Title: WSOP Event # 12, $2,000 PL Omaha - Day Two
Post by: tikay on June 14, 2005, 11:42:44 PM
Of necessity, I spoke to Dave Colclough today & asked him not to bother updating us too much tonight, we want him to focus on the task in hand, which is a two-parter - 1), reach the Final, & 2), Win the bloody thing.

But news is filtering through from him already, & the latest I have - bear in mind that 18 returned today, & they play down to 9, is......

Casey Castle OUT 18th, $11,565.

More in a moment - two more texts just in from Dave. Fat lot of notice he takes of me then.

I am afraid I don't know who Awada is, I geuss it's a a typo. We'll excuse The Blonde One on this occasion....

NO. Only 2 count so you have a pair of aces with no straight or flush or trip chances.

AAKK with double suits.

iS PLO much more popular in Europe than the US? Should DC have an edge?

Title: Re: WSOP Event # 12, $2,000 PL Omaha - Day Two
Post by: tikay on June 15, 2005, 12:20:19 AM
I will answer that after I have done the latest in from Dave, which was....

"...Lost a couple of quick ones, including The Grinder, down to 13...."

When I first read that, I thought he meant he had lost a couple of pots, and had 13k, but on re-reading it - & I have reproduced his text word for word - it don't mean that.

13 left then!

Post by: tikay on June 15, 2005, 12:25:14 AM
To TightEnd's question now.

I have never played in America, so I don't really know, but my guess would be that the Americans probably consider themselves Omaha players, & the Europeans believe they are better Pot Limit players. What happens when you mix the two, I have no idea.

Should or does DC have an edge? Those that know DC will readily acknowledge that he is a modest guy, not given to trumpeting his abilities. But I can tell you he DOES consider he has an edge when playing Omaga against ANY player in the world. No need for false modesty, that's just the way he sees it. There you go.

It puzzles all of us, especially his opponents. But he thinks he has that edge.

In Hold Em, he thinks he has less of a edge, but an edge nonetheless. His results back that up, he has won a small fortune in Hold Em down the years, 2 big comps evey year, Player of the Year 2003 & on the way to repeat (he hopes) in 2005, plus whaever he has won in big cash games, of which he plays plenty.

I don't know about you, but I look and look at players like him & try to fathom what they do different to the rest of us. And I just dont know, excpet they clearly DO do it better. Guess if we all knew, we'd all be as good.

But he considers himself a better Omaha player than hold 'Em player
.
Now, another text in from the man himself......

So thanks to Robert who posted the Prize Structure for us, we can see Dave is now guaranteed a minimum $16,250.

But he needs to win the next pot he plays, it will be an all-in jobbie for sure, he is guaranted at least one caller, maybe 2 or 3. Still, that could be a treble or even quadruple up......

From cardplayer :-

David Colclough Doubles Up
Jim Bechtel raised, and David Colclough decided to move all in. Bechtel called and showed A-K-Q-J, while Colclough held A-A-9-2. The board brought no help for Bechtel and Colclough doubled up.

Mr Ironside, I'm interested why AAJT ds? what particular style of play?

AAKK ds is looking to make 1 of 2 sets or a flush

AAJTds has straightening chances as well as the flush JT rather than the KQ because it has more straight chances

AAKK ds is the prefered hand of the preflop players AAJT ds is a hand that players with post flop skill prefer

Thanks Sandy, and almost correct.

Entry $2,000

Immediate Rebuy before first hand is dealt - as all the others on the table did, he felt compelled to, $2,000

Double Add-on at Freeze, strategically compulsory, $4,000.

so the $8k is spot on.

Heres another from Dave, which raises a point I had not thought of, and am surprised wise old owl Karabiner did not bring to my attention......

"........10 minute break, to enable us to switch to a 10 handed table, blinds will go to 2k-4k....."

So thinking about it, as a semi short stack, he was struggling on a table of 5 or 6, whatever it was. But now they are 10 handed, I'd say that's a great advantage -or, rather, less of a disadvantage - to the short stacks.

Have forgotten the maths, but I think average is around 112k now.

Red, agree it's a no-brainer, but in the excitement, I had not given thought to the fact he was operating as a Bily Low Stack on a 5 or 6 handed table, & thus "move in time" was nearer than I realised. Knife edge, in fact.

This is how the final 10 are seated, and their chip counts.

1. Erik Seidel     - $99,000
2. Josh Arieh     - $276,000
3. Max Pescatori   - $85,000
4. Tony Sevnsom  - $65,000
5. Jim Bechtel     - $47,000
6. Ron Graham    - $136,000
7. Chris Ferguson  - $100,000
8. Doug Lee      - $132,000
9. Arturo Diaz     - $220,000
10.David Colclough - $54,000

From cardplayer again.

Looks like he could do with a double up and he'd be in with a shout.

Sandy

It seems the game in Vegas has gone super tight, it's the bubble from the TV table thing.

And as DC is a short stack, he dare not move exept in very late position, or else he's llikely to get a table full of callers.

Maybe he knows what he's doing.......

David Colclough Doubles Up

David Colclough just doubled up. Colclough was the only real short stack at the table and thanks to Arturo Diaz, he is not that short anymore. Diaz had a pair of eights, but Colclough had Kings, and was able to double through. Now, no player is in real danger anymore.

Woohoo.

Dave passes on his thanks to all you guys who have sweated him the last 2 days. I thanked him for texting us those updates, it's not every Pro that would do that, but he's not every pro, eh?

But we have a little problem tonight, in that as it's being recorded for television, Dave is not allowed to have his 'phone at the table.

So I have sent a text to a few mates in Vegas, asking if they can help us.

But if any of "our" guys read this, please ask around & see if you can find someone who is sweating Dave, & can send me texts.

We got Rob Yong, Nottingham Niick, Irish Denis, WSOPin05, and many others out there, so lets keep our fingers crossed.
