Title: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 01:51:02 AM
Dave tells me that an incredible 698 runners sat down for this - mind blowing!

5 hours in & over half the field have gone already. Dave is average stack right now.

But he aint got a stack now, dammit. He exited arouind 200th. The attrition rate in this seems very high, 500 players gone in 4 hours.

Do you by any chance know if Norwegian top class player Anders Berg a.k.a. "Donald" is still in?

Prices up in the Blue Square specials section for last 22 players.

Still waiting on confirmed list of blondites for the group betting - got a gutshotters market up already......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 05:27:13 PM

Tell you what, the Europeans have half a chance in this! 22 players left, chip leader is John Lukas with 142k, & average stack is about 50k, give or take a few k....

But how about this......

Pascal "The Pharmacist" Perrault 107k

Barny Boatman 55k

Carlos Mortensen 45k

Jeff Duvall 44k.

Pascal is French, but we will assume he's normal if he can bring this baby home.

Barny - what can we say? Go Barny!

Carlos - he lists his residence as Las Vegas these days, but he's still a European.

And what about Jeff Duvall - what a popular winner HE would be!

I guess it kinda depends on the first pot they play - the pots in these things - Omaha Hi-Lo - have a habit of getting awfully big real quickly, so if they get that one through, anything could happen.

Good luck to them all!

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 05:34:32 PM

Blue Square have these prices.......

Pascal (107k) 13/2

Barny (55k) 9/1

Carlos (46k) 12/1

Jeff (45k) 20/1.

The value HAS to be Jeff, hard to say why he's quoted as a rag.

Mind you, I said I'd lay Motivator all day long.......

Every market has a couple of tasty prices and STILL we get little interest.  Has all the gamble gone out of poker these days....?   :)

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 11:15:45 PM

Everything is cool,so far. 6 players have gone, leaving 16, on 2 tables, & our 4 guys are all still present & correct.

Come on boys!

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 11:38:20 PM

Strike that - 15 left now, & STILL all 4 Europeans in play.

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 11:56:43 PM

14 left now, & everything still cool.

I have a good feeling about this comp......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 07, 2005, 11:58:49 PM

Doh! I bokked 'em. Barny Boatman just busted out in 14th spot. He gets just over $8,500 for his splendid effort. Hard luck Barny, but well played.

13 left, including Carlos Mortensen, Pascal Perrault & good old Jeff Duval.

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 12:20:08 AM

And now I've bokked Carlos too - he exits in 13th for the same $8,500 that Barny got.

He had 8-4-4-2 against Matey Boy's K-J-J-9. A flop of A-Q-6 had Carlos in good shape for the low, & needing to get lucky to get the high, but turn & river of Q-9 were no good for either.

So it's all down to Pascal & Jeff Duval now. I'm saying nothing.......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 12:29:56 AM

Falling like flies!

10 left now, one away from the Final Table, & we still have Pascal & Jeff there. So we are guaranteed at least one finalist.

Fingers crossed......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: Milkybarkid on June 08, 2005, 12:46:22 AM
Come on Jeff

Id love to see him win it. Hes one of... if not the toughest opponent i have faced in a cash game!

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 12:53:00 AM
And more than that, he's an absolute top bloke.

Well, with 10 left, average chips is some 105k. Pascal has had an accident or two - always likely with the style of his game - & is down to 21k. But Jeff, who was 20/1 overnight, is right back in it with 123k, and is in fact 4th chip.

Way to go Jeff!

Yeh Jeff is a very nice guy. He gave me some very good advice a while ago....

Damn it i wish i had logged in earlier and seen those prices. I would have had a dabble at those odds

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 01:00:11 AM

I actually singled him out on this very thread earlier today as the value bet at 20/1 - pay more attention Ben! Where are you, by the way - you still down Mexico way?

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: Milkybarkid on June 08, 2005, 01:05:24 AM
Ah yes i saw your tip... did you have a bet?

Yes i am currently in a Cuernavaca. Went hiking early up a mountain so its a relaxing evening for me tonight. The food is unbelievably good and soooooooo cheap.

When do you get to Vegas?

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 01:12:32 AM
Nah, don't bet these days Ben. That would leave less dead money for you guys to share, eh?

Cuernavaca? They got a beach there? And a KFC?

I arrive in Vegas July 3rd, complete with the Poker 425 boys. And we plan to do Live Updates on blonde, & maybe a few other thing too. So though I am unlikely to play the biggie, unless I win a satellite, I shall have plenty to do, following the progress of the Brits.

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: Milkybarkid on June 08, 2005, 01:24:06 AM
Nah hitting the beach in a few days and this is the first place that i have not spotted a KFC.

I guess you will be rushed of your feet following the Brits. There must be at least 200 of us including internet players.

You may win a seat on Crypto this Sunday....  :)

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha

I'm sure gonna try! I had a go last Sunday - the thing was full of blondeites, but we all missed out. Hope springs eternal & all that......

This may be a silly question, but wtf is Crypto?

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 01:32:53 AM

Final! Sadly, Pascal was the bustee, & he nets $10,600 for 10th place. There are no half measures with Triple P, he's a *** or bust merchsnt. And today it was ****. Great effort though & he's in tremendous form right now, with strong results in Vienna & Barcelona pre-Vegas.

So, come on Mr Duval!

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 01:40:19 AM

The Final has begun, & Minh Nguyen just busted out in 9th.

Jeff Duval still sitting comfy.......

The Finalists are on a short break now. Blinds are about to go $3k-$5.

Pots get mighty big, mighty quick at those blinds in HLO......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 02:08:24 AM

With the average stack at some 130k, Jeff has dropped down to be one of the low stacks with 89k. But it only takes one decent pot at this game......

Glad someone is watching!

Jeff just quartered his oppo in a $50k pot, so he's moved up to mid positon now, with about average chips.

John Lukas is Billy Low Stack now, & Jeff is level with the intriguingly named Boris Shats.

u r a star tikay, iam not, not yet, when do u get here?????????????????????????????????

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 03:20:08 AM

Not tilll July 3rd I am afraid - I wish I was there now, but I guess I can't have eveything.

Meanwhile there are 8 left in the Omaha Hi-Lo, & Jeff Duval is lying handily in 5th spot, just ahead of Mr Shats.

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 04:07:21 AM
They are on dinner break now, still 8 players battling it out.

Jeff Duval has slipped to 7th, but he's OK with $107,000, as the top 7 are covered by less than $90,000.

But poor Boris Shats has become tailed off with $17,000, and with blinds about to go to $3k-$6k (limits $6k-$12k) he's gonna have to get pretty darn lucky pretty darn quick.

Back to business. Poor Boris Shats, as expected, has perished, leaving 7 runners.

Jeff still there......

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 05:39:52 AM

With 7 left, the chip leader has $190k, Billy Low Stack has $110k, & Jeff Duval is midddling with $140k. A spread of just $80k from first to last - this is anyone's comp!

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 5, Hi-Lo Omaha
Post by: tikay on June 08, 2005, 05:53:40 AM

Jeff still has 140k, the chip leader has 240k, & the two tail end charlies both have 100k.

Still anyone's game.......

Family pot. Flop is J-10-5 with two clubs. Jeff bets $15,000, others call. Turn is a 2d. Checked to John, who bets $30,000. Jeff moves all in for $20,000. Pat calls as well. The river is the 10d. Pat checks, John bets $30,000, and Pat folds. Jeff has Q-5 but John shows K-5 and wins with tens and fives, king kicker. Jeff is eliminated in 3rd place.

3rd Jeff Duvall $77,170

And a HUGE well done to Jeff Duval, what a tremendous effort, what fun he gave us all, & what a popular winner he would have been.

In the EPT at Deauville, a 3 or 4 day jobbie, I got lucky early & found myself with a reasonable stack. Then I lost most of them when my AA got cracked, & it was back to the usual tikay clinging on & grinding. But it was a lovely structure & a nice slow clock, so no need to panic.

But I found myself on a horror table. To my immediate right Rory Liffey, then Jeff Duval, then Elky then Brandon Schaeffer. To my left, Henning Gradstad, then Bob Coombes. I mean, there were just NO "spots" with which I could make a move, these lads don't let you breath.

I never had enough chips to RR, & I was card dead for 2 whole days. But when play finished at the end of Day two Jeff - who I barely knew at the time - came up to me & told me how well he thought I had played. I said "truth is Jeff, you guys are too good for me, I ain't got the game to hang with this company". He said "don't be silly. I know you aint got the aggrerssive game some of us have, but you've showed great patience & discipline, & I think you can go all the way". I don't think he was blowing smoke up my arse, I think he meant it. Buoyed up by this, I made the Semi-Final, & got a double up which put me right in contention. Sadly & stupidly, I made a horrendous play in RR-ing Bob Coombes, who refused to pass his KK, & that was that. But I've been a Jerff Duval fan since then. What a top bloke.

We shared a table at The Vic a month or two later, him to my right, & David Merhmand to his right. David was his usual irritating self, questioning every decision, asking for rulings every two minutes, bad mouthing the whole table, & generally being a PITA. Anyway, David trots off for 5 minutes, & Jeff spotted that he & David had identical I-Pods, so he swapped them, to the amusement of the whole table. Jeff had been listening to Iron Maiden or somesuch, David some Persian chanting. Back comes David, the whole table giggling for no apparent reason. David puts his I-Pod on, then stares at it, bangs it, his brow became furrowed, & he clearly did not know what day it was. He kept picking up "his" I-Pod & staring at it, eventually taking off his headphones & trotting off again to discuss it with his mate. Jeff swaps the I-Pods back again, David returns, puts it on, & a smile of relief crossed his face - he was not going mad (madder) after all. At which point the entire table collapsed laughing, & David laughed with us. But he never knew why.

Good Luck for the rest of the WSOP Jeff, you have a big fan here.
