Interesting.

Very best of luck today Tighty and I echo your sentiments re: Jon's efforts, wp both of you.

Looking forward to the final. Special well wishes to Mr Belton though fear he's playing for second place behind Marius...

So, some information about some of your final 22....I don't know all of the guys, but I know most...

The runners and riders and the form guide

Lee Taylor

Lee, from Newcastle overcame an unpromising start. Two Lee Taylors in the field, both wanted to sit in the same seat, and this Lee was asked to move.....on such fine margins are tournaments won and lost. Lee is from Newcastle, best result is a 4th in a GUKPT £500 at Coventry and whatever happens this is already his highest live cash

Kieran Plater

Kieran looks about 14. Son of DTD regular Ian, he posts on blonde as donkieplayer. With his shock of Ginger hair, the one thing you notice about Kie when you walk the tables is his real enthusiasm for the game. Bounces around like a card-playing tigger, simply loves it. This is his first live festival cash, a terrific achievement already. Good news really, as the school term starts this week, and there's new uniform to buy

Marius Lietuvninkas

Tough player, a regular on the UK circuit since 2009. Best result 6th in a UKIPT for over £8,000. Based in London with a string of minor festival cashes to his name. Dark horse for this, not a lot of update profile, but a real threat

David Williams

If its the David I am aware of, a Les Croups regular in Cardiff, only festival cashes so far at his local casino

Sean Randall

DTD regular at the big events, indeed he won the DTD Deepstack in its £300 buy in days for over £12,000.

Cina Farazdaghi

No database entries. Guessing a bit here but judging from who was railing him online, a Northampton player with that good crop of young players (and John Black)? Someone can confirm....

Glen McCabe

Irishman Glen with a string of festival results in the Republic, including an outright win in Kildare. Best ever DTD result 10th in a monthly Deepstack

Marios Andreas

Marios is from London, with a few results in festivals in places like Big Bluff, where he scooped £14,500 in a £200 buy in event for finishing 2nd! I remember him on Day1a, drawn next to Chilli and giving her problems most of the day

James Browning

The veteran of the field. Effusive and erudite, loquacious and pragmatic. TV veteran from Poker Night Live, Sky Poker. Many poker involvements over many years. Very steady and consistent player. According to THM, has never had a five figure tournament cash, which surprised me

Matt Perrins

$750,000 of live database cashes including a WSOP bracelet, winner of IPT Venice, 2nd in a DTD Monte Carlo etc etc. Has never had leading chips in this, but in many ways is the class of the field. Hostelries in Leeds await another big cash with baited breath

Sean Belton

Former DTD Dealer, website entrepreneur, blonde diarist, Shaggy from Scooby-Doo lookalike, we thought there was no beginning to this man's talents. Today he can rpove us wrong. Going to be one of the best supported players on here, zerofive has a big chance today. Already his biggest live cash, I'd love him to hit it big today.

Senh Man Ung

West Midlands based tournament reg, highest cash £8,000 in a GUKPT. Looks hard as nails, plays hard as nails.

Nick Jamieson

5th in a UKIPT Galway side event, won into and cashed in the PCA for $30,000

Thomas Myland

The best builder in St Albans. Strangest diarist on blonde. A Luton regular for 67 years, with his own unique style on and off the table. Seeing his hole cards on the live stream will, for me, solve one of my ancient poker riddles. How does he do it?

Anthony Mackay

Anthony is a high stakes London cash game and tournament regular, at places like the Vic. Really strong game, database entries consistently since 2006, primarily in London and not often seen at DTD. Take him lightly at your peril

Stuart Fox

Coming into today as the short-stack Stuart from Birmingham is an extremely likeable and successful tournament pro with $1.4m in career winnings including a three WSOP final tables, two EPT finals and a WPT final. Took a break from the game a while ago with the arrival of his son, but came back last year as good as he ever was. I hope he gets chips today, would love to watch him go deep here

Others

Danish Gandhi
Giedrius Mockunas
Darren Copus
Charles Akadiri
Gary Jones (not "the choirboy" i don't think)
Tin Yau Li

Information on these guys gratefully received, thanks!

Good luck to all who made it today. Great Comp and well run by DTD again.
Have to say this as I played on Saturday, I absolutely hate those uniforms the girls are wearing. Who actually thinks they look good. I'm no prude, but I think it is demeaning. Srry its my view !!!

Should be a great final day to a great comp. Fantastic achievement to get 910 this time of year sure they will break the 1000 if they do it again.
Love the description of James Browning !! As for a winner well loads and loads of talent, Matt Perrins bound to go well but needs a good start to chip up. James Browning sure to ladder up considerably. But for me its Marius have known him since the UKIPT 1 leaderboard battle and ran in to him a few times since. Have expected him to win something big for a while sure he will go close today.
Looking forward to the livestream and commentary wish I was doing a bit myself should be a great finale.

on top of the above, a MASSIVE thank you to the updaters, commentators, dealers, TD's and of course the DTD back room staff....

Had a thoroughly enjoyable time over the two days and my only regret is not going for a smoke and a loo break after the  8d 3d hand. That way I wouldn't have been at the table for the KKvAA

A mix up at table 14
Anthony Mackay and James Browning cards get mixed up, both hands called dead
Lee Taylor shows his  Kh Jh but only Browning and Mackay's hands are dead
folds to Taylor in the small blind
Puts Senh Man Ung all in for 1million, quick call with  Aspades 3s

Such tilting commentary from Zimbler. When a guy double barrelled 22 on K99sx he got praised for his great play because he is vs a FD, but now a guy has bet 99 on the turn on Q62rQ he is getting criticised for his bet because he is vs AA. So results orientated and inconsistent.

Again, not meaning to bok anything but....with the stream functioning as well as it is.....

Surely it's time for "Live at DTD" a la "Live at the Bike"??

I know its the closing stages of a big comp, but with 235 users currently viewing the stream there clearly is interest there.

Looks like the infrastructure is there.

And if I know poker players and their egos (myself not exempt, obv) many would love the chance to play on a stream.*

*Though obv not all but as long as it's opt-in....

good luck to Mario (Big Bluff) & Dave Copus (original Luton reg). PaulZimbler is fun to listen to & he's giving his opinion, he has a quirky way of playing, so right or wrong he's giving his opinion & if ur gonna shoot every commentator, start with every player in the premier league who comments on hands that u think they can't see the players hole cards when they suggest a strategy & the player at the table does exactly the opposite.

A real shame DTD came in under the guarantee, I still think getting 900+ unique entries is a great achievement in today's current climate and I really hope the support for the club continues in this manor and DTD will continue to pave the way for the big GTE's on home soil.

Well done to Rob and the DTD staff and best of luck to those still involved.

Q3 technically a shove for 10bbs SB into BB I'd have thought?

Any hand is a +EV shove with under 12bbs SB to BB (i think)... especially live when people dont call it off correctly

Limp from Copus for 3rd consecutive hand, Jones completes.
Kie from the big blind to 295k, both call
Flop -  Js 3h 5d
Jones with his signature tank before betting 280k
Kie to 750k
Before the dealer can count the bet, both players pass

Kie running the table at the moment

Kie to 215k, Danish and Jones call from the blinds
Flop -  Kc 8s 6c
Checks to Kie, bets 235k, Danish calls, Jones folds
Turn -  Qh
Check/call from Danish for a 310k bet
River - 2s
Danish checks, Kie 560k
Danish dwell calls with  Kh 7h which is good

Not even slightly true.

You're not taking into consideration how soft the tournament is. If you shove 92o bvb for 12bbs, first of all it's not even + chip EV 6 handed (because there are fewer antes, less in the pot to win) but it's hugely - $ EV because you're burning your edge on the field. And of course the pay jumps play a part in how profitable a shove is; laddering is quite important when you're this short as that's where most of the value in your stack lies.

Nothing has changed from the outer table
Kie now up to 4.6mil, just saw him 3bet pre, bet a  Ad Ks Qc flop then show  9s 4d
Continues to run the show

Jones likes to tank for 2mins+ when hes in a pot

Danish slowed down a little, the 2nd most active

Andreas playing fairly tight, haven't seen him get involved in many pots at all

Copus seems to enjoy the limp/fold game

I can't get the live stream up, which is a shame as I'd like to hear the commentary to see exactly what Paul Zimbler is doing to deserve this much love.

Seem to remember a few other guest commentators being slated before on update threads. Piece of piss sat at home on your iPad or laptop though isn't it?

Can't help thinking if Paul hadn't have had so much recent coverage this year RE Feldman, he wouldn't be getting quite so bashed about.  I'm not a good player but can still write good updates. Often the best players don't come across well in commentary boxes, a great deal of it is about personality. Just my thoughts that's all.

As you may have seen
Akadiri all in from the button with an 8bb shove, with  7h 4h
Belton calls with  Ac 7s
Big hold from Ace 7
Down to an unofficial final table of 9 players
Our feature table is 8 handed, so I'm afraid you are stuck with my updates for the duration of this
then once we lose a player, we will move to the feature

Akadiri 10th for £5,000

Updates coming to you in 20 minutes time

Just when people open raise and if the guy is winning, its a shove/call/go mental, if he is losing, its the exact opposite. Really frustrating to watch someone say a guy should fold Ace Queen, just because we've seen another has Kings behind!

Im not anti Paul because of the Feldman thing .Perhaps if you take some time and listen to the commentary youll see why there have been so many comments.when his mate is in a hand he could do no wrong . he keeps going on about his reading skills when he can see the hole cards , contradicts himself when  a player continues to bet on a paired board for the second time and isnt impartial.Tighty on the other hand has been excellent . we just want good impartial commentary and its been a lot better the last half hour to be fair. gl to the ft players.

I understand what youre saying here Caroline, but talking from experience (I did 3 hours or so in the booth with PJ on a £150 final), its not THAT hard to be impartial. Gary North who came 3rd is one of my oldest friends and I still managed to be a neutral observer that was doing what I was supposed to.

That amongst other things.

Anyway, lets forget about the commentary (Tighty is doing more than a good enough job to make up for it).

Mmmmm - FT, and picture quality's suddenly got worse - and no commentary!

that's because it's a different camera, on a different table
only temporary until we lose a player, where we move back to our feature table
no commentary due to no hole cards and it's too difficult to see the flop/players hands at showdown

Hmm not bitchy just saying the guy played terrible and lost. bit painfull watching terrible players win these comps all time when really good players do nothing wrong and always run sub par. Really fancy belton or the young kid to win now. Both seem way above the rest of the field ability wise.

Sean Belton 6th for £17,000

17 bags will last him a few downswings and a lot of graphs...

wp mate.
Wp Sean really looking forward to the diary in the next few days.

Any local ish or Dtd regs left. This looks like possibly being the first major Dtd comp where the winner may have travelled from afar

Im not watching the stream but I would imagine people are tight because most of the stacks have a very low number of big blinds so the things you can do is very limited. Also the hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee ICM complications of the payjumps being so big. Every decision is magnified in this situation and I for one would not be splashing about trying to own the table even if i had the chip lead. Also, making it to heads up play is a huge thing, anyone can win heads up even from massive deficits along with the fact of getting a ladder out for 65 bags is a pretty decent weekend.

GG sean, nice run.

3 ways to a flop...
 Qh 3h 7d
Randall bets 550k, Andreas flats, so does Gandhi
Turn -  5h
Randall bets 1.2mil, both call again
River -  Tc
Randall bets 1.25mil
Andreas calls, Gandhi ever so bemused, makes a call
Randall shows  4h 7h for the win
both Gandhi and Andreas had Q 5

Sean Randall - 28.5mil, still with his Golden Chip intact hoping to add a £8k package on top of first prize

Yeah this. Great updates mate, must've been a knackering 3 days. Tightys commentary was impressive on so many levels. Never really even seen him play but clearly knows what hes talking about on the strategy front. Did a great job of keeping it accessible for both the poker enthusiast and family supporter, and dealt well with Mr. Zimbler, including some pretty hilarious lines!

Loving the updates from Jonathan and Tighty, well played both.

Congrats to Sean Randall, seems like he played very well, and deserved the win.
Was rooting for Mr Belton obv, and would have loved to see him take top spot, but am made up for him binking a decent score.

Watched the stream for a couple of hours yesterday, when down to 3 & 2 tables, and really enjoyed it.
Was very watchable, the quality is good, and Tighty and Zimbler flowed well together.
Tighty is a natural, and, although it is easy to disagree with some of the lines Zimbler suggests, it didn't affect my viewing experience at all.

The negative noise that reaches a crescendo during most of the DTD live streams, is extremely embarrassing, and, IMO, reflects more on the people making those comments, than on the commentators themselves.

It's highly likely that you are missing out on some competent potential commentators, who will be dissuaded from contributing due to the probable response.

Also a huge thank you to Jonathan in what was, I believe, his last live update pre returning to uni or similar? Tighty in the box was the stuff of absolute legend. As well as a dry, quick sense of humour I didn't disagree with a single poker related suggestion he made. Also a very endearing/genuine quality of, when not knowing the 'correct'/optimum play in any given spot, not bullsh1tting.

Wow what a torn, 'coming out' now from a semi lurking blonde; getting more into the game/blogs after 3 busy years grinding away live and running a busy business/3 kids, etc. Guess Iv got my torn play somewhere near where I want it, although the kk helped somewhat. (Am I alone in having WON 3 tournaments inside a week at DTD, 2 > 100 runners?? !!! excuse the brag)

Will be interesting to see the live feed and some of the comments. Whatever, was abs shattered after 3 long days and half sleeps (amazing how many friends think its ok to ring at all hours when youve been grinding for 13).
So thanks in no order to: Dtd, rob, simon, dealers, ryan, valets, all friends and railers; yoz, shakey, baz, ian, jay, adam and fam, Blonde/tighty, Gill, Paul Ho (mate these are NOT moobs they are PECS, and wheres MY trophy) all the regs that made the shouts; charlie, raggy, gordon i think i heard, and of course my competitors, especially the generous ones along the way that shoved into my set/straight. Nice having Belton with position on me, smashing guy, all the best in future to you. So now im gonna load my dtd account and get more of those chips so I can bully the lot of you in the Chipleader final (xxwinxx)

See you all in St Kitts!

Sean (Randall)

ps am I a 'Blonde' now?

It's highly likely that you are missing out on some competent potential commentators, who will be dissuaded from contributing due to the probable response.

I don't really agree with this Neil. I see what you're saying about other potential good commentators being put off, but personally, it'd make me think "I could do a better job than that" and make me more likely to want to try it out and test myself against a tough crowd.

People saying that everyone gets slated in there - that's not true, I never did, nor did PJ, or Tighty or JP Kelly, or Mitch and Keys when they did it. Even you didn't get lynched for your Sky Poker appearance.

It is possible and sorry if this sounds arrogant, I think it's easy to
a) be balanced and neutral even if you have a close mate on the table
b) offer good analysis without over complicating things, and still appeal to the masses
c) make it funny and entertaining for those not so interested in the technical side of things.

Congratulations Sean (Randall) on the win, and other Sean on coming 6th - great results for the local boys, keeping it in the neighbourhood ftw! :)

But why do we have to say anything at all?
We have a free live stream, with the commentators usually giving their time for free, trying to do their best, and almost always not saying anything intentionally offensive.

In the middle of this happening, we get a bunch of haters who stick the knife into one, or both, of the people delivering the commentary.
We then get a unintelligent-mob mentality, which wades in and adds a few extra kicks.
Doesn't seem like an adult way of dealing with the situation to me.

If you don't think the commentators are very good, either see Rob or Simon after the event, or start a thread on here, with some constructive comments on who you would like to see on the mike.

As to your point of some of the other people who have 'performed' without criticism.
Most of those named have almost certainly done a decent job, but even if they hadn't, the fact that they are 'friends' of Blonde would mean they will be given much more leeway than others.
Zimbler was almost certain to get criticism if he wasn't very, very good, given some of his press on here recently.

The commentators are always judged, on here, by their poker analysis.
As you know, there is much more to commentary than that - delivery, flow, giving background information, filling in when the action is slow, humour etc...
Whilst Zimbler has some flaws in terms of MTT strat, he ticks some of the other boxes, to the point that it certainly wasn't unwatchable.

Would I pick Zimbler if I was given a choice of commentators for the next event - no.
However, I don't think it's right, or fair, that he gets a kicking whilst he is doing his shift.

Jakally, sat in the sun, 32 degrees, with a beer, signing off. :)

Must be Tighty's fault then :)

I personally didn't make any negative comments about the commentary, I was just disagreeing with the notion that those that had criticisms should not be made to shut up and "start a thread elsewhere". The update thread is the natural place for such comments, just like it's the natural place for people to say "Great structure, really enjoyed it, Thanks DTD" or to say "I'd prefer a 60 minute clock on day 1" for example or other such comments.

The commentary is a huge part of the the live stream experience so people should be free to comment on it. I'm not saying that all the comments were helpful and constructive, and I agree it did turn into a bit of a "mob mentality" like you said, but people making negative comments does not = "bunch of haters who are sticking the knife in".

I also disagree (this is odd - I rarely disagree with you Neil, making me think I'm probably wrong!) with you saying that his recent bad press meant he was always going to get a bad reception. Most people don't know about it for one. Especially since the thread with all the details is called Andrew Feldman. And he got a similar reception after the Stoke GPS commentary which was before all this came out.

PS. If he was giving his time for free like you say to do this commentary, then it'd be slightly different, but he wasn't.

100% agree with Jakally's points about the commentary, I was trying to say something similar but he managed to put it across in a way that seemed fair and impartial.

Jon: Great updates, I for one will definitely miss you and your input when I'm updating at DTD. GL at Uni! Can't believe you missed the chance of a "switched a birth", for Kie Plater as a ginger Postman Pat.

I also agree with Jakally's comments. Thorroughly enjoyed the live stream and thought PZ was pretty entertaining. He sounded passionate about the FT and a personable guy.

There maybe optimal plays and lines in poker but that isn't to say other opinions/lines are wrong. His opinions & commentary wasn't bad enough to warrant the criticism he was receiving on the update thread. His game can't be all that bad judging by a pretty decent Hendon Mob. Regardless, the stream isn't supposed to be a tutorial and the differing views on the plays between Tighty and Zimbler added to the stream IMO, would have been boring if they sat there agreeing with each other for two hours.

Great comp, great stream, great updates. Well done DTD, Blonde and all the final tablers.

forum/ˈfôrəm/
A place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a forum, and the particular issue is poker. Therefore it's perfectly legitimate for people to share their opinions on paul Zimbler's POKER commentary and frankly I wish i could be surprised that this turned into a redundant debate, but I'm not.

It also baffles me that you consider what we were doing "mob mentality" but when a group of people from a similar generation all sharing similar opinions jump on a small group of people from a different generation with differing opinions, that's now fine.

Paul Zimblers comments hindered the experience of the live feed and not only made it unwatchable for anybody that doesn't hero worship him, but also ran the risk of making an incredible poker venue look a little foolish.

It's not a coincidence that the shows with the most ignorant commentators get way less viewers than the shows with the concise, thought provoking commentators (ie the Big Game).

I never like to openly criticize people, but the reason Zimbler has been getting a load of stick for the commentary is because his commentary was god-awful it was basically just blithering nonsense from start to finish. DTD spent a lot of money on the television equipment etc and want feedback, feedback is what they are getting here.

In before someone shows me Zimbler's hendon mob.

+1

I think Goulder, Keys, Keith, goodness me - even Langley could have crushed it.  I understand that PZ has been doing other commentary on other tours, but in this instance it wasn't a good 'poker' choice.

Tighty was a phenominal talent in the booth and really excelled yesterday, with his spoken word being even better than his written with the tone and the quick wit with which it was delivered.  (Fast becomming one of my poker favourites.. - ill try to not tell you any nories sir)

imo - it needs to be

Tighty and guest.. with a variety ranging from The RastaFish to Keith to Dubai to Dom Kay to Cody and even guest stars when the Americans/ Europeans turn up.

I was one of the ones on the 'anti-rail' of PZ and I tried to be constructive with my criticism and as I'd had a few beers I'd like to apologize if anyone thought I wasn't.
However I will not be removing my comment of him being a poor choice, and for me much of my watching experience was interrupted by Skype chatter with 'poker-friends' (like football-friends but more degen) discussion about just how horrendous much of his strategy was and how results orientated his entire commentary was.  I was 'lucky' enough to miss the time where his mate 'Dave' was about but from the reports on here, it should have been curbed after the first comment.  Even the most relaxed poker amateur who doesn't care about any strategy and just enjoys his poker is going to get wound up with the commentators favoritism.

All in all, a great tournament, well run, everyone clearly worked their socks off... but its not completely perfect yet.
9/10 dtd - nice hand sir

Tighty is the nuts. Tighty and guest would be the best outcome. I heard Tom Langley on the Rivals stream and thought he was very good but I could not listen to him all the time. There are very few Jesse Mays out there but I definatly think Tighty is a great anchorman. It's all about balance for me and love the jokers in there having fun but also appreciate that the more technically gifted and analytical thinkers deserve the airtime too.

Oh yeah I have abso no idea how much he got paid but would assume he got offered more than me :)

My experience as a comm:

It was a pre recorded GUKPT from season 1 when the whole tour was on Ch4.

I was the "expert" lol alongside Vicky Coren who did the main commentary.

She made it really easy. Teeing me up with lots of easy points to make and punchlines to deliver.

Having said that it was so difficult to say fresh stuff about each hand.

Took about 4 hours to record the whole show.

And just for Lee.. I was paid a monkey.

I'd be surprised if you'd get more than half for that for a live stream.

Post by: blueace on September 18, 2012, 11:35:14 AM
Have now reviewed the feed of the final table, and of course makes very interesting viewing, this being the first time I’ve been able to look back on plays in such detail. Thought it might be of interest for the winner to give some views on it. My victory speech if you will.

Going to lay comments out in headed format so:

Commentary
A difficult job no doubt, they are never going to be able to please all. Some comical statements at times, but in general I thought the dynamic worked, with both a dry and more cheery style apparent. I agree that those wanting some in depth analysis were perhaps missing out, but it’s probably the case that a lot of viewers were family and friends, and those that weren’t could form their own professional opinions on the more intricate elements of the game. I think referring to players in certain ways (so tight etc) as though that is their natural style ignores completely the fact that a final table with so much money up for grabs is going to change peoples strategy/style completely.
And of course I couldn’t understand how some spots I was in were so transparent to the commentators minds yet had me baffled at the time – O wait, they could see the cards!

Table Dynamics

Obviously don’t wish to come across the wrong way, but at no time did I feel uncomfortable or feel that any of the players had a better game than me. I played particularly cautiously against certain players raises (yes I would normally jam all in or 3 bet A10 suited in that spot! Not in my nature to fold tho)

In view of the situation we were in and the money involved I felt there was very little in the way of raising light, and of course there was hardly any three betting. Most of the three betting and real action took place on day two when the blinds allowed it. When your looking at a raise to .6m and your three bet commits half your stack its really not going to happen unless your holding the goods, (or you feel someone is raising light). This factor meant that in general a very cautious tight feel was apparent and at no time did I feel comfortable committing some chips to a raise unless I had something worthwhile. I am of course aware that had there been an aggressive professional on the table I would have had to adapt my style but all in all the optimum strategy was sit and wait.

Players

Well played to all. Seat one showed a good game and I think his strength was in his relative bravery in relation to age and situation. Although its fair to say on review he never got out of line or made any really tricky plays. Wp.
How I wish I was seat two coming on to the final table. For sure those chips would have been put to good use. I’m sure he will improve somewhat as he clearly has the gamble in him which of course you need, to make final tables. I will always remember the 55 hand and really wish I had it in me to make the call, wp.
Seat 3 was a bit of a mystery at times, although my overriding feeling was that he was relatively tight. Again perhaps he should have made more plays when holding the chips, but I got lucky when making the relatively easy call holding KJ v 55. Wp.
Seat 4, Never saw much from this seat, wp on making the final.
Seat 6 was the one player I had played before, unsurprisingly. Having a short stack for most of the time, I could tell the game he was forced to play, and I was ‘out of there’ to any 3 bet or all in from Mr Belton. Wp.
Seat 7, Probably falls into the category of seat 2 and 3 in that could have made more plays. Never put me in any spots nor did I ever feel uncomfortable against him. Wp reaching the bigger money.
Seat 8, Without wanting to sound amateurish this guy was a bit of a nemesis to me on day two, clearly hitting some nice cards when I made plays. However it did become clear that he was tight and was nitting up completely. Wp.

Hands

Hands that have been talked about since include the 74 flush hand. Those seeing the hand have commented that the 10m that I acquired in the hand missed some value. I beg to differ. Taking into account the tightness on the table, the fact that I bet each street and was flatted by two players, I’m putting both players on a single queen or pocket pair. If I check the river I’m convinced it comes back check, check, so 1.2m for value is a must bet to me by the river (2.5 would have been better). Having kept it cheapish over the two streets perhaps I missed the opportunity to investigate further as to their holdings (a bigger bet on the turn) but all in all when you have a massive hand in that spot, you want to extract maximum value, at the time I felt I was doing that.

Heads up play

Friends have commented that it was not me on the final table. Agreed. I played like a pussycat. Partly because of my state, but also I like to think I had adapted my play to the player. I could with hindsight have grinded him down with constant raises, but I felt I would at some point run my crappy hands into slightly bigger and lose a chunk. So I opted for at times playing a reverse strategy of playing strong hands weak and weaker hands strong. This paid off. I genuinely think he would not have shoved with an average ace but for the play up til then. And of course whatever I had played by that stage I felt very comfortable but still anxious that I would get the ultimate prize/kudos and holiday.

Overall

Have never played to 3 days in a tournament. And on the spin too! Coupled with strong medication and an impending operation I was pretty shafted towards the last 4 hours; the hand propping the big head up was a necessity! When it went heads up I was absolutely shattered, a completely different type of shattered to one I have felt before. A gamut of human emotion all mixed up and playing havoc with my relatively worn out and unfit body/mind! Only those that have been there can relate I guess.
Anyway, a final thanks to those that have come up to congratulate including the man himself Mr Yong. I very much look forward to mixing it up in that sort of spot again. Who knows I may even make a re-appearance on the 1-2 cash games! ;kev; ;kev;

 ;first;
