Title: Tales of Poker from the Luton G - 2013
Post by: Drain Alien on January 01, 2013, 08:07:04 PM
As a starter, does anyone have the new 2013 schedule? (the website has today's comp only <standard>).
TIA.

All - feel free to post any known/observed results on here - whether you were in it or not - along with general tourney reports, and anything else of potential interest to Luton G Regs/Players.

NOTE: You are not allowed to take the piss out of Chompy on this thread.................... Ok, maybe a bit....

Drainy x
(Darren Allen)

PS - HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL !!!!

Haven't been to the G in ages.

Do they still have the televised feature table?

Is Niall still in the card room?

Is the poker room still upstairs?

I saw a sign for Luton when I was driving to Gatwick a few months ago.

Pretty sure this qualifies me for an entry on page 1.

All the regular guarantees have gone        .......       Genting to capitalise?

Let's hope that all the good work put in by George, and gang, in the last 2 years isn't going to whisk the cardroom Forward to the Past - as the 'age old problem' of The G Casino Management's Myopia rears it's facile head, yet again!

No, but you get entry for getting totally owned by the 109 year old Evil Edna at Luton in the cash game.

Matt - I'm going to test how much I need to raise pre @ 50p - £1 to get Edna off pre-flop. I make it £630 to go.

There may have been a modicum of embellishment there.......best ask Evil Pie, of the night the two Evil's clashed, Evil Pie v Evil Edna.

Only one winner there.

Incidentally, I hope you have met Edna? Living Legend in Luton.

Pretty much true Carl. Can't remember exact amounts now, but Matt had had enough of the Luton Limp Callers brigade, and decided to just move most of his stack in. May well have been more than £600.Think it was 1/2 rather than 50/1 but no difference really. StuartHopkin was on the cash game and Mondatoo too, where he folded for 86 hands in a row and Edna told him he was just taking up a seat and should let someone sit there that was gonna play. :)

Mmmmmm     ......      what a horrible, horrible, 'choice' of comps on offer in Luton tonight!

The G;

£25 Nlh 20k Superstack Bounty Freezeout. Re-entry X1. (£20 To Prizepool. £5 Bounty)    .....       no guarantee.

Stanley's;

£25 NLH 22k Mega-Stack Turbo Freezeout. Re-entry X1.              ......                   £800 Prize Pool Guaranteed.

Now do I;

a) Stay in and watch some Mincing Fruit bake a phuqqin apple tart on BBC 2, like Chompy?

b) Go off to support the guarantee offering room?

c) Torture an earwig?

(last night's G  tourny report     ....     2 x MAS in attendance     .....    2 x MAS make FT      .......      2 x MAS cash        .....         standard!)

Earwig Paul. Easy.

Drainy's tourney report from last night...

1. Got asked if I'd just come from a gay bar by Luther.
2. Chris: "Drainy, would you be ok to buy Ben Pope in, as is going to be late". "Yes, of course" says I.
3. Got some chips early on.
4. Drunk some of their new Cider (not bad imo)
5. Lost of all my chips to Ben Pope. <sigh>
6. Whilst waiting for Mrs Drainy, did a Deano/Gavlar on Poolette. Wiiiiiiiiiii. EZ game.

There were 58 runners in the Thursday competition, just to clarify. Which made £1160 in the prizepool, and £290 in bounties.

But yeah. We've no guaranteed tournaments in January, unfortunately. Out of my hands.

Our league comes in to effect from February, as does the Cash Game Jackpot league. (£.50p from every pot of £20 + is taken and played for in a freeroll at the end of every month).

This will also see the return of the guarantees, provided the upper echelons are satisfied that we are not, in fact, seeing the return of the ice age this winter.

Agreed, nothing tilts me more than being "forced" to do a bubble saver then getting belittled if you say no or getting peer pressure - no offence to poster but it is so tilting - almost as much as Chompy trying to do a 20 way chop. I respect people that say gtfo.  If you need the min cash don't play imo

Cheers Graham,

Loofah's Friday night itinerary has currently changed from poker to joining the Beer-gut Boogie Boys, bopping away to Lennie on the decks, down the boozer     ....     not a pretty sight.

Also, it's the Gentings Monthly @ Stanley's this weekend with a £10k guarantee so any poker funds will be devoted to the Dunstable card-room on Saturday.

As for 'midweek numbers' - yup I heard they were getting disastrous    ....     apparently down to single figures registered at commencement on occasion.

Overheard last night, "the winner of the G League has got a month of Sit N' Gos to look forward to    ....."

George and his staff must be getting well pissed off     .....       they build       ....      G Casino management destroy!

Did they really think the customers were going to be 'queuing out the doors' when the guarantees were chucked to one side?

7.30 start times    ....       gross stupidity      ....       what player in their right mind - who can't make it 'on time' - is going to lay out good money to join a comp (in some cases 8k starting stack) where the 'prompt' have got 2k earlybird bonus chips?

"Turn up on time", you all say      ....      "GTFO", said the CUSTOMERS - and went elsewhere!

It's gone from comps having up to five self deal tables needed to supplement the G staff on duty in December, to two table tournaments within a month!

I don't know what the business plan is at Luton G - or if they've ever had one - but in any other walk of life Senior Management would be out on their ear, with such miserable performance.

But hey ho   ....      it's the G - we've all  'been there' innumerable times over the last five years.

There's been Staff/Player meetings   ....    the players have persistently tried to help, suggest and cajole better practice, and infuse new ideas.

But like some Soviet era monolith the Luton G dismisses all the alerts, and steams "all engines full ahead" towards the rocks, blissfully unaware of reality.

Unfortunately, the players - after five years of trying to get the Captain to alter course - have 'given up' released the lifeboats and rowed away from the doomed ship.

All very sad    .....     and very avoidable!

The 7.30PM start time has worked out well, and I certainly don't think you can attribute that aspect to a decline. It is ultimately, and understandably, the removal of guaranteed prizepools that has impacted upon the venue.

Significant, mostly, because Genting capatalised on the occasion by putting guaranteed prizepools on their competitions. While I can understand the appeal to the player, it is worth noting that the stance was that it was better to make it known that we weren't guaranteeing our competitions as opposed to having to remove them in the event of something occuring beyond our control - this ultimately being severe weather conditions that caused us trouble the same time last year.

We've never not honoured our guarantees, and while it is not likely appreciated it remains something that we alone in Luton are able to say.

That being said, March is a new month and it will see an end to the most extreme of the weather conditions.

We're kicking it off with our £100 NLH with a guaranteed prizepool of £15,000.

Day 1A - Friday 1st March at 7PM
Day 1B - Saturday 2nd March at 4PM

25,000 chips. 40 min clock. Playing for 10 levels. Alternates for 6 levels. Re-Entry allowed.

Day 2 - Sunday 3rd March - 2PM.

The 7.30 kick off works well. In fact, it was requested by a lot of players, through the players/management group. It means comps finished an hour earlier. The late finishes were putting some people off attending.

What happened to the players/management group? I took part in one very productive session, with some good changes implemented. We were promised a copy of the report, which I never did see, despite giving up my own time to attend. There was then another session lined up, that I was not invited to. I'm not sure if there have been any held since then.

As to the current problems in the card room, there are numerous reasons for that. The weather doesn't help, but can't be held responsible for the drop in number, nor can it be used an excuse by the decision makers to just drop the guarantees. I doubt that's even the real reason the guarantees were dropped in the first place.

We are almost through the second month of no guarantees. What's the plans for March? I'm guessing as George hasn't mentioned in his post above, then it's only the monthly deep stack that is gonna have a guarantee? So that will be a third month of absolute shite at the G.

I obviously don't know the figures, or what the overlay in guarantees was for last year, but surely there has been a loss of income suffered in the card room since the turn of the year? The cash games are an absolute joke, and it seems nothing has been done to address this. Having a 25/25 game is laughable. It killed the 1/2 game, and on Friday, which is normally a decent night for 1/2, we couldn't get a game going. There was one 1/1 game, and although the rake for the casino was probably still the same, it is stopping punters attending, as they know there will be little chance, if any of getting a decent cash game.

Even when big events are held at the g, there doesn't seem to be enough staff on duty, to cater for the needs of the customers. Most noticeably at the recent APAT event, there were 20 people waiting for a cash game to start for two hours, and no dealers to start it.

I like to think I've been a decent supporter of the card room for a few years now, and I've always been quick to defend it, either on here, Facebook or elsewhere. Events of the last few months have left me unable to defend it much more. Too many regulars, who barely spend anything are happy to sit there and moan about the place, and advise others where the good value comps and cash games are, are still being treated well because management are scared to get rid of them. And then make ridic decisions in their favour, because its the easy option.

Last Friday, the comp was set up wrong, for whatever reason. When this was pointed out, I was laughed at by one member of staff, who said nothing could be done to change it. It turns out that this was not the case, more a reluctance to change it. I asked to speak to one of the managers, but was unable to, as they were both in meetings. Even when they were finished from their meeting, neither had the decency to come and ask what the problem was, but sent raj over to deal with it. The same person who laughed at me on Friday, then laughed again, and did nothing tonight when I reported clear collusion between two people. Then stood there and watched as I argued the point with one of the people involved.

I've heard nothing good about the g from anyone recently, only people moaning about how bad it's got. When are the management going to do something about it? Are they even bothered what happens to the card room?  I get the impression they aren't.

I feel sorry for the staff, I really do. They are a great bunch of people, who are good at what they do. Apart from the spanner that sits and grins, and shrugs their shoulders when things are complained about.

What's the plan for the league in march? And who's decision was that in the first place?  100 points for beating 70 runners on a Friday, and 100 points for beating 10 runners on a Wednesday? Genius. Even the comedy blonde league was run better by chompy, in fact, it was run better by drainy. And we all remember what a complete arse he made of that! :)

Sorry to rant on, but I'm sick of seeing the place the way it is, and no one seemingly cares, or wants to do anything about it. Get rid of the dregs and start rewarding the people that go there and want to see the card room doing well.

Will see if I can make it to that 15k tournie in March.

During the last GUKPT Festival, the place was rammed for the 6 max event.  Now I realise that these events are very hard to organise because of dealers, but would it be possible to have a monthly 6 max?  If the BI was 150/200 I think that as 6 max is so rarely offered live it could bring in a lot of new blood.

Keep seeing spamming on FB about this 25/25 series.  Is this likely to come to Luton?

When I first starting coming to Luton there were 3 events that I enjoyed.  I think on a Wednesday is was a 50 turbo/Friday a 75 and a Sunday was a 100.  These all got very good numbers.  I personally find the tournies on offer not really worth traveling for, and it seems that the rival room in Luton has mainly lower BI comps.  Do you think that pulling away and trying to go for higher BIs could help.

BTW I know this sounds a bit silly coming from someone who rarely comes to the G now, but as I can't guarantee that a game will be running I may as well go play in London.  Even Reading now has ok-ish 1/2 action.

RE the G's downturn, George has two problems:

1. Despite his good intentions, he clearly has no support from mamagenent.
2. Bad news breeds bad news. People hear or read that the players are going elsewhere, so they themselves go elsewhere.

We have only been once recently and based on the poor turn out dont intend to return any time soon.

I would imagine they were losing money overall via the GTEEs, which is why management have stopped them.

What they fail to realise is that me not going will kill their bar action. Q1 takings will be massively down!

Gg G. :(

I was one of these. Ended up playing a self deal 1/1 cash game. By then the wait had lost some enthusiasm, spent an hour or so losing half my wedge and stood up having not enjoyed the experience. I not been since and have cancelled plans twice to come play the cash games, partly because of this.

It has always surprised me that cash games aren't given more of a push there.

Jim McShane offered a great suggestion saying that there should be 1 dealer/table who is ready at a table with chips ready to sell to players so they can get started ASAP.  So many people can't be bothered/too tilted to wait around.

G casino`s have seen an increase in footfall,spend-per-head,food and drink revenue,Gaming machine takings, in what are clearly the most difficult of times currently

The only side of the business to have seen a decrease in revenue? You guessed it the "Card Room"

Card rooms generate by far the least ammount of revenue to Rank Leisure,Food and Drink takes nearly double the ammount the card room generates accross the board

If you look at the ammount of room a card room uses, theres a hell of a lot of dead space there doing nothing, with Luton`s G granted the licence to expand its Slot Machines and Gaming tables how long will it be before the card room is dramatically reduced in size to accommodate the new, larger Gaming areas?

Granted,it appears they dont take into consideration the "Chandra" effect of losing at poker and doing 4 k in 20 minutes on the tables, but people like him are few and far between nowadays

I dont think the number crunchers at Rank see poker as long term sustainable income for their business model, looking at tournament numbers in general, with or without guarantees they may have a point, they would probably sight the GUKPT`S decline as an example of why poker isnt currently top of their list for investment and growth

Tournaments for Show, Cash Games for Dough.

Tournament reg fees arent enough to pay the bills in any cardroom, im sure even DTD will testify to this, Vic doesnt really care for them, any normal comp they run they get over as quick as they can. So where does a poker room make its money from, well its the cash games obv. So why doesnt the G know this?

They dont have enough dealers because they cant afford dealers as the room doesnt make enough money.

Twice this week i have seen full table cash games closed down as the dealers have to go home as they cant be paid overtime. They can afford to have 8-10 dealers for hours on end losing money to run the tournament, but when it comes to the cash game which is now finally running after people waiting hours for the game to start and generating a profit for the room they decide to close the table down. It doesnt make any sense and as we always say, it wouldnt happen on blackjack or roulette so why does it happen in the poker room.

Its so easy for a room to lose its reputation both in cash games and tournaments and it is a very hard thing to get back. Personally i never understand why all the promotions run by a card room are done for the tournament players and nothing is done to promote the cash games, after all this is where the profit is made.

The cardroom has been turned into a social club by too many people recently and the room has done nothing to stop this. People spend the night in the room with no money in their pocket, just there to shelter from the rain and drink free cups of coffee. Staff spend their time looking after people who arent generating any money for the room, until the policy of the casino changes from looking after the correct people instead of just trying to get anyone in through the door.

When a room gets a rep for a hot action cash game word gets round quickly and the game can grow fast. Personally, if i was running the room id ban certain players who kill games as they refuse to play short handed, and are action killers in the game, the room should run the game not certain players that kill the action and play when it suits them.

Im sure that management are unaware of 99% of the problems in the cardroom and im sure they see the room as a burden. Id love it if on any given night a manager had to spend the whole night in the cardroom to see the issues 1st hand. To see them as they happen and not just have to deal another poker player moaning at them making complaints.

The room needs someone in it with the power and authority to run it on a daily basis, George gets crapped on from all angles in my opinion and doesnt get the support that he needs. Either give him his head and let him run the room as a manager or bring in an actual cardroom manager to run the room. Too often recently an issue has come up in the cardroom and as the staff running the room dont have the authority to answer the response is, if its an issue for you take it up with a manager.

Adey: Poker players eat, drink, and gamble on the house games      .....      Grosvenor Magagement seem blissfully unaware of this fact!

I went to the G last night (only for the Omaha) and - bar a fair turnout in the card room - the pit staff outnumbered the punters, and all those rows and rows of shiny, flashing, beeping, burping machines weren't earning a dime.

As for the GUKPT     .....     a classic example of downright Grosvenor gross negligence.

They had the Premiere Tour in the UK, and through sheer bloody incompetence allowed the opposition to surge past them!

Jim - I agree with much of what you say     ....      but you seem to 'overlook' it's the comps that bring the punters in, not the cash tables!

But the rest of it - yup spot on.

I've lost count the amount of times I've shrugged my shoulders and gone home, because there was no dealer 'available' (on one occasion we watched as two dealers went to 'lunch', and were told to wait till they came back - six cash players immediately left).

Further, I've lost count the amount of times 'there was no dealer available'    ....    but there were two 'runners' as well as a Card room Supervisor whose duties appeared to be gazing at the computer monitor on the desk.

I've regularly been in cash games that were shut down early      ....     only to walk past groups of pit staff - sans punters - standing about doing bugger all in the early hours.

They won't pay the staff overtime in the card-room - but they won't get the 'unemployed' pit wallahs to multi-task!

Sums it up really.

i think that used to be the case but not any longer, in terms of the comps bringing in players to make the cash games. The comp buyins  are so small that players turn up with enough money in their pockets to cover the buyin and a sandwich. When the cash games do run these days its made up of a high % of players that have come just for the cash game, or maybe played the comp waiting for the cash game to start.

Ryan how much more likely are you to attend on a fri night if you know for certain their will be a 1-2 nlh game running when you arrive, even if it means waiting for a seat?

I wasn`t giving an opinion, just trying to see how i think the number crunchers in head office view the card rooms in general

Ive heard all these concerns 1000 times before, not a lot changes after an initial month or so of extra effort, allways seems to slip back to where it was before,if not slightly worse

Jim wants his cash games sorting out,and can see from the frontline how easy that could be achieved with a bit of common sense and discussion with the players, never happens though does it?

I think youve got a business model making money and increasing revenue and turnover year on year, and whilst the bean counters are head nodding in approval, then farting around with hairy arsed moaning poker players isnt a priority

They can have as much free tea and coffee as they like, the hope is they might put a score in a slot on the way out

I stopped going when they reduced the structure of the tournaments. Average stack on the final table is around 10bb's which means most just wants to deal and go home. Understandable when everyone is short stacked but does not not make me want to play the comps anymore.

I would attend if there were cash games running but as already said by others chances are they are not or close early.

I have often thought that the G is missing an opportunity re cash games as there seems to be or was a decent player pool in the area. Venues make money from cash games but they need to be well organised and staffed.

Shame really because I like the card room, the staff and the Regs but I have to go where he action is so its off to London every night where I rarely wait longer than 5 or 10 minutes for a £1/2 cash game and play around the clock if I want to.

If things were different I would play at Luton.

British Gas

Forty Year Heater

Not sure who emerged victorious from what promised to be a high-class affair though.

Hi,

It's a bank holiday weekend so we can expect a busy weekend at Grosvenor G Luton. We had 103 runners for our £25 NLH Bounty competition. We had 3x £.50-£1 NLH cash games going all night, too. Could have had more, but we were a little stretched for space as we had to move up to the Sports Lounge for the evening.

Anyhow, back to normal and it's Good Friday. The £40 with the optional £20 R/A is tonight at 7.30 PM. Expecting 100+ runners for this tournament, but we'll have ample space. Late reg until 9.00PM.

Saturday 30th March at 4PM is Day 1A of our monthly £100 NLH 1x Re-entry with a £15,000 guaranteed prizepool.
Sunday 31st March at 4PM will be Day 1B. Both starting flights play 10 levels, with all those making it through returning on Bank Holiday Monday at 4PM to fight for their share of the prize money.

We typically get 100+ on both start days. I am not sure which will be the busier, as we generally do it on Fri/Sat. That being said, numbers are always 220+ so it'll be a great prizepool.

I also just want to add that we are going to be returning to guaranteed tournaments from the 1st May. I appreciate that this has taken some time, and we do apologise for the delay. Reasons beyond our control, I am afraid (such as needing time to recruit and train the dealers), but the positive is that we are bringing them back. Friday's £40 with £20 r/a is going to be guaranteed at £5,000 and Sunday £50 will be £4,000, to name two.

I'll let everyone know the schedule going forwards, but there's a busy weekend for us to get through first.

Hope to see you this weekend!

5 hours at the wheel of death sure woulda been a good idea :(

Anyway, George when's it all changing in the cardroon ????

Only 3 tables last night (not surprising given that Genting had exactly the same comp but with a 1k gtee - I found this out too late)

Tourney cancelled the night before....

:(

Any news?

Hope to see you this weekend!

from 1st may drainy

Hi,

We've made a sudden change to our weekend tournament schedule - which is no doubt going to overlay - but there's some fantastic value to be had.

£50 NLH. 1 x Re-Entry. £10,000 Guaranteed.

Saturday 25th May - Day 1 A - 6PM start. 50K chips. 12 levels played. 30 minute structure. Late entries and Re-entry for the
first 6 levels.

Sunday 26th May - Day 1 B - 6PM start. 50K chips. 12 levels played. 30 minute structure. Late entries and Re-entry for the first 6 levels.

Monday 27th May - Day 2 - 2PM Start.

The 1-Day £50 NLH - £4,000 GTD tournament is now at 5PM!

Thanks.

Vinny already sort of replied, but the PLO in the DC is 4, 5 or 6, by choice, straight & 8 or better, ditto.

I've not played it for a while, but it seems to be mostly 4 card high, & 6 card Hi-Lo.

The line-up varies enormously, but when certain players sit in, the game gets very loose, &, in relative terms (to me, anyway) quite big. 2 of the regulars are very solid indeed, the rest mostly just like to gamble.

The Table company is reasonably pleasant.

I have not played that game for 6 months or so, but the 2 guys you'll struggle to get chips off would be Chinese Simon, & Jim McShane, imo. I would suggest that they are both extremely competent & technically correct.

Gino, of course, when he plays, is ultra tight.

Personally social media is pretty crucial IMO.  If its a staffing issue, why not get a trusted regular to run an official update page and chuck them a couple of free tournie entries for the effort?

I would also really like to see an active twitter/facebook account that updates the cash games running every hour or so.  Such a simple job that someone can do in under a minute and keeps everyone in the loop.

EDIT: It's something that won't increase numbers in the short term, but being constantly in peoples conciousness via twitter or facebook is huge.  A few weeks ago I was stuck for something to do, and I saw the Genting Reading post that there was a 1/2 that had just started with 3 seats free. I'd never played cash there before, so I got in the car and there I was doing a 12 hour session raking away constantly and deep in the night 2 other guys came purely the facebook posts.

Cheers Vinnie, I may try and play both, well technically try and win the afternoon one, but in reality be out safely in time for early evening registration!

Yuk, the air conditioning's down in the card room at the G.

Mobile air con machine installed.

Problem solved?

Nope!

In 'true Luton G tradition' the positioning of the unit is between the door & the cash-desk (reassuringly far away from the customers).

Result: players - hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable; card room supervisor - temperate.

Probably the only occasion @ Luton where I've ever commented, "Kalam's cool".

With only 29 runners (phuqq being there on a Friday), the place smelt worse than Barat's armpits!

George, could you post when the problem's resolved (or re-name it Satish's Sauna)?

Shan't be in any great rush to return until fixed    .....

Overall. a piss poor 'customer experience'.

And feel the heat you will, Chris.

There's a pub league thingy on all day, and with the hottest weekend of the year due, expect to see Kallam - resplendent in St John's Ambulance Brigade garb - tenderly stroking the casualties foreheads in the G carpark, waiting for the helicopters to land.

You'll sweat heavier than a Tory MP in a fetish suit getting his daily bottom spanking!

Congratulations to Graham 'two more (chopped?) flags' Wheldon on his triumphant return from Vegas.

Having totally ripped Nevada to shreds, there are rumours around the cardrooms of SE England that the prize-money comfortably covered a visit to the barber shop, AND his cab fare back to the airport.

Odds of 8/13 - that Barat's current stay will bink more lolly and wavey rags - are currently being offered on Betfair.

Lump on!

Watching some wsop main event action from 2007 and realised Luton play these days would have been T the cutting edge back then... With blinds 150-300 Chris ferguson And Robert varkoni both world champions are in a hand.. Varkoni has AK and ferguson has JJ... 2200 in the pot pre flop flop is KQ7 rainbow and varkoni moves all in for 19k more and gets called Lolz wtf!

They've been working on the air conditioning today, and I believe it's due for completion tomorrow.

From what I understand, the entire air-condition unit was made bespoke for the premises and so, due to the cooling unit failing they had to have it custom built - it wasn't something that they could grab off of a shelf.

Anyhow, should be all sorted for tomorrow.

Ermmmmm      ......     which one of the seven dwarfs are you named after Drainy?

I know that up there in rural Snorebens you gaze up  at that Orange Orb in the Azure in an attempt to fathom out what season, or approximate time zone, you're in -  but, the rest of us go a bundle on that new-fangled Gregorian Calendar lark.

If this concept is still a tad complicated, I'll drop a little 'Let's help the Befuddled' hint - look at the dates     ...................      (Drainy promptly pops off to Sainsbury's in London Colney - only to be told the Xmas food range is never stocked before 31st of August, and therefore remains none the wiser!)

Love and Kisses      .....        to your Missus.

Are the seats won transferrable either to another player or a different leg?

Hi,

Afraid they're not transferable.

We had 106 entries for the £40+£5 NLH Satellite.

We were £80 short for a 6th Main Event seat, so we added the difference.

It's the big 20 GUKPT Main Event seats satellite on Sunday 6th October at 4PM.

Not only is it guaranteed at 20 seats, but it's Sharky's Night - so there's an extra £1050 in added seats for the event!

Thanks, and hopefully see you soon.

Will there be security laid on to keep the queue-jumpers (Chompy et al) in order at one minute before the re-buy period ends, George?

Much as I'd like to, not sure I can be arksed to drive 30miles to join in with 30x on a 20min clock. Glgl those that partake.

Fair point, bad players aren't able to adjust. Think the sat should have 50k for people like chompy.

Oh, any idea who won the 6 seats up for grabs on Friday?

Craig Sarginson plus five randoms.

50k stack much more like it. How is one sposed to limp call a rise to 800 during level one with only 2k?

Hi All,

We had 93 players in the end for the £50 NLH Rebuy Super Satellite for the GUKPT Main Event.

We added a total of £7,600 to the Prizepool - plus a further addition of £1,050 from the GUKPT.

Thanks to all those that supported the event. We will see you all next week, I am sure.

Sad to see that you couldn't quite get there.

I'll probably be attending most events during the festival, def the 300/200 6 max and the main.

Hope that you enjoy a really busy run up during the next few days.

Would be nice to see some bigger cash going too. A deep 1/2, 1/3 or 2/5.

George, any chance you can get someone can adjust the bloody air-con in the cardroom?

It was like playing poker in a sauna last night

All the tournament players cramped into the section with the lowest ceiling, and a load of empty tables (waiting for cash) in the higher ceiling area where the ventilation 'half works'.

Totally uncomfortable facilities laid on for the 'mere' tourny boys     ...     priority for the cash players    ...     as usual.

Get someone (out, if necessary) to tweek the controls - all air-con systems are zonal, so it's not beyond the wit of man, nor the Grosvenor group, to provide the the customers with a bit of 'human comfort' whilst on their premises      ......          you might even manage to comply with Part F of the Building Regs 2010 if you really try hard!

Wanted the tournament all in one area to generate some atmosphere - not because we are trying to make it uncomfortable for you.

I'll take a look.

We had 95 Entries for Day 1A. This means that we are almost certainly going to see a greater number of players over Friday and Saturday - so we are anticipating a circa £20,000 prize pool. Not bad for a £50 bullet!

Come and join us!

Hi All,

135 played in Day 1B, which takes us to 230 overall entries.

That's £11,500 collected, with Day 1C starting at 5PM - we are expecting a busy event and with a stroke of fortune we -might- just crack that £20,000 mark!

See you at the tables!

Title: Re: Tales of Poker from the Luton G - 2013
Post by: relaedgc on November 16, 2013, 06:06:47 AM
The beautiful thing about playing the last of the Day 1's is, while you still do have to qualify for Day 2, there's only 44 of 230 coming back. So that means there's already over £9,000 in the Prize Pool that's effectively 'dead money'.

Definitely value, I think, for a £50 buy-in.
