Thank you to bobalike and tikay who are funding this update, plus the usual direct debiters

Who will follow previous winners this season Peter MacAdam, Alan Mansbridge, Chaz Chattha and Praz Banzi?

I expect many blondes to be in the field attempting to do so

Coventry's Ricoh Arena

The casino attached is probably the most sumptuous in the UK. A real Vegas style and covers a huge floor space just to the side/underneath the football stadium

Here's the football stadium, with its usual crowd in

and the rather exciting pitchside rooms in the hotel part of the complex

You have to say, and you can see from the pics so far, a pretty strong line up for this early flight

Numbers lower than I would have hoped. No idea what the organisers hoped/expected

Tony "tikay" Kendall is living a charmed life

He raises A-K, and is flatted by Lee Taylor with A-A. Tony Kendall misses the flop, passes to the c-bet, and is shown the big pai

He then raises Q-Q. Peter Whitehouse flats with K-K and Tony Kendall check folds to a pot sized bet on A-K-3

Paul Romain down to 6,000

Most of it done in an interesting hand

Mansbridge limps UTG

Nicky Evans limps

Stephen Lovatt limps small blind

Romain in the big blind with A-A

Makes it 700

Only Lovatt calls

flop  Kh Qc 2s

Lovatt check raises to 2,000 on the flop, Romain calls

turn  Tc Romain calls 2,750

river  8c  Lovatt leads for 6,000

Romain is down to 3,000 if he calls, decides to fold thinking King-Queen, maybe a set. Unlikely to be A-J or a flush, but thinks he is behind

Lovatt shows him  4d  5c

Great work on the updates Tighty. Any chance of Tower getting some more Kendall-time on the TV. You know, we don't get enough of him in front of a camera, etc.

Cheers!

Julian Thew opens to 400 at 75-150 in the cut off

Stuart Rutter 1,100 on the button

Thew 2,700 4 bet

Rutter a big ponder, and eventually a slow and measured call

flop  Ahrt 6h 3s

Thew leads for 2,300

Rutter passes with a lopsided smile

Thew seems quite proud of himself and asks Stuart if he can "show the reporter"

Rutter agrees and I am shown  9s Js

Julian advises Stuart not to read the updates for a while

I'm currently on the toilet at home. Feeling very nervous. Can't wait to play in this big competition later. I hope I win.

keep that kinda stuff to yourself mate.

small ball poo?

Doesn't sound very small ball from where I am sitting ;)

Flush.

Enough of the backdoor puns!!

We didn't even get the 'floating' one in there... Sigh.

Brown is sharing a table with a now micro-stacked Tony Cascarino

I tap Tony on the shoulder and get a look that immediately tells me I have made a mistake redolent of a haphazard referee who has just booked Tony on his Old Den stomping grounds

"e-e-exc-u-u-u-se me, Mr Cascarino" I simper "did you lose a big pot?"

"No" comes the barked reply "lost every pot, haven't won one all day"

Paul Jackson opens

I have been hanging around the vicinity of the Burland/Trigg/Jackson table for its obvious potential

So far I've seen the three above take it in turns to win a series of small pots with just over min-raises pre and not much resistance pot

Anyway, Jackson opens to 325 at 75-150

Aaron Barry calls in the small blind

they check a  3s Ks 6h board

Barry check calls 400 on  Td

Barry check calls 700 on  Ahrt

Barry's  Qh Tc good as Jackson declares he has "nine high"

Ian Riggs 350 UTG

A call from Richard Sutcliffe

Steve Jelinek 1,150 on the button with Dem Aces

Mark Wastaff all in small blind 11,500 with Queens

Riggs folds playing 14,000. After the hand he insists he has folded Kings to general incredulity from the table

Anyway, Aces hold, Jelinek knocks out Wagstaff

Jelinek feels a bit hard done by. Now playing 27,000 he feels he was on for the treble up rather than just the double if Riggs indeed did have Kings

Blind on blind action

Frederick Russell limps, Alex Mah 650 in the big blind

Russell 2,000

I'm only watching and for me these are ringing, such is the snug play of Mr Russell today

Mah though sets Russell in and his chips are beaten to the middle

Russell  Qd Qs

Mah  Aspades 7s

Russell stands as the flop comes  3d 2d Ad

turn  6h

river  9d and he four flushes to double up

Russell is a sartorial fellow, his monogrammed cuffs read

"Love it when you call"

Day1b starts at 6pm, and we have a few hours of parallel running

I'll put up the initial list for Day 1b then concentrate on 1a again til the end of play, before switching focus across

Early indications are another 60 or so runners in 1b at this stage

If this is confirmed, then it has to be considered a disappointing total of runners, but we will see

Chip leader with over 50,000 is....Rick Trigg

As I was counting his stack I joined midway through a hand

With the board reading Q-10-7-Q Chris Kiefert bets 2,100 from the big blind

Trigg on the button calls

River double pairs the board, a 10

Kiefert checks, Trigg bets 3,500

Kiefert folds and Trigg shows A-A commenting "well I couldn't check back if I was saying I had the Q or 10 could I?"

Tony Kendall makes it 1,300 from 6,000 with K-Q

Allan McLean makes it 3,000

Kendall does not want to raise-fold from that stack, jams.....

McLean thinks and calls with A-4

flop A-4-3

turn 4

Tony Kendall out

A treble up when very short

A double through Priyan De Mel with 8-8 on 9-7-2, c-raising all in and De Mel calling with 3-3

A double through Carlo Citrone just now, I gather

Allan McLean 3 bets

Stuart Rutter in the big blind with Q-Q

Into the last level of the night on 1a

33 of 64 remain

Level 8 blinds 400-800-75

Average 29,100

In Level b currently 77 runners with entries still open for one more level

Therefore 141 runners total

I suppose 141 is "par". I'd be slightly disappointed, not sure what you feel about it?

- Cannes
- Poker Economy
- Lack of satellite qualifiers Online for this series
- Low spend local player market

are all factors I suppose

Williams calls him

Watching Rick Trigg play it really is virtuoso stuff

Yes he has a big stack, Yes he is reputedly running well

but man, can he use his stack

Two illustrations

Alex Mah opens to 2,175 at 400-800

Trigg 5,700 in position

Mah calls

flop

Jd 5c 7c

Mah chec folds to 7,400

Trigg tells him he can look at either and Mah flips  Ac.

Ac Ax or  Ac Kc then?

Caicau Huang raises, Trigg calls

2-7-7

Huang leads 3,200

Trigg min raise

Huang folds

Carlo Citrone raises to 1,900

Helena Brett calls in the big blind and

Donk lead-shoves 9,000 on A-K-10

Carlo finds a brave call with A-Q to beat K-9 and knock the Betfred Ladies Champion out

Title: Re: GUKPT Coventry Days 1a/1b
Post by: TightEnd on October 14, 2011, 09:04:47 PM
Nicholas Fellone 2,500

Rick Trigg calls on the button

Chris Kiefert calls in the big blind

flop  Kh Jh 2sis checked round

turn  8d

checked to Trigg who bets 4,225

Kiefer calls

river  7c

check

Trigg 6,900

Kiefer reluctantly passes

Trigg does his "you can look at one" Trigg

Kiefer flips Trigg's  Tc

In One Bee....

Claypole Conning out

"The worst two hours of my life" (what, it beats the journey up with the Sicilian?!)

an example

Early position limper

Lots of other limpers

Claypole  Ahrt 5h limps

Skalie raises to 450

3 callers, Claypole then peels

flop  2h 9h 3d

checked all the way to Skalie who bets half the pot

A raise to 4,000 from a middle limper and Claypole jams for 9,000

Skalie passes  Kh Qh

Caller has  9s 9d

Claypole turns  4c for the straight

The set of Nines doesn't reallise he is beat....and is anti-funking hearts

River 4 gives a full house to virtually bust Claypole

News coming of a huge overnight chip leader from 1a with over 150,000 (200x bb+)....

Some conjecture that this might be the biggest ever overninght GUKPT main event, though I am not sure

Angry Bird 2,825 on the button

Hulme folds

called (it was ever the case) by Sapiano

flop  Ks 8d 8h

Sapiano checks

Angry Bird 3,500 with 5,000 behind

The chips are splashed into the pot with such aggression that they literally roll in all directions, as if travelling down a chip helter skelter to their destination

Sapiano check raises to set her in

Angry bird stands and asks quite an odd question

"Have you got pocket eights?"

Um, probably not Ms Bird

Anyway she calls,

with  9h 9d

Albert has flopped himself to contentment with  Kc Jc, holds on the Qs 2h river and doubles through leaving the bird angrier, shorterstacked and less than philosophical about her opponent's play

Played the 300 side with this lady. She min-raised UTG to 3200 with AJ... folds round to the BB who jams 11k and insta-flips his K8o. She sits and tanks the decision (even though K8 has his cards face up) for about 4 minutes before making the call, saying she was 'working our her pot odds'. Highly comical.

David Jones raises, Mary Brown calls

I was trying to think of a lookalike for Mary, who is a hybrid of Hyacinth Bucket and Kathy Burke, but got fed up

Anyway Pete the Eeel Gardnier makes a big raise on the button

Jones passes, Brown calls

flop A-x-x

Brown motions to her chips as if to bet, but thinks better of it. Checks

Gardiner either misses this or ignores it. Shoves J-J

Brown says "I had better call" With A-A for top set.

A nice ruling post to spice things up

The floor, in the shape of Henry the TD, is called over after Tony Barnes announces "raise" out of turn from the small blind

Maggie Sheridan has bet 300 on a 9-8-3 flop, two diamonds and the button is yet to speak, Tony in the small blind verbally announces

The ruling is that Tony must raise and post the minimum 600 and can only call or fold any further action above that for that round of betting.

The button folds and Maggie calls the extra 300.

An Ace on the turn and checked to Maggie who bets 600; Tony calls.

A King on the river and again Maggie bets 600; Nothing like good bet sizing and this is nothing like good bet sizing.

Tony calls and Maggie shows AK to take it down

"You're lucky you didn't raise more!"  says ther triumphant Sheridan

"You wouldn't have called if I had" from Barnes.

Jamie O'Connor is hoist by his own petard

By his own admittance playing "manically aggressive" today he has raised six hands on the trot, raise-folding several

Immediately finds K-K thereafter and raises to 700

Scandie Paul Vasnunes makes it 2,900 on the button

O'Connor ships 29,000

Jamie O'Connor is hoist by his own petard

By his own admittance playing "manically aggressive" today he has raised six hands on the trot, raise-folding several

Immediately finds K-K thereafter and raises to 700

Scandie Paul Vasnunes makes it 2,900 on the button

O'Connor ships 29,000

Vasnunes calls for his stack bar a few thousand with A-10

Ace on the turn knocks O'Connor out

Me and Nicky Evans have a very important bet on, my side being that I think Trigg's 151,000 is the highest ever stack taken into day two of a GUKPT.

Does anyone has the info to confirm either way?

Bet is that the loser has to buy all the other's drinks on a night out. If I'm wrong about my line, I'll be happy to have tricked Nicky into thinking that is an "even money" bet.

Marvellous....when did the VIP tickets get given out? I was virtually one of the last ones to leave the tables and I didnt see any being distributed. Grrr!!

Where are the "normal" car parks then? Because according to the Ricoh website, and i quote:

"Matchday Parking

People should be aware that there is NO parking available in side streets near the venue. A strict residents' parking scheme will be enforced within two kms of the Ricoh Arena as part of the venue's green travel plan.

Spaces in Car Park B are available at £10 per space.

Spaces in Car Park C are available at £10 per space.

Bookings will need to be received at least a week in advance of the particular matc
h. "

I've parked in the 'other' car parks for gigs at the Ricoh and they are about a mile from the ground. Also don't go to gigs at the Ricoh, not a great venue unfortunately.

If you can't get a vip ticket (and I'd call them about this), I'd be tempted to park a good distance away and then get a taxi in. That's if you can't get there early.

I tend to go for Car park B or C for Day 2's

Day 1's I mix it up a bit more

At the G Luton I just use the main car park but sometimes go over the road if it's full which is a bind, but weirdly, closer to the main entrance. Go figure !

there is a ticket for you, they were handed out last night

the car park is free for players

Me and Nicky Evans have a very important bet on, my side being that I think Trigg's 151,000 is the highest ever stack taken into day two of a GUKPT.

Does anyone has the info to confirm either way?

Bet is that the loser has to buy all the other's drinks on a night out. If I'm wrong about my line, I'll be happy to have tricked Nicky into thinking that is an "even money" bet.

How did I miss out on this coup? Pretty sure Goodwin had 200k when he won Manchester, played one more level then but also started with 10k not 15....
