It was a wet journey across London. I pulled down the ramp entering the Vic's underground car park following a monstrous black Pick up. Big wheels, blacked out windows, all shiny. 60 plate, Brighton dealer.

"Who is this?" I wondered to myself

He parked up at the valet bay, and jumped out. Mr Tony Cascarino. Door left open, I peeked inside. Looked like a NASA Space station with more gadgets than the Gadget show

Three valets fought to climb in to go and park his car. Funnily enough the same could not be said of the queue to park my A6

Cascarino bounded up the stairs, into the card-room and was 91st to buy in for today's 1b at Midday

So, interaction today please. No other updater to bounce off so i am relying on you to help me make this a good update, thanks

Looking across the way a £2-5 NLHE game is running and has been now since mid last evening. Tom McDonald is sat in it still, no sleep, and apparently is in a hole. A big hole.

Right bear with me

table 10 looks so good that I am going to do a round there

Sadly on my own so other coverage will have to wait, as play (in terms of time to make decisions) is typically slow in these

Table Ten

Seat One - Andrew Teng

Seat Two - Stuart Rutter

Seat Three - JP Kelly

Seat Four - Toby Lewis

Seat Five - Nils Nilsson

Seat Six - Tim Finne

Seat Seven - Matin Jouzdani

Seat Eight - Sam Trickett

Seat Nine - Greg Haik

Please talk amongst yourselves

Break after 2 levels

148 of 154 remain

two levels still to buy in

blinds 75-150 when they come back

A round or part of a round with Trickett, JP, Rutter and Lewis is next

Stay with us, don't turn over etc.

Title: Re: GUKPT London Day 1b
Post by: TightEnd on March 18, 2011, 02:38:01 PM
So I went to do a round with Trickket, Lewis and Kelly but the combvined might of EPT, WSOP and High Roller victories combined to produce seven raise folds and a walk in nine hands

The ninth hand was the exception

It's decision time with JP, readers

blinds are 75-150 Greg Haik makes it 400 utg

You, JP Kelly call in mid position with  8h 6h

Toby Lewis calls

Martin Jouzdani in the big blind calls

flop is  8s 6d 5c. Not that you run well or anything

Checked to you and you bet 1200 and only the big blind calls

turn  5d and you are check called for 2,500

river  Th

Jouzdani leads for 3,500 with 3,300 behind

You have 10,000 at this point

Pot size is 9,000

Jouzdani is 20s, American, smartish, but a random to all intents and purposes

The action is on you JPs of the live update thread.....fold, call, raise?

Look who I found

Kishan Mithani

From North London, and close confidant of the Khajuria brothers

He and I have history. Mainly because at Luton he eats packets of nuts as he plays, cracking them in his mouth sounding as if he is firing a small pistol. Added to that he takes losing a pot well.

An unorthodox player, and frankly I was surprised to see him in such August company though he did have a big win in a GUKPT side at the back end of last year that has moved him up the poker ladder.

Josh Green with Aces almost knocks out Peter Gardiner with Queens. Didn't see the pre-flop but in it all went on a Jack high rainbow flop

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cooler hand on Table Camel

Jen Chiang raised utg, DTD Deepstack winner Greg Garrett 3 bet the small blind.

Big blind Caroline De-Weerdt called, encouraging Chiang to come along too

flop  2s 4s 8h

Innocuous you would have though

Garrett leads for 3,000

Flatted by Caroline

Chiang shoves for 20,00 covering both

Garrett leans back, exhales, studies Chiang and eventaully folds

Caroline Calls with  8c 8d

Chiang  Aspades Qs

Garrett apparently folded  Kd Kc

The set holds to triple the Dutch lady up

Well its JP and Toby Lewis watching the clip below...which was preceded by a very protracted discussion of correct Goldenballs strategy by 7 of the 10 players led by Sam Trickett

Meanwhile as this is happening St Rutter calls a Trickett button raise in the big blind

flop  4c Kc Ad

check check

turn  3h

Rutter check raises a bet to 3100, called

river  7h

Rutter shoves for 9,000

Trickett folds showing  Qc 5c

Rutter shows  4s 4h

around 7,000 in the middle on a board of A--7--9--8

Sida Yuen bets 4,300 and is quickly called by Wai Kwan Yuen.....

The river comes a King.

Wai checks, Sida instantly announces all in

Wai thinks for a while before making the call with A-K.

Sida shows 9-9 for a set and takes the pot now having around 40,000

Wai Kwan Yuen  out

Jamie Burland has had a fun level

First he doubled up Dennis Torake blind on blind A-J into A-A on an A high flop

Next hand K-K on the button

Hand after Q-Q all in on J-9-4 against 10-8 to hold and take him over 50,000

Folded round to Louise Duffy in the small blind with 7,000

Luke Schwarz is in the big blind with 7,000. Reputdely £10,000 ligher of pocket than he was an hour ago due to his excursion downstairs

Duffy shoves

Schwarz looks at her and with an expresion that says "sod it" calls all in

Ooops, Duffy has  8d 3c

Schwarz cannot believe his luck  8h 7d

the flop means Luke is likely to be the flop Skywalker  5c 6d Qs

However the turn is  3d

river  Qs and Schwarz is out

As Duffy says succintly

"I don't think either of us could be bothered to sit there with 7,000 for long"

Simon Eastwood makes it 1400, Sam Grafton 3bets to 2725, Simon makes the call.

The flop comes J-6-3

Sam leads out for 2,075, Simon calls.

The turn comes an 8.

Sam again fires, this time 3100, Simon calls again.

The river comes a 7.

Sam doesn't think for long before moving all in for 10,300.

Simon doesn't believe him and makes the call leaving himself with 9,000.

Sam shows ACES

Simon mucks.

Sam Grafton now up over 35,000

Jamie Burland raises and Caroline De Weert calls in the big blind

flop  Kd 9c Ts

Caroline check calls

tun  Qc

Caroline check calls

river  8c

Caroline leads for 4,500 into about 7,000 on just about the wettest board you can imagine

This seems to perplex Jamie who eventually calls, more out of inquisition than confidence it seems

and mucks when he is shown  Jc Jd for the turned straight

Sam Grafton has knocked out Chaz Chatta A-6 versus a short stacked shove with 7-7

Ben Roberts out

As we enter level 6 200-400/50 we have 98 of 157 left, average stack 24,000

Chip leaders today Anthony Kennedy, Sam Grafton, Ian Gascoigne from DTD via Sheffield and Peter Charalambous

Robert Boon raises and is flat called in two spots

From the blinds Marc Goodwin shoves 10,000

Boon re-shoves

Boon A-K, holds against A-Q to knock Goodwin out

--------------------------------------------------------

Kishani Mithani raises and is called by Sida Yuen

flop  9s 6s 5c

Mithani bets 2,000, a PSB

Yuen 6,000

Mithani shoves for 14,000

Yuen snaps with  9d 6d and busts Mithani with  Ahrt 9h

Very impressed by Yuen I must say from my brief looks at him today. Good presence, great temperament, methodical style.

Sam Grafton makes it 1,225, Lam Trinh 3bets to 4325.

Action comes back to Sam who makes it 7325,

Lam looks at Sams stack before 5 betting to 12,425.

Sam ponders his decision before just flat calling the 5 bet.

The flop comes Q-J-3

Lam announces all in and Sam snap calls

Lam A-Q
Sam A-A

The turn and river are both bricks for Lam as he is down to 15,000.

Sam Grafton is up to 75,000

Grafton raises to 1,275 and the button Demis Hassabis calls

Dale Hoy the loosey goosey loudy woudy Chief Exec of Red Hot Poker is in the small blind and announces raise from a 16,000 stack

He is unaware there has been a raise up front, and has to min raise to 2,550

Grafton re-raises to 6,000

Hassabis folds and Hoy re-peeks at  Jh 8h so I can see it, deliberately

No need to get stubborn, don't compound a mistake. Fold. Simples

He flicks in the call and with 15,000 in the middle and him having 8,000 left he sees a flop of

 3c 4d Kh

Check. He has  Jh 8h

Grafton "All in"

Fold from Hoy.

Arriving to see a board of  3d 6h 7c Jh

Jim Reid in the small blind checks and so does Toby Lewis in the big having considered for a while first

About 6,000 in the pot

Reid 25,000 behind

Lewis perhaps 18,000

River   4s

Reid checks

Lewis 4,000

Reid's brow furrows and he flicks in a call after some deliberation

Lewis reveals  Td 9d for ten high

He then turns his cards over, about to hand them face down to the dealer, thinking of course that he has been caught

Reid laughs heartily and shows  Th 8d, revealing that each had a blocker for the other's potential hand

Which is nearly a fantastic call. I think.

Lewis takes down the 14,000 pot with his nine kicker

Vic Veteran player Lawrence Windish raises to 2,000 at 300-600

Camel makes it 5,000 next to speak

Back to Windish who contemplates his stack of about 20,000 and flats

flop  3c 4d 5c

Windish check

Camel "ALL IN!"

Windish beats him to the end of the phrase "CALL"

Camel "Have you got Aces?"

Windish flips  Ad Ahrt

Camel  Qc Qd

Aces hold and Camel is down to 10,000

He raises his eyebrows at me, as if to say "It was ok til you got here" He's right

This is the two above after the camel pre-flop 3 bet

80,000

I asked him how he had got so many he needed three trays to move to table Yuen/Grafton/Spinks

"Luckboxing" was the honest reply

Sami Mahmoud and Stephen Mills play out a 70,000 pot. All in pre Mahmoud  Ahrt Kh and Mills  Ts Th

Mahmoud spikes the  Ad on the flop.

Next hand the now short stacked Mills shoves  Ac 5d and Bruno Fernandes in the big blind calls with  Ad 3d

flop  2h 4c 5h

thank you and goodnight, Stephen

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile I arrive at table Anthony Kennedy to see him check call 4,500 from Peter Charalambous, from the small blind, on a turn of a

 Th Qc 8c 6d board

Pot size 6,000ish

River  7c and Kennedy leads for 6,000 into 15,000

Charra thinks. He has about 20,000 left

As he is thinking Kennedy pipes up

"Have you got deuces?"

"threes?"

Pause

"Tell me what you've got and I will tell you what you should do"

As soon as he finishes his sentence Charra flicks in the call, and before the chips hit the felt Kennedy exclaims "NUTS!"

and shows  Ac 3c

Definitely feel the speechplay got him a call, there

Robert Boon raises and Stephen Eames shoves 15,000 from the big blind. Called

Boon  Ks Kc

Eames  Jd Ahrt

board runs out  4h 3s Tc 7s Ad to double Eames up

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plenty of post flop pots on the Nagi table

Arriving on a board of  9d 9h  4s

five way pot

Grafton leads for 2,100 into 3,000. Yuen calls. Nagi calls on the button. Both blinds fold

All check the  Ad turn

river  5d

check check and Nagi bets 3,750

Both Grafton and Yuen seem to find difficulty in folding but do so

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Down to 8 tables in one tournament area, which makes it easier for me

Newly onto downstairs tables are Praz Banzi with 30,000 and Ian Gascoigne with 70,000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dangerous players grinding along but with below average stacks are Rob Sherwood and Andrew Teng. Toby Lewis approaching an average stack

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three Team Sky Pokers remain Dan Brown, Wayne Rideout and WPT Mag editor Jon Young. Cottonbud Williams went before the last break

Would love to Jeff but it simply takes to long to complete a round, I'd have a blank update for about half an hour by the time I'd written it up

If it helps I think its the feature table on AWOP's live stream

I am around that table most when not at the laptop, as it is certainly the one with the interesting dynamics

it is the feature table. keep spotting you wander past. the camera adds X pounds

Good fun around these tables

Toby Lewis stands up and I say to him

"Alright Toby?"

"Yes still in shock"

"What thay you are still in?" I ask without thinking

"No" thankfully he misses my humour

"That ten Nine hand"

"Yes" I say "fun hand"

"Must mean I am terrible" he says

Jim Reid pipes up "No, it means I am"

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Sam Grafton raises to 1,600 on the button

and the rather expressionless Darren Annis pops it to 4,000 in the small blind

Grafton 4 bet shoves for a lot

He says to Spinks, as Annis is contemplating

"No one on this table knows my record in $24 comps"

Spinks looks at him

Grafton smiles an enormous smile

"Yeah I final the $24 4pm HORSE on Full Tilt for fun. He'd pass if he knew that"

Annis passes and Grafton shows the corner of a  2h to his mate Craig MacCorkell railing

OK no hands caught on that last sortie into enemy territory so its break time

End of 8 levels

58 of 157 left

Average 40,600

blinds in the last level of the day will be 500-1000/100

Chip counts when I have them

Back in 15

Please stay with the update for the last level and post away, it would be most appreciated. Take my mind off the aches and pains of two days in semi darkness hunched over a laptop!

Jon Spinks opens to 2,300

Sam Grafton 3 bets to 5,400

folded to Guy Steel in the big blind who shoves 35,000

Spinks re-shoves

Grafton folds

Spinks K-K

Steel A-K

Kings hold, Steel is out and Spink moves into contention with over 100,000

Sida Yeun and Anthony Kennedy 170,000 each

before the break this was how Yeun got there

Spinks Spanked

Jonathon Spinks calls off half his stack, 15.5k to Sida Yuen with the board looking summat like 9d2d9c9hAc.  Sida has his same ol' same ol' Q9.  Spinks left with 15k.  .

that's from the GUKPT Blog

and this is how. Sherwood took Aces against Banzi's Pocket Fives. Five on the flop

and the final catch up

Spinks 15k at the break

Here is his treble up

3 way all in....

Jon Spinks.....A-Q
Kamal Choria..A-9 of spades
Manig Loeser..A-K

The flop comes 8 high with 2 spades, giving Kamal the nut flush draw.

The turn comes a Queen putting Jon infront.

The river was a blank.

Jon Spinks trebles to 50,000.

Kamal heads out!!

then the hand with Kings to go to 100,000

right, back out there...

Toby Lewis knocks out David Shotton

Shotton shoved Q-J off short, Lewis called in the big blind with A-8 and won his 90-10% shot

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gregory Haik knocks out Paul Kerr

Kerr had mucked when I got there but the board read  Ac Kc Ts and Haik had shown  Qd Jd so lets assume that was conclusive.

The quiet Haik has a big stack, over 100,000

Dave Barnes with the garrulous voice that sounds like a car going over a stony drive, is out

Sida Yuen knocks out Jeff Hefferman

A-J v 5-5 for a 30,000 pot

Toby Lewis is out

An assortment of bloggers, pens, paper and microphones in hand descended on the table in the latter stages of the hand as the pot got big

Anyone would think Toby had won something somewhere once

I arrvied slightly out of breath in time to peer across and see his opponent Gary Lindsay shows Jacks to win the pot on a 2-5-10-K-3 board. Toby mucks

Lindsay was small blind, Toby in early position so lets piece together that Toby raises, Lindsay 3 bet and it went from there

Left with less than a big blind Toby got it in with Q-1O against Q-2 and the door card was a 2

Fortunately Martin Green is in the bar

45 players will play out the final few hands of the night

Anthony Kennedy and Sida Yuen look like goin into tomorrow's day two at the head of affairs, with about 65-70 runners left in fighting for the £101,000 first prize
