Title: such a proud DAD
Post by: leethefish on March 11, 2012, 04:55:35 PM
my daughter Jade (13)

played her first proper football match today!

she has trained with the future foxes ....EX Leicester players Steve Walsh and Muzzy Izzet ...which is just training (no matches) but she was too shy to join a team.

Wednesday took her training with a local team OADBY OWLS and again yesterday ...she got on really well and they asked her to play today

she played, they lost 3-2 but she done really well and loved it !

Ship her into the first team after the way we have played this week!! I'm pretty sure 11 13 year old girls would put up a better fight.

Good luck to young Tighty,

Here's my little one in his Sunday best.. Amar'e (yes my son has an apostrophe in his name) will grow up in a paperless world, he will never experience things like the Video tape, Loading computer games, Betamax, Fax machines, 4 channels on TV, The Royal Mail (will be obsolete in 10 years) and the Dial up internet connection (Remember the annoying sound it used to make) He'll grow up in a world that is tech savvy, brave and forgiving

What I'd give to relive my youth again, I actually miss Shoveling snow in the winter, raking leaves in the Fall and mowing lawns in the summer for money.  I remember being 14 and breaking my arm while competitively sliding across a frozen lake in Alley Pond Park it took 2 whole months to heal and you know what, I did the same thing with my friends the next year and Broke my collar bone this time... This may sound crazy to some but to me it was the sense of danger that made it all worthwhile and if I could do it again I would...

I only hope Amar'e isn't as reckless as I was in my youth, as I remember my uncle pulling his hair out trying to contain me..

All the best to Jade and Young Tighty... It's a brave new world and they're at the forefront ...

Thanks Guys..

Smashedegain  - Such a great picture, Alister and the Twins look like they're having whale of a time. Best Ad for Thomasland ever.. Makes me want to take Amar'e

Leethefish - The changes in the world will be immense, remember in 1999 things like social networking hadn't even been heard of, household names such as Facebook, Groupon and Twitter hadn't even been imagined.. Companies & Currencies that are part of our daily lives like the Euro, Google and Family guy (love the show) had just been introduced..

While China were trying to restrict the internet access, North Korea was taking away freedom of speech.. Tyrants such as Saddam, Gadhafi and Kim Jong were leading their countries with iron fists while pillaging everything they could.

If the last 13 years are anything to go by 2025 will be an interesting time to be alive...

The hair dresser charges by the inch so can't afford one lol. Jakey's actually started curling in ringlets at the side like those young Jewish lads have.

Meant to ask you. Do lads you sons age have to stop on at school until 18 if they don't have a job. I thought I heard somewhere that the leaving age is going up from 16

I would love to share a table with bang bang. Spending a few just chatting about the good Old days

Parents evening for my son this Wednesday, I'll remain optimistic until then, where I hope to also be a proud Dad!  ;pokergods;

Of course messing around, and only today while he was getting appointment for the day, he was told by his English Teacher, that he was a "talented boy and been spotted for his future potential in the subject".  That he was a very polite young man too.

Not to be out done, my 7 year old daughter got told on Saturday that she will be moved up a group in her tennis lessons! downer is that the high gropu starts at 9am!

Proud Dads - great thread.

Parents evening was just perfect!

A bit chatty sometimes was the general feel across the subjects but minor point.

English- always been a passion of his, and quite natural to him. He is in year 7 and we got told today that he is it GCSe grade B already!

Very proud Dad

Omg. Bad parent confession. Kids got sun burnt ears up in Berwick on the beach. We were in a cove that was a right little sun trap.  It felt like 12 degrees on the cliff top but down on the beach the kids were in the sea

Amar'e is now 10lbs, saying that his birth weight (6 weeks ago) was 6lbs6oz I'm really pleased.. He's also started holding his head up himself and is always smiling.. Seriously after a long stressful day there's nothing better then coming home to Curly and Amar'e, home cooked food from a loving beautiful lady and smiles from my son, who's like a ray of light for me.....

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there...

proud mum gate-crashing the thread.  just seen Hannah's school report for this year (year 4).  She's always done well at school, but her progress this year has been amazing.  Coming out of year 3 the only area she had to work on a little was her imaginative writing, as she seemed to lack confidence.  This year she has finished attaining the expected standard in reading and writing for pupils finishing year 6, and her teacher has commented over the course of the year that she really is showing amazing talent in that area - I have to say some of the stuff she writes just puts my own prose to shame.

Bursting with pride!

Teacher's summary:

"Hannah is one of the hardest-working children and such a pleasure to teach! It has been so exciting to see both her academic work reach such high standards and also to witness her self-confidence grow.  Her writing ability has obviously been the greatest achievement this year, but her successes are also in other areas - a budding artist, musical gifts, much more confident in Maths and a logical thinker in Science.  It will be very interesting to see which direction Hannah will take in future days - will she follow her writing talents and creative ability? An excellent year for Hannah, keep up all the hard work Hannah, you do most certainly deserve every success" :)

Jake's first ever school report arrived home today.

21 A's and 5 B's.

Every subject he got A for effort!

In her final comments his teacher said "Thank you Jake for making the last 2 years so enjoyable"

Pretty proud with all that!

It's my first night at home for a week as my lad had major bowel surgery on Monday, and its only now he's feeling reasonably ok to be left a while. Hopefully out in a few days

Anyway, after the eight hour op he's wheeled into the recovery unit where his Mum and I are waiting

After 20 minutes or so he is half awake and groggy. He turns to me and says, his first words..

"Sorry Dad, I'm not going to be very good company"

Not sure I can adequadely describe the emotions, but "Proud" can cover it

My 12 year old lad on completion of his first year in secondary school earned the following 2 awards from his year class mates and his teachers.

Most likely to be Prime Minister
and
Most likely to be a millionaire

Not sure if the first is one to proud of at the moment lol.

Plus his school have predicted to get A* in Maths, English and History

No pressure there then.

Today Lewis had his first fight in a rugby match ......

It was a very competitive close match and the big lad pictured to the left of Lewis was ....lets say aggressive towards the smaller kids!
He kept throwing the smaller boys by the neck (very dangerous obviously) out the way
So Lewis took him down ..the lad decided to punch Lewis In the stomach and Lewis retaliated !!

Good lad ...that's my boy moment .....

It all ended with them shaking hands after the match when the ref took the two boys together in the middle

Tosser. That is all.

That reminds me, one night coming home from work at about midnight I went upstairs to find my 4 year old daughter lying with my wife in our bed. She was feeling sick and had a tupperware bowl next to her head on the bedside table just incase she was going to throw up. She lay there quietly listening to me and the wife having a chat about how our days had been. The wife started to confess that she somehow managed to scratch the front bumper on the car but she hadn't a clue how she'd done it. As I started to smirk it dawned on her that it was actually me who'd done the damage a few days before. At this point the wife strated to playfully hit me.

My daughter pipes up and asks her mom if she could hit me too. 'Yes' the wife replied so my daughter picked up the tupperware bowl and whacked me over the head and called me a Tosser.

I nearly pissed myself laughing.

Lewis played his first game this year yesterday ...due to the weather and other things the matches had been cancelled !

I know I am biased but he played out of his skin ....For a nine year old boy he was just awesome.

I was/am so proud he put in 100% when it was pissing it down with rain..
the ref spoke to our coach and said pointing to Lewis "that lads got a good future in this game he's plying with such skill and aggression what's his name "

That's Lewis the coach replied Lee's lad .......so so proud!!

VERY PROUD DAD :)

After a successful season playing in the BCLFC Under 11's, Holly has just been awarded a contract for the Under 13's squad for next season.

I am so proud of her :)

terrific

no need to answer if its tricky, but in the Ladies game what does a youth contract look like?

what does it specify and what does it commit your daughter to?

(my lad is at Luton, and currently deciding not to give up sixth form to do a youth contract at 16-17yo, with part-time schooling. His choice)

To be honest I didn't read the contract! However, at this age there is certainly no requirement for time out of school. It's just training for 4-5 hours per week (2 evenings), matches at the weekend and following a physical fitness programme. There is also a requirement that she cannot play for any other teams.

well done! you must be very proud indeed. Womens footy is such an excellent sport to get into, my wife played for 20 years and it took her around the globe, paid for her education, made he a real team player in life and opened up so many opportinies for her. Lets hope she enjoys it half as much as my wife did.

haven't been on this thread in a while and just catching up on the last few months worth - great stuff, congrats to all!

time for my own mummy brag now!

As I think I've probably mentioned before, my ten year old, Hannah, has a real talent for writing, which she loves. Stories are her main thing, but recently pupils from her school took part in a national poetry competition for young writers. Hannah's was among those entries chosen as winners for inclusion in a collection of poems to be published in the Summer.  Super proud :)

Agreed - very good!

I had another proud Mum moment this week - to go with the two poems she's already had published, Hannah found out this week that she is one of the winners in a short-story competition that was run by the local council for all the primary schools in the borough. Her story will be published in a book that will go to all the local schools and libraries, and she'll also receive a prize of a kindle.

As her very proud dad said to me after she told us - 'she's amazing' :)

Thanks - i'm more proud I suppose that she has a talent that she thorougly enjoys using and, if she works hard and gets the right breaks, could well end up making a career out of it. I don't have a creative bone in my body so she's not got it from me, but I play my part through the things I can do - lots of love, praise and encouragement :)

Not actually seen the story myself yet, but may post when I have.

good stuff.

Can not put in to words what a great decision it was for me to play union as a kid, grew up 10 fold.

Played football until i was 11/12 and wanted a change after getting left on the bench to have managers sons/coaches sons play ahead of me even though they weren't as good (not bitter at all). I used to play up front and my strike partner scored 4/5* the amount of goals i scored in a season but i would assist about 80% of his. Whenever i did not play he kicked up a fuss but the managers did not seem to get it anyway.....

After football i went to play league (growing up in warrington thats what my mates played) also we had about 3/4 league clubs within 10 minutes and the nearest union was a good 15 minutes away but the club my dad eventually took me to was 25 minutes away. Anyway i played league for about 3 months and decided i didnt like it. I enjoyed the game but it was to similar to football, the way the parents were the way the kids were treated etc etc.

So i went to play union and thinking back to it now it was a huge commitment from my dad every sunday he gave up a good 4/5 hours, bet he was relieved when i started to drive!! Rugby union taught me loads of things but the biggest aspect I will take through with me for the rest of my life is respect. I learnt to respect my coaches, my team mates and most importantly the officials. These people gave up their time (admittedly they got paid but we all know thats not the reason most of them do it). Whenever i played sport in school (rugby league school) i took that respect with me, you can imagine the dismay when i fouled a player in football and the ref came over and i responded with "sorry sir" etc footballers never understood!

The other point i mentioned above is friendship, my friends from rugby are like no other if we see each other now its like no time has passed since we last met. Going on rugby tour, digging your mate out of the bottom of a ruck and celebrating wins with them nothing like it. Always going for a drink and food after a game all these little things meant so much and they are memories ill never forget!

I hope your lad enjoys it as much as I did i hope he gets involved on and off the pitch (and i hope you do to my dad used to love rugby tours!!!)

Lewis has played rugby since he was 6-7 he played tag first then moved up to contact
Last season he was with another club but at the end of the season they never had a presentation night we decided then we would find another club.
We try one but he couldn't get on and didn't mix very well
So we left it a while
Then half way through the season we tried Oadby wigstonians and never looked back !

He went on tour with them (I was invited but couldn't go)
And he loved that as well !

So it was a big shock that he got players player only being there for half a season
I so wish I played the game
The closest I got to rugby was with a water bottle in the army !

Shocking photo (better one on it's way), but my lad, Joe and his team played in a residential football tournament this weekend at Butlins Skegness.
It was a huge step up in class, facing the likes of a regional Arsenal academy and a Walsdon Boys Club team, amongst others.
Chalked up a win and a couple of draws against lads who could well go on to be professionals at one level or another.

The weekend was capped off by an glitzy awards ceremony in front of over a 1000 people and receiving a trophy from none other than Ian Rush.

Joe is second row, second from right.
Squint and you can see Rushy is top right :)
Lady footballer is Sue Smith

My 15 yo lad just finished his first year doing GCSEs, school report on all subjects was outstanding in both effort he puts in and results he gets out. Out of 10 subjects the school are expecting 6 A* and 4 A. Coupled with his willing to devour all subjects and his helpful nature (he does the gardening for me and the dishwasher for the wife :) ) I don't think I could be more proud.

Great thread.

Love watching my kids play sport even if they are not always great at it, but its important for them to be getting outside etc in this day and age with all gadgets and tv channels.

On sunday will be watching my daughter play some fun cricket at the women's ashes match at Worcester. Great deal where she gets to play in a mini competition during the break and we get free tickets for the game. Only started playing this season but enjoys it.

Watching her going out to face a under twelve team (she is 10) who had already put one of our team on the way to hospital was a bit scary, but she seemed quite happy. (she was caught out first ball, but at least she went for the shot!)

You are completely right and as they get older it means I don't need to let them win when we play games, although maybe starting to do a lap of honour when I won a netball shooting match against my two kids and father in law was a bit OTT.

My youngest son achieved 4 A*, 4 A and 1 B in his GCSE exams. You know those kids that can just sail through exams with the minimum of prep and just wing it on natural ability - well he isn't one of those. He worked damn hard to get those results and it was 100% self-driven. He has a work ethic that puts many, including me, to shame.

My 17 year old has Aspergers, and its been A Level year

Not the easiest time for the family, with a few things going on and he always had a lot of challenges at school particularly in non-technical subjects...english, history etc where writing essays was a real problem

Anyway, he took all his A Levels mostly via coursework with dispensation because sitting in exams was so difficult

As we all know A Level results came out in early August. He was away at the time and so didn't go and get them

We expected them to be sent through the post and waited

and waited

eventually i rang up and asked for them to be sent through, only for the school to tell me they didn't send them out, they needed to be picked up in person and not by a parent/friend unless it came with written permission from the student

ok. not as easy as it sounds for us. getting written permission wouldn't be easy

a couple of weeks passed

"have you gone to get your results yet?"

"no"

repeat every few days until i'm told down the phone

"dad, i don't want to go and get them, what if i have failed?"

i told him, quite genuinely, that i didn't care if he failed. whatever happens life goes on and doesn't have to affect what he wants to do with his life. Not important in the big picture but you need to get the results to see what your options are

Yesterday, about a month after the results come out, the phone call comes

"Dad I went to get my results"

Pause

"Chemistry B Physics B IT A"

I pulled myself together long enough to tell him i was proud of him.

He's working on an IT apprenticeship for a scientific labs company on the Millbrook test track complex for now and can come off probation now he's got the results.

Daughter (10) just got her dance results (tap and Jazz) today and got a merit and commendation. She does not have a natural build for a dancer (has my lack of flexibility) so had to work hard for these.

As a treat for passing she is making a Chocolate cake Happy days indeed. Will make up for Son's football team (minus son as he was at cub camp) losing their first game of the season and me getting soaked into the bargain.

GCSE results day made me proud for different reasons and of much lower results than those incred ones posted above.

My daughter started secondary school at a selective grammar school and by year 9 any individual teacher would have predicted her As or Bs. However, she struggled greatly with numerous mental health issues and continues to do so. There's been lengthy stays in hospital for an eating disorder and multiple self harm/suicide attempts and the last two years of schooling were at a hospital school rather than her grammar school.

She ended up with 4 Cs including her maths and English, a couple of Ds and a couple of BTech level 2s which just about get her over the line to get into college next month for a fresh start. She's carrying a lot of physical scars and the emotional trauma she and the whole family has endured over the last five years have left invisible scars that run deep. But to even complete the exams, let alone pass them is a big achievement for her and I am very proud of her for fighting the urges she had to check out completely.

Hopefully college life and a digital media course (something she's really interests in) will suit her better and allow her to blossom as a young woman.

If she could see herself like the beautiful, intelligent, funny and charming young woman the rest of us saw, she'd be fine, but that's the nature of the illness unfortunately.

I'm sure a few months at college, some new friends and some interest from boys will help her no end.

Have never contributed before but this is one of my favourite threads on blonde, proper feel good stuff.

My 14 month old daughter Aoife (point for proper pronunciation) was born with a hip condition called hip dysplasia which meant that both of her hips were dislocated as her hip joints hadn't formed properly in the womb. At 17 days old she had to go into a soft harness which kept her legs in a fixed position for 23 hours a day and she remained in the harness for 6 month, at which point the docs were content the joints were trending in the right direction.. The doctors told us to expect her crawling and walking to be a bit delayed due to this. In spite of their warnings, at 10 months we had a baby who was walking of her own free will, long before some of her NCT peers.

Today myself, the wife and the little'un trundled up to the hospital for Aoife's first annual check up. Thankfully the docs have said her hips are now completely akin to the average child of her age and they were quite amazed at the speed of her development. She's a determined little thing and the smiliest child you could wish to encounter and tonight I am feeling very proud of her.

A Level results day. My youngest son has spent the last few weeks worrying that he wouldn't get the grades needed for Uni - he's not naturally gifted but works harder than anyone I know.

ABB and he's off to Nottingham Uni.

Wow, many congrats, must be nice.

Apologies for drifting off topic, but how is your recovery going? May be better to reply on my Diary, rather than upset all the proud Dad's.

Reply here please. If you reply on Tony's diary I might skim past it.

My 18yo son finished his first year at Nottingham Uni. In an hour or so he'll land in Manilla, get on a plane to Sydney and then a two hour train journey before arriving in Newcastle NSW where he'll spend the next five months studying at the Uni there.

When I was his age a day trip to London was an adventure. Missing him already.

Can't remember if I mentioned my eldest son on here before, wanted to do medicine but didn't get in so did Maths at Edinburgh instead. Found it a real struggle, ended up retaking his second year and this summer made the tough decision that he wasn't going to pass and dropped out. He had a huge number of rejections due to the failure but persevered and recently got a job with a FTSE100 company as a trainee risk & compliance analyst and is like a dog with two tails.

Son #2 is on track for a 1st class degree next summer and yesterday was offered a graduate trainee job by Centrica.

Good for them, and all credit to you too. None of it is easy or simple is it?

I'm officially the old bloke at work (not sure how, I'm still 18 in my head) and often get the comments from those with toddlers/tweens/teenagers that it must be so much easier with a 23 and 20yo.

Nope, the problems just get bigger and usually more expensive.
