Paul Romain 47000
Steven Chennells 39200
Paul Garnham 37800
Richard Baker 37700

Play 1b begins at 1pm. Please join us for coverage then

Judging by the numbers descending on the cash games last night the make up of what is expected to be a 150+ field today is expected to be very different. Plenty of Norwegians around, lots of Irishmen, some Germans, a Spaniard or two.

Should be lively. Well as lively as a 50,000 chip 1 hour clock allows!

I'm hoping we'll have a bit more excitement today as there's over a hundred players registered so far and sat down now, with a queue at the desk to buy in.

Also the table right in front of the press desk has a Danish lad on it who was on my cash table last night - if he plays comps like cash he will be either chip leader in an hour or at the bar. Karl M on the table behind so I don't expect much happening there.

Tighty is taking some snaps as we speak, please let me know if there is anyone in particular you want a photo of, or updates on.

Good Luck to all Blondes!!

RED-DOG comes across and reports

"We've played two orbits and had 5 10k+ pots, 2 50k+ pots and two players all in onn a 7-5-x flop with 4-6, both missed and they chopped"

Jim McBride reports that to a raises and a 3 bet he flatted in the small blind with A-8 suited (lol) and they saw a three way flop of 2-8-8

Jim checks and the re-raiser says "I might go all in here"

Jim possibly gives the game away by saying "I will call you", so the re-raiser checks

and he wins the pot uncontested with a bet on the turn

This could be a fun day

We're 38 minutes into the comp and I have heard "Ruling!" called probably 38 times already.

The passing out of turn rule is not a popular one here in Luton, despite it being a normal part of D4 events.

He was first to sign up , must have been disappointed with the turnout , predictions pre tournie was a 400 sell out , infact Nina told me numbers of 280 had bought in or qualified  last week , alot must have pulled out !

just wandered over to Mo "No News" Muse's table to see if he recouped any of his losses from the cash table last night just as he got involved in a pot with Ed hardy fan Jon Lewys.

Mo raised preflop in the Big Blind.

Jon having limped in in the SB calls his raise, and says "You trying to get some chips back? How much have you lost? Ok I call and we'll just check it down right?"

Flop Q 6 5 rainbow.

Jon checks as promised, Mo bets 1500, Jon thinks and calls.

Turn K

Jon checks, Mo sits for a while and bets 2600.

Jon insta calls.

Mo starts to look pale.

River a 4.

Jon checks. Mo pops another 6600 into the pot.

Jon calls.

Mo declares ace high and Jon flips over AK to take the pot.

Just found out from ben Jenkins that Jono DID turn up to play today but was escorted from the premises after finding out he was in fact now BARRED!

Apparently he got a little out of line last night after a few too many shandys and found to his cost some of the staff here don't share the same sense of humour as him.

Still, I'm sure he can see the funny side. Sat in is hotel room alone.

Big pot on Albert "honey monster" Sapiano's table.

Ash Miah raises to 400, Greg Garrett reraises to 1200 (with AK he assures me)

4 callers, including Albert and Cuong Tran, last year's London GUKPT winner.

Flop

7 Q 7

Albert bets out 5k. Tran calls.

Turn 4 Albert Sapiano bets 10k out of turn, which goes down like a lead balloon bearing in mind this one round penalty rule here. Floor is called. Action then goes to Tran who checks, so that Albert's bet stands. Tran then check raises him to 25k!

Albert makes the call, river a 2, Tran shows QQ in the hole for a flopped full house, Albert mucks.

Albert is now sat out for one round, which may mean his 6k stack lasts that bit longer.

Dom Kaye has gone.

Totty count dropped considerably as he had the added attraction of being taller than me.

Flop was 10 10 8

Dom bet 1k

Raj Shina raised to 3.5K

Dom shoved for 10K

Raj snapped him off holding 10 8.

Dom had AK.

Greg Garrett on 76K, 2 seats to his left Cuong Tran sat with around 130K.

Greg just raised to 600 and was called by the next five consecutive players - I feel he's getting a lot of respect. Comes to the BB and Greg says "C'mon Scotsman pump it up"

"Scotsman" Barry Burns elects instead to just make up the 600.

Flop comes A 3 9

All check.

Turn K

Scotsman checks, Greg bets 1700, and Scotsman chooses to now pump it up to 4k.

Greg passes.

Guess he could have saved himself 1700 if the Scotsman had pimped it up pre instead.

Great stuff guys.  Don't peak too early, looking forward to a whole weekend of railing.

Updating with Caroline Cove

We are side by side, and I get to eavesdrop on phone conversations, look over at her facebook and generally get a peek into what is probably a maelstrom of a life.

Yesterday, Caroline shows me a comment on her facebook wall

The poster says

"Caroline, you are a Fucking MILF"

Fairly standard, I think. Not my style, however....

"but you must be used to that Caroline?"

"It's from the 14 yearold class mate of my daughter's" she says

We would like to do three updates in April

Fox Poker Main Event

DTD Deepstack

GUKPT Walsall

Fox are paying for their update in London and celtic is doing that with one other, to be decided

but certainly planning to ask Caroline to do one of the Midlands ones. However to do so we need donations from members. If you are interested in helping out please let me know on here, by PM or on Caroline's facebook, preferably giving her stick simultaneously

Buffet report

Chicken curry

and/or

vegetarian curry

and/or

fish curry

I wasn't brave enough for the fish curry, but 6 out of 10 for the chicken. Down a point on the marking for the look I got when I asked for a bigger portion

Salad, meh. Nice sausage rolls though. Smoked Salmon! Nice. Potato Salad, standard

6 out of 10 for the side offerings as a whole

Caroline liked the cake. Chocolate. "It was brilliant, had to be careful though almost went for the Black Forest by mistake. Can't be seen having that, people might think I am a Northerner."

Play a hand with Tighty

You are Jeff Rogers. You sell perfume for a living in Watford. You are reading a novel on your Amazon kindle and have headphones in. You are tactiturn and do not suffer fools gladly. You have 90,000 chips.

blinds are 150-300/25

You look down at  Jh Jd UTG+1, and UTG passes

You presumably raise?

If so how much to

One of these is the correct option

a) 850

b) 950

c) 1150

d) 1400

If you get the answer correct you go to Stage B

Whoever is the last guesser standing as we move through the hand wins

Stage b at 6.50pm

Post by: mouth on March 04, 2011, 06:44:33 PM
Paul Fowler came to me at the break to tell me he'd just won a massive pot. Not having met him before I asked him how he felt about strawberry blonde jokes - I felt it was more polite than calling him a ginga: this is my version of subtlety.

He asked me to be nice and said "I know I'm an easy target, the fat ginger lad".

Takes the fun out of it once they destroy all viable joke options.

There are 4 limpers and Neil Fox raises in the small blind from a 35,000 stack

Paul Turnstill 4 bets in the bb with KK

Fox 5 bets in the small blind

Turnstill 6 bet shoves his 62,000

Fox calls with AA

Aces hold and he doubles through Turnstill who is down to 27,000

RED DOG raises to 1,000 with Kings and the besuited and booted Peter Garrett makes it 4,000

RED flat calls and they see a Queen high rainbow flop

Both check

Turn is a rag and Tom check calls 10,000

River is a rag and Tom check calls 12,000, and is shown trip Queens

He is down to 20,000. However his smallball has kept him in the comp.

Okay in the same vien of guess the outcome.

You are Julian Thew. (Hard for any of you to actually be this nice, but try to fill his shoes)

You raise pre and get one caller, a young Dane called Silas.

The flop comes 935

You check, Silas checks.

The turn is a 4, no flush draws.

You bet 5100. Silas slowly calls.

The river is an 8.

You bet 11k.

Silas calls.

What hand do you expect him to show?

Same table.

I'm not hanging round the table with Silas, Praz and Julian on it for any reason other than in the interests of good poker obv. No Cougaring going on here.

Raj Shina Raises pre, one caller in SB from Jimmi lee.

Flop 4d 10c 4c

checked.

Turn Kc, Shina bets Lee calls.

River As

Lee checks, Shina bets 3500

Lee sits for a while and raises to 7200.

Shina sits for even longer then throws in 4 purple chips - 20K on top.

Jimmi Lee, bearing in mind the bet puts him allin, tanks and calls, only to show Shina quad 4s!

Shina mucks his set of tens and breaks Jimmi Lee's glasses for the slowroll.

Oh no sorry, that's would I would have done.

David Lloyd has just gone out, he lost some chips in a couple of hands previous, then got involved with Neils Ladefoged, on a King high flop with 2 spades, Lloyd bet the flop, Neils raised and David went allin for 20K, Neils snapped him off with AK, David missed everything with 7 9 spades.

Also on the same table is Andros Spyrou who has just doubled up with QQ off Neils the hand before. Despite giving Andros 40K with his AK in that one, he obviously decided to keep the cards and see if they worked next time round. Neils now back up gto 140K.

Timed a visit to Tom McCready's table just   in time to see him double up.

Tom raises UTG +1 to 2600

Jeff Rogers pops it up to 6600 on the button.

I hadn't bothered writing anything down but then noticed Tom had started to hyperventilate so realised there was going to be a duel to the death, and sure enough, Tom then threw another 15K in the pot.

Jeff asks him how much he's got, Tom shakily pushes his remaining chips out (he started the hand with 51K) and Jeff says allin, Tom snaps and turns over his Aces.

Jeff has KK.

No help on flop for Jeff, Red Dog Tom now up to about 106K

Praz Banzi and the Dane Silas Meyer have been locking horns for most of the day, and both having to avoid Caroline Cove's horn too

Banzi raises to 1500 in mid position at 300-600/75 from 120k

Meyer in the small blind palying 130k and the short stacked Ashrique Miah in the big blind call

flop  6c 3c 8h and Meyer leads for 4,200

Miah passes and Banzi makes it 11,000

Meyer calls after a long think

both check a  Ks turn

river  7c

Meyer thinks so long I am considering calling an ambulance for myself, him and the dealer. Seasons change, birds return for the summer and the grass needs cutting.

Eventually he bets out for 11,200

Banzi indulges in some chip tricks, looks at Meyer quizzically and folds with the reluctance of someone not entirely comfortable at being taken on at his own game

This hand took seventeen minutes, with no exaggeration. A Round with Tighty would take on current estimates about 2 hours. Sod that for a game of soldiers.

Call in the BB from Steven Harrison.

Flop 727

Harrison bets out.

Silas calls.

Turn Ace.

harrison checks, Meyer bets out 11600.

Harrison calls.

River 3.

Harrison announces allin. Silas insta calls.

Silas flopped a full house with 22.

Harrison turned a more impressive one with AA. Clearly a grower not a shower.

Silas not too unhappy abo9ut losing with his twos full, as he has just doubled up while crippling Praz bansi in the meantimer.

Silas wandering past to the loo, I say "unlucky about the twos."

Silas "That's okay I just doubled up again. Some guy couldnt lay down K3"

I have a feeling i know who was holding K3.. I ask "Was it Praz with the K3?"

Silas looks at me blankly and says Who?

"Praz. Praz bansi? "

No, Silas says, " I don't know him but he needs to learn to control his aggression."

When Tighty and I managed to speak again, we told him who Praz was.

I even pulled this up:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praz_Bansi

Silas's jaw dropped as he pointed to the line about Praz's winnings and he just looked at me in shock. I said maybe it was better he didnt know who he was before the game or it may not have happened the same way. He agreed!

Anyway, turned out Silas had KK, he raised Praz 3 bet him with K3 soooted and the rest was history, although not reported on Wikipedia as yet.

Praz went out hand afterwards.

Totty count decimated.

Then he raised Amy T's big blind.

Flop was 3c Ac 7d

Kev bet 5600

Amy went allin for a total of 46K.

Kevin then did this for a while -

Christopher Goodson raises with Aces.

This fella, John Brider, calls in the big blind with 6-2 off

they see a Q-6-2 rainbow flop

Brider leads, Goodson shoves and is shoved out of the door by the flopped two pair

yes, checking that out. I am thinking tens was short, won a small main pot and a side pot was split. Caroline tells me there was definitely a split in there

New chip leader, Paul Fowler.

David Green raised with AJ spades.

Called by Andros Spyros holding ACES, then called by Paul with K10.

Flop 10 high, one spade.

C bet of 11k by David, flat call by Andros and fat call by Paul with top pair and no concept of just how far behind to Andros he currently is.

Turn Ks

David now checks holding the nut flush draw and possibly a Royal.

Andros checks

Paul Fowler goes ALL IN with his top two pair, swiftly called by David with his erm Ace high

Andros FOLDS his Aces.

River pairs a rag on the board, David misses the lot, left with about 80k, Paul up to 270, Andros would have won when the board paired on river, with the better two pair, which Paul Parker keeps mentioning to him, telling him how much he would have had if he'd called, instead of now being a short stack..

Paul Parker goes out shortly afterwards. Karma's a bitch.

Complete misrepresentation on my part on the split pot hand.

Player with the 10s had the higher straight and scooped the main pot, but was outchipped by the other two in the pot, who then split the side pot.

You may also think I described the hand with the AA/K10/AJ incorrectly as well - nope, it really was that bad.

Just over half an hour to the break and then one more level before play ends for  the day.

Message for Paul Alterman

Come on dad.

Charlotte and Joel

Hi guys

Some disappointing news I am afraid

Peter Nicolle is in the small blind and raises

Your Dad re-raises in the big blind with Kings

Peter calls

flop  6d 3s 9c

Peter open shoves the flop for about 90,000 into a 45,000 pot

Your Dad calls with  Kh Kd

Peter is completely locked up with  9s 8s

turn  2s

river  8h

to out-draw your Dad and push him down to under 100,000. However all is not lost, plenty of time to build back up

Niels Ladefoged limps for 1,600

Turnstill punishes the limp. I notice this is very much Ben's style...raises a lot in limped pots, presumably sensing dead money in these spots. Makes it 6,200

Grant Mercado calls in the big blind and the Dane Ladefoged call

flop  4d 5d Td

checked to Turnstill he bets 12,500. Mercado passes but Ladefoged c-raises to 25,000

Turnstill gives that one up, but you can see why he gets chips though

 news for Cushion Turnstill fans

With a 50,000 stack, so already recovered from earlier he raises pre from the cut off

Tina Lane tries to re-raise from the big blind but, with no verbal announcement underraises and is held to call

flop  4s Js 6h

Tina leads and Cushion flat calls

turn  8c

Tina checks, Cushion bets 15,000 into a 20,000 pot...

Tina c-raises all in and is just covered. Paul the cushion has a made hand with  Jd 8d for flopped top pair and turned two pair and calls

Tina has  Aspades Qs for the nut flush draw

River  9h

Cushion Turnstill goes over 100,000 and Lane is out All, probably because of a mistake pre-flop in not announcing raise when intending to 3-bet.

"I have just won a huge pot, fancy a free haircut?" (well, almost. Fact though, his salon is at the end of my road)

Paul Fowler raises to 4,500 with  Ac Tc, Pino calls with  Ahrt 9s

Yes, here comes a Pino special

9 high flop, two clubs

All the chips go in, with Pino on 98,000 covered

Paul misses the 10 overcard and 9 club outs and Pino Valentino from Luton, a player here of 25 years standing, doubles to 200,000

RED-DOG receives that late slice of luck he needs

Jeff Rogers raises in the cut off and RED in the big blind puts his last 29,600 in

Jeff calls with  4s 4d

RED  Ahrt 3d

Board  2d 6c Jh 6s  Jc

Sixes and Jacks with an Ace kicker counterfeit three pair and doubles RED up over 60,000

Jambo has gone - shoved his short stack right slap bang into Greg Garrett's A A

No help for Jambo's QQ

Greg now has about 85K and has suddenly rediscovered his voice, now telling everyone what to do and what he's going to do.

What is about these loud scousers? They're everywhere.

Jimmi Lee raises in early position to 6,000

RED-DOG makes it 20,000 on the button

This is called

So a big pot in the context of two below average stacks 46,000 in the middle.  Neither has a Pot sized bet behind

Flop  6h 7d  7h

Lee checks and RED shoves as he must do

Lee thinks inordinately. Monster dwell

Eventually he calls all in with  Jh Jd

RED sighs and flips  Th Ts

but really it played itself with those stack sizes on that flop

9d Ac turn and river and we lose Tom McCready

55 left with 20 minutes left to play today

Amy Trodd raises to 5,200 UTG

Grant Mercado makes it 35,000 in mid position

Amy playing 200,000

Grant playing 300,000

Amy shoves

Grant asks for a count, calls

Amy  Ahrt Aspades

Grant  Kh Kd

This is back to back Aces for Amy!

board  Ts 7c Js 9c A frisson on the table as the gutshot Queen looms into view

river  Jh

Aces hold, and Amy Trodd moves into the tournament chip lead 400,000 and more than halves the previous chip leader's stack

Julian Thew flops a set, ends up making a crying call on river on a flop with 45678 on it, only to chop the pot with the agrressor holding King high.

Dealer tells him he played it well.

Julian says things really looking up when the dealer gives you a rubdown.

Not Darren Ward's real name is Dan Beresford. Easy mistake to make.
anyone in the world running as bad as julian right now?

this is a joke right?
