A Saturday night Funk for Flushy thread


Nine Remain in Event #9
 

Day 2 of the $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em event is all over but the shouting, and we've managed to beat the odds and set the final table long before the ten-level cutoff. In fact, it took just a smidge more than eight levels to reduce our starting field of 65 to the final nine.

James Dempsey came into the day with a big chip lead, and he held that position nearly wire to wire. He was occasionally overtaken by a player here and there, but each time he slipped, Dempsey promptly won a big pot to once again regain the top position on the chip counts page. He was just narrowly pipped on the last hand of the night, though, and he'll have to settle for returning to the final table in second place by a single orange T5,000 chip.

We had a pretty stacked field when play began this afternoon, but it was not a good session for most of the notables. Eric "Rizen" Lynch was one of the first players out, and he was followed shortly thereafter by Jason Potter, Tom Schneider, Jonathan Little, and Todd Terry. Tom McEvoy lasted a big longer (but not much), and we also lost the likes of Jason Lavallee, Christian Harder, and Scott Montgomery along the way, the latter coming into the day second in chips.

On the flip side of things, JJ Liu had herself a fine day, and she'll be in third place when the cards go into the air tomorrow. Dempsey is just above her, but Steve Chanthabouasy is atop them all after knocking out Julie Farkas to bring the chip bags out and conclude the day.

James Dempsey has a crew of British poker players supporting him on the rail, including Chris Moorman and Nicky Evans. This hasn't been the most action-filled final table yet, so they're keeping themselves entertained by betting on the color of the flops. There haven't been so many of those, either, but when they do come out, the announcer is getting into the spirit of the game. He's been calling out the red/black tally along with the poker action. The case of Milwaukee's Best that just showed up ought to help keep the rail entertained as well.

From the cutoff, James Dempsey raised to 32,000. On the button, Armen Kara made it 92,000 to go, leaving himself 90,000 behind. Mark Babekov, next to act in the small blind, four-bet shoved for a total of 284,000. Dempsey folded, and rather than call all in, Kara folded as well. Babekov was shocked, clearly expecting Kara to call with his last 90,000. Babekov had been standing up while Kara tanked. He shrugged and sat back down to scoop the pot. Babekov is now around 420,000.

Armen Kara raised to 56,000, and big blind Scott Haraden potted. With only 32,000 behind, Kara called. He held {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} and would need to hold against Haraden's {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. The board fell a safe {7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, doubling Kara to 176,000.

We've now had five all ins at the final table, only one of which resulted in an elimination.

James Dempsey's rail has switched sides on him. They've taken to singing, "JJ, JJ, give us a wave. JJ, JJ, give us a wave." Finally, JJ Liu relented and waved at them, quieting them for now.

Scott Haraden raised to 50,000 under the gun, and when it folded to James Dempsey, he bumped it up to 130,000. Haraden called to see the  flop, then moved all in for his last 90,000. Dempsey called with  for top pair. Haraden would need to hit a diamond to stay alive with . The  on the turn was no help, and the  on the river was a brick as well. Haraden was relegated to the rail in fifth place, not bad for his first WSOP cash.

Haraden's elimination pushed Dempsey even further out in front of the rest of the pack. He's got nearly 1.5 million now.

Flushy's got great support out here - with Jonesy, Moomin, Pab, Evans, Praz, Sunny, James Mitchell, Nutter Rutter and lots of others railing him hard. Most of them can barely stand up at this point!

A bunch of them just got thrown off the final table seated area. It was a misunderstanding they tell me - apparently they were waving goodbye to Eames and the TD thought they were giving the latest man to bust out mad rubz.

Managed to get a good shot of James, and the blonde logo is nicely in view.

haha yeah the celebrations when tht river card came were so so so amazing.  the TD was abs flipping his lid at every1 with full cans of milwakees best throwing them everywhere when jumping up and down.  rutter nrly got a life ban from the rio.

highlights for me gotta be JJ give us a wave (gg demps) HEEEEEEEES A DOCTORRR! and us all screaming cheeeerio when eames got kicked out of the final area at the same time some1 had busted! which led to all of us getting chucked (again).

Can't play with antes in first 1500 I had 50k so above av for money @ 200-400 and didn't make 300-600......yesterday 1500 47k pre antes, again didn't make 300-600!

The turn brought the {K-Hearts} and Dempsey fired out. Zhu called and then Farha called as well.

The river completed the board with the {J-Hearts} and Dempsey fired out again. Zhu tanked for some time and then tossed in the call. Farha stuck in a raise and sent Dempsey into the tank. Dempsey eventually called and Zhu then mucked his hand.

Farha tabled the {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a backdoor flush and scooped the entire pot to move back to just under three million in chips. Dempsey dropped to 2.165 million and Zhu's on about 1.36 million.

Yueqi Zhu snapped his head around and seemed to take some offense to the comment, being Chinese himself. A few moments later the man continued with another comment.

We're surprised more chips didn't go in the pot between James Dempsey and Sam Farha. Each player flopped a set on a {10-Diamonds} {j-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} flop. Dempsey bet and Farha called. It was the same action on the {7-Spades} turn. When the {q-Diamonds} filled a bunch of draws on the river, both players cecked. Dempsey showed down {j-Clubs} {j-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts} for a set of jacks. Farha flashed a set of sixes and mucked.
