Title: The Football Information ,Tips & Discussion Thread
Post by: FUN4FRASER on November 30, 2012, 11:41:50 AM
A lot of Football info can get absorbed within the Tips for Tikay abyss , so a dedicated thread would be beneficial to all .

Below is my recent post on that thread for this coming weekend .....

It would be good to hear everybodies football related viewpoints on any player , manager , team ,league ,event etc regardless of your betting or football knowledge !

Some Good Pieces by Neil ,Phil and others over the last few days and totally understand the logic on how you have more chance of making a profit in less popular markets.

Football and one day International cricket have always been my chosen sport but with there been less 50 over matches (due mainly to twenty /twenty) my focus is more football these days

Not sure you are wanting Football recommendations anymore but the thread can decide and Ill offer up when I see fit.

So after not seeing a decent bet in 6 weeks I now have identified 2 in the space of a few days...The first was Spurs to beat Liverpool on Wednesday , and the next is Chelsea to beat West Ham away from home on Saturday (early kick off) , as I feel West Ham have been punching above their weight so far this season and Chelsea are ready to put a team to the sword.

If it was at Stamford Bridge Chelsea would be a 2-5 / 1-3 shot but away from home they are currently 21-20 @Bet Victor which I think represents value

Suggested Bet Chelsea to beat West Ham @ 21-20

I reckon by tomorrow morning you may get 23/20 Chelsea, minimum 11/10.

This is a real "swimming against the tide" pick.

And I think it has alot of merit.

But as Dwayne said, the price is very likely to drift further, so wait until near kickoff to get on.

What price do we think Chelsea would have been for this game just after they beat Spurs 4-2?   Assuming West Ham form constant.

4/6?

I discovered today that Villa owe Sunderland £4m if Bent plays 3 more games for them

This lies behind him not being on the bench behind Benteke

He's a cut price offload in January as Lambert doesn't lke his attitude

Kind of self defeating.  Sunderland miss out on £4 million, but the buyer knocks £4 million off the paying price because they know that Villa know that they know.

So the buyer is the only winner?

Don't like how Lambert has done this, is kinda embarrassing not even having him even in the squad.  Villa have been dull as dishwater this season and only a couple of decent results have papered the cracks.

I like Benteke, think he looks good

Not really sure why Lambert seems fixated on playing 1 up though

I know the Villa owner Lerner stopped putting much money into the club around the time of the O'Neill disputes, but surely Bent+Benteke up front would lead to extra points and be more than worth £4m to Sunderland?

Odd all round

Yep having a young kid on the bench in front of him and then saying its nothing personal is a lie. Just tell everyone he don't fancy him and will go at Xmas. If they had won the game vs Saints when they played both of them upfront I wonder what would have happened?

I am still not in the know on why Lambert went to Villa? Did he have some argument or broken promises with Norwich? I know the court case against him and Norwich but dunno the details. I would have rather stayed there then go to Villa knowing there would be no investment.

Has Lerner done his money?

Sold the Browns in a hurry, and has cut off funds to Villa after spending at will when he first showed up..

Went to the Valley to see Charlton beat Peteborough 2-0 midweek.

Was very unimpressed by the home side who basically did a hit and run job against the posh who totally outplayed them in the second half.

Basically Charlton had 2/3 proper attempts and scored from 2 of them, the first was a mad punt from quite far out that flew in.

Couldn't quite decide whether this meant I should follow posh or oppose Charlton in the short term.

Well unforts the away side looked pretty toothless up front hence the scoreline while Charlton are playing in form Milwall this weekend. So i'll just oppose Charlton for now.

Milwall are enjoying a fantastic run of form as of late and I was pretty shocked to see any odds against quotes for them at home for this match.

11/10 is lovely and i've also availed myself of the 3-1 with paddy power for the lions to win by two or more.

I can't see Charlton being as lucky again. They'll need to play much better to get anything at the den and I can't see it from what I saw midweek.

I havent done a great deal of work on this game but must say it struck me as a big price.  Off the top of my head I weoul;d have though 10/11 would have been closer to the mark.

Are you laying Pool @ 2/5 home to Southampton Fraser?
Also I was looking at the QPR vs Villa game and I quite like opposing the 'both teams to score' @ 2.06 with Betfair.
QPR have scored 4 times in 6 games at home and Villa have scored 3 times in 7 away matches. And Redknapps first priority seems to have been to tighten up the defence.

Edit: correction

Millwall are really beyond average, they seemed to have scrapped a good run together. Vs Leeds they were workman like. Charlton vs Millwall bit of a derby and I expect charlton to play alot better..i fancy a draw.

Ive backed both Southampton and QPR for relegation , so Im hoping Liverpool can oblige with a win  although under normal circumstances I wouldnt want to be backing Liverpool at long odds on.

Quite like the logic of opposing both teams to score in QPR game  (I assume you mean Villa and not Sunderland )...think the price is about right @2.06ish so to small stakes

There are a few factors I fancy Chelsea strong today . One of the main reasons is I really dont like West Hams style of play and feel they are vunerable to a good passing side .They have had the luck with them so far this season and as a team  feel there is value opposing them. Chelsea have a bunch of tricky superstars and on there day can turn any defence inside out and with the enigma that is Rafa Benitez they have a manager with an incredible portfolio of Trophies (including The Champions League with Liverpool)

So is Rafa up to the Job ? (or did he get Lucky winning all those trophies ?)

Having watched a lot of Liverpool when he was manager Im sure Im not alone in thinking at the time "What the hell is he doing ?" with his tactics and team selection I considered his managerial style indifferent, however having spoke to a lot of people "in the know "they think he is the real deal and is seemingly very well respected  within in the game. So if he has got the magic touch and is now re united with Torres I feel this could be the perfect chance to make his mark.

Views on Rafa ?

West Ham for me at home a team I would not want to be against. Only lost 1-0 away to Man Utd in the week, Chelsea weak up front with Torres and a smaller pitch.

Would be an idea to look at West Ham results against 'passing' teams & Chelsea result against Stoke?

Might have a quick look now

His Valencia team was my favourite (non Swansea) team of all time and he did achieve some pretty remarkable things at Liverpool. Really good manager imo, although not up there with the Mourinho´s, Ferguson´s or Capello´s of this world.

I think in general West Ham are poor, flattered by their league position and overrated in the market most weeks. This week though it looks about spot on to me and is therefore no bet.

I've gone in again and laid chelsea@10-11 on the machine.

Think the Carroll news has made the market over react.

Cole can be a handful on his day, am also glad oscar is not playing from my bet's point of view.

Def wldnt put it past him.

Could go out of the champs league this week and then faces a tough away match to Sunderland next week.

Wld be abso com if he pulled the trigger again, pure fantasy football management.

Not sure how tough Sunderland away is these days.  Think there is a fairly significant chance they get 9-12 points out of next five games in which case he should be fine.  Lose two on the bounce though and he will be lucky to continue.

I put this in Tikays thread but I'll mention it here too.
I'm not sure why but Paddy Power are still pricing West Ham at 23/10 to beat Pool even though Suarez is suspended for the game. Every other firm has cut their prices from ~5/2 to ~2/1.

Quote
Newcastle's growing list of absentees now includes James Perch, who is banned after picking up a fifth booking.
Yohan Cabaye, Shola Ameobi (both groin), Steven Taylor, Hatem Ben Arfa (both hamstring) and Gabriel Obertan (toe) are among those missing.

I don't know what the price should be and I wouldn't touch this game but we have to win tonight, and I think we will, but that's more blind optimism than anything else.

I fancy Wigan but have played with 365 on the asians @1.875/7/8-must get a 188 account as they are 1.9/9/10.

I backed Wigan versus City last week and for the first 60 minutes they were the better team.

Bad finishing and City's better class did for them, but overall I was really impressed with Martinez's side.

Newcastle have a terrible injury record at the moment, and altho Wigan have problems in that area too, they aren't missing such key squad members as the home side are.

Newcastle this season are certainly no Man City. Yet the markets seem to indicate they are far the better side here, almost as if they haven't priced in those injury problems.

I have dabbled on Wigan at 4.1 on the machine and have even had a flutter on-1@11.0.

However, I think the main value is in backing Wigan on the asians as the draw is a huge player here too.

I fancy Wigan+0.5 on the asian handicap@1.875+.

Like most of the bookies that offer this bet in similar markets, I make it nearer a 8/11-4/6 shot at best.

Other peeps thoughts?

I like Wigan when they are long odds, everything favours a win for them tonight. But I have a nagging feeling Newcastle are simply due a performance. Against a backdrop of injuries and lack of form .

This has gotten no comment in the Tikay thread so I'll put it here too.

Champions league.

The 1st two teams in the betting are Barca (13/5) and Real (7/2), the next 2 are German, Bayern (8/1), Dortmund (9/1). Then we get the English, French, Italian, Portugese, Ukrainian teams.
Keep going down and we arrive at the 3rd German team, Shalke 04, who can be backed @ 66/1.

If we look at the German league, Bayern are cruising and look the dominant team.
Then comes Leverkusen, then Dortmund and Schalke in 3rd and 4th separated by 2 points.

So we have 2 German teams, both of whom have qualified for last 16 and likely to top their groups (albeit Dortmunds was much tougher), looking like they are similarly matched in their national league and yet one is 9/1 4th favs for the Champs league and the other is 66/1 12th favs.
And Schalke didn't play Champs league last year but 2 years ago were beaten by Man United in the semi finals.
We all know the Germans are coming (in a couple of years they may be the dominant league in Europe?) but is there value here on Schalke, or conversely, are Dortmund too short?

The only league I know anything about is the Premier league and I don't even watch Champs League, let alone the Bundseliga so perhaps the prices are correct but would welcome other views.

Worry not Dazzy, it WILL get comment from me tomorrow, as I think it s a great spot.

I already have a small interest in Dortmund at a fancy price, and you have found a real price anomoly here. At that price a small interest is near mandatory, even if only for trading purposes. They only have to win once in the ko stages and 66/1 will become 12/1.

Something I've just seen mentioned. There is a team in the Champions League that were recently relegated for match fixing. Juventus. A draw tonight suits both them and their opponents, Shaktar, whereas a defeat could well see the loser knocked out. The draw in that game is about evens, far shorter than you'd expect a draw to be in any game...  ;carlocitrone;

You could lay Man Utd at 5-2ish so effectively you are backing City and the draw @ 2 -5( less commission) which  is a considerable difference to 4-6 but as you've said you win if its a draw.....different bets but both relative in price

Both teams are in the promotion hunt in each league, Rotherham was expected to win theirs, early pre-season favourites.

County at home to Rotherham, but Rotherham are better on the road than at home, hopefully they do not turn up.

probably on for a £50 double with Cheltenham & County late on, anyone any views, please post before. Think 20/19 is good price considering simple dynamics here.

According to the bibs theory, Joe Cole is going to start against Villa this weekend.
There may be some value in him as 1st goalscorer @ 9/1 with both Paddy Power and Bet365, generally 6/1-15/2.

I posted on TfT saying

Barnsley 0 clean sheet in 10

Wednesday 1 clean sheet in 10 & 1 in 20.

4/6 for both teams to score looks a half decent price, even at odds on.

Having made money from opposing Wednesday at home recently I'm a bit more cautious about the game at Barnsley. Think the odds are about right.

Do you ask about those particular games for a reason?

Thanks guys,

These aren't really strong enough of the T4T thread but they provoked a bit of thought/musing and a couple of small bets.

That Weds game looks pretty tough but I did think Barnsley were value at 13/8 even tho Weds long losing run has been mainly against v good teams in the Div. I thought it was a pretty solid 2.4 or so given the Div is running at about 5/4 the home as a starting price. The 2.4 allowed for the derby factor but VC were 13/8 Barnsley earlier which I thought was ok for a small bet. This might not be a factor but they have given Leeds two proper tonkings in the last two derby games at Oakwell and this should be a bigger rivalry. They haven't scored more than one goal in any home game this season tho which helped to keep it small.

That County game just looks like one of the tightest matches in that league this year to me. Only one team has drawn more games than these two teams so far. The draw is running at about 5/2 in that league so far(28%) but this looks like a short draw to me given those stats, the last 2 seasons were 1-1, in fact the last four times this fixtures has taken place in 5 years it has been 1-1. That might show there is very little between these teams which was my impression anyway. County also on a run of drawing a few games.

Anyway, it looked a short draw and it is the shortest priced draw fixed odds in that league this weekend but was 5/2 on BF earlier which I thought was too big given that is the Div average at the moment, tho I ended up taking 3.45 for most of it in the end.

If you are around Chip Prince I wondered if you had seen any of these teams recently?

cheers

Hi Bobby, only just seen this, and I haven't seen either actually!

I've only been back watching L1 games since the start of November so have only seen 6/7 teams at the mo.

Walsall, for T4T to be relegated is looking tasty at 7/1 having seen them at Coventry last saturday then at home v Yeovil on sat. They play Colchester on saturday which is an important as they are struggling at bit too.

Cheers Chip,

I almost went to the County game myself but the timings were too tight in the end, would have been a bad day made worse by the late winner.

ps can you please find Sheff Utd another striker and a creative midfielder please  ;)

Im liking Newcastle at home @11-10 against QPR who havent won on the road in any competition for well over a year( quite incerdible)

Feel QPRs win against Fulham could be a false dawn and they could be exposed even by an indifferent Newcastle team at St James Park

Interested in other peoples views as 11=10 seem on the right side of value

In the past the st James crowd would be a lift but I think it's affecting players confidence at mo an there defending is really poor. Watching brief my advise !

Playing an awful lot better since Harry put the old guard (Hill, Derry and Mackie) back in and gave Taarabt a free role.

Nelsen playing great at the back, so is Green.

Need a striker badly, but while Adel is in the form he's in, he can score from anywhere.

Couldn't back a woeful and injury riddled Newcastle team at 11/10.

Agre they ar poor, and Taarabt is off to the ANC soon, which is a big blow.

But there are alot of poor teams in the league, if Harry can get in a decent striker and a decent central defender (Dawson or Samba), I think there's every chance of staying up

Really Like Stoke to beat Southamon on Saturday @ 5-6.

This looks pretty big considering how well they played at home to Liverpool

Stoke havent lost in their last 9 premier league games keeping 5 clean sheets and winning 4 out of their last 5 home games whereas Southampton are really struggling away from home

Im pretty sure people will latch onto this bet and consider it value even at 4-5

First time I've watched Stoke play for a whole match and thought they were very impressive, or Liverpool were just very poor.

A mate of mine was telling me to get on Stoke and that 3/1 was ridiculous against Liverpool, in fairness he was right and it probably should have been Liverpool who were 3/1!

Cheers Teacake...Im comitted to Stoke now...actually on 3 -0 , 4 -0 , 5 -0 , 6 - 0 too

Southampton haven't conceded more than one goal in any of their last 8 league matches. And in their last 9 league games, only once has there been more than 2 goals in the game.
When Stoke scored 3 against Pool, it was the 1st time in 44 (I think?) league matches they had scored more than 2 goals in a game. And in their last 10 league games, only twice has there been more than 2 goals in the game and only 4 times in their 19 league games this season.

Of course anything may happen, but this is one game where I am all over the unders.

Rodgers has a bug and misses the game, and against Stoke they looked woeful.

QPR seem to have improved a little under Harry and will surely be a toughish nut to crack today.

Am going to lay the reds at 1.88 and feel pretty good about it.

From that report only reserve keeper Jones, but still can't be the best prep for the squad.

My only worry is Nelsen reportedly has flu and may not start for the hoops-massive player for them.

Not putting this on Tikay's thread as it slightly unusual, and a touch risky.

Izale McLeod Top League 1 scorer - 16/1.

Has 10 goals currently.

1
David McGoldrick
Coventry City
 16

2
Clayton Donaldson
Brentford
12

3
Nick Blackman
Sheffield United
11

3
Jake Cassidy
Tranmere Rovers
11

3
Leon Clarke
Coventry City
11

6
Lewis Grabban
Bournemouth
10

6
Paddy Madden
Yeovil Town
10

6
Izale McLeod
Portsmouth
10

Now, this a funny market and we're gambling that David McGoldrick, who has returned to Forest, will move to another Champ club and not return back to Coventry.

Added to this, Jake Cassidy has returned for Wolves, for now, and Leon Clarke has only signed a 28 day loan with Coventry.

McLeod has today signed for MK Dons on an 18 month deal.

Interesting one, can look half-arsed somedays, but has signed for a team that'll make lots of chances and has scored 40 odd goals in 2 years.

Already highlighted that I think Villa are a good price at EVS, but now a little lower at 10/11. Lambert has said he is going for the win, so expecting a team out.

Not really much to go on for tomorrow. My own team Wednesday are at home to MK & according to Dave Jones we are going to go for it & have had decent results against MK last season, playing them off the park in both games last season & picking up four points. I may back us, but price is not amazing, as expecting a full side out for us at 13/11.

Furthermore... One I really like...

Palace v Stoke

The Palace fans have been telling us that they are putting a reserve side out for this game & Stoke already have bagged up 29 points and look very safe in the Premier League at the moment. The fans say Zaha, Murray and Bolasie are all not going to be playing & probably a few more. I would expect a very decent side out for Stoke and price look OK at 29/18.

A few Palace fans quotes for you:

I heard tickets are selling very slowly. Im going to sound tinpot myself but £20 to watch our reserves against an under strength Stoke side is a bit much for me.

I expect us to be competitive but without Zaha, Murray, Bolasie etc you would expect Stoke to have enough to see us off.

Should be a good test for both sides. I'd expect us to give some of the squad players (Wilbraham, Easter, Moxey etc.) a run out.

Not too bothered about progressing into the Fourth Round. Just hope it's a good game of football

What's different about Chris Coleman? Is he parting his hair the other way?

Didn't Coleman lose a wife to the clutches of man hunk Geoff Horsfield?

Quite like the look of under 2.5 goals in that game, other than that I'm not so sure of the outcome.  Stoke defence been abit leaky of that, still don't score many on the road though, and swansea will have an eye on the league cup game coming up with a great chance of progressing to the final.  Not of much help but i fancy a low scoring affair.

Neil Lennon to replace David Moyes?

Lot of money for him.
