Title: "In the Well" with 8c10c, EPT Winner
Post by: TightEnd on September 03, 2010, 10:23:23 AM
Many thanks to Toby Lewis for agreeing to do this so quickly

So Toby won EPT Vilamoura yesterday for a shade under €500,000

Toby, from the South Coast, posts on blonde as 810ofclubs.

He is 20 years old and it seems odd to say it but this victory has been a while coming, given the prodigous talent he has shown online and live.

Personally, I first met Toby when updating GUKPT Manchester two years ago. This young lad, IPod permanently in, garish cap at a jaunty angle, but completely dominating his table. He reminded me, in table presence and obvious natural skills, of seeing JP Kelly back in his early days. Clearly destined for big things

As recently as updating GUKPT Luton recently I commented that Toby was a certainty to win a biggie soon, and less than a month later here it is, his breakthrough win.

So, for as long as Toby wants to answer...your questions on Poker, his life and the universe to Toby please

Enjoy.

Biggest animal you could kill with your bare hands.
What footy team you support?
Was it weird playing against Teddy?
Favourite wrestler?
How did you start in poker?
You are only 20, how are you planning on staying grounded after this win, or is it going on ladies, cars and drugs?
Favourite film?
Is it true that if I kill you, I become you?
What do your folks think of the old poker lark?
Could you beat flushy in a fight?

well done btw

Alot of people are talking about the "golden era" atm which features around you, trickett, flushy, jake etc crushing live donkaments. Who do you think the next 5 players will be to break through?

Buying a car? If so what kind?

Nandos order?

Thought process about the 95 hand on LNP (sick heat btw for anyone who hasn't watched it yet) is it because you always have a good hand when you callon the turn and because you're getting such good odds on the river he can never be bluffing? Did you think he could of been value shoving a worse hand? i.e AK?

Any Teddy Sheringham stories?

Goi ng to lose it allin London this month?

oh and grats.

Biggest animal you could kill with your bare hands. Anything nice to eat :)
What footy team you support? Southampton forever!
Was it weird playing against Teddy? Not at all I don't get nervous with famous people around so we just chatted some and talked some golf, Teddy is a very solid player thou great result for him.
Favourite wrestler? Been so long can't remember there names now, the Big Show?!?
How did you start in poker? Playing 5£ home game sit and goes with mates from school/college, then when 18 went down the casino quite alot.
You are only 20, how are you planning on staying grounded after this win, or is it going on ladies, cars and drugs? Mm I think i've got my head strewed on enough to realise I cant blow this money so i'll prob invested some house/flat etc and get a nice car then win more poker tourneys hopefully.
Favourite film? Can't think of one in particular but all of Big Den's films I f love.
Is it true that if I kill you, I become you? Yes
What do your folks think of the old poker lark? Dad loves it watches me play online all the time when i'm at home and Mum hated it at 1st now I guess she can't :)
Could you beat flushy in a fight? Flushy is terrible at everything he does in general so yes I would win through default.

well done btw - tytytyyyty

Alot of people are talking about the "golden era" atm which features around you, trickett, flushy, jake etc crushing live donkaments. Who do you think the next 5 players will be to break through? Mm well I think it's only a matter of time for people like Tom Macdonald, Ash Mason, Middy (Online not live i'm guessing lol), Craig McCorkell and lastly Mad Turk or Chinese Frankie cant decide which thou!

Buying a car? If so what kind? Looking at tonnes of stuff, Aston Martin DB9 is a infront atm.

Nandos order? 1/2 chicken, Mash and corn on the cob. On a weight loss prop you see oops.

Thought process about the 95 hand on LNP (sick heat btw for anyone who hasn't watched it yet) is it because you always have a good hand when you callon the turn and because you're getting such good odds on the river he can never be bluffing? Did you think he could of been value shoving a worse hand? i.e AK? Tbh this hand I was really dissapointed about, when the board comes K9xss and it check to the btn who stabs 500 at 800 hindsight I just fold here but if I call when the turn comes an offsuit 5 it doesnt make sence for me to bet really, when I call the flop I dont think he has anything otherwise I would of folded, so to lead the turn means I do think he had something and this was the key mistake I made in this hand, I also think when he raises the turn so small I should fold happily because I believe with xxss etc he would b making it 5k and calling the shove, so his turn range is all value and I dont beat any of his value hands, when he shoved the river so quick I just knew he had a big hand and thought it was 22 cause I didnt think he would limp the btn with 99. Wp me this hand hopefully I dont butcher too many more for you all to see :)

Any Teddy Sheringham stories? No stories really Sam couldnt stop singing Teddy, Teddy, Teddy across the table the whole day lol. Other than that he just a really nice guy and a true professional like playing the golf event the morning of the final table lol

Goi ng to lose it allin London this month? F hope not, going to be playing pretty much the same sche as I planned for London but now I cant go bust so that good news :)

oh and grats.

I think everything just kept building up and I havent looked bk really, every month or two something would happen and work out really well, moving to London is April was a really big step I think and just playing tonnes of big comps to get used to the style thats played.

Will you be changing your name from 810ofclubs to 5five ? Obv not idiot :)
Now you have a few quid, can i keep your hair products you left at my house ? No im coming round to get them for sure.
Will you be going to Vegas this year  as soon as you hit the big 21 ? Not sure yet, talk of LA for a couple of months is floating around but I really enjoyed Austrailia this year and would like to go back there too.
Did it help your game to improve since we played heads up at Brighton ? That was the toughest HU match i've ever played.
Will you now be too busy to ever play online poker again ? No way need to keep playing online to make money and keep the game sharp for big live buyins like EPT's.
Do EPT Champs eat vegetables ? Thats not your question now is it, hello Nicky.

Well done champ . SO So Happy for you !!

How unlucky was Sam Trickett? Sam ran really well with starting hands and good spots on the final, but couldn't win a showdown for toffee felt really bad for him, he played a great tourney and is a great player as every1 already knows.

What is your schedule for this month? Same as before really, EPO, WSOPE and EPT London and the Party World Open with Poker Million in October which I satted into already.

Will you cry when NigDawg ships a major? I hope he ships something soon cause he deserves a big score and he will degen the money away properly lol

I take it that Late night poker heat was your first made for TV appearance?...Did you feel any different being in front of the cameras and was your game unaffected by this?
Any tips especially, as I have my first TV appearance on Monday in heat 1 of the World Open?
Sam Trickett is in my heat too....will he be on tilt from running so ridiculously bad at your FT??!

Many Congrats Toby, awesome result.
I take it that Late night poker heat was your first made for TV appearance?...Did you feel any different being in front of the cameras and was your game unaffected by this? I think I just played like there werent any cameras there and was super focused on trying to play well, also I knew all the guys that were in my heat so that helped alot too, I'm deffo not one for advice on this subject thou as I've only played one, maybe ill cya in the final :) gl
Any tips especially, as I have my first TV appearance on Monday in heat 1 of the World Open?
Sam Trickett is in my heat too....will he be on tilt from running so ridiculously bad at your FT??! No, Sam is a professional so that wont be the case, it will another comp he wants to win so be careful :)

Why did  8c Tc become your favourite hand? Nothing in particular made it my favourite, but when we talked about favourite hands that was what I always said, then I used it as my stars id so now I always use it as my favourite hand.

Is there a limit to how much action it can stand up to pre before being reluctantly laid down? Ofc sick getting into battles!

congrats on the title m8 and enjoy yrself

what means most to you at the moment the title or the prize money? The money ofc its 400k! Closely followed by the title because between coming 1st and 2nd is not only the prize money difference its could and hopefully will mean alot more.

Has your stlye of play been modelled on anyone if so who? Not really maybe alot of people mixed together, when I first started playing all I wanted to do was watch people play, ask questions then go home and try it out. Now we have a great bunch of guys together that travel all over the place and we all talk about hands and spots all the time, all of this helps a tonne imo.

Tobes thx for doing this.

I'm amazed at how you've come so far so quickly.

Have you built your bankroll through strict management or taking shots? Both in part really, never sit in a game or buy into to comp wher by I feel i'm under pressure. But I think people dont take enough shots, I mean I played an EPT off a 50k roll last year thats not great! But I was happy to lose that money otherwise I wouldnt of invested it, more people should try it, look at Jake 1st EPT and he ships it for 700k I mean surely every1 wants a shot at that?

how did u first get into poker? Just started playing sit and goes with my friends at home after school/college/golf then when I turned 18 I started going down the casino for the 30£f or 5r£ and then got into online cash to build a roll with the help of a close friend now who crushed online cash for a long time.

Is a sponsorship deal on the horizon?

Is this incred summerz you've had the perfect way to answer all those vegas rubs?

do you look forward to doing your bollox at the series next year?

Its pretty mental actually, after not being able to say a word for 5mins, I had photos done with tonnes of ppl, then 15million interviews, then more photos, then a pint of portugal beer, then sorted money out, then boys tried to put me in the water fountain outside whilst I had my wallet and phone in my pocket so I ran off and went to my room, sat on the sofa and didnt move or say again for like 10mins just sat there smiling it was a weird feeling and obv the greatest!

How at such a  young age do you keep grounded?

I think I appreciate how much money it actually is and how hard it is for people with normal jobs to make that sort of money but obv I do spend alot and have fun aswell just all in proportion I hope. I think its really important to have normal friends and not just poker friends to keep you away from thinking and talking poker 24/7.

What was your 1st major tournament sucess online and for how much?

Not sure what major result is but last year I won a 50r on stars for like 14-15k and then got a massive buzz for playing comps and getting better. Then early this year I won the sunday 100r on stars for 88k which is my biggest online result to date.

Will you still keep to the same level buy in's u were playing online, and if so, how do you continue doing that, when you have won such a big amount?

Yh still happy playing 100f online, obv guna play less online now cause of others things but still guna grind weds ands sundays with a chance to bink a decent score.

Do you play online cash at all? Not anymore really, sometimes flick a spin into a PLO game used to do well in them but mtt more exciting now.

Lastly, can you teach me please please pretty please :-) ? :)

Huge congratulations and hope there is many more to come gl
