Auction Rules (copied from Keys')

Everyone who is interested in buying a piece make a bid for a certain percentage with the maximum price they would be prepared to pay for that piece. e.g. pleno 5% @ 1.8

All the bids are arranged in descending order by price* and the top 30 percentiles** at 9pm on Thursday 7th June win the auction. Every winner pays the price of the lowest winning bid.

*In the event of a tie, the bid made first chronologically will take precedence
**This may involve one person receiving only part of the percentage that they bid for.

You can make as many bids as you like, e.g. if you would buy 10% at 1.1 but only 5% at 1.2, you can make 2 bids, 5@1.1 and 5@1.2, if the strike price finishes 1.1 or below you will have 10%, between 1.1 and 1.2 you will get 5% and over 1.2 you won't buy any.

Bids will be ranked by up to 2 decimal places, i.e. 1.333 will be considered the same as 1.33 and ranked chronologically

Bids are binding and cannot be withdrawn, I am ending the auction on June 7th, 2 weeks before I fly out there to give me plenty of time to chase everyone up for payment before the event.

To prevent any <0.5 shenanigans, the minimum price will be 1.0 so 10% starts at $1600.

My decision in case of any disputes is final.

I'd like to increase the % I am bidding for from 2%, to 2.5%, please. Same "bid" price, 1.3.

Not sure if this counts as a seperate bid, & not overly fussed either way - I just realised that I mistyped the original %.

Thanks.

Yah, is market research, unfortunately the research only captures the opinions of those who don't think " **** auctions.". Well until now obviously ;)

Title: Re: Cambridgealex World Series Auction (currently at 1.1)
Post by: cambridgealex on May 24, 2012, 04:37:55 PM
Its really simple once you get your head round it.

The bid are ranked in descending order by price like this:

   %   price
WotR   1%   1.36
Scotty77   2%   1.35
DanMorgan   5%   1.30
Tikay    2.50%   1.30
Bobalike   1%   1.25
Lildave   15%   1.21
Bigfella   5%   1.20
Tonytats   2%   1.20
DanMorgan   5%   1.20
StuHopkin   2%   1.10
Evil Pie   3%   1.01
Rupert   40%   1.00

The top 40% get the action at whatever the highest price 40% was bought at.

So if you add up from WotRs 1% all the way to Stu Hopkins 2% you get 40.5%, so they're the people that "win" the auction. Evil Pie and Rupert miss out and Hopkins gets 1.5% instead of 2% to make 40% total. Everyone pays what Stu bid - 1.10.

Get it?

Title: Re: Cambridgealex World Series Auction (currently at 1.1)
Post by: cambridgealex on May 24, 2012, 04:41:47 PM
If you wanted to make a bid, you'd need to bid 1.11 or higher in order to gain a slice. If you bid 5% at 1.11 then you'd jump above Stu in the pecking order and everyone would now pay 1.11. You'd only get 1.5% though, since 38.5% has been bought by others at a higher price.

Title: Re: Cambridgealex World Series Auction (currently at 1.1)
Post by: pleno1 on May 24, 2012, 04:49:13 PM
oh i see, understand now, could never get head around the final price being lower than lots of people had bid.

Title: Re: Cambridgealex World Series Auction (currently at 1.1)
Post by: smashedagain on May 24, 2012, 04:54:42 PM
Keys suggested maybe trying an auction where folks pay what they bid. Could be a good idea but there is quite a big gaP between the highest and lowest bidders so that may cause a bit of bad feeling maybe

I think this is a great idea.

Thoughts on making it a silent auction?

Key's has done two in the past, one silent and one not. I think the non-silent worked better personally - people can see what's going on, they can see how their bid is going to alter the price and they always know how much there getting. I can see the upsides of a silent auction though too. Interesting idea.

Basically I think people auctioning off their action should be the way forward, it's a perfect market solution - nobody gets ripped off, market forces will determine what price everyone sells at. And nobody misses out, everyone can always get a slice of the action if they want.

This is a point I hadn't even considered.

Very annoying to see a good value stake be sold out in 15 minutes because I have been offline, when I might have paid 10% higher markup.

Then the telletubbies would have to pay 1.4 too.

It structured so that no shenanigans like that are possible.

Bad news in the $3k I'm afraid.

Cliffs: Great starting table, grind 9k starting stack up to about 18k by level 5. Moved tables to tough/aggro table, get in 18k at 150/300/25 with AK vs KK and don't get there.

TR:

My starting table was excellent, two players who seemed good and the rest were pretty weak, and one or two really poor players. One guy kept showing up on the river with 43o having limp/called or raise utg+1 etc, then bluffing in the worse spots ever! Was comedy, 3 or 4 times he showed up with 43o on the river! So it was a dream table pretty much.

I got off to a good start by making quads in the first hand I played, getting streets on the flop and turn on JT339, a young guy who seemed pretty decent folded on the river, was praying he had KQ and I was gonna get a double up in the first orbit!

A few other small pots got me to 12k from the 9k starting then I played this hand. Two serial limp/callers limped in from the hijack and cutoff and I had Kh Qh in the small blind, at 100/200 no ante. I think completing is supiorior to raising here so I did so, and our 43o friend made it 700, which both limpers and I called. The flop was Ks 7s 2h, and I checked, Mr 43 bet 1600 and the first limper shoved for 2900. I'm 99% ahead of the allin man, who always has a flush draw here or maybe a worse pair. Mr 43 can have me beat, but obviously it's more likely that he doesn't, plus he can't reraise if I flat call and will probably play honest down the streets because of the dry side pot. I say probably, he was quite irratic so it wasn't easy to predict what he was going to do. So I called as did Mr 43 and I checked the 8h turn, he checked behind (phew), the river was a 6s which I pretty much knew lost me the pot, and we both checked, and mucked when the allin guy showed his 4s 3s!

So that pot would've put me on 18k, but I was instead back to starting stack which was quite frustrating.

I ploughed on though and went on a nice surge once the antes kicked in, had two lots of 4 consective winning hands on the bounce, getting me to 13k.

Unfortunately my table broke and I got moved to a table which looked and was really tough. Lots of 3 and 4betting going on, lots of big stacks and young aggresive players who seemed to know what they were doing.

I played one hand where I 3b Kd 5d, and cbet Ks 9s 2h, the turn was a 4s and the river I can't remember, but it went check/check and I was good.

A few hands later, a young guy with lots of chips opened to 600 utg and 150/300/25 and another young guy in the hijack 3bet to 1500. I was on the button with AKo and in a bit of a dilemma. I had 18k (avg was 13k) so 60bbs, and the utg guy had me covered, the 3better had about 12k. I can cold4/call happily vs the 3better, but if utg 5b clicks it back, it's a horrible spot and I think I have to fold.

So I 4bet with in the intention of calling the 3bettor should he move allin, and probably folding to the opener if he clicked it back, unless I got some sort of read to do otherwise. I made it 2900 and then the utg guy thought for a while and announced he was allin (for 18k effective). The 3b tanks for a while and folds, and I decided to call.

To fold there, I have to put him on QQ, KK or AA ONLY and I just can't ever see him shove Aces here, and I thought unlikely Kings either - he'd just click it back to induce or get me to shove AK/QQ maybe JJ. So it didn't look like Aces or Kings so with that I just can't ever fold. It looks so much like JJ/QQ or most likely AK also, and with the overlay in the pot I don't think I can fold, so I called, and to my surprise he had KK and held up and that was that.

I think my call is fine given how aggresive the table was, my image having just shown down the K5 and the fact that the table was tough so it's not like I'd be getting any easy spots to get chips in the near future. The old guard will flame me for getting my chips in with Ace high and claiming it was a cooler but I think it was fine, and K&K and Mitch agreed.

Was a bit gutting because it's the biggest comp I'm playing here, it got about 1400 runners, 740k ftw, would've been nice!

Anyway, happy with how I played, onwards and upwards...

$2500 was pretty disappointing. The structure doesn't allow for any slips ups really.  I lost a small pot early on with two pair vs a flush, and all of a sudden I was grinding 30bigs pre antes.

Grinded hard, folded for a couple of levels, down to 4100 at 100/200. Shoved KK over an open, got it through, perhaps could've peeled ip because the opener wasn't a strong player, but hey ho. Opened next hand and got it through, then opened AQo from mp to 400, Melanie Weisner 3b me to 1000, I shoved 5k and she snap folded.

A few tiny pots later, up to a 7k, moved tables. Utg was a american guy who said he flew to mexico yesterday just to grind the sundays! Anyway he opened utg to 400 and I peeled the cutoff with Jh Th, the big blind also called. The flop came 8h 7h 4s and he cbet 625, I raised to 1500, the bb cold called and he set us both in, I called, bb folded. He had 44 and I turned the 9s :D

River 7s, gg :(

Absolutely nothing I'd do differently, so no regrets, on to the next one.

REALLY up for todays 2.2k bounty. its a 1700 +500 so a monkey everytime I knock someone out (winning showdowns somewhat of a speciality for me, not so far this trip but can only go up from here!).

Feel that Tikay's deep run has injected a morale boost into the british camp and I'm inspired to recreate the magic.

LET'S DO THIS!

Got 100odd runners, so a manageable field size. Off to a good start too.

Busted 2.2k bounty in huge pot AKhh<TT in a standard spot. 5th comp out of 5 in vegas I've busted in dbl or treble avg pots. Not fun.

Still time to get out of it for the stake so not to worry, still #lovethegame :)

Decided to swap todays 1100 for exactly the same comp this time next week. I feel like a day off from tournaments and also if I made day two, I'd miss the world series event tomorrow which I don't want to do.

Title: Re: Cambridgealex World Series Auction SOLD OUT at 1.26
Post by: cambridgealex on June 29, 2012, 07:49:03 PM
TR from yesterday:

The 2200 was a 1700 plus 500 bounty, the field got 140ish runners, so first prize was in the $60k region. Felt like a really manageable field size and a winable comp, rather than the daunting fields the $1500 ws events get. I thought it'd be a soft field since it clashed with a ws $5k so I thought most of the sickos would be in that. Alas, it was actually quite tough and there were very few spots on the two tables I was on, and plenty of tough opposition - Trigg, Le Knave, Keith, Keys, ChipRich plus the guys I didn't recognise all knew what they were doing.

I chipped up nicely to get my 20k starting stack to 25k, then lost quite a big pot with Ad Kd (lost so many big pots with AK this trip, it's getting silly!). A dutch looking geezer in his 30s or 40s raised in early position (I think at 100/200/25) and I 3bet in late position to 1200 and he 4bet to 2600. We were 20k deep, I was in position and it was suited in blue so I thought I could profitably peel here, even though I think his range is quite nutted, it'll contain the odd bluff, plus hands where I have one or two overcards to hit plus vgood implied odds if I make a flush, so for 1400 more I thought it best to peel.

The flop was QQQ and he checked. I thought he probably had JJ/AK or a give up AJ, AT, KJ. Most likely the former range though. He SOMETIMES has AA and KK here and decides to check for deception, but I have two blockers so I basically discounted them from his range. No point me betting, I checked behind. The turn was a brick and he bet 3200. I can fold here, and perhaps should, but I felt he could just be taking a stab with AK, AJ, AT, and if he is betting JJ/TT I have 7 outs. I called and he bet 4500 on a blank river and I fold, seemed vunlikely I could ever be good anymore. I asked him after the table broke if he had Jacks and he said he did.

I then took a pretty insane line vs a really bad/think he's amazing, really FPS young player. I'd seen him 3b and utg opener from utg+1 with Ts 7c and then peel a 4b. He floated a cbet on Q96 checked behind K turn and then took a stab on A river.

In this hand Trigg raised utg (had been raising almost every pot since I'd been there, not much showdown except T8o which he raised utg+2. Villain peeled from MP and I was on the button with Kh 8h. I hadn't played a hand since I moved to the table, so I thought a squeeze would get a lot of credit, especially since Trigg has opened utg. I think Trigg's range is wide enough for this to get through a lot, there was deece antes at this stage too and I had a hand that can flop top pair, and the suited equity is quite important, can barrel lots of flops and turns with decent equity. Since the FPS guy peeled in the middle I don't like it so much, since he's less likely to fold that Trigg imo, but since I think he's pretty awful I don't really mind him peeling.

So Trigg folded and he called and the flop was Jh 9c 4s. He checked I bet 2k into 4.8k. He raised to 5.2k. I had 16k back. He's repping almost nothing, 44, 99 and JJ he 3bets pre (perhaps not 99 but I discount it say 50%) he might peeled J9ss. It's such a thin range he's raising for value, having seen the T7o hand, I thought it more like to be an airball than a set. Also if he had a set or two pair, why does he need to raise when he can just let me hang myself, there's no bad turns and stacks are perfect for me to just b/b/j so I didn't think he'd raise a set there that often. I didn't want to shove and have almost no equity when called, I thought it'd be better to click it back to 8500 which looks super strong, I genuinely expected him to fold a high % of the time, but he snap shoved and I had to fold of course.

I'm not sure I like it since perhaps he's raising QT or T8 just to get it in, they're the only draws and I'm actually ahead of those hands. So maybe I should jam, I think that's probably better. I can't really bring myself to fold the flop vs this guy who's value range is so so narrow (almost non-existent) and my perceived range is so strong.

I think I probably got bluffed off the best hand and he had QT, I don't really know what the best play is. In before fold of course.

First big move I've made here and it went tits up - bit of a shame. But I've not built up big stacks in live tournaments in the past by just value betting, so it's part of my game and I usually pick my spots well - can't always work out though - sometimes you just run into a big hand, however unlikely it might be.

Anyway, we actually went on a fun spin up, doubling KK>33 then T9 vs 98 on T237, bricked the river, back to 25k which was just under average. Very next hand I get Ahrt Kh in vs TT in a totally standard spot and we brick despite turning a flush draw.

J94 hand is pretty annoying he really shouldn't have a hand.

I guess his value rane would be 3 combos of qq+. J10+ (a lot of combos here) half the combos of 99/44 about 4 combos of 9x that he's just like fuuuuuuuu and then maybe 3 combos of q10 that he wants to spin. It's always more than you think when you actually go into the combos but think ur line in a vacuum is probably ok theoretically just sucks that when we fold we've done on a big part of our stack.

Gl in next one

I have 2nd nuts, he may have same hand, may have two pair. Or he's called me on the flop with a gutshot on a flushing board...

Jason'll love this line, but I had the softest table ever today and bust b4 the antes!

It was horrible, the aforementioned nuts v 2nd nuts hand is totally unavoidable, can't fold on any street the guy can have same hand, 2pair, sets it's a total cooler.

So I had 9k at 50/100, still very much alive despite being 1/3 average. I raised T9 (unlucky hand I guess) in the hijack and the bb called, and I cbet 823 he called. Turn is a Jack which is obviously a must-bet card. I bet and he calls. The river is a King and he donk bets quite big and I fold.

6k. Lose a pot bvb with JT on J65 I bet he calls. Turn is a 7. I bet again (get called by worse Jx, 99, 88, 78, 68, 58, 54 all sorts of pair and draws) he calls. River is a King. I have 3k back there's 3k in there middle. I decided to go for a thin value/blocker bet of 800. I think he flicks it in with quite a few worse hands and never shoves worse or bluff shoves so I can make an exploitable bet/fold. He shoved and i folded. I guess I got tarped.

2k. I shove 99 after a few limpers at 75/150, they all call lol (quintuple up one time!) and it comes AQT :D I tried all the tricks, I got out of my seat, put my hoodie on, picked up my bag. But alas I did not find a 9 or miraculously be good.

So we're 0/4 so far, running terribly but I'm encouraged by the fields, except for the 2.2k bounty, they've been really really soft, tons of value and loads of runners so our ROI should be huge.

All it takes is one result...next up is the WSOP $1500 on monday, that'd be a good one to win! The one today got 3100 runners, prize pool 4.2million so could be a milly up top!

$1500 WSOP.

Had a dream start, making quads in a 3bet pot and getting paid decent, then chipped up really nicely on a soft table to 11k from 4500 starting stack. Feeling great at the break.

Moved tables which wasn't ideal, but it was still a good table with lots of soft spots. I lost a sizeable flip with TT vs AK aip but apart from that, I just went joke card dead for 5 hours straight and bled down to at my trough 3150 at 200/400.

I shoved 66 over and open, and doubled up vs A4. Very next hand I had 7k at 200/400/25 and minraised from the button with Ah Js. The bb was a chinese guy who went to fold his cards then changed his mind and flicked in the call. I knew there'd be trouble now. I cbet 1k on 6h 2h 2c and he c/raised allin for about 5k more. His preflop antics were 100% geniune, so he never has a pair pre so he either has 6x or some sort of budget flushdraw, gutshot, maybe just two random overs. I called and he had 43offsuit lol and he turned a 4, gg. Believe me when I tell you that the standard in these comps has been really poor!

Very disappointed of course. Although I was short, the structure is so good once you get to the antes, and if I hold in that pot I have average chips and we were only 400 spots off the money out of 2800 runners, so our deepest run yet believe it or not. I'm playing my best at the moment, and am also preparing really well for all the events. Fading nights out to get a good nights sleep, waking up 2 hours before events and going to the gym, swimming making sure my mind is 100% focussed and I'm in the zone. Feeling great, just nothing is going our way.

We've played 5 comps on the stake now, and been coolered or bad beated in big pots in all of them. That's just the way it goes. Timing sucks since they're such big comps and even though I've sold for them it's still a big punt, and it's a punt for you guys and I really want to return a profit, or anything to you guys but it's just happening right now.

Venetian tomorrow should be a good one, gonna rest up and get my mind back on track.

Busted the $1600 today 3bet shoving 18k at 300/600/50 with ATo bb vs co. The opener was an active opener, I we'd had some postflop battles but he was combatting my aggression by peeling lots and stationing me down postflop. I decided that he wouldn't 4b jam that light, so didn't want to 3bet call, and he'd shown a tendancy to peel in bad spots and I didn't want to get peeled and play in oop, folding is terrible and 3b/folding is also pretty bad but maybe ok.

Jamming is defo +EV even though it's quite a lot of bbs, I think it's the best play. I could peel the open I guess but I just decided to jam and ran into AK.

Decided to skip the Wynn main tomorrow in favour of the WS $1k. I thought this would be a good value event, but it's not going to get many runners and apparently it's mostly european grinders and all the big punters are flicking it in for the WS $1k so I'm going to play that instead.

I've spoken to a couple of the backers and they agree it's a good decision / happy to go with my judgement so I trust the rest are happy too.

The WS $1500 yesterday was a deceptively good structure. The small amount of starting chips is counteracted by the 25/25 level and hour clock/plenty of levels once the antes kick in, I was short all day but never felt in trouble. So I think the 1k will be a good investment.

Will mean more refunds too since the Wynn was a 2.6k! #winning.

We did a day two! We did a day two!

Event59 the 1k, got 9bigs to come back to unfortunately. Been a joke tilting day, should have about 50k. I made sure the official chip counts reflected this unjustice though ;)

Nearly in the money, but yeh pretty short. Field is incredible, literally worse than a 20freezeout! If I get some chips I really like my chances as playing against these types of players is my speciality.

Wanna do well so bad! Gogogogo!

Busted 93rd for 4.2k :(

Out of 4500 odd runners thats good going but obviously it's not much $ and it's disappointing to get close to a big pay day and miss out.

Played my heart out today. Ran good to spin up my bowl to a big stack, and had lots of chips for a long period of the day.

Lost a big one with 88<KK for 20bigs in a standard spot to go to 60k at 1k 2k, then went really card and spot dead and blind away to 45k at 2k/4k and shoved Js 9s from the cutoff and George Bedi found KQ in the bb and held.

Wouldn't done anything differently, no regrets at all, loved the adrenaline of going deep in a bracelet event and it was a great experience.

Will do the numbers for you lot tomorrow after a good nights sleep.

Basically I think you'll get about 1/3 of what you put in back, which isn't much good but much better than it was look a couple of days ago.

Played these events
3000
2500
2200
1100
1500
1600
1000

TOTAL 12900

Original package total 16000

refund 3100 at 1.26 markup is 3906.

TOTAL cashes $4283.

So 1% = (3906+4283)/100 = $81.89

I think that's right.

I thought we'd swapped 0.5% of Vegas action and then you don't even turn up to Vegas and play at all! What the fuck is this!
