Title: GUKPT London Day 1a
Post by: TightEnd on March 17, 2011, 08:59:12 AM
London's Grosvenor Victoria Casino is the venue for the latest GUKPT festival and the £1,500 main event next blonde Poker Live Update.

The Main Event action kicks off today with the first of two Day One flights starting at noon.

Another bumper field is expected (says the blurb) and will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Cuong Tran who defeated a final table that included Laurence Houghton, Vicky Coren, Leon Bui and Neil Channing to take the £127,800 first prize in last year's Main Event.

Thanks to member donations, I will be there for all four days to bring coverage

Please join me from midday

Up to 87 players today, and we are playing 9 levels

Not in their seats yet: Eames, JP, Banzi etc

Steve Watts, the ex Pro footballer with a penchant for flat caps just took me aside to tell me he is absolutely certain he is going to win this. So that's recorded for posterity then

A nice one to start us off

Abhi Khaitan raises in early position to 325 at 20-100

Max Winberg flats on the button

Darco Sich ups it to 850 in the big blind

Khaitan folds

Winberg 4 bets to 3,500

Sich calls

Winberg 14,000 at the start of the hand, Sich 16,000

flop  Jc 9d 4d

Sich leads for 3,000 and is met with an instant shove from Winberg for 9,200 more

Sich thinks and eventually folds  Kc Ks face up

Winberg shows  Ad Ahrt

Title: Re: GUKPT London Day 1a
Post by: TightEnd on March 17, 2011, 01:28:18 PM
First exit Pizzo managed to call a 5 bet shove pre with 9-9 and found himself up against Aces

Sean Sullivan was the second exit

---------------------------------------------

Steve Watts raises to 275,

Paul Rodger the London Scrap metal dealer from the English deepstack 3 bets to 700,

Steve makes the call

The flop comes 6--4--5

Steve checks, Paul bets 2,000, Steve makes the call.....

The turn comes a 7.

Steve again checks, Paul bets 3100, leaving himself 5100 behind.

Steve Watts instantly announces all in. Paul reluctantly folds his hand.

Steve shows J-3 for the straight and takes the pot.

Steve Watts was chip leader with 30,000 but just ran Kings into Aces pre to double Paul Rodger up to 12,300

He then asked me if he should have passed Kings. I cogitated and whilst I did so he asked four passers by the same question. One was a valet, one was Dena and one was Romanello. One I didn't know, sorry.

Amongst the chip leaders here in level 3 are David Rudling, from Colchester way, who just doubled through Amy Trodd

twitter tells it all

Amy_T  Amy Trodd
Down to 12k. Guy called my 4bet with AJ. Then called my allin on a 33J flop. Kings no good with jack turn.

and Michael Piper, who bet all three streets of  7c 2d 8c 3c 7d against pre-flop raiser Gavin Cochrane and got a fold on the end

Both with 30,000

Chris Brammer raises to 400 utg and Keir Ratcliffe calls utg+1

Kevin Williams, a Black Belt player I believe makes it 11000 in the small blind

Brammer folds, Ratcliffe now makes it 2,750 and Williams calls

flop  Kd 7h 2h

Williams check calls 3600

turn  Qd

Williams checks, Ratcliffe all in for 10,500 covering Williams

Williams calls off with....

 9s 7d

and loses to  Ac Kh

No value in poker these days

Joining the action after a flop of  6h 8s 3d

Mark McCluskey, The Firm Poker, leads for 2,000 into 1,500

The pre-flop raiser Robert Angood makes it 5,025 UTG

McCluskey has 12,000 behind and eventually with a resigned chuckle is shown  Ahrt Kc by Angood when he passes

Matteo Fratelli, who might be Italian, has felted Jerome Bradpeice

Bradpiece raised utg, Fratelli 3 bet the button and Bradpiece called

My attention was distracted by a valet in fishnets serving chicken satay to the players which is a fatal combination of food and legs for my concentration I am afraid

I turn round again to see both all in on the river of

 Ahrt 5d Aspades Qc Kh

with Fratelli revealing  Ks Kc to take it down with Kings fuill of Aces

Bradpiece mucks, I assume, a decent Ace

Karl Mahrenholz chip leader with over 50,000

I didn't see the hand so repeat verbatim his description of the hand

"three way against him (Leon Louis) and him (Krzysztof Jaromin)"

"I had  9d 7d and flopped a flush draw and a gutshot. I check raised Louis, who called. I hit my gutshot on the turn, so did he. We got it in and I redraw the flush on the river"

Chris Brammer calls, Leo Margets then raises to 2500.

Action comes back to Ben who makes it 4750,

Chris folds, Leo moves all in and Ben makes the call....

Leo QQ
Ben kk

Kings hold for Ben as he doubles to 48,000

Leo is down to just 600 chips.

Jeff Duvall still 45-50,000

Interesting hand

Rana Gurnam raises utg and is called by Mehdi Senjali, Jeff Kimber on the button and Pantelli in the blinds

flop  Qs Jc 4c

checked to Snejali who leads, Gurnam calls

turn  8s

Gurnam checks and Senjali asks how much Rana has left. "14,000" comes the reply

Senjali bets 4,000 less than half the pot and is called

river  Tc completing most hands you would think

Gurnam checks and Senjali checks

Senjali says "straight" and reveals  9s 8h for the rivered gutshot, bet it all the way on the come and then checked the made hand on the river

Gurnam looks in disbelief, and mucks

We're just coming up to a 45 minute break. Not sure why we have a 45 minute break as the players have been served nibbles, fish and chips or lamb rogan josh and a choice of three ice creams and red or white wine through the afternoon, so there is no dinner as such now. All very civilised though.

However a 45 minute break it is. The key table here I am going to watch after the break is Chris Brammer/Ben Jenkins/Keir Ratcliff where Jenkins is a chip leader and a lot of pots are 3 and 4 bet pre. Mainly by these three.

Another lively table has Mahrenholz/Romanello/Clark on.

Elsewhere Kimber is battling assorted Continental Europeans on a third table. Doing well too.

Chip counts will be on their way when I receive them

10 Minutes left of the break

from AWOP

There were 4 limpers to Chris Brammers big blind so he made it 2500 to play. He found one caller in Mark Brockwell....

The flop came 6--9--J

Chris fired out 2500, Mark called.

The turn came a three.

Chris fired again, this time 5200, Mark again made the call.

The river came another Jack.

Chris checked his option, Mark quickly bet 10,000.....Chris went into the tank only having 17,000 left himself....

Chris decided to call, Mark says good call!! Chris shows 7-7.

Mark mucks his hand.

Mark is down to 8,000 chips.

Chris is up to nearly 50,000!!

Blinds are 300 - 600 with a running ante of 50.

54 players remaining.

Average stack is 24,400.

First exit after the break is Mark Brockwell

Matteo Fratelli raises, Senhaji calls and Brockwell calls for 2,000 of his 8,000 in the big blind

He stop and goes on  Kd Jd 7h with  4d 3d, Fratelli calls him with  Qd Qc and holds

Talal Shakerchi makes it 1850 utg

Ben Jenkins calls utg+1

Tamer Kemal cals on the button

Steve Watts squeeze shoves 18,000 from the big blind

Shakerchi iso-shoves 30,000

Jenkins gives it serious thought but releases, as does Kemal

Shakerchi flips  Aspades Kc

Watts "damn I am drawing to a three" and shows  Kh 3d

a railbird says plaintively "Jeez Stevo, what have you done?"

the question hangs in the air, no answer readily apparent byanybody watching,  as the board runs out

 7s 5h 4h 2d Qc for Watts to depart

Title: Re: GUKPT London Day 1a

Martin Malone making progress over 30,000

Bets 6,000 into 9,000 on the river of a 6-A-7-Q-9 board and gets called by Tamer Kemal who mucks when Malone shows A-9

--------------------------------------------------

Michael "Wazz" Piper found himself in a tough spot versus Chris Jaromin

I joined the action to see Piper check call 5,000 from an 18,000 stack on  Kc 4h 6h Ad from the big blind

Piper checks the  3d river, Jaromin fires 6,500 and Piper makes a good call, after a monster dwell with  7d 7c to win the pot when Jaromin mucks

As we head to level 8 with 40 left the recent exits are Mo Muse, Tamer Kemal and Katie O'Connor

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chip leader still Jeff Kimber ahead of Karl Mahrenholz, Talal Shakerchi, Ben Jenkins and David Rudling

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also well up there was Matteo Fratelli...then he raised pre and was called by Chris Kyriacou and both blinds

flop  Ad 9d 6s

Fratelli leads, Kyriacou raises, Fratelli 4 bets and Kyriacou 5 bet shoves. It appears as if Fratelli has to call. Its about 12,000 more into an over 40,000 pot

He says, instead "You must have hit your set" and passes handing the nice pot to Kyriacou

the top ten stacks

Jeff Kimber

Karl Mahrenholz

Talal Shakerchi

 Ben Jenkins

David Rudling

Keir Radcliffe

Daniel Moosah

James Morris

Chris Jaronim

Kimber over 100,000 the rest well over 50,000 at 400-800/75

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mahrenholz and Ratcliff play out a board of  Ac Kh Qs Tc Jc

after pre flop raise-age from Karl and call-age in position from Keir

Ratcliff leads after the flop with  Ad 7d

Mahrenholz seesaws into the lead with  Ts Td on the turn

and the chop after the river

Mahrenholz says to Ratcliff

"three years ago we'd have got the lot in on the river but we can't be bothered these days, can we?"

Karl Mahrenholz knocks out Mark McCluskey, K7 versus a short stacked shoving A6

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I gather Jeff Kimber is playing for thefirmpoker this week

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris Brammer loses a big pot to Max Winberg

I only arrive with the cards on their backs on the river

Brammer AQcc on the button, Winberg Aces in the small blind

Aces hold up on a King High board to take Winberg right up there and leave Brammer short

-------------------------------------------------------------

Jamie Roberts opens for 1650 in mid position and Talel Shakerchi calls in the cut off

Roberts leads for 2,200 on  5c Qc Th, called

He continues for 5,000 on the  Kd turn called

He value bets 5,000 on the  Ad river, called

and Roberts flips  Jd Td to take a 27,000 pot from a rueful Shakerchi who has been done all ends up on the river, presumably
