Title: WSOP Updates
Post by: tikay on July 05, 2010, 06:05:58 PM
I am hoping to be able to follow - mainly just Chip-Counts via Twitter - up to 10 players in the WSOP  Day 1a today, ditto on 1b, 1c, & 1d. (In addition to the SP players).

As of now, I don't have today's Player List to hand.

If you can suggest any blondes, or Brits, that you'd like me to follow today, nominate them on this thread, please.

Obv, I'll follow Flushy, Thewy, G2L, on their respective Day 1's.

Any more for any more?

Details are here - http://bit.ly/bsC3Ge

Thewy is playing today, too, so I'll tweetorise him, as well.

Thewy updates would be greatly appreciated, given I have massive 1% of him.

Moorman, Middy, Jones, Pab, James Williams, Dr Trumper.

Daily "player Lists" will not be available from the WSOP peeps until 8pm each day, so I'll need to know what day they are playing, also Table # & Seat.

All I know so far is Thewy - Amazon, Orange, Table 334, Seat 6.

Not sure what days they're playing but updates on James Keys, Rupert, Michael Piper, and any of the Hit Squaders would be appreciated.  Would add Channing too but he tweets his progress himself.

Could you get a chip count for Daniel Negreanu every 20 minutes, follow him on the breaks, shout to ask him what his chips are and what he had in every hand he played and when he eventually gets annoyed, tell him you are his personal Pokernews chip counter trying to make a reality of his ridiculous expectations around WSOP live updates.

Thewy is finding the going tough, he looks to have about 12k. "It's my low point, I can bounce back from here" says he.

And he's a fine judge. He described my manbag as "borderline". That's good, I think.

Will do my best!

I MAY have to report them elsewhere, & link to them from here. I'm in a bit of trouble with Harrah's/WSOP, as my Media Pass ONLY allows me to report on my "accredited site", which in my case is SP. I'll do it via a bit-link from here, but don't worry, it'll be spam-free, but that's the only way I can do it from here on in.

Updates by the DTD crew CAN & WILL be on blonde though, as their Media Acreditation is via blonde, due to some "technical" issues. ;)

The DTD Update Crew are in fact sat next to me in the Media centre, so between us, Updates on blondes & DTD-ers should be covered somehow, somewhere.

Just reading yesterday's photo blog, gotta ask if this is a level:

"Interesting thought for you. It's a fundamental principle of Tournament Poker (Online AND Live) that Table & Seat Draws are totally random. And yet all the "names" always end up on the ESPN TV feature Table, day after day. I've raised awareness of this "anomoly" many times, but nobody seems bothered by it. My view on it is quite clear. It's wrong wrong wrong. We MUST (or should) protect the integrity of the game. And yet this happens in ALL big Televised Live Tournaments."

I gather you're not really into levelling so I'll explain: the feature table is not in the draw, they randomly distribute everyone and then move in the most interesting looking lineup to the feature table. That's what that biro-written note above the table saying "blue 372" (or something like that) is about.

Lol, God bless you!

I think you missed my point completely.

"Hand-picking" the Feature Table, as they do, is WRONG. IMHO, of course. ;)

If it happened Online, or down your local Cardroom, there'd be blue murder if Tables were "hand-picked". And quite right too - table Draws are supposed to be random. The Feature Tables in Events such as WSOP are NOT randomly drawn.

PS - delighted to see one so eminent as you perusing my Vegas efforts. And that's NOT a level!

I think TK is implying that when they have to move a blind to fill a seat they don't necessarily move the next available person.

They will sometimes wait until somebody worthy of TV is in a suitable position to be moved and then leap in quickly with the seat card.

Also when they break a table there is a good chance that isn't random either. It can't be to difficult to make sure that the seat cards go to exactly who the TD wants.

It always seems a bit of a coincidence when out of a field of 6000 runners it just happens to be a "face" who walks in to the TV table.

Title: Re: WSOP Updates
Post by: AndrewT on July 08, 2010, 12:02:01 PM
The seat draw is random, but it has definitely been noted by updaters before that when the organisers are looking for a new player for a feature table they will be standing near a table with a big name on it, but trying not to look like they're standing near it, then suddenly swoop in when that player becomes the big blind.

Title: Re: WSOP Updates
Post by: DMorgan on July 08, 2010, 10:01:05 PM
The TV table isn't hand picked at all.

They do the seat draw completely randomly, then look at the draw. The most interesting table (ie the one with the most name pros) then moves from a normal outside table to the one with the cameras and lights around it. If the name pros bust then they can move the remaining players back to an outside table and move another set of players onto the TV table, but the draw is still completely random.

At the start of every days play ESPN will choose the most pro-stacked table so it figures that you're always going to see pros on the TV table. It doesn't mean that the draw is rigged at all. If that was really the case that the draw was rigged do you think that any pro would sign a TV waiver form so that they can play on stacked tables in every event?

Not how it works at the WSOP at all.

The field is so large they dont move people from the BB till way deep, its done by tables breaking and when they do that they high card for dealer button then deal out seat cards randomly.

Interviews today with Jesse May & Mike Sexton.

Jesse was his usual bubbly self, & warm & friendly, though we go back a bit, I used to write a column for Cardplayer Europe when he was the Editor. (I left after Mr Slotboom took over & turned it into the Slotboom Fanzine).

Mike Sexton, who I'd never spoken to before, was the consummate PR spokesperson for Party & WPT, but I found him, on a personal level, cold. His brother gave me a "Mike Sexton, Poker Hall of Fame" DVD. Must watch that. Fair play to Lush the Gush though, who's brokered a whole bunch of interviews for us.

The May & Sexton interviews are here.....

Can you give more details on why you felt this way TK ? Mike Sexton has always come across as Mr Poker and Mr Popular on TV / Poker Media, so it suprises me for him to be described as cold, is that just a media face we see or did you catch him at  bad time ?

I wish. It was pure brain-fade. For some reason, I had Alan Cunnigham in my mind. Same number of letters in his surname, see?

Good spot, sigh, just when I thought I'd got it through.

True but there are a fair few that share Steve's qualities and do a pretty good job for their sponsors.  Stuart Rutter and Thewy spring to mind in the UK along with the likes of Allen Cunningham, Jen Harman, Juanda etc etc in the States.  You can be a good role model and shed good light on the industry without dressing up as Julius Ceasar and trying to be a side circus.

I think day 3 is still in Las Vegas, so it's 8 hours difference between here and there.

I think the blonde poker clock is wrong.  I was working it out from that.

Huh it says I posted at 5.44 pm, but then it is 6.44pm when I look back at the main menu.  I will leave this thread alone for now

I am guessing it will burst midway through day 4, it used to be day 3.  They aren't playing enough levels in a day.  It was 6 last time I played and is now 4/4.5

It is currently 11.45am in Vegas, Day THREE play starts at Noon Vegas, & they will play FOUR levels today, & cease play at 10.15pm LOCAl, that's 06.15 UK.

The Money Bubble is forecast for late evening on Day Four.

A Rule which has been introduced, but is being inconsistently applied, is causing considerable angst.

"You may not discuss your hand during play of the hand" seems to be the sum of it.

So, "do you have a flush?", "will you show if I fold?", & "are you at it", for example, are all being outlawed - by some Dealers.

I got a one-orbit penalty at Caesars last night for saying, mid-hand, "I've hit that (flop)"......! To be fair (?), it was not my first offence, but it was a fun Table, & we were just messing around at 25-50.

A very odd Rule. Odd or not, it needs to be consistently applied, or done away with. A halfway house makes no sense.

Interviews with mr Neil Channing & J P Kelly, both recorded in the last 12 hours, in Vegas. Mr Channing explains his views on how the internet hotpots adjust to the WSOP. Or not. ......Whatever Neil says, & no matter how bad the interviewer, he's always worth listening to.

I fancy that was ESPN's idea. TV peeps don't like having their meal breaks compromised. And ESPN's money (not a cent of which reaches the players) underpins the whole Harrah's business model for the WSOP.
