Title: DTD Grand Prix
Post by: TightEnd on October 29, 2010, 09:23:48 AM
A live update with a difference. The difference being there won't be one for Friday and Saturday.

So, what I'd like is that if blondes playing can update their progress on this thread...whether from IPhones or the DTD terminals or when they get home at the end of the day's play....

Progress reports please!

I'll put up exits and end of day chip counts and then do a Day 2 live update when I can get there...

Now then, the Grand Prix is a record-breaking UK live competition

450 runners over each of two days, 900 total.

£50 entry, £40,000 guaranteed and a sell-out over a wek in advance

Here is what Rob Yong had to say this week

"Well, against most people's predictions, including mine, the Grand Prix sold out at 900 players with 8 days to go.

Since then, we have been inundated with requests to increase the field by adding an extra Day 1 on Thursday. However, the 45 minute clock and 10,000 chip structure means that we wouldn't finish at a suitable time for the filming, or for our gaming licence.

Looking at the emails to our support team and in the club, this event was oversubscribed by as least 400 – 500 players. This obviously means a field of 1300 – 1500 people is possible for us in the future. For now, I want to see how we cope with the 900 guests over Friday - Sunday, before we look at doing this type of event again. The Norwegian Poker Championships, and the Pokerstars UKIPT were big events, but the Grand Prix will be the most demanding so far due the sheer amount of entries in the tournament. We estimate Saturday could see us having over 800 people in the building; it's a good job that we have been able to get the marquee at short notice!

Events such as the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo are important. We need to keep the interest levels up, especially after now being open for 3 years. When we hold a bigger buy-in event, we always try and give our regular day to day customers the chance to qualify. £1090 for the Monte Carlo Event is a lot of money in this current economic climate, so we are guaranteeing 50 Monte Carlo seats in online satellites, worth over £54,000. These will commence 5 weeks before the event itself, so people can plan to take time off work if they qualify. Day 1 is on a Friday.

There has been a big focus on our weekend events over the last few weeks, adopting the Grand Prix model, giving players big prize pools for lower buy-ins. We do know that the weekday evening tournaments also need to be freshened up, so from Wednesday 10th November, a new evening schedule will commence. Details will follow shortly.

Thanks again to everyone that has supported the Grand Prix. We are all very proud to be on course (provided everyone turns up) to break the UK record on our first attempt. We set the guarantee higher than the number of players we thought we would get, so it's been a great surprise to sell out at our 900 cap so quickly. It's given us all at Dusk Till Dawn a boost!

Cheers, Rob"

Tv table.. Yuck! If the camera adds 10lbs I will look about 510.

How do you know which one the tv table is?

Deduction.

All the tables start with the numbers 1-6 indicating the row, and the second number is how many tables along.  So table 25 is second row, 5 across.  On the seat draw there's a Table 0.  We're guessing it's the final/TV table.

How many levels are they going to play today and are they going to play for the exact same length of time tomorrow (even though it starts 3 hours earlier)?

I managed to dwindle to 4k making a ridiculous amount of 2nd best hands.

Have battled my way back to a 13.5k stack, 1st break now.

Am sitting to the left of redsimon who I think has starting stack-ish.

Personally I'm not going to play it any differently to how I play the £300 deepstack (same structure).  Throwing all your chips in with 99 pre-flop is a ridiculous play with this structure, irrespective of how much you bought in for!  If you double up in the first level it is completely irrelevant in a tournament with this structure.

Title: Re: DTD Grand Prix
Post by: pleno1 on October 29, 2010, 06:49:33 PM
Same, I'd make the same plays as I would next week in the £300, but it is understandable for those who dont.

Out.

13k at break down to 10k due to inability to connect with the board.

Then lost half my remaining stack to Fran with AQ vs TT on Q863 board. She biiiinked the river.

Got kinda slowrolled on my bust hand. I 4-bet QQ for all but 250 of my chips. 1 caller. I shoved for 250 chips on the Axx board saying I'm not a fan of that ace. He says I should "stop milking it" which presumably means he doesn't like the flop either so think I'm good. But after I flip my hand he turns over AK. So that was kinda dirty, but meh, nm.

GL to redsimon (~9k I think) and Fran (~9k as well) who were on my table, and other blondes playing obv.

geordieneil was up to 16k after 2 levels

FYP,He lost the geordie bit when he went to play a poker comp that clashes with us playing the mackems  ;)

GLGL all blondes.

10000000000000% geordie thru and thru btw ;) if i had a blood nose, one nostril would be black blood the other white blood

had great start got up to 16.5k with no real hands, best pre flop hand wash 66 ( i did flop a set with it tho) and 33 was only other pair.  had AK once (2nd hand of the tourney and picked up the blinds whoop de do)   busted AA with  Ahrt  5h from the BB with 4 callers to mr AA's 175 pre flop raise.....with a 5 on the flop and 2 hearts.i wasn't folding in a hurry to his half pot bets andi rivered the 9 of hearts.

from there it was went downhill :(
was completely card dead for the next 4 levels, if J2os was the nuts i would have 200k :(    ...went down to 6500 and cry folded AJ on the BB when only solid player on the table raised 4x....easy fold but 3 hours and 4 levels without a hand i nearly got a boner until Mr Rock's pre flop raise.... 2hands later i get  Ahrt Th with 3 mid/late limpers (blinds 150/300/25) looked a great spot to squeeze...BB with just over 5k snaps with aq ooooohh sh**....left me with dust, about 775... the next hand i looked at one card  Ac and threw them in, hit my ace but fella rivered 2 pr and bye bye me.

thanks technolog for letting me play for you, it's just a shame i didn't really get any spots to improve on the good start.

a very big congrats to DTD for this remarkable achievment, and as always very well organised on the day, good luck to any other blondes still in and those who are playing tomorrow.

   right where's the bar......geordieneil

what are the cash games like?

they are similar to tournement poker, but use cash to buy chips, instead of a buy in for a certain ammount of chips.

:)  as always loose as hell and full of madmen. i found that out when i shoved with a draw and guy called my sizeable shove with kjos(no draws) on a 578 rainbow flop

Still in, about 42k...... usually don't like tourneys, but enjoyed today.
Nice, friendly atmosphere, and DTD is always a pleasure to be in, when it's full and buzzing.

About 9 o'clock was trying to give my chips away, so I could go on the beer, but somehow got a bit of a stack, and it was getting too late to go out.
Got lucky with KJ vs KQ  AIPF, and then like a true nit, grinded till the end.

Up to Blackpool in the morning for the SPT, which should be good fun /  chilled day, with a friendly group of people, and Tikay.
Then back to DTD for 1pm Sunday.

Good luck to everyone playing day 1b, and reports on Matt / Stu / Mitch's drinking progress would be appreciated.

Just got back. Went out 176th after having all my luck early -  Level 2 I limped with 2s 3s from BB. Aspades 4s flop, turn comes  5s, river comes another 5, oppo has A5. Unlucky mate :). Downhill from there. Lots of fun though. Finally having lost a couple of big ones got taken out by a combination of girgy and another blonde whose name escapes me but who had a monster stack and was hitting everything. A7 on A7 flop, I go for the trap check, allowing a free card which comes 9. Girgles and anon BOTH have A9. GG me. Hit a 50p/£1 cash table, had a storming 3 hours, £100 spun up to £430. Which was nice :).

Good atmosphere, a few loud people on the sauce, but that was pretty useful on the cash table :).

Toughish looking table 66 for me today, although I do have position on Thewy and young Trumper.

The good thing is that it will most likely be one of the first to break.

Hectic weekend for you. gl on Sunday

Played yesterday, thought the tourney was a terrific idea and a lot of fun. Huge respect to DTD for organising this.

Sadly I ran badly so didn't survive the day. Put me down for the next one though.

How can I fail now I'm feeling the NunnyLove!

Of the many ways that this could have come to pass, I really wasn't expecting anything as odd as this:

Blinds 50/100. After the best part of 2 levels, I've played my customary 2 or 3 hands.

EP (similar number of hands played as me) limps from a 8.5K stack. Folds to me in CO and I have KK. I raise to 350 leaving just over 9K.

Folds back to EP who makes it 2.4K

I'm thinking it looks like AK. Perhaps a medium pair 77 to 10s. Possibly AA.

I think about pushing but having lost to AA with KK aipf last week at the Luton APAT and wanting to get maximum value with my big hands, I opt just to call.

The flop is K 10 5 rainbow. Happy days.

EP checks. I check. D'oh!

The turn brings the 6. EP checks again. I decide to bet about 2.5K. EP calls. Now I'm thinking he's hit his set of 10s. Could still be AK or AA but less likely perhaps.

The river is the safe-ish looking 9. There's no flush and only 2 hands are beating me ::)  EP checks again and I shove my remaining chips in. EP calls (did I imagine the hint of sheepishness in his demeanour?) and turns over the beautifully played 78os. The table is silent bar for the sound of jaws hitting the floor.

I hang on for a bit with my 800 chips but finally go when my Q8 fails to improve against K4.

Who needs my 50p?

I witnessed this filth first hand! Oppo had been folding without looking at his cards for 2 levels. He had only played one hand previous to this when he decided his kj was big enough to call an utg raise and obv lost against ak. Worst of all was listening to this chaps hand analysis.. It sure was an education! Same chap then butchered a hand when he only called a river bet when he had boated up. Saying that I butchered a 40k stack into dust with a super dooper tez play. I also did a 'Leatherman', played like a twat all day!

I would just like to say a massive WP to all at DTD, they ran/run this tourny without breaking sweat. I hope Rob and all the team are smiling.

Depending on how many chips paddy has left, he is my 2nd tip as he has been on form recently. My 3rd selection of the night is for wagner to win Xfacter outright. thank you.

i assume pleno's friend is James Howard from newcastle. Extremely sick player who just needs that little bit of a bankroll break and will be flying. He is my tip to win this tourney from now on. Depending on how many chips paddy has left, he is my 2nd tip as he has been on form recently. My 3rd selection of the night is for wagner to win Xfacter outright. thank you.

is there a closet crush ur not telling us about here buzz?  :D

Play starts for Day 2 of the DTD Grand Prix at 1pm, I believe.

One of the things that struck me on Friday was the sheer number of new members this event attracted to DTD. Queues of people registering to enter for the first time, and then asking where the toilets were and which table was 11 etc etc.

Today also, groups of players mingling, for example with hoodies saying "Ipswich Pub Poker" and "Gary's poker club", people you wouldn't normally see at DTD on a festival weekend.

Indicative of the success of this format and competition, and I suggest the overall healthiness of the low buy-in deepstacked market as we see from other providers (Sky Poker, APAT etc....)

and, of course, all 900 of them now have DTD Online accounts

I suggest the Grand Prix concept is a resounding success.

The downside...I've not a clue on 90% of the field I am about to update on!!

Did they do the breakfast buffet yesterday? Nobody has mentioned it. Playing cash late Friday a couple of lads got one of the valets to bring a plate over from the marquee. One guy got 5 sausages (+ eggs, toast, beans, tomatoes, etc), but no bacon. "Bacon is bad for you" says the valet :).

Mitch, a table spy reports to me, opening every hand from late postion blind, and almost defying people to play back at him

In this field, and now quite close to the money, I would imagine he's a pretty fearsome opponent to have to counter.

Contrasting fortunes for the blondes

udders open shoved A-Q on the button, Foggy no doubt a touch suspicious of his range called him with K-10 and spoike to knock him out

Girgy is having fun. He blinded down to 42,700 and shoved over an opening raise with 8-8. A big stacked big blind re-shoved with K-K, the opener passed

Girgy spiked an 8 first card out (expeletive of Mr Kings deleted, you might have heard it at home though) and Girgy has 90,000

Red pushed for 61,000 with A-Q

Snapped off from a 75,000 stack with A-J

OK a bit of advance warning. I'm out in the marquee and can't actually get close to a lot of th table such is the TV paraphenalia around them. I suspect this will especially apply to the final, which is roped off as if we're expecting Tom Cruise to turn up for a movie premiere.

However, will soldier on. We're down to 115 so approaching the bubble. I think this will be a slow bubble, and I think Mitch will be making hay

I am off to find out about David Neville, any more requests please fire them in on this thread

David Neville had 95,000

In context with 108 left and blinds 1500-3000 average was 85,000

Then the button open shoved for 30,000, David called with A-Q in the small blind, right of dealer

bubble has burst. No idea who or how as the crowd that descended on the table when the cry of all in and call went up resembled the charge of a rather rotund light brigade

Anyway, some quite extraordinary stuff as the bubble played out

Mr Graham Kingham had just taken down a 5 way pot with A-K on a J-5-3-Q-10 which he had bet the turn and led the river on, having smooth called pre, fourth into the pot

Next hand he open raises, everyone folds and he slams down K-K face up and shouts, voice reverberating across the room, "COME ON!!!". I might stick around his table for when he actually gets called

So everyone is now guaranteed £75, and that is quite an achievement in itself in the top 90 of a 900 runner live comp

As one player said to me as I passed by "this is great, you get a lot of chips for no money at all". Which is undoubtedly true, and there is quite an atmosphere in here today

GiMac out 66th. A-10- shove with 9xbb called by 8-8 and he lost the race

John Sadler, who I recognise as a familiar face around the Midlands circuit for years, was in the big blind facing a raise fro0m Lucinda Howells UTG (the lookalike lady pictured earlier)

She raised to 15,000 with 60,00 back. Sadler set her in, she called. Lucinda 10-10, Sadler 7-7, board Q-7-A-J-A. He has over 300,000 now

GolfPro out 64th, shoved 5-5 utg with 8xbb and ran into Q-Q

Dwayne Quinn won a 200,000 race with 10-10 v A-Q to elimkinate a player and go over 400,000

Jakally has recovered back to 200,000

Mitch on the other hand has taken some hits down to 200,000

Girgy 114,000, table breaks and he says "sigh, not the feature table for me again".

Karl Snow 500,000+ knocked out a player AQ v A3, rivering Quad Queens rather unnecessarily

Discovered this chap, described on the lists as Timothy Ian M Steer. Sitting on Jakally's table with a monster stack. 400,000+

Nigel Webster out 27th, pushed 9-9 called by K-Q Queen on the flop

Big hand on table Jakally/Girgy, but involving neither

Daniel Kilsby opened

Marcus Rawlings shoved on the button

Tim Steer gives it an enormous think in the big blind and re-shoves

Kilsby thinks and thinks and passes eventually (AK he says)

Rawlings AK

Steer JJ

3-4-K-5-J

Steer goes over the 1m chip mark, Rawlings out and we are down to 26

It's Tighty funk for Girgy time. Why?

Well, amongst other reasons (such as, he doesn't get out much) he's playing a seat won in the blonde/DTD League in October by Silverslick

Silverslick and mr bp have shares in him. I think I am promised a meal out of it too.

So go Girgy!

(and Mitch, Jakally, Mr Neville, Mr Foster, Mr Quinn and the rest......)

Girgy news

Robert Blount playing 500,000 approx made it 60,000 on the button

Girgy shoves 300,000 from the big blind

Mama G cranes over the railing, as expectant as if Girgy himself was about to land on our planet for the first time, those 27 years ago in Featherstone

Blount, faced with calling 240,000 more over half his remaining stack gives it a think. Not just any old think but a right old think. I am sure he changes his mind about five times.

Eventually he calls, almost defiantly banging his chips down on the felt with purpose

He flips  Ahrt Th

Girgy flips  Ad 5h

The board brings Girgy no help and he is out in 21st

Well played sir

Girgy

"I thought it was the right move against a button raise. I have a good image, thought I would get him to lay it down. I think he makes a massive call. A bad call to be honest"

Say this in an Eddie Waring voice at home for added authenticity

Jakally out 19th

After Dwayne Quinn was knocked out 16th, Leethefish Williamson raised in the cut off and Tim Steer called in the big blind

flop 2-4-5. Steer led, Williamson shoved and reluctantly in the end Steer called all in

Steer 8-8

Williamson 10-10

Tens hold, Steer is out 15th and Williamson is up to 800,000 with 14 left

Mark Tomlin makes it 80,000 utg at 15-30k...folded to Gary Judson in the small blind who 3-bets, 205,000 more

Tomlin, who has been mega aggro all day, in a lot of pots, shoves.

Judson now finds himself pot stuck. Its only 150,000 more to him, and he makes a sigh call with 6-6

Tomlin flips A-Q

3-J-4-Q. The rail roars

River 6. Half the rail roars, half the rail wails.

Tomlin out 13th

Judson a chip leader now, rivering a massive 1,000,000+ pot

David Neville is out 11th

I arrive to see that David in the small blind has pushed the turn of a

 3c Kh Js 6c board

Gary Judson calls with  Ks Th

David flips the draw tastic  4c 5c..which seems quite uncharacteristic of him to be in the pot with a low suited conn, presumably having called a raise pre-flop

river  Td, and he misses to depart

I hope they wont do a massive chop

Must be a chance of that. Many of these players are not regular £50 players, from listening to them and friends. A big big deal to hit this final table for some of these guys

surely with the tv deal it should be played to a finish?
i have asked about this twice but got no response

After about a level of pretty nitty final table bubble play, eventually the bubble burst

Short-stack Darren Foster with 200k and blinds just up to 20-40k shoved the small blind unopened

Daniel Kilsby in the big blind found a hand to call him

Darren 9-3

Daniel 6-6

flop 9-5-2 and Kilsby curses

Turn 6

River 9 and Darren Foster is out in 10th

Blind on blind, Dan SB.
Missed the early action so not sure if raised pre.

Flop 742 rainbow I think, dan bets - called.
Turn an 8, Dan checks, other guy bets 30k - Dan dwell calls.
River Ace, dan checks, other guy goes all in for 100k +, covers Dan but not by much, Dan tanks for over 5 miins, gets clock called (not by the other guy in the hand, by someone else at the table), and calls showing 76o, other guy mucks.

Amazing job Rich. Definately buying you a drink next week lol. Different class of updates week in week out.

Vwp to John, he a good player and an all around nice guy to boot. Definately worthy of the win. I remember I 2 outered him once on the bubble of a £300 satty. He just sat there, said "I wish you all the luck in the world in the 300, your a lovely guy and deserve the seat as much as anyone". Thankfully he also made it with no chips left lol.

Roll on next weekend!!

Dealers had a busy weekend and a hard one at that, hope you guys remembered them at the end of the night?
No-one seems to realise how fortunate you are to have dealers for every game played at dtd and the standard to match it,
Hope you all had a great time at dtd last weekend as i certainly did, good atmosphere and well organised all round.
Well done on your win aswell John!!

I know it's only photos but when advertised as it were and I'm sure many recreational players would like the photos. Just seems poor IMO
