Title: Going Bareback means what.......
Post by: Dingdell on December 13, 2011, 05:04:12 PM
Hi - for those of you who don't know i am dabbling in a bit of comedy at the moment and am picking up a few gigs at the moment. One of the rules of comedy is that whatever you say the audience should be able to reference/know what you are referring to straight away so I need to know if going bareback is a normal everyday phrase or is just normal to me....

Thanks.

;-)

Everyone under 30 for sure knows.

Assume most 30-45 know too.

50-80 unlikely

80 - tikay. Not a chance

All depends on context for me.

I've been in fields with girls and I've been in fields with horses.

I know what it means - and I'm not referring to horses.

Just adjusting my post which also reference context, although not quite as cleverly as Red-Dog's  :respect:

If you're discussing sex then the context is obvious, as it is if you're discussing horse-riding. But if you were discussing Catherine the Great, or Equus...

Age ranges a bit wide in Greekstein's post too - 50-80 encompasses a huge swathe of different experiences and cultural upbringing.

I'd say
50-60 likely to get it
61+ less likely

Depends on the context, but on stage I would know exactly what you mean.

Never know who will be there until you get there - that's the problem but as it's a comedy night I assume they don't need walking frames so not in Tikays age group :-)

Bizarely were still there when I went in this am. Thought they had gone but they were just having a lie in. Gone now though for sure. That is turning into 2 mins on squirrels and being comfortable and being a lesbian (I'm not by the way)  - I love the way the brain can twist and turn  ;D

Hopefully doing a competition in St Albans Jan 2nd if anyone wants to turn up and support me all gratefully received. Ta.

So, umm, does "bareback" have some sort of juvenile "double intendre" meaning, is it a euphamism, & if so, for what? Serious question.

Whoops, just seen the "Poll".

Voted "don't know", even though I do now.

PS - Jeez, I'm the only "never heard the phrase". (In it's sexual context, that is).

FFS, 57 voted, & I was the only one who had never heard of it.

Must get out more. Or maybe not.

PS - Good luck tonight. Take plenty of green cards with you, right?

Knock 'em dead!

Chompy seems to be enjoying himself - Evilpie less so, though that may just be because he's thirsty.

Damm - wish I'd seen ths earlier - didn't realise what I'd said....sigh.

So gig went ok  I think - waiting for the tapes to go up on facebook then I can have a proper look at what they did and didn't laugh at. really tough room as it was a wine bar and people were there to have a night out and had not gone there to watch comedy. Baptism of fire but I think it was ok for a newbie.

Surprised at things I thought they would laugh at but they didnt - seemed much funnier in my head. So I took the easy way out and swore which gets a laugh as its so unexpected from me (obv they dont know me). One bloke came up to me afterwards and said admiringly "You were really dirty up there" which goes to show that in Sutton saying fu%%ing is really hardcore.

I put in a new bit about pubic hair which I think went down really well - well the girls at the front were creasing up - but they were completely slaughtered. Disappointed that the heckler decided to give me a wide berth - I had a killer line all ready for him.

Another poll about A and O levels imminent - please vote and let me know what you think.

Tnks

Where's the St Albans venue pls

Last year it was Funny First Mondays who do their gigs at the town hall but not sure if it's them or not in January. Still waiting to hear if I've got in for that night or not. Not looking good if I haven't heard yet - I put St Albans as first choice just because I thought the demographic might be better for me.

Lots of bareback riders who have passed their O & A levels?
