Simon Aces Trumper

Happy with Deepstack result, players benefited from £8k of overlays in our Mega Sats and we just scraped the £100k GTE with 336 runners, 26 people re-entered from Friday. Thanks for your continued support that allows us to keep faith and maintain high GTE's, was always going to be tough with so many regulars at the WSOP, Cheers Aces

We're underway in ten minutes

The DTD system has not overcome its glitches with multi Day1 tournaments so no seat draw yet

Or Prize break out. 36 places paid though

We start across 7 tables.

Good luck me, wifi has slowed dramatically even with 50 or so people entering the building

Disagree. Not sure why they use two purples per stack on day 1. The amount of times you have to change them is more tilting

put your chips in the pot let the dealer do their job. if the house work it well enough there should be 'just enough' change on the table

not stupid stacks with morons who count out 2 chips at a time and take 10 minutes every time they try and do anything + have no idea how much they have infront of them etc

Yeah I can see how it might slow it down a bit but it doesn't change the fact that having a massive stack feels awesome :)

Fraser is my favourite today after he brought me two warm sausage rolls straight from the bakery

"No one ever brings you anything" he said. Ain't that right!

Will try not to get him into trouble again over the DTD software!

Anyone else miss the mountains of green chips people used to have in the deepstack? Using the purple chips spoils it imo :(

speeds up the game a billion times over though, people are so awful with counting chips out it's so tilting. this can only be a good thing.

I'd rather put my chips in the pot then have to annouce the bet and constantly have dealers making change when those same people have to make change which takes twenty mins as they try and get rid of their lower denomination chips

In a comp of this size and "calibre," even the idiots have played enough cards to be semi aware of their stack size. Having one single 5k chip provokes "do you have a purple under there," several thousand times per blind level. Waiting for the dealer to change this chip with players that are not at all happy to give up their hard earned "change," is super time consuming. Plus, I don't know a single player that doesn't make ridic annoying bet sizes, and there's nothing worse than watching the less capable dealers count backwards from 5k to 1,375. Also, I appreciate that the 5k chips are there to speed the action up, but the TD will normally colour up MASSIVE stacks during the breaks. There's no reason why the players, having paid £36 in reg fee, shouldn't feel at least a little bit balla with a handful of green chips.

Yikes

Adam picken raises pre and is called on the button by John Charra

flop
 7d 8d 2h

Picken leads for 21,000

Charra pushes for 60,000

Picken "Oh no, I have a terrible hand but dlon't think i can pass"

Charra "I am liking this!"

Picken "I call"

Picken  Qc 2d

Charra  9c 9h

turn  Qs

John Charalambous bubbles

Picken, a fresh faced 19 year old.."sorry"

Charra rounds on him"don't you dare say sorry, you are not sorry, wouldn't have  called if you didn't want to win the pot" pause, jabbing finger "never say sorry"

and storms off.

Bubbles, nasty times.

Dixon  Aspades 8h

Tarmac Ad 3c

 3h 2d 4d Kd 9d to knock Dixon out 36th

Lee Cockroft another short-stack shoves J-J. Picken calls 10-10 and doubles Cockroft up

J-8-9 is a dangerous flop

Gianni Marotta raises and down to 5x bb David Craigon shoves J-10s

Up against K-Q he misses and is out 23rd

Meanwhile Paul Romain is shortstackled and shoves his last 50,000 with K-J

Anon2 and Eustace call in the blinds

10-3-2-4-9

King high beats Jack high and Queen high for an unlikely treble up

Lawrence Gosney raises and the now short Naresh Parshad shoves the big blind with 3-3

Insta call with 4-4

First card out a 4, Parshad out 22nd

K-10 holds and Bellamy is out 21st

James Tidey opens to 30,000 at 6-12k playing 600k

Lawrence Gosney defends his big blind playing 500k

flop A-7-7

Check, Tidey 30,000

Gosney c-raise to 72,000

called

turn 4

Gosney open shoves for just under 400,000 into 150,000

Big think for Tidey, presumably (I think to myself) with A-K or similar

He eventually calls to make a 1,000,000 pot with A-J

Gosney shows....

go on guess......

guessed yet?

7-2 offsuit

River 8 and Gosney becoems a big chip leader, leaving Tidey with 100,000

Anon limps and calls a raise from Lloyd Houston

flop Q high two clubs

Anon c-raises all in against Aces with QJcc and misses to depart 20th

Adam Picken seemed to have a very short-stack by the time I returned to the tournament area

I enquired as to why, and discovered he had doubled up Peter Evans twice, losing two races in succession. Evans is now well abouve average

He then shoved K-6 b-o-b versus James Tidey, new to the table as they broke down to 2 tables. Tidey called with Q-10hh

10 on the flop, Picken out 18th and Tidey back to just under 300,000

I knew Gosney was gonna have a run this weekend. The very second Cos said he is a terrible player the result was never gonna be in doubt.

Deal

Everyone takes £5,000 which is 5th place or so

£36,000 left

1st gets 40% of that, 2nd 30%, 3rd 20% 4th 10%

So 1st £19,400

2nd £15,800

3rd £12,200

4th £8,600

Well done all

people forget the opportunity cost of winning £9k.  Its not just the £9k in cash.  It could also be £5k+ saved in interest on a £9k credit card/loan repayment etc which can be cleared early.  So effectively the £9k is worth £14k potentially.  Therefore in this case making a bad EV deal a good EV deal.  Plus the added lack of stress of having debts hanging over you. Similarly if the player is staked into this the £9k might allow him to play his regular games without staking and keep a much bigger chunk of his future income to him/herself.

This event is one of the best events in the UK for mixing total amateurs (due to the sheer number of sat winners) and full time pros and everyone inbetween.  I dont really get why people are surprised when diff months throw up different deals on the final table depending who is has reached the final table.

I doubt players who are finacially instable would make this +ev choice of repayment. I know a few degens who will just see it as 9k gambling tokens! I guess thats what brought them into the tourney in the first instance.

I disagree.  I think a fair number of sat winners (not all obv) treat the £20-£40 spent on a sat into the £300 deepstack as a casual bet like doing a football coupon etc.  If they were given the chance to close out their football coupon with one game to go to win £9k most casual gamblers would probably choose to do this.

First hand back from the break Houston raises to 130,000

Eustace all in 600,000 bb

Houston long dwell fold

Average stacks <10xbb. Not many raise/folds left in any of these stacks

We really should speed through things now

No more deals in the break, mainly because 2-3 players got short just before it

Correct but not everyone who gambles does so for +ev spots and when they have a chance to win relative big money locking in a profit at what seems a -EV spot in pure theory can actually be +EV if you consider the uses of the cash won to save on loan/interest payments etc.  The vast majority of people consider casual forms of gambling as entertainment not investment.  Playing a £20 sat to have a shot at the big time (for most people playing the £300 at dtd would be their biggest live event ever played) then the ability to make a five figure sum whatever the EV of the deal makes a lot of sense

The other four all call and call the 2,000 raise

10-10-5-3-4 is checked down until last to act on the river Anon bets 300,000

I think this is a general reaction on the rail. Most thought that with £5k locked up they'd try and get playable stacks and get 4th up. This didn't really happen though I do know Gary and Raj were very very card dead such were the frequency of the sighs and heavenward looks

Great work tighty. Junior you was spot on but there was a bit of meta game going on alsO.... Thought could have got the player to fold kings after helping him out of the shit once.  Hence leaving the building rather rapid to get back to watch boxing rather than engaging in some.  Live and learn. Live and learn.

It hasn't obv turned out that way but the amount of pressure the bigger stacks can put on the medium/short stacks is huge. Esp from the dialogue we're seeing at this final.

Then again their is a lot of money on the line and I spose they all felt better locking up the cash.

I deal when it's right for me. If I was 8th or 9th I would have snap accepted the deal however if I'm 1st or 2nd would never take a deal where it hinders me when trying to put the pressure on.

I will usually deal with people who have always been good to me. I won't deal with an odd few people and will play to take em out and before they even get out their seats snap offer a deal to the rest of the table. Love doing this coz the most annoying thing in the world to greedy people is a deal being done as soon as they get knocked out. ;)
