortstacks.

We are back, and as is tradition, we have an elimination.

Raymond Chan found himself all in and dominating Owen Robinson with A-10 vs A-2.

Sadly, the flop fell J-2-5, and the 9 turn and 8 river were no help to Ray, who exits in 10th place for £4,100.

We now have a table of 9, and play will finish when we lose one more.

Nicholas Gavriel has open shoved the last 2 hands preflop and has gone from 347k to 491k. Quite substantial, the 72k blinds and antes.

And we're done for the night.

Mark Aldridge is the unlucky man, he found Q-Q and pushed but Owen Robinson behind him had K-K and called. The board ran out 10-4-4-6-2 to send Mark home, £5,300 richer.

We are back tomorrow at 12pm for the UKIPT Nottingham final table. Please join me as we watch the final 8 fight it out for the £80,000 top prize.

I'll post the chip counts when we receive them.

UKIPT Nottingham Final Table Profiles

Seat 1: Piotr Majewski, 28, Poland, PokerStars Qualifier – 639,000

Piotr is a familiar face at PokerStars events, having blogged EPTs for a number of years. In fact, he nearly missed his flight to San Remo in 2010 while recording his biggest online win of $10,000 on PokerStars.com the previous night. A part-time player, Piotr’s main job is running a poker site owned by his brother, www.pokertexas.pl.  He nearly made it as a professional basketball player and is a qualified basketball referee. This is Piotr’s first Final Table, and he will start it 6th in chips.

Seat 2: Gareth Walker, 27, United Kingdom – 506,000

Gareth, from Newcastle, comes to the Final Table seventh in chips. He started playing online three years ago, but these days he prefers live poker. He usually tries to satellite into the bigger tournaments but he bought in directly to this event. He owns his own company, specialising in high-performance car parts. His favourite type of poker is lo-limit hold ‘em cash games and his biggest cash before this event was $2,700. Away from poker he likes watching movies, particularly comedies, and his favourite film is ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’.

Seat 3: Andrew Couldridge, 44, London – 1,206,000

Andrew is a part-time player who owns a plumbing firm in London. He started playing online 5 years ago and his biggest win to date is $9,000. He is a former football coach of Broadwalk Farm Youth Community Association, a youth club associated with Tottenham Hotspur, of which Andrew is a season ticket holder. He is looking forward to following Spurs around Europe next year, but with his Final Table appearance at this event, he could find himself travelling around Europe to play some EPTs instead.

Seat 4: Owen Robinson, 27, Ireland – 2,414,000

Owen Robinson is UKIPT Nottingham’s Final Table chip leader. He’s from Wexford and is currently on a voluntary three-year career break from his job in local government. He is planning on travelling to Asia and also to study for a Masters to add to his degree in Politics, Philosophy and Sociology. He’s been playing poker for around four years and started by playing in home games with friends. He prefers playing online to live play, and his speciality is cash games. A minimum £7,600 win tomorrow beats his previous biggest cash of $3,500.

Seat 5: Graham Giles, 31, PokerStars Qualifier – 1,807,000

Graham, from Essex, has been playing poker for six years. He describes himself as a semi-pro but generally plays four tables for five to six hours a day. He’s a man of the world and has held many jobs, but considers poker to be what he does best. He would like to go professional, but currently combines playing with a day job as a delivery driver. He plays both live and online, mainly tournaments. He won a satellite into this tournament on PokerStars and in the past he’s also won three seats to the WSOP on PokerStars. He has a partner and a baby, and away from poker he likes horse racing and is an avid fan of the Tractor Boys – Ipswich Town FC.

Seat 6: Oliver Schaffmann, 23, Berlin, Germany – 1,018,000

Originally from the German capital, Oliver Schaffmann has been living in the UK for three years and currently studies accountancy in Aberdeen. However, the Scottish weather has clearly taken its toll and Schaffmann plans to head to Australia – via the World Series in Las Vegas – once his studies are complete. He plays both live and online, relishing the social aspect of the live game, but also plays five to six days a week online, including the Sunday Million on PokerStars. A keen sportsman, Schaffmann was previously in the German national junior cycling team.

Seat 7: Nick Gavriel, 24, Birmingham, United Kingdom – 494,000

Nick Gavriel began playing poker with his family, and is still mainly a recreational player who works full-time in the family business. He is of Greek descent but lives in Birmingham, where his father is a friend of the English poker stalwart Mickey Wernick. His girlfriend, Natalie, who also plays poker, usually supports him, but is currently on holiday in Cyprus and so is missing his best live result to date. Primarily a live player, he also contests the Sunday majors on PokerStars.

Seat 8: Andros Spyrou, 27, London, United Kingdom - 1,407,000

A former road-worker from North West London, Andros Spyrou is now a full-time poker professional. He's played the game for more than 10 years – primarily live – and describes hold 'em and Omaha cash games as his ‘bread and butter’. He has also had some decent online scores, including winning $45,000 for third place in one online tournament. He'll be well-supported in Nottingham, with a contingency of friends arriving to cheer him at the Final Table.

Early action is as expected, cagey. Owen Robinson has extended his chip lead slightly, mainly by winning the blinds and antes uncontested preflop but in one notable hand, he took 300k off Andros Spyrou after Nick Gavriel opened to 82k preflop from UTG+1. Andros flat called next to him, but they were upstaged by Owen, who 3-bet to 300k from the SB. Nick got out of the way pretty quickly but Andros dwelled up before eventually calling.

They saw a Js Kh 9c flop and Owen calmly counted out a stack of light blue chips and nudged them over the line, 500k total. This visibly pained Andros, who counted his stack 2-3 times whilst shaking his head, before eventually folding unhappily.

Blinds are now 20k/40k with a 4k running ante.

Nick Gavriel just moved all in from the cutoff after Ollie Schaffmann raised to 73k from the hijack just before the blinds went up. Ollie tanked, but decided a discretionary fold was in order.

Piotr Majewski has dribbled down to 300k, mainly from blinds and antes but he did lose 100k to Andros. I'm expecting him to move all in pretty soon with 7BB's.

Title: Re: Poker Stars UKIPT at DTD: Day 3 and Final

Nick Gavriel has been the most active at the final table, he's now up to 1m after winning a few uncontested pots and taking a 300k pot off Ollie Schaffmann when he bet 160k on the turn of a 3c Ahrt Jd 7h board.

Piotr Majewski has been all in a couple of times, yet to receive a caller though.

Ollie Schaffmann is our biggest loser. He lost a 500k pot to Andros after Andros flopped top pair and Ollie paid him off. He has about 600k now.

And 8 became 7...

Gareth Walker exits in 8th place.

Ollie Schaffmann raised it up to 93k from UTG+1 only to find Gareth shipping in his 316k stack from the button. After the blinds got out of the way, Ollie snap-called and opened Qh Qd. Gareth sighed and opened 9s 9d, needing 2 outs to stay in the tournament.

The flop was 5h Js 3d, no help for the Newcastle man. The turn brought some "oohhhh" from the gathered crowd but it was the 8c, close but not close enough. Despite loud calls for a 9, the dealer duly burned and turned the biggest blank, the 2c, sending the 700k pot to Ollie and sending Gareth back to Newcastle with his biggest cash, £7,600.

Ollie Schaffmann has just doubled through Owen Robinson.

Owen raised to 95k from the cutoff, only to see Ollie make a suspiciously small 3-bet to 220k. After BB Nick Gavriel had got out of the way, Owen flat called.

The flop was 4c Ac 4s, and Ollie checked. Owen looked torn about whether to make a bet, but decided to check behind. They saw the Ks on the turn, and it was here that Ollie decided to make another small bet, 180k. Owen decided to flat call this as well and the 2 players saw what appeared to be a harmless 9d river.

Harmless it wasn't. Ollie pretty quickly moved all in for 500k. Owen grimaced and thought for about 20 seconds before quietly saying "call". Ollie grinned and opened an unbelievable Ahrt 4h, for a flopped full house! Owen looked a bit shocked as he mucked before calmly counting out the chips and sending them Ollie's way.

Ollie now has 1.9m chips and is back up with the chipleaders. Owen has dropped to about the same.

Piotr Majewski has doubled through Andros Spyrou.

After Ollie Schaffmann opened to 90k from the hijack, Andros flat called from the button only to see Piotr move all in for 366k. Ollie got out of the way and Andros made the call.

Andros: Aspades Tc
Piotr: Ahrt Ac

The flop came Th 6s 6h, which gave Andros a small glimmer of hope, but that was extingushed on the 5d Ks turn and river. Piotr is now up to 800k and Andros is down to about 600k.

Andros Spyrou is up to 1.5m after a big pot with Owen Robinson. Andros raised to 130k for the second straight hand (blinds 25k/50k/5k ante) and Owen elected to flat in position. They saw a Td 5s 4h flop and both cagily checked. Andros led out for 155k on the 9h turn and Owen called rather quickly. The river was the 6h and Andros checked. Owen immediately reached for chips and put out a 260k bet. Andros then tanked and asked for the pot to be spread (680k). He decided to call and opened Ks Kh. Owen tapped the table and mucked.

7 is now 6.

Graham Giles opened to 120k from the cutoff and found short stack Nicholas Gavriel moving all in from the SB. Giles quickly called and opened Ahrt Kh which was dominating Nick's Ad 9d. The flop was 4h 4d 2h, which was no good for Gavriel. The Kc on the turn was then enough to send Nick to the rail as the dealer dealt the worthless 8c river. Nick finishes in 7th place and takes home £9,900.

He's being pretty quiet, happily sat there with headphones on.

Ollie Schaffmann is getting no respect preflop, last time he raised UTG to 125k and got 3 callers in Andrew Couldridge from the BTN, Owen Robinson from the SB and Graham Giles from the BB. The flop was Aspades Qh 7d and Ollie got a lot more respect post-flop, his 255k c-bet was enough to take the pot.

Ollie also took 115k off Piotr when he flatted Piotr's raise preflop, both checked the 3s 3d 7h flop and Ollie overbet the  Jd turn to the tune of 325k. Piotr folded.

Andy Couldridge just won a nice pot from Owen Robinson after check raising Owen's 155k bet on a 7h 3c 3h flop to 440k. Owen folded pretty quickly.

In the £50 bounty, Julian Thew has the "honour" of being the first bounty eliminated!

This is the one thing I'm not happy about, but it was unavoidable. The camera we normally use is owned by Tighty I believe, and he was using it in Austria at the APAT tourney. I brought my own digital camera, but despite putting in new batteries, all photos are coming out black.

Blinds are now 30k/60k with a 5k ante.

In what appeared to be a standard blind vs button battle preflop, things kicked off after the 7h 3d 8d flop between Graham Giles and Andros Spyrou. Andros, who had called Graham's raise of 150k preflop, bet out 150k. Graham pretty quickly made it 325k total, only to see Andros count out a 3-bet, to 580k total. Graham tanked for a couple of minutes before giving it up, and Andros takes his stack to about 2m.

Blind on blind, Andros Spyrou completed from the SB and BB Piotr Majewski checked. The flop was an action-inducing Ks Kh Kd and unsurprisingly, both checked. The turn was the 7s and Andros led out for 105k, only to be met by a quick all in from Piotr, 700k total. Andros looked visibly pained as he asked for a count before folding after a dwell-up.

Piotr showed one card, the 2s!

Andrew Couldridge has used aggression well in 2 consecutive hands to add 650k to his stack in blind on blind confontations.

Firstly, he called a 135k raise from Piotr in the SB and on the 7s Ahrt 5s flop, he raised Piotr's c-bet of 140k to 380k confidently. Piotr mucked pretty quickly.

On the very next hand, he limped the SB only to see Owen Robinson make it 140k. He flatted this and checked the 4d 8c Tc flop. Owen c-bet 210 k only to see Andrew check-raise confidently to 500k. Again, Owen folded quickly.

Owen is down to 800k today, whilst Andrew has approx 1.8m.

Piotr Majewski has doubled through Graham Giles.

Piotr open-shoved for 705k from the cutoff and it folded round to Graham in the BB who went deep into the tank. He kept checking his cards, his chips, and staring down Piotr before making a decision and calling. Piotr turned over Qd Jh and Graham's read was correct, he was ahead with his Aspades 6c.

The flop was Td 7c 4d, which left Piotr wth 6 outs to stay in the tournament. One of those duly hit on the turn, the dealer popping out the Qc, meaning Graham had 3 cards to hit on the river to knock Piotr out. Graham did hit the river, but it was the 6h, which wasn't enough and sent the 1.5m pot over to Piotr, knocking Graham down to about 1m.

6 is now 5...

Piotr Makewski raised to 180k from the button, only to see Andrew Couldridge move all in from the SB. After 3-4 minutes in the tank, Piotr folded.

On the very next hand, Piotr again raised to 180k, this time from the cutoff. And again, the SB moved all in, this time Owen Robinson. The only difference was that this time Piotr tank-called.

Piotr showed 5s 5c against Owen's Ac 6c, and we were off to the races.

Flop: Kc Jh 9c - giving Owen 15 outs on the turn and river. The turn duly delivered, the Tc, sending Piotr to the rail in 6th place, taking home £13,200.

Title: Re: Poker Stars UKIPT at DTD: Day 3 and Final
Post by: KarmaDope on May 16, 2010, 05:11:26 PM
Andrew Couldridge has moved in preflop 3 times in the last 2 rounds, taking the not so substantial 145k in blinds and antes. He then moved in for a fourth time, and chip leader Ollie Schaffmann decided he had a good enough hand, and made the call.

Andrew: 9s 9c
Ollie: Ks Js

The flop came Qc 7h 5s and Andrew was still ahead. The turn gave Ollie more outs, the Tc, but the river was the 5h, pairing the board and sending the 2m pot over to Andrew. Ollie now drops back into the pack as Andrew ascends to the chipleaders.

5 is now 4...

Andrew Couldridge had been raising UTG every time for the last 4-5 rounds. Andros Spyrou, in the BB, was getting upset and jokingly commented about a squeeze play. Andrew grinned and raised again UTG, this time to 250k, but he found Graham Giles moving all in from the button! Andrew went into the tank and decided to call.

Andrew: Aspades Qh
Graham: Jd 9d

Graham's squeeze play hadn't worked, but the first card on the flop was the Js, to cheers from his supporters. However, they were soon sighing, as the rest of the flop was Kc Ts and Andrew had flopped the nuts! The turn, however, decided that this hand wasn't over, as it was the Td and Graham needed a Ten or a Jack to take the pot. The river was paint, but not a Jack, it was the Qd which gave Graham a straight as well but Andrew had Broadway to take the pot.

After the chips were counted, Graham had 95,000 left. He duly chucked them in next hand, and blinds Andros and Andrew called. They checked the Jh 4s Ts flop, and Andros bet 80k on the Qc turn. Andrew ruefully grinned and folded. Graham flipped Js 6s for the flush draw as Andros showed 9c 8s for the turned straight. The river was the Kc and Graham Giles was eliminated in 5th place for £16,500.

Next hand, we are down to 3!

Owen Robinson and Andrew Couldridge get 5m chips in preflop! Owen showed Ac Ks and Andrew had 6h 6s.

The flop came 2c 5s 8h, the turn was Qd and the river was 5d to send Owen home in 4th place, taking £21,400 back to Ireland.

What did the players do in that last break?

We're now heads up!

Ollie Schaffmann raised to 180k on the button, and Andros Spyrou decided now was the time and moved all in for 1.4m. Ollie counted the chips out and decided that because he had 600k back if he called and lost, he would make the call!

Ollie: Qc 8s
Andros: Aspades Td

The door card was the Qh, which sent the rail wild, and the dealer peeled back the Qd and Ts, giving Ollie trip queens. The turn was the 6c, leaving Andros drawing dead and Ollie celebrating wildly. The river was the 8d to give Ollie the full house in a little rubdown.

We're having a short break to do chip counts before the heads up.

Post by: KarmaDope on May 16, 2010, 06:21:24 PM
That lasted long, it's all over!

There was a 450k raise preflop and called. I arrived to see the Kc Kh 6s flop and Ollie bet out 600k. Andrew raised to 3.5m, effectively setting Ollie all in. Ollie agreed and we had a showdown!

Ollie: 9s 9h
Andrew: Qs 4s

Andrew had decided to run a massive bluff and had been caught, he had 3 outs to win the title or Ollie would be a massive chip leader. The dealer duly delivered one of those, the Qd on the turn, and Ollie now had to spike a 9 to keep the tournament alive. The river wasn't a 9, to rub it in it was the Qc to give Andrew a full house and the UKIPT Nottingham title!

Ollie took home £50,000 for second place, and Andrew won £74,000 cash, £5,300 EPT London entry and the trophy.

Pictures to follow courtesy of Pokerstars.

right, i am usually not the type to care too much about unskilled strategy input but because i want to help u improve ur game so MAYBE u make it past day one the next time here some bullet points:

1. i noticed a little controversy about my call with  Qc 8s. I think someone picked it up in a reply already but everyone with a little ICM skill and some understanding of short-handed poker will understand that I am not raise folding against the short-stack. That said, the argument that I could just open shove my button with 20BB into the huge Bigstack with the shorty being an absolute nit is not just irrelevant but also plain stupid. The general idea is to built a stack that allows me some room to move heads up and not going into heads up play being outchipped 6:1 and basically being put into any two spots straight away. Worst case scenario for me is if the big stack knocks the shorty out and i am playing push fold in heads up against a complete headsup nit fish whose fav line is limp call his button and check folding boards he cant connect on.

2. I quite enjoyed the little excursion into Day one and how i luckboxed my way through 650 players. Apparently i kept getting lucky in hands that i never had to show down, and since 60:40 going to the flop, in this threat, obv means ur CRUSHED  I guess you all have a point that i happened to be able to get cheap showdowns with marginal but winning hands against weak players incapable of two barrelling a wet board with a scare card. My advice for these people is "grow a pair and start looking me up with more than the second nuts" and you might actually advance past level 8. It is quite an assumption to make that I am getting lucky every time I am involved in a pot with the same people (who have been extensively posting their two cents here). Not knowing my holdings and drawing conclusions about my hand-strength is a losing player characteristic and there is no room for this in an analytic discussion. Acknowledging that you got outplayed, outleveled and 100% owned would show u realise how u have to work on ur game

3. All that being said, I am just guna go log into my account now, check my balance start rubbing fiddies on my tiddies and think back of how I hero called my way through day 1.

Welcome to blonde OJ.

Quick Question.

If you had AK off suited on the final table bubble at 5k10k with 500k and rised it to 27k and the other big stack (450k) re-rised to 80k. Would you make a fold? Or would you make a shove? or even make a flat call?

TIA

Please take a look around the forum. I hope you like what you find, including a great community spirit and an absence of antagonism. Bearing that in mind for your future posts would be helpful!

Welcome to blonde OJ.

Quick Question.

If you had AK off suited on the final table bubble at 5k10k with 500k and rised it to 27k and the other big stack (450k) re-rised to 80k. Would you make a fold? Or would you make a shove? or even make a flat call?

TIA

Hi, two things come to mind. Is the guy a TAG? if yes I would probably prefer 4bet/fold as a line. You will hardly ever have enough equity against his 5 bet shoving range here. Both of you are way to deep to take big flips (that might not even be one) at this stage. I noticed a tendency recently towards very small 4 bets as they seem to have the same effect. So maybe raise to about 150k and fold if you get shoved on.

If the guy is more of a LAG i think it would definitely depend on whether you have position post flop. I think OOP I would 4bet a decent amount here to get some fold equity against his marginal 3 betting range. Still fold to a shove though.

If you are IP post flop then I like flatting a lot. For one you underrep your hand strenght which might give you some value on later streets and you wouldn't want to built too big a pot if you think you can take it away post flop anyway. Factor in how often you think he is going to c-bet any board texture though. If you think he c-bets his entire range you should be prepared to float and not check fold a flop you dont connect on. I doubt he would 2 barrel a bluff here against your stack so he might just shut down on the turn. This would mean you will have to bet the turn quite substantially. Depends if your comfortable doing that.

I would never open fold to a 3bet here though. and i mean NEVER lol. ur hand is still way to strong to give up to any 3bet.

I think you can fully neglect the final table bubble argument here. This is really more a spot where you should consider stack sizes rather than trying to put yourself into a good position for the FT. 50 BB at this stage allows for a lot of play and picking up blinds and antes is way more important than big pre flop all-in races.

just a few thoughts :)

I'll be honest, for the past week or so I've been quite impressed that a resident of Aberdeen (as I am) did so well in placing well in a fairly large tournament on the national stage.
I recognise your face from playing in games you have been at, when playing at G. All I really want to say is, the good will I felt towards you went right out the window with your post. In my eyes class is the beholder and you my friend provided none of that with your post, and made me squirm with embarrisment at the nature of your reply. In being recognised on this forum, you will never have the backing or support of every hand that is played out on such a public stage... imo it's the way you then handle these issues, if you're going to come on here and reply. I'm afraid to say, imo as a starting point, you failed miserably and did nothing more than making yourself look a complete dick (for want of a better word)

0/10 for class I'm afraid, as I don't really believe you were joking with regards to your pop about checking the balance... to me it seemed a spoilt little outburst.

0/10 for class I'm afraid, as I don't really believe you were joking with regards to your pop about checking the balance... to me it seemed a spoilt little outburst.

meh....guess I'm the only one that thought his post was a bit tounge in cheek to be honest? a poker player with an ego isn't exactly a new thing anyway! I thought it was great to see someone from Aberdeen doing good aswell...but he has the advantage of not actually being an Aberdonian

wp Ollie...that final hand...karma ;)

Welcome to blonde OJ.

Quick Question.

If you had AK off suited on the final table bubble at 5k10k with 500k and rised it to 27k and the other big stack (450k) re-rised to 80k. Would you make a fold? Or would you make a shove? or even make a flat call?

TIA

I'm arr in (most likely), it would help knowing payouts/stack sizes left/reads on the player/POSITION

lol@ollie recommending 4bet folding
