Neil Channing

Chip leader and would certainly be a popular winner. Blackbelt Poker Supremo and a Poker CV including Irish Open Champion 2008, 18 WSOP Cashes. Has two previous GUKPT Final tables, 2nd in London this year and 5th in Blackpool in 2007.

George White

Semi regular Luton player, alongside his wife Melissa, from North London. George, a software expert, was an inventor of Chip and Pin technology which he sold to the Banks. Life took on a somewhat more relaxed hue from that point! When not dabbling in various ventures you can find him (Username I-Dumb) playing $5-10 and $10-20 on Stars daily, where the other players rib him for being a nit, and tell him to play a hand sometimes.

Keith Johnson

From Nottingham, a regular DTD Torunament and £2-5 cash game player. Looks like a mild mannered accountant with a Ford Mondeo. Plays like a crazy lagtard. Qualified for this event through DTD and is the sole surviving DTD Road Trip member in the competition

Ricky Mackintosh

Had chips from the off. Ricky is a regular player at G Thanet, and occasional elsewhere in the South East. Won the £300 event at the GUKPT Summer Series at Thanet in May.

Joe Grech

Tournament veteran with an impressive pedigree in GUKPTs. Runner up to Sunny Chattha at Walsall in 2009 and finals at Brighton 2008 and Bolton 2007. Third at UKIPT Coventry this year. It's fashionable, perhaps, to deride Joe's play somewhat but he's no fool. Too many results over too long for him not to be quite a player. Old school yes, but very nice Old School.

Leslie Fenton

I don't know Leslie, and I've drawn a blank on Tournament databases, google and well everywhere. Can anyone help?


Adebayo Odetoyinbo

Controversial and extremely talkative London based player, a fixture at the Gutshot for many years. His talkative style, frequent antics at the table with speechplay a major part of his game disguise a rather rockish mien.

Jeff Kimber

Quite a week for Jeff. Won the £500, finalled the Omaha and now finalled the Main. Winner at GUKT Walsall two years ago, finallist at GUKPT Thanet last year and GUKPT Bolton this. Runner up in a big WSOP Omaha event too. Simply oneof the best UK Tournament players.

Carlo Citrone

Late Night Poker veteran, back on the scene after a couple of spells at Her Majesty's Pleasure. A famous rock, but a huge string of results 2001-2007 all over the world and he'll be looking to make his mark for the first time in GUKPTs.

Victor Ilyukhin

Immaculately dressed father of, er, Victor Ilyukhin. No database results to speak of, and I don't know his background. This is therefore a particularly useless profile.

Honestly, I don't think I've ever seen so many people funking for one guy to lose.

A heads up battle between Ade and Feldman would be fun.

Ade has always been extremely friendly to me. No personal experience of angle-shoots etc.

However Chomps might not be seen at Luton for a year if he wins. I have Scrabblez to win against him. Self-interest see?

 Just to say thanks very much for all the kind words and well done on the updates. I read them each night after playing, as I always do, and followed on my "day-off" on Friday. Cheers for those that chipped in.

 Obviously it's nice to win any poker tournament, but this one was pretty good fun in places. Nice to play with Jeff Buffenburger, Robin Keston, Luke Patten (who I won a key race off and who I hadn't seen for yonks), Mick McCool (!!...we had a good old natter actually), Rumit (who gave me a lift on Staurday), Paul Parker (who's always fun) and probably lots more people I should menton.

 In the final I liked almost everyone and I particularly thought George and Keith who I hadn't played with much before, (at all in Keith's case), were very polite and pleasant to have at the table. I particularly thought Keith played very well and he's obviously an excellent player. In fact I thought that for the three hours I had him on my left on my very first table.

 It was also good to have old mate Jeff Kimber and sparring partner Joe Grech. Pretty amazing performance from both of them to get to four GUKPT finals. I'm catching up though.

 Enjoyed catching up with Carlo who I've played loads of poker with, particular in Vegas & who's been through a lot recently.

 As for Ade, he did steam me up a fair bit. I have played him many times and know it's part of his "game". I personally find him classless and rude. He doesn't understand though, and thinks it's a reasonable "startegy". He came up to me after, shook my hand, told me that I was the best player and that he'd been honoured to sit and learn.

 I have had a lot of texts since, and I had lots during the final. Praz gave me some encouragement and a ticking off. He told me I wasn't allowed to let Ade get to me. It helped a lot.

 I'm not sure what happened in Bolton. I really can't remember, but I do look back at the journey that the GUKPT has made since that 1st event. A lot of that is down to Jonathan's excellent work. He should be applauded. I had a long chat with Grosvenor's Director of Poker Russell Tamplin today. I gave him some suggestions for the tour. I think he'll listen.

 I hope it thrives. I played the first 15 straight, I didn't cash until the 10th and they've been fun. I'm quite proud to join an impressive list of winners.

The Grosvenor UK Poker Tour found its way back once again to the Luton G Casino for a full week’s worth of busy side events culminating in the £1,000 No Limit Hold’em Main Event, August 12th-15th.  Top honours in this leg went to a familiar face (and voice) on the tournament circuit, Neil ‘Bad Beat’ Channing, who won £64,050 and his first GUKPT Main Event title.

229 players won seats online, found last minute tickets in Luton super-satellites or paid £1,000 the old fashioned way to take their chances at the felt this weekend, and just ten were still there at the start of play on Sunday.  Chip leader Neil Channing had a couple of players hot on his heels stackwise – George White, Keith Johnson and Ricky Mackintosh, but the table divide between the haves and the have-nots became apparent quickly.  With just 10% of Channing’s starting chips, Victor Ilyukhin had to move early and unfortunately for him it was to the rail in 10th place (although with £4,000).

There were two players making their impressive fifth GUKPT final table here, but neither of them made it much further, Jeff Kimber falling 9th and Joe Grech 8th – both of them running into different opponents’ pocket Aces to leave the final more open.  Neil Channing was not to be left with a stagnant stack, however, and busted Les Fenton in 7th after flopping a set of Fives.  Helping to drive the action was the unmistakeable voice of Adebayo Odetoyinbo, alternately jousting with Channing, badgering his opponents and apologising to the audience.  He doubled through Carlo Citrone after Ricky Mackintosh’s exit in 6th place, changing the dynamic at the table after being short-stacked all day, and it was Citrone who had to accept 5th and £12,600 for making it this far.  Another double for Ade courtesy of George White followed, and despite having picked up pocket Aces no fewer than four times during the final, White busted in 4th place, winning £16,000.

Despite holding the solid chip advantage between them (1.5 million or so apiece), Keith Johnson and Neil Channing found it tough to eliminate Odetoyinbo.  He made his way back from just 400k to eventually find himself heads up with the only player remaining who could possibly give his table talk a run for its money.  Keith Johnson lost a crucial race with pocket Sevens to Channing’s AK, which left him first short, and then shortly out.  £28,050 for third place must be some consolation, however.  For a glimpse of the final as it played out, complete with in-action pictures, visit http://blog.grosvenorukpokertour.com/?cat=1398 for the live blog.

Heads up play lasted mere minutes, with the same hand which busted Johnson taking down Odetoyinbo (who won £43,500).   Channing, with more big slicks than BP was the last player standing, and gave him the GUKPT Luton 2010 title, the trophy, the seat in the Champion of Champions event and £64,050.  Channing, the face of Black Belt Poker, eschewed the judo suit in which he’s previously appeared to play, and has proven with just three Main Events left on the calendar that he could beat his record (2nd in the London leg), building a stack early which carried him right through to the end.

Plentiful Side Event Action

Leading up to the Main Event’s dual flights, the side events were peppered liberally with familiar names from the GUKPT circuit, including previous previous GUKPT winner (and Luton Main Event finalist) Jeff Kimber, who won the biggest of the sides, the 94-runner £500 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout, taking down £14,570.  He also placed in the £300 Pot Limit Omaha Double Chance event the following day, but the top spot there fell to David Lloyd who beat a field of 65 to claim his £6,250 first prize, with Carol Everton finishing 2nd and James Sullivan 3rd.  Prior to that, the week began with a very popular £150 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout which was won by Kishani Mithani who collected £5,170 along with the opening event’s first place.

The Luton menu featured not one but two sides of £100 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout; the first was won by Brijesh Das who beat a slightly smaller field of 91 compared to the second, which saw Gabriel Chrysanthou come out on top having bested 126 opponents.

There was another £100 event at the start of the week which generated a prizepool of £6,600 despite the field size for this one being smaller than its freezout neighbours.  The only rebuy event in the festival, Sunday’s event saw the top prize of £2,440 go to Avraham Darvish, with Brijesh Das making another final table appearance and coming in as runner up.  Meanwhile Martin Holmes captured the £300 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout, winning just under £10k for his outlasting exactly 100 opponents, and the final event of the week, the £250 NL Bounty tournament was won by Tony Housden for £3,060 (plus whatever he received for his knockouts).

Also featuring in the side event winners’ list from this leg is the present leader in the 2010 race for GUKPT Ranking Points, the dangerous Alli Mallu, who took down the £200 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout bumping his lead to 318 points (ahead of new second place Neil Channing who’s shot up to 245).  The race is far from over, however, with the final Summer Series (London and Manchester) at the end of August next up on the schedule; for more details please visit http://www.grosvenorukpokertour.com/summerseries_2010_5ab.shtml.  Full results and updated ranking information are also available at www.gukpt.com.

Obv we all want to win but am sure no-one playing would begrudge Neil this one, shame it wasnt Keith tho.

I was to late to contribute to this event for the updaters but did manage to buy Mr/s Rockstar a drink on Saturday night whilst playing the £300 and thought they did sterling work!
I would definately contribute next time as i always read the updates especially if not playing, i will look out for one of you at DTD in september for monthly as have already binked my seat (blatant brag obv)

Basically Neil was on a break and taking his Corgie named Alife for a quick walk round the block (Neil takes his dog to all the festivals), Neil was on the phone and not paying attention to what the dog was doing. Ade was just round the corner loading something he had bough from a nearby Halfords into the boot of his car and Alife started barking at him. Ade, who obviously knows Neil and was at his table at the time, kicked Alfie up the arse and told Neil to control his dog.

Obviously that made the rest of the final table pretty tense, Ade later said he did it for metagame purposes but Neil didnt believe him.

Just like to say thanks for all the support i received during the tournament  (bit gutted to be described as a mild mannered accountant who drives a ford mondeo - ive booked in with an image consultant tomorrow!).  I really enjoyed the whole 3 days and thought the structure of the tournament was great. 
I thought Neil was a worthy champion and definitely saw him as my biggest threat during the whole final table.  As for Ade well a lot has already been said about him - all i will say is if he'd won the whole thing i think i would have quit playing poker. 
Nice to play with other players like George and Carlo who remained good humoured throughtout (sorry about the ak v 66 George).

Keith, no need to apologise, these things happen in poker – you too got unlucky with the 7’s!  It was a great pleasure playing with you and meeting Alex, who I understand may even help our daughter out at DTD - thanks in advance for that one.

Thanks too to all the guys at my local Luton Casino - it's where I played my first every tourny, (coming up against a wily old Willie Tann who told me to stop staring at him as I would never get a read!), and still play regularly. As to me, talk about being crazy – given that I do this for “fun”, I put in 5 hours yesterday afternoon at my usual meshuganah RoE game in Borehamwood, went to see the AWFUL flick, Knight & Day with my kids, (GIVE IT A MISS!!!), and then played in a £1/£2 at Stanmore with my Mrs until 3am this morning - I think I need seeing too! Am off this evening for a well earned rest in Spain – no poker for three weeks – heaven!!!

Hey I think Addy is getting bad press! I played that WPT satelitte and rivered the nuts against him with 67, blind on blind, he had the low strt and only flat called me.....his chat may be grating, but he knows how to play the game and it was pretty clear from an early stage that he was gonna win that seat...I went out in 8th 4 paid, ran KK into AA would have taken me 2nd in chips! Also spoke to George Achillea and his friend Marco about Addy they say he has a great record at the International/gutshot and is a specialist at winning satelittes...so altho his conduct vs Chompy was some what questionable...I heard it directly from the dealers mouth...he said it was really bad...Addy is a decent poker player!

Ade was a big fish in a small pond at the Gutshot, along with Sven, Ghandi and George Achillea himself. The standard there was always pretty poor when I was a reg. That would be around five years ago to eight years ago I guess.
He is a very ordinary player imo and highly card dependant. Not saying that because of that disgraceful move he pulled in the GUKPT. Always thought as much. All bluster, no substance. And a cheat.

There are some great players to have come from gutshot, (Nik Persaud, Laurence Houghton etc) but unfortunately Ade isn't one of them. He's VERY dependant on cards and has a very abc style.

I watched Ade for much of the first two days(not through choice but the verbals draw you in to see if the mouth can back up the ability)and then on day 3 and the final i was aware of 90% of his hands as i was an official updater.

He was, as has been stated, reliant on cards when in a showdown situation.He wasn't doing anything special and ran like god to get where he did.

Regardless of any of it,he is a crass buffoon who on any other day wouldn't have been as fortunate to get away with overstepping the mark as many times as he did.
Not sure if I'm in Chompy`s camp with the out and out cheating view,but its supreme angle shooting at worst and is typical of what Ade is capable of on a regular basis it appears.

I would not be able to stomach this man on any level,should i be unfortunate enough to have him as a regular in my cardroom.

As in life,you never know just who your talking to/sitting next to,and the level of abuse Ade dished out made my eyebrows raise on more than one occasion,in many other situations it was fighting talk,ive seen people come to serious blows over much much less.

I had a responsibility to Blonde that weekend,on any other day Ade was getting it over what he said to my misses,end of.

Ade takes away a shallow "result".I hope he chokes on the money,justice was not served on that final day.But what goes around will surely come around for this total arse IMO.

Neil told me of another disgraceful move he made in the final which I don't think was reported (apologies if it was).

He shoved and announced "Allin for 365 thousand."

Someone asked for a count and he had 450.

The move in Chompy's hand was dubious but in a chain of casinos where "anything goes" chat wise just about short of cheating.

This move from the final is definitely cheating imo.

Why don't Grosvenor just ban him? At least give him a warning that his behaviour is not acceptable and if he tries to pull another stroke they will ban him. He aggrivates and annoys so many players and if he faces a newcomer could easily turn them off the game.

He's banned from the Gutshot, please can Grosvenor and Dtd do them same.

Aha, that explains why the answer was 'no' when I asked him if he still plays at the Gutshot. He used to pretty much live there. Meh, a bit of poker karma in reverse I guess.
This whole 'I'm a nice guy away from the table, it's just when I'm at the table I try to get under people's skin' routine - it amazes me that this would put anyone one tilt. It's a tired old routine, almost laughable.
It might have worked in the Gutshot in 2001 but 99% of those (that don't know him) playing a £1k GUKPT event will just look at him and think 'what a tit'. Not sure whether he genuinely got under Mondeoman's skin or not, but he decided that was going to be his angle for the afternoon.
News of what he got up to last weekend has spread amazingly fast and pretty wide too. Please let him be present at the £300 at The Vic tomorrow night and please let him be drawn on my table. Just please.
