Dublin, January 6, 2012 – The first ever World Poker Tour event on Irish soil got under way yesterday at Dublin’s CityWest hotel. The €2,500 buy-in main event, sponsored by next-gen poker room PKR, attracted a field of 338 players from around the world including WSOP, WPT and EPT champions. The four-day tournament will reach its conclusion on Sunday night, when one player will walk away with €222,280 including a $25,500 seat for the 2012 WPT® World Championship at Bellagio, Las Vegas and a WPT title.

 
Notable participants included Sam Trickett, Praz Bansi, Toby Lewis, James Dempsey, Sam El Sayed, Barny Boatman, Marvin Rettenmaier and the female pros Leo Margets, Tatjana Pasalic and Kara Scott, along with a trio of World Series of Poker Main Event finalists - James Akenhead, Jon Kalmar and Irish legend Andy Black. Former World Snooker Champion Ken Doherty is also still in the hunt for his first major poker title.

In second place in the inaugral WPT Ireland, behind David Nicholson, finsihed a Mr David Shallow. He is an enthusiastic poster on blonderpoker.com, where he is known to friends as "Dubai." He now lives in Brighton, and is an online grinder, who sometimes dabbles in live poker. He is believed to have learnt his craft from good friend and poker phenomenom James Dempsey.

Took a break for the birth of his son and is back as if nothing has changed. Shared a table with him a couple of weeks back and he was saying we are gonna be seeing even more of him now. The man tops my top 3 players and a great guy.

If the crab wins this outright, I may have a crab tattoo lol

I must be a clown, because I thought this was true! But he's just texted to say he's trebled up!

He made what these young kids call a "squeeze play" with a pair of pocket twos, and won against two players, both holding ace-king.

Robert Bruil open shoves for 200,000 in late position and Stuart Fox calls on the button. Bruil turns over 9 8 and Fox once again has those pocket kings. The flop of T 8 3 gives Bruil some hope and the turn A means that Fox needs to dodge one more card to eliminate Bruil.

It was a blind on blind battle that resulted in the demise of Charles Harvey. The action folds around to him in the small blind and he moves all-in for about 250,000 and Dave Shallow makes the call in the big blind.

At the moment the only thing fast about the preliminary final table is Dave Shallow. He seems to have picked up on everybody's willingness to play like statues and has decided to up the pace.
 
Shaun Conning raises to 65,000 in the cutoff and Patrik Vestlin three-bets to 150,000 on the button. Charles Chattha folds the small blind before Dave Shallow moves in with a 310,000 four-bet. Conning and Vestlin both fold their hands quite quickly.

He started the day as the unassailable chip leader, and despite doubling up Patrik Vestlin, Ronan Gilligan and Chaz Chattha that chip lead meant all the difference. He has just been crowned the inaugural WPT Irish champion in a cooler of a heads up hand.

I'd never played with Dave until this weekend - and obv watched final yesterday as well as a few hours on Saturday - just so impressive, learned a lot just watching him and absolutely delighted for him. Top bloke, top result - wish he'd play live more and sell pieces lol

hilariously as everyone around him was lapping the occasion up dave was on monster tilt with everyone for the whole of day 3 lol

whole weekend was sick, WPT ran it pretty well, lots of hero's about and some genuinely lovely people, the final 5 players were all top, top blokes wouldn't have begrudged any of them winning it.

Obvs delighted with the result though, I have a lot of time for Chaz he's a super guy but not sure he would have thrown the same kinda of party last night if he'd won :D
