Title: The Official Queens Park Rangers FC Thread
Post by: The Camel on January 09, 2011, 07:50:52 PM
If we are starting threads about every little team, might as well have one about the mighty QPR and their inevitable rise to the Premiership.

Is Adel Taarabt the second coming of Maradona?

Who should QPR sign to cover for the unfortunate injury to Jamie Mackie?

If Bernie Ecclestone doesn't splash some cash will Warnock walk?

Is there a better anagram in the world than Colin Wanker?

What are the plans for Loftus Rd if you get promoted?

What are the plans for Loftus Rd if you get promoted?

When Flavio and his cohorts first came in, there was lots of talk of finding a new venue somewhere to the west of London.

Loftus Road is clearly too small to sustain a Premiership club, but all the talk of a new stadium has gone quiet over the last 18 months, even though the BBC have recently put a big proportion of their White City property (about a mile from Loftus Road) up for sale which would have been perfect for a new stadium.

Basically noone knows what Ecclestone, Flavio and Mittal's plans are for the club.

They saved us from the possibility of going to the wall, for which everyone will be grateful for, but they certainly aren't the sgar daddies everyone expected them to be.

Possibly they are hoping to get promotion as cheaply as possible and then flog the club.

When I was out in Vegas playing cash one night I got talking to the guy next to me. He was a big US soccer fan and so took a big interest in English football, especially the US players.

Never did I expect to meet an American who remembers this as much as I do.

Stan Bowles was a tiny bit before my time. The first season I started going was his last at QPR, but he was always a genius.

I loved Simon Stainrod. He was class, taking the piss out of the opposition, undervalued skill wise and really unlucky not a have had a England career.

There were others too, Tony Currie, Roy Wegerle, Sir Les, Paul Parker, Clive Wilson and Ray Wilkins. For a small club, we have been blessed with alot of class players. Variance I guess.

Trev will always be dreadlocked in my mind. Because he had flowing locks when he did this:

The best goal I'll ever see.

Never seen away fans give a goal a standing ovation before or since.

The bittersweet aspect to our season is that two people to thank for it are Bernie Ecclestone and Neil Warnock, two men who, if I'd seen them on fire, I would quickly have downed a bottle of vodka so I could piss pure alcohol on them.

Nope, definitely saw him play.

He captained Scotland didn't he?

I think Notts County had his best days, but he was certainly very good for us too.

Very much this.

Hated Warnock for many years, his behaviour in that Sheff Utd/WBA game where 3 of his players wer red carded and he tried to get another of his players sent off to get the game abandoned was despicable.#

His handling of Taarabt has been fantastic and he has QPR playing football he has never had any of his other teams playing.

Yes he did captain Scotland for a short while, he was a natural leader. He played out of his skin for County and was one of the best Sirrel finds, of which there were many. He joined QPR around the same time as David Needham, if I recall correctly. We had one come ove the other way but am damned if I can remember who it was.

We are extremely lucky to be where we are.

Mackie started the season in incredibly hot form and scored 8 in 9 or something ridic.

We have eeked out points which we don't deserve several times.

Oh, and we have the best player in the division by a country mile. He has probably won us 12points single handed.

It would be a criminal waste of such a great start if the board do not invest a couple of million in a proven striker to replace Mackie (Becchio, Cox or Austin plz).

Ha was just a little dig. You ruined our record of scoring every away game at Loftus road, I think it was 32 consecutive away league games at the time (a post war record) and we have scored in every one since.

The Championship this season is an extremely even division this year and being able to eek out points is going to be massive come May.

The sky is the limit.

Not sure if moving to Liverpool at his age was right for him, he could easily get lost, whereas if he stayed at Loftus Road he would have been fast tracked to the first team.

A really good quote on saturday night from the presenter of the football league about Taaraat ''If QPR go up it will be because of Taarabt and if OPR dont go up it will be because of Taarabt'' i lol'd. I have watched a few QPR games and obviously he is an unbelievable talent but its plain to see the other players get really pissed off when he should be playing them in and instead he goes for the wonder strike from 40 yards or tries to beat another player.

On his day he is unplayable and prob the best player in the championship but does he do it often enough Camel and do the fans get frustrated with him aswell?

Shaun Derry seems to be doing an important job in midfield too how highly do rate him?

Got into a convo with a coach about him not long ago and he said without a doubt the brightest prospect he's seen in over 20 years. Said the lads like Suso and Pacheco won't be as good if he works hard enough he could go all the way.

I don't know wtf is happening with this transfer window.

Why we always wait until the last minute to sign anyone I cannot figure out.

We need a striker (Mackie and Agyemang out for season) and a full back (the brilliant Walker has gone to Villa).

We have spent fortunes on moderate players since the 3 stooges took over and now with promotion within our grasp Flavio and Bernie don't want to spend.

Warnock is sounding increasingly unhappy, the assumption being promises that were made when he took over are not being kept.

FML if we throw it away from here.

Buy, borrow, beg or steal.

We need a goalscorer desperately.

Tomorrow it will either be Hulse and Smith or 4-5-1.

Whatever, I don't see us scoring unless Adel provides a fist full of magic.

I don't think O'Hara goes on loan to the championship. Think it's more Shittu and McCarthy. McCarthy played a game behind closed doors for them and scored.

Woodgate and O'Hara for the season seems to be the shout of the day - any thoughts?

I've always liked Woodgate and if even 90% fit would be by far the best cb in the Championship.

I haven't heard O'Hara linked, but he is obv a very good player, but we are very well stocked in mf, so I would be doubtful he is coming. Who knows though.

The rumours I've heard is for Routledge, Miller and Shittu.

Routledge was fantastic when he first came to us, but left pretty quickly and didn't have much good to say about QPR when he left. A strange one, esp as he wa slinked with lolerpool just a couple of days ago.

Miller is just the sort of striker we need but has been injury ravaged for 2+ seasons. If he's fit, I'll be happy.

Shittu was awesome when he was here before, but his career has been patchy since he left. I don't think he'll be forst choice if he comes back.

The record of players coming back to LR after leaving has been tez.

Allen, Gallen, Cook, Quashie, Langley all were excellent before they left, and with the possible exception of Gallen were a shadow of their former selves when they came back.

I hope Shittu and Routledge buck this trend.

Signed Wayne Routledge and Pascal Chimbonda til the end of the season.

Routledge was fantastic when he was with us in 2009, but QPR have a terrible record of resigning players who were a shadow of their former selves. (Quashie, Cook, Langley to name but 3).

Chimbonda is obviously good, but has temprement problems.

If they both work ouit, could/should be excellent signings.

He was fantastic during his first spell with the club, but his second spell has been ravaged by injuries.

His act of waiving his share of transfer fee to let the club have the money was one of the best gestures I've ever heard from a footballer.

Just been reminded it's been 15 years since Queens Park Rangers were last in the Premiership.

I was a young man when Eric fckin Cantona sent us down inm the 12th minute of injury time.

Thoughts on 9/4 QPR Keith?

I think it's big, especially if Long (who I rate really highly) doesn't play.

Routledge is an excellent signing (assuming his head is right) and he looked good v Coventry. And I think Miller will improve quickly as he gets matches under his belt.

We are looking very strong again at the back and our midfield is definitely the best in the division.

Our wide men v their full backs looks a total mismatch.

QPR on the Asian handicaps looks the way forward.

That's the result which will put us in the Premiership - away against a team in good form and down to ten men we still get the win.

Our players just look noticeably better than those of the teams we play - there is a definite gap in class between Taraabt, Routledge and Faurlin with opposition players.

Glad I broke my habit of a lifetime and backed us tonight.

I thought Mills should have got a red - as Peter Beagrie pointed out he was the effective last man as the other defender was getting nowhere near the ball. Ephraim was unlucky - we were breaking at pace and once the ball got away from him he was running so quickly that if he makes contact with the Reading player it's always going to look really bad.

I actually thought the ref got both decisions right.

Ephraim was definitely a red, Kebe could easily have had his ankle broken there. In real time I thought Mills was a yellow, with slow motion replays etc it could be argued it should have red, but happy it wasn't at the time.

Yeah - I'm not arguing with Ephraim's red. He was unlucky that once the ball gets away from him, he's going to commit a red-card tackle without really meaning to or with any malice.

Congrats on a great victory.  You really do seem to be a class apart in this division.  Assuming you do go up it will be interesting to see if the owners/board will start spending real money to make you acheive there as they clearly have it but haven't really splashed it so far.

Fantastic results for Rangers today.

Nearly there now.

As long we don't bottle it, we'll be in the Premiership next season.

And if Bernie and Flavio decide to eff off all the better!

excellent results for you today too.

I honestly don't think we are that much better than the rest of the League.

But a defence that has kept 20 clean sheets from 35 games cannot be argued with.

With Taraabt and Derry in the team I doubt he'll get many votes for Player of the Year but Paddy Kenny has been immense all season. Countless point earning saves and I can only remember one blunder that conceded a goal.

Best keeper we've had since Seaman.

Yeah its a close league, if Leeds had half a defense we would be up there :( Paddy Kenny is prem quality, but I heard he is a little crazy character wise and hard to control.

Looking forward to my trip to Loftus Road on Saturday.

Worst away record in the division against runaway leaders - we dont have a cat in hells chance lol

Game is a sell out already.

Very well.

He's been just the spark we need, teams had realised if you clamped down on Tarbs you stopped us playing. You can't ignore Routledge, quick skilful, composed in front of goal. He's been excellent.

There was a rumour on the messageboard about 2 weeks ago that hehopes to return to the Toon next season. He's apparently very happy there and hopes his future lies there. No idea if true or not. Hope he joins us permanently/

Loftus Road has a fantastic atmosphere when it's full for a big game.

And this is undoubtedly a big game for both clubs.

I'd wish you good luck, but I wouldn't mean it!

Should be zero - precedent set with Tevez.

However, could be possible complication with the fact that apparantly the FA told us at the start of the season to sort this shit out, but we didn't.

Its a new rule. Due mainly to do with Tevez and Mascherano at West Ham, Warnock was on the flip side of that ironically.

Title: Re: The Official Queens Park Rangers FC Thread
Post by: The Camel on March 13, 2011, 09:38:10 AM
I doubt very much if the FA will levy a points deduction.

Say we get a 10pt deduction and it costs us promotion. The club will appeal to the courts and ultimately Europe and if we win the FA will be liable to pay us about £100 million in lost revenue.

I can't see this happening.

A heavy fine and maybe (hopefully) a ban for Paladini is much more likely.

From the Daily Fail also:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1368623/Craig-Bellamy-set-Manchester-City-return.html

Why wouldn't a 31 year old take a big drop in wages to play football.

He's only got 2 or 3 seasons left of top class football left and yet he seems content to sit out one year in the reserves/not playing.

Surely he's rich enough not to need 90k per week.

Not all of them would play for 'the love of the game', Bogarde springs to mind but I bet there has been many more.

And I bet 3 to 4 million is still a significant chunk of change to him. Not sure most would give up most of that just to play 90 minutes a week in the Championship.

Annoying as it is, this was always going to happen. We only have about 15,000 seats for home fans to sell for each game, and a hardcore support of about 11,000 who would have gone to every game last season.

Supply is very limited, which means they can get away with taking the piss with the prices.

This really hasn't worked out too well for us, has it?

All those billions of pounds that the owners have has led to the marque signings of Messi, Xavi, Jay Bothroyd and Kieron Dyer. Also we weren't able to persuade Wayne Routledge to stay with us (instead preferring to stay in the Championship with Forest) and even Craig Mackail-Smith decided Brighton were a better option.

Fancy going to watch QPR v Bolton on the first day of the season?

That'll be £50 for the cheapest ticket please, sir.

I'm probably being a bit harsh on Bothroyd - he's the sort of player where if he hits form can keep us up (like Odemthingy at West Brom last season). I should hope so for £50,000 a week.

Also, it's not all doom and gloom - we've signed Danny Gabbidon as well!

£64 base for category A I believe

Plenty of chatter of fans boycotting QPR, though I expect most will find a way

For away fans it is bad, as the facilities on that top tier are horrendous. Cramped, bad access and exits

£50+ is a scandal

I'm not an expert on this Premier League thing but I assume that this Bolton are one of the best teams in it and we were unlucky to get the probable title winners on the first day of the season.

Hopefully we'll do a bit better against the other teams who we will be competing against to avoid relegation such as Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

He's a thug and should now have played his last game in English football

but in a 'car crash' sort of way he does provide entertainment...

I lol'd at his response to Shearer referencing the stamp on Lennon, and then he came up with this one for Lineker
"do u wanna go there publicly "Mr Squeaky Clean" ? Think u should have a look in that vast closet of skeltons before u respond... I know a lot about THAT side to u the people don't and won't bat an eye lid at exposing u. So mind ur manners Squeaky... now back under your stone you odious little toad..."

We won't miss him as he slips into obscurity, but he's provided lots of talking points over the last few years and I predict that at some stage in the not too distant future he'll be in Australia with Ant n Dec, or on some obscure satellite channel attempting to build a future out of just being Joey Barton the former enfant terrible of football

You could go really well I think.

Green
Fabio
Onuoha
Ferdinand/Nelson
Traore/Young
Diakite

Hoilett
Taarabt
Andy Johnson
Cisse

pretty heaven
zamora and faurlin too

Pretty confident we'll score lots of goals.

Some really decent attacking options.

Not so confident at the back, i loved Traore going forward, but he's very suspect defensively. Wasn't impressed with Onuoha last season at fb, maybe he'll move him inside with Fabio joining, or maybe this guy from Marseille will be cb. Ferdinand was ok, but not outstanding. The long term rumour was Samba from Russia, which would have been perfect, but that doesn't look like happening.

I'll be disappointed if Faurlin doesn't play alot. Think he's excellent.

Exciting season ahead!

Meh.

By all accounts we played pretty well but Swansea were very efficient converting their chances and we weren't.

Not convinced by Onuoha or Fabio though. And how much of an upgrade is Green on Kenny?

Have it in my mind you will now be a decent bet next week now.

Think 12/5 was a big price, Norwich are pretty terrible, QPRs gamechangers could decide it.

very good for a side who are defending more than they are attacking

vulnerable to any pace, vulnerable to having to pass the ball to a team-mate and cant resist trying 80 yard raking passes that inevitably end up for a throw in

good tackler though and brave as anyone

I read somewhere (maybe untrue, or a misread) that only last week, AVB appointed him as "Club Captain".

If - IF - that is true, it would rather suggest that AVB was unaware of any such likelihood, & that in itself would beg plenty of questions.

Vested Interest Confession. I said a while back that AVB was an outside contendor for first Managerial casualty of the season. So I'm just trying to convince myself. ;)

The simple fact is I no longer care much whether QPR win or lose.

I'd prefer them to win, but it no longer causes me more than a shrug of my shoulders when they lose.

Enjoyed life in the Championship (and League 1 too) anyway.

Could go to any game I pleased without booking weeks in advance.

Watched players who actually gave a damn if the team won or lost.

Honestly had hope that the season would end in success (success is not coming 17th and avoiding relegation purely because there were 3 teams more inept than QPR)

As long I was certain QPR would still be around if they did get relegated and not be in Portsmouth sized financial hole, I'm not that bothered if they stay up or go down.

Gallen, Ainsworth, Shittu, Bircham >>>>>>>> Zamora, Cisse, Ferdinand (Anton, not Les obv), Cesar

Given the history between Redknapp and Taarabt (when he sold him, Harry referred to him as a "fruitcake") how do you see that one being resolved?

start afresh?

my understanding is that Taarabt is at the heart of the few positives about QPR so far this season

what can be done in January to change the shape of the squad?

Sadly indeed.

If you had asked me 4 years ago which 2 managers would you hope would never manage QPR my answer would have been - Neil Warnock and Harry Redknapp.

Sigh.

I would imagine Harry's approach will be to tell him to get with the programme or piss off as any good manager should. Taarabt almost went last year. Single players aren't very important in the grand scheme of things. Having said that Chelsea have employed Rafa solely to stop Nando flouncing about the place so who knows.

Yes, but Warnock did a great job there.  Surely you can't complain about that.

I went through similar a few years ago when we appointed Dave Bassett after the ill-fated John Hendrie experiment.  Hated the appointment, loved the trip to the 2000 Play-Off Final that came from it!

Think you're right about 6/7 winning it.

Will will make enough chances for him to score 6 or 7 is thee big question.

10/1 probably value, don't think he will make it though.

Hope he does!

Not sure if this is true, but just read at a QPR he'll be allowed to leave for £4 if QPR get relegated.

More transfer % and signing on fees for Remy and agent + higher wages at Loftus Road

Ridiculous if true. He's hardly going to be motivated to play hard.

Quite a bit more as well.

Spurs have a wage cap put in place by the chairman, Daniel Levy. It has stopped us from getting some players for sure, but we're doing alright and the club is in an excellent position financially.

There was a rumour that Darren Bent was on 95k a week and that this was the straw that broke the camel's back, so when he went, Levy said "no more". How true that is, who knows?

In today's Times, it is reported that Remy turned down Newcastle because "Newcastle is in the North, where it is cold", & "Harry has been trying to sign me for 3 years". It also states that Newcastle offered him £40k per week, & QPR offered £80k per week, but "money had nothing to do with it".

I don't know why they say money has nothing to do with it. If somebody offered me double wages to do the same job it would be a big consideration. Suggesting the rate of pay isn't a factor when negotiating a contract sounds kinda foolish to me. If I was a footballer moving abroad wages would be the first thing on my agenda. Remy doesn't owe any loyalty to either club so wages and location are exactly the reasons he chose QPR. Once you've secured a good contract tho there's nothing stopping a player giving 100% for their new club. I don't think cutting a good deal auto makes you a disloyal wanker.

The interview through the window 'arry style was comedy too though, proclaiming his love for West Brom while he's parked up at Loftus Road!

Modern football eh?

Samba on £100k a week

The clown from WBA trying to force through a transfer.

Total joke.

Stuff like this is the reason I'm a ludite who refuses to buy Sky and help fund it.

I don't know who is paying Samba 100k per week but Sky money certainly isn't funding it.

Modern football is funded by a combination of rich owners and massively increased revenue from TV deals.

Samba and Odemwingie are personifications of what all that breeds.

Got to be a big gamble to give him a two and a half year contract, on the assumption he'll stay fit

He's a talented player but the fans lost patience with him not working hard enough on the pitch and being sloppy with his passing.

Not convinced he offers a lot to QPR but he should nevertheless be in the 16 every week if fit.

I don't think he'll ever be a huge success at a top 4 club, because teams defend so deep against them it neutralises his lightening pace which is his main asset.

Think he'll score goals where ever he goes, but he's better off at a club which isn't challenging for the title.

Title: Re: The Official Queens Park Rangers FC Thread

exactly what I thought too, he is really quick and is better when he has 1 second to think rather than 3. Has too much time on the ball at Chelsea and loses confidence when he makes mistakes.

Way better suited to a team challenging for 5-8th I think.

And they are sold as "diabolical view" seats. So it shouldn't have been any surprise he couldn't see much.

£38 is a bit toppy though.

If suitably marketed, "restricted view" or whatever, I suppose it's just about OK, but to me, that means there is a column, a stanchion, or whatever in my line of sight, not a full-blown gantry. Having said that, I'm rather fond of gantries.

Here's my favourite gantry. It's called a "superspan", & spans 70 metres. Proper beaut, that.

You must have some midfield for Michael Doughty to be deemed surplus to requirements.

Is Conor about to do what he's done at his previous clubs and suddenly explode after a settling-in period? Hope so, has such a good attitude.

Washington was excellent against Reading.

We played a pressing game and I shudder to think how many miles CW ran. I'm tired just thinking about it.

The midfield is definitely the strong point of this side. Ryan Manning, last years star, couldn't even get in the squad on Saturday

BIG game tonight, second only in West London derbies to Brentford v Fulham.

QPR "entertain" - not sure that's the correct adjective - Fulham, at Loftus Road.

Rather surprisingly (to me), the Bookies make QPR 9/4 in places, & better than 2/1 everywhere, whereas the visitors are as short as 6/5, 13/10 in places.

https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/qpr-v-fulham/winner

I'm not sure those prices make sense to me, & I may be forced to have a small wager on QPR.

I wonder if blonde's only QPR supporter will dare commit himself before the game?

I find it impossible to despise Fulham in the same manner I do Chelsea and Brentford.

Fulham are like that Uncle you only see at family occasions who is always good for a laugh or two, and never offends anyone.

Then you forget about for a couple of years.

What family analogy would you use for, say, Chelsea, &, (I may regret this...) Arsenal?

Big night tonight, Sky TV Cameras & everything, when the itinerants of Loftus Road entertain - rofl @ entertain - their better-bred West London neighbours.

QPR are very much the underdogs, despite being at home.

QPR 15/8

Brentford 11/8

Draw, 5/2.

Hurts me to say, but Brentford are on a completely different level to QPR right now.

Benham is doing with them what Bloom has done at Brighton.

Woods, Vibe, Canos and Watkins all absolutely different class. And when they are sold, the money earned will be spent by replacing them with even better players. You can bet your life on that.

It's the power of numbers and analytics over traditional scouting and buying and selling of players.

I think your are pretty accurate in your assessment of Benham's approach there Keith but yesterday also highlighted the pitfall of the developement churn - you are in a perpetual state of inexperience. No way a more experienced team concedes that second goal. Ultimately that'll be the difference between a good midtable side and a true promotion challenger.

To be fair we have pretty much a complete back four out injured.

Bidwell is the only one who played last night who'd be first choice I think. (Although what is going on in Holloway's head is anyone's guess)
