Title: Can you be moved into the SB or button and be dealt cards?
Post by: Shez on May 29, 2012, 09:16:02 PM
Hi guys, not many know me here but a debate has arisen from a local card room and i was hoping Blonde could help clear it up.

If you are moved table during a tournament and you are moved into the SB or the Button, do you get dealt cards....?

I 99% know the answer and have attempted to explain it, but i cant be explaining it correctly as its not being understood.

yes

the only time you're not dealt in is if you're between the sb and the button

you can't move into the SB.  if you take the seat between the button and the SB you miss the hand, and you are in the cut off next hand.  You also can't move in on the button - the button moves to the seat it would have moved to had you not joined the table, and you get dealt in as normal.

you can't move into the SB.

this is only correct for table balancing. if a table has been broken however then you can move to the sb

7: Breaking Tables
Players going from a broken table to fill in seats assume the rights and responsibilities of the position. They can get the big blind, the small blind, or the button. The only place they cannot get a hand is between the small blind and the button.
8: Balancing Tables
A: In flop and mixed games when balancing tables, the player who will be big blind next will be moved to the worst position, including taking a single big blind when available, even if that means the seat will have the big blind twice. Worst position is never the small blind. In stud-only events, players will be moved by position (the last seat to open up at the short table is the seat to be filled). The table from which a player is moved will be as specified by a predetermined procedure. Play will halt on any table that is 3 or more players short.

surely not?  then the geezer to your left would have to post the BB twice.

you move to a table during a hand, button is on 1, 2 is empty, 3 is big blind only. you sit in seat 2 while the hand plays out

next hand button moves to seat 2, 3 is sb, 4 is bb. no one is paying the big blind twice

I think it would only happen if the bb got knocked out and was instantly replaced by the new player, who would take the sb.

Yeah doubleup is correct. Only time a player can be moved into these seats is when a table breaks and either a) the SB is dead or b) the BTN is dead

I think the easiest way to explain is if no action is changed by someone coming from a broken table or being seated right after the last bb got knocked out
