Title: THE Aintree Tipster Competition
Post by: MereNovice on April 09, 2012, 12:02:23 PM
*** Breaking News ***
A free "Super 50" Seat at DTD has been added to the prize pool.
See the post by tikay on page 3 of this thread for details.

I am pleased to announce this year's Blonde Aintree Tipster Competition.

The rules are as follows:

1. Entry is open to everyone upon payment of a £25 entry fee to me. I will PM my bank details to everyone who has expressed even a remote interest (see next post). Payment must be received by me before 1pm on Thursday 12th April. If you are interested, please indicate below or PM me. Each person may enter up to a maximum of two times. Each entry costs £25.

2. The competition will be run over the 21 races from Thursday 12th April to Saturday 14th April 2012.

3. Each entrant will pick one horse per race. The selection must either be for a £2 win or a £1 each-way bet. Winnings will be settled on the basis of Starting Prices.
If you fail to make a selection or select a non-runner it will be counted as a £2 win bet on the favourite (lowest racecard number if there are joint/co favourites).

4. The place component of an each-way bet will be decided using the following criteria:
1/4 the odds for a place for each horse officially returned on the results for each race on www.gg.com

5. I will be using www.gg.com for the purpose of deciding the result of each race.

6. Entries must be sent to me via PM by 1pm on the day of the races. I will then make everyone's selections available via a spreadsheet to which I will post a link on this thread by 1:30pm that day.

7. The winner will be the person who makes most profit (or least loss) over the course of the festival.

8. My decision is final in all matters (until proven otherwise).

The payout structure will be as follows:

1-10 entrants
1st 100%

11-20 entrants
1st 75%
2nd 25%

21-30 entrants
1st  60%
2nd 30%
3rd 10%

>30 entrants
tba

Have fun.

Some good news, I think.

A DTD "Super 50" seat has been added by DTD, & will be given to the winner.

Thinking on my feet, the Seat will be given on this basis.....

1) The winners gets the free "Super 50" Seat at DTD.

2) If he or she cannot play it, or prefers to donate it to another entrant of the Aintree Tips Comp, they are free so to do. If nobody who entered is available, they may offer it to anyone who is a Member of both blonde & DTD. However, with the seat goes the same condition, which is that.....

3) 50% of any cash in the DTD Super 50 gets donated, equally, to ALL Entrants of the Aintree Tipsters Comp. Trust? We just have to trust the winner to comply. If they don't, the debt is not enforceable.

4) Up to TWO Entries in the "Aintree Tipsters Comp" are permitted, but if the winner cashes in the Super 50, those with "two entries" will ONLY get one slice of the cake, exactly as all single entries get. AFAIK, this will only affect two entrants so far, being bobby1 & myself.

Beyond that, MereNovice will be the adjudicator in all matters with regard to this, & commonsense applies.

Big thanks to DTD for this, well done them.

PS - Don't forget, the Rules for the original Compeition are in the OP of this thread, & that Entries must be made for each day by 1pm that day LATEST.

Morning Phil.

"Super £50" is a regular Tournament at DTD, Entry fee for which is, obviously, umm, £58. The DTD Tourneys are all branded, & "Super 50" is one of those.

Perhaps I should have described it as the "Super 58", though it does not have quite the same ring to it.

I have precisely the same problem here, Ralph, & I posted as such on the Mods Board, but apparently none of the other Mods have had similar issues.

The Forum is currently almost unuseable for me, I've been trying to Post stuff since 5am! I'm worried, obviously, because of today's very important Live Update, amongst other things.

How many did we have for Chelts? sure it was like 25 or so. Not been enough spam for this comp imo.

There were 29 for the Cheltenham competition.
Spamming is not my greatest strength - I don't have the network of "friends" that some people have.
The field for this is about the same as for The Masters.
The format may be getting a little tired but I'm not very creative so I need people to come up with ideas for future competitions on http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=57154.0

i suspect £25 is alot for the casual person who knows nish about horses..me included..

Understood.

If you have any ideas for other competitions and recommended buy-ins, I'm happy to run anything that enough people are interested in.
Please post on http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=57154.0

If you had it £5-£10 i am guessing 30+ entries easily..not everyone high roller :)

Fair comment Acid, we'll try & bear that in mind in future. It's hard to get these things "just so".

I did "promote it" on GPC, and then got the DTD Added Value, but I can only do so much of that Milly, or the lurkers get on my case. Others are free to spam it, though!

Onwards & upwards, good luck to all in this, & we will try & find something for all pockets next time.

It was within the rules but, without wishing to show favouritism, I'm sure that our tipsters are good enough to beat that "strategy".

I'd guess that it factored into the thinking.
People who pick a good priced winner shouldn't have to worry about it.
Also, other people will be able to devise their Saturday strategy to combat it.

I am reminded by MereSweepingUp that the winner ALSO wins a seat for the DTD Super 50 on a date of his choosing. He can, if he wishes, pass it on to another blonde.

However, 50% of ANY cash is returned, equally, to all those who entered this Tipsters Comp, as announced earlier in the thread. However, "multi-entries" only get ONE share of any cashes.

So, now we need Simon G, or his deputed player, to go win that for us.

Dont forget you have a free DTD "Super50" entry, Simon. If run as well in that as you did in this, you'll win that, too......

OK, normally I would ask someone else to play it.  BUT - given the kind gesture by DTD (and even moreso the cringeworthy fact that I have yet to step foot inside the place  ;ashamed; ) it would be quite churlish to not do the proper thing here, so I am definitely getting out of my rocking chair and going to play it  (I can hear the collective sigh of all the other entrants kissing their % goodbye)

So, if I could tee up a little bit of DTD spam here, when is the Super50 held, what do I need to do to claim the seat, do I need to join (have I already joined?) is it 1-dayer, anything else I need to know and I will play the next time I can slot it.

Thanks to Vince for organising.

You have never been to DTD? Incredible - it's different class, Simon, completely different class to anything I've ever seen anywhere. I used to think only Vegas rooms beat it, now, "it's close".

The next Super 50 is April 29th, see.....

Normally I reserve judgment until after I experience something for myself, but I have never heard anyone say anything to the contrary, pretty sure they must all be right.

OK April 29th it is, feel free to (anti)rail and throw general insults etc.  It would be a bit awkward if I got KO'd, re-entered and copped it.  So, to avoid that and to keep the spirit and morale high (copyright Lildave) everyone will also have their % rolled over into any re-entries.

GL us.

Simon Galloway's Free Entry has been sorted by Nick Whiten at DTD, & Simon will be playing THIS Sunday, 29th April.

As you know, all of us who entered the Staking Competition have a share of Simon, so that's the good news.

The bad news is that he is shite.

Got to Dtd, thought  you may as well have a TR.....

Car park... good. Reception... good. Guinness...good.  valet, good. Lose a few hundred at roulette.... not good. Switch tables, get dealt to without a single word spoken ....really not good. Whilst I'd normally have a chase, I'm not doing it to a dealer that won't speak. Ever.

Onto the tourney, drew 58 seat 5. Gl if you are playing

Introduced myself to Caroline, lived to tell the tale. Otherwise very uneventful up to the first break.

My table is next to the food serving hatch, they have had even less to do than me so far.

Note to self: don't play a couple hundred 6max hypers the night before a live event with a good structure.

All dealers on rotation have been good.

Too bad, but good effort Simon, & we all had a bit of fun along the way. It was Simon's first visit to DTD, too, so I hope it lived up to his expectations.

We are about done with this, then. Big thanks to Mere for running the Spready, & to DTD for donating the Super 50 Free Entry.

All good.

Yea thanks everyone, sorry it didn't convert into a score ~ tikay was right all along.  Was fun, wasn't really interested in dribbling into the money (despite seemingly playing like it) so when 29handed, serial opener, I jammed 77 and failed to hold for a pot that got me back to average and ITM.

Later on when the cash games and other tourny got going, it was quite a sight looking across all the tables in full flow, all seemingly running like clockwork.

You enjoyed the DTD experience overall? They just do the simple things so well, I've seen them run 4 or 5 Tourneys at the same time, each with it's own colour coded plasma screens, & every one starts on time to the second. Not THAT difficult actually, but most seem to find it so.
