Title: DTD 300 / Monte Carlo + GUKPT D (ALL INVESTORS PLEASE READ - selling bullet #2)
Post by: youthnkzR on March 21, 2013, 01:15:08 PM
Selling up to 50% of three live tournaments: DTD £300 Deepstack / DTD £1000 Monte Carlo / GUKPT Didsbury Main Event £500

About me:

My name is Thomas Ambler and I'm a 21 year old former student (of Business Management), and currently reside in Chesterfield. Throughout my life I've had some level of success at the majority of things I've put my mind too, such as playing both Football and PC gaming, to a professional standard; Playing for 'Nottingham Forrest' up to being 16/17 years of age, and Playing the Call of Duty series on PC to top 5 European standard for a good amount of my 'career' (as according to the 'official rankings').

My poker career thus far:

I've currently been playing poker for around 2.5 years now, with some successes along the way (The highlight of my career so far was winning TCOOP #10 on stars for $58k). At first, poker was a fun for me - nothing serious, just going to the casino and having a laugh and occasionally getting some money for it. Occasionally then turned into frequently, and that's when i realised it was something that could be done for a living, so i quit the job i had at the time (Cashier in a Betfred Shop) and haven't had one since (around two years ago now).

I first started playing online poker around October 2011, where i got set up with 'Bankroll Supply' on an MTT staking deal on the iPoker Network. We parted our deal around March 2012. After a short time out of months out of online MTTs (where i decided to play live cash again), i was back - and got offered a new deal across all sites. Again this ended after a few months (The person i was playing for had lost a significant amount of money and couldn't afford to back players anymore - we were all released free of makeup). A short while after that, I entered a new deal - and this is where I'm still at.

Hendon Mob:

What i am selling:

I'm selling 50% of a combination of 3 live tournaments:

04/04/2013 - 07/04/2013 : DTD £300 + £36 Deepstack - £150,000 GTD @ 1.19 = £400 (£399.84 rounded up)
11/04/2013 - 14/04/2013 : GUKPT Didsbury Main Event £500 + £50 - £50,000 GTD @ 1.09 = £600 (£599.5 rounded up)
17/04/2013 - 21/04/2013 : DTD £1000 + £100 Monte Carlo - £500,000 GTD @ 1 = £1100

Reasons for markup / Why i think I'm a good investment

- The DTD and GUKPT Didsbury aren't cheap 'Buy-Ins' by any means, however they are fairly affordable and therefore there will be a significant amount of the field who are amateur players / play for fun - who i expect to have an edge over.
- The 3 tournaments listed are the form of MTTs (Deepstacked / Slow structured) in which i specialize - and play every day.
- Although I'm sometimes lazy in regards to online MTTs, since the beginning of 2013 i have been putting more and more volume in and am currently playing the best poker i have ever played.
- Having previously played live events with the buyins being equal and/or larger than these, i feel i will have an edge when it comes to the buyin level effecting my decisions when it comes to doing the right thing (as for alot of people who play for fun - these are extremely large buyins and many will be shot taking).
- I've played thousands of MTTs online, however a decent % of all the above fields will be predominantly live players, who will have no where near the amount of MTT experience as myself.

Confirmation:

I'm selling 50% of a combination of 3 live tournaments:
- DTD £300 + £36 Deepstack @ 1.19 = £400
- GUKPT Didsbury £500 + £50 @ 1.09 = £600
- DTD £1000 + £100 Monte Carlo @ 1 = £1100

Total = £2100

5% = £105
10% = £210
25% = £525
50% = £1050

Will need to sell a minimum of 25% to play.

Thanks for viewing guys :)

Had a mini roller coaster these last couple of levels. Been down to 40k now have about 60k. Lost quite a few medium sized pots. Once with  7d 7h when the board double paired 88939 vs A10 and river went check check after streets were bet, and once when a guy open limped A6o UTG and the board ran out J974A after he bet turn and river and we tank POW'd with third pair.

Sorry i didn't report the bust out hand. Just got straight in my car and drove home and fell to sleep before I could do anything.

We finished 31 of 123 players who started day 1B, busting minutes before the last level of the day. Exit hand was me jamming 12bbs on the button with Kd 7c and bb finding queens. Bit annoying they find a hand because if this gets through I have enough FE especially live to 3b jam over some opens and the majority of people's calling ranges live to 3b jams are pretty lol bad.

Overall I'm pretty disappointed with how today went. I feel I played to the best of my ability but just went really card dead for the last five levels of the night and literally found 0 spots. I'm particularly happy with the way I adapted to the new tables each time I was moved, which was a few times. Will try and post a more in depth report when I'm out of bed and not using an iPhone to post. Apologies for not giving a Day 2 sweat guys, we got v close. Will just have to give one in the Monte Carlo.

Cheers guys, just waiting for a mate then gonna set off (around a 1 hour 30 min drive) so should make it with plenty of time to spare. We're probably gonna be playing rock, paper, scissors to see which of us lucky lads gets the honours of driving there and back (bowling for it was offered but snap declined by my opponent). I've got a pretty solid game plan in order for the battle ahead, so it shouldn't be a problem (it's probably massively +EV if I win, as driving towards Manchester tilts me so much - I absolutely hate the drive from where I live).

Gl to us.

Cheers lads, sorry about the poor updates yesterday. Was using phone as sat nav so literally had 0 battery

Day 1b report:

Late regged about 10 minutes into level 1 and had what was seemingly a very good starting table (with the exception of Ben Jenkins). First hand I play I'm UTG and find   Ahrt Ac @ 25/50. I make it 150. Button flats (woman aged 30-40, very loose passive but I was yet to know this) and blinds both come along (SB is young ~21 wearing Grosvenor Patches and BB is a Didsbury local aged ~45). Flop  Kh 5h C5. SB check, BB bets 200, we raise to 550, Button flats, SB makes it 1000 (Lol?), BB folds, we sigh peel to try make our 2 outer (it feels like), Button peels. Turn  Qd - SB now checks (from his flop raise he's already got the bad player tag in my mind), I check (possibly a mistake, i should be bet/folding), Button bets 2500, SB flats I fold. River   5s - SB checks, Button bets 2500 and SB tank calls. Button flips  Ad 5d (So I've literally got no idea what SB made the ridiculous raise on the flop with obv some wired K /  Qh xh).

Played a few pots since then - mainly taken down pre but did fire a couple with a flush draw vs the woman and got a fold out f her on the turn. Next hand of interest was with Ben Jenkins. We have 22k to start the hand and he has ~13k (it's the first hand back after the dinner break so going into level 5 - 100/200/50). We are CO and make it 450 with  Aspades Ks. He peels SB rest fold.  7c 7d Ts flop he checks we bet 425 he calls. Turn  Ahr and we ponder for 30 secs before betting 725. He C/Raises to 2300 and we tank for 6 minutes and make it 4050 (pretty sure he sees me as competant even though we have 0 history previous to this tournament just by the way I've been playing - my plan was to get him to spaz in all his 89 s / flop floats e.g.  Qd Jd ...etc. he thinks for 30 seconds, was so close to putting all his chips over the line - went back into the tank and then folded... Sigh).

We then become table captain a bit and build our stack to around 30k and change. Then play a and vs Julian Thew which I would like to post in PHA before posting results here if nobody minds. To send me back down to 20k. Grind back up to 28k then get dealt  Ahrt Ad open to 450 still @ 100/200/25. Fishy Manchester reg to my immediate left (who lost a massive chunk last hand) goes all in for just short of 8k we call. He flips  Qc 9h and the board runs out  7h Jc Td 8d 6d .. Lovely 80 bb pot lost there with ~80% equity. Break is basically next hand so we go regroup. Come back with our 20k and peel  Ks Qs a couple of times in position and whiff so down to about 15k @ 200/400/50 when our table gets broken.

Go find my new seat on table one to find that it's literally the table of death. To my immediate left is Scott Margereson ( Aggro Santos on stars), two to my left is a guy called Andreas (best £5/£10 reg in Manchester as far as I'm aware) and Luke Reeves ( Bit2easy on stars) is also on here for good measure as well as another competent couple of lads.I had 0 hands. It got folded to me ONE time in 7 orbits. Where I opened CO with  Ks 4s and got it through. Was then blinded and ante'd down to 9.6k @ 400/800/100 when I finally got my spot. Luke Reeves opened to 1600 UTG. Guy called Robert Boon 3 bets to 3600 from MP. I find  Ac Kd in the HJ and go all in for 9.6k. Folds to 3bettor who tanks for like 3 minutes before calling (I was being nit rolled with  Kh Jh - and even got the speech 'I'll give you a spin' - he must have thought my range was literally  Ks Kh+ lol). We both flopped a  Kc and he even turned a flush draw but we faded river to more then double up to 21k. Managed to chip up slightly more to end the day on 25.3k going into the 500/1000/100 level on the restart today.

Quite happy with myself about yesterday. Never before have I been so disciplined and folded continuously for 3 hours. Didn't 'panic' when I dropped below starting stack or when I had like 1/5th average. Just waited for the spot which was inevitably going to come up on this table. Now have another 1 hour 30 minute journey to return with 25 bigs. Hope we flip well and hold.

Confirmation:

Returning for day 2 today with 25,300 chips going into the 500/1000/100 level. Glancing at chip stacks I expect average to be around 50k with 62 of 155 returning for day 2 - 15 of those being paid. £22,570 up top with 15th receiving £1150. Gl to us.

Yeah puked a bit in my mouth when I saw I had been moved here, especially when comparing this table with the field. Seemed really silly.

Bust 34th. Got it in on the turn with 16 outs and didn't get there for 80k.

Never been so annoyed to bust a tournament in my life and never seen a buy in of this price to be such a bad standard. Will 100% be playing all GUKPTs in future.

20k going into second break. Open QQ UTG guy peels 45o UTG+1 and obv flops 4510.. We lose 2 streets as turn is an 8 and he checks behind the K river.

Then open 1010 4 callers.  2c 2d 6c flop we bet 1 caller. Turn  9h we check call. River  Js we check calls he rolls over  Ac Jd. Effectively 2 outered as folding the  Jc river and all Aces.

Bet 5150 on the river of  5h 6h Kh Qs Qh into 4.5k and got called by QJ no heart.. Which was good.

Then got 30 bigs in with 99 vs AK and lost to get me back close to starting stack. Really annoyed at the minute, will do a full tournament report when I'm home.

We bust with 99 by the way guys! Really massive sigh.

-------- NOTE FOR INVESTORS: --------

I know I only sold for one bullet for the Monte Carlo (which we have just bust) however I will be firing another bullet tommorow and therefore I am offering all investors the equivalent % they purchased previously. E.g. If you had 10% of the package I have locked you 10% of tommorows bullet.

I will be selling at spot again as I feel this is only fair. I need all investors to either confirm or decline their %s by 11am tommorow, otherwise I will be taking on the % myself. I trust all previous investors not to grim and therefore money doesn't NEED to be snap shipped (although this would be preferable) - however if you could send at your earliest convenience that would be great :)

5% of Monte Carlo bullet #2 = £55
10% of Monte Carlo bullet #2 = £110

Catch you guys later. :)

@pleno that's fine mate just ship whenever

@aaron I know i didn't say in op however I didn't really expect to bust so early in what was a pretty soft field yesterday. Although I haven't said in op investors have had sufficient time IMO. (Was discussing with Alex Goulder and John Black yesterday - asking if one day way enough time to ask Investors about a second bullet and they both seemed to think so). I think your trying to look for a problem where there is not one. If you don't want a piece then don't invest.

Mate you should have just put two bullets in OP if you thought you would play again if busting out, saves hassle and then refund if you don't make it ;)

But I will take 2.5% and give 2.5 up, will bank if I remember before I come over it give it you in person later, good luck.

As someone who also did this recently for a GPS event, I was there with Alex when we discussed it with Tom.  I know what you mean Aaron, selling for two is just easier.
I dont know about Tom, but for me I didn't want to sell for 'two' because I feel like im going to end up using them more often if i do.
I deliberately didn't play yesterdays day1 with Tom, because i would've wanted to play today if i had bust.

Best of luck today you walking sun tan...

To be totally honest I thought there was 0 chance I would fire a second, however after yesterday's experience with the standard of the field, i don't think I can't!

Apologies for the inconvenience all, if / when I next sell for a tournament I will be sure to sell for two, just to make sure.

Report of 1st bullet of Monte Carlo:

Win a few small pots then open  Jd Jh to 500 @ 100/200 from MP, HJ 3bets to 1500 everyone folds / we peel.  5h 3c 8d flop, we check he bets 1500 we call. Turn  7c we check he bets 2500 we call. River  Kh we check he bets 2k into ~12k.... We sigh call he rolls over  Aspades Kc . - were down to 23k

We chipped back up to 32k then opened QQ UTG. UTG +1 calls, Button calls and BB flicks it in.  4c 5c Th flop, we bet 1200 into 2000,  UTG+1 raises to 2700 we call. Turn  8c we check, he bets 3500 we call. River  Kc we check he checks behind and shows  4d 5s..... I just laughed.

We then open  Td Th UTG next orbit, 3 callers.  2c 2d 6c flop. We bet 1200 into 2k, button calls rest fold. Turn  9h we check, button bets 2500 we call. River  Js we check he bets 3700 we call he rolls  Ac Jh ( so we effectively got 2 as I c/f all Aces and the  Jc) slightly annoying.

We then 3b  9c 9h after a maniac opens EP, he makes it 600 we 3b to 1500. TWO people cold call the 3b then the OR just jams his 15k. We sigh call our remaining 8k with  9d 9c as the guy has been really aggro and been dickswinging massively with the guy to his left. He shows  Ahrt Ks and we lose the race.

About 23k ish the first break. Tables not that bad although we have John black two to our left and there seems to be a couple of other people who are competent. Not really done too much wrong just had the second best hand twice. Feelin pretty confident though so it's all good. Expecting 60k by next break ;)

Tom, now the MC has finished you are going to have to think about your stake threads and number of entries knowing the actual number of billets you are going to use, because both this stake and the GPS at Sheffield, you have been very unfair to backers with having an extra bullet, etc.

Firstly you played GPS, bust was brutal, but you go on to try and stake a second bullet and backers may have lost out as some was not involved in the second bullet.

You then do it again with this stake. I felt as if I was under pressure to take some of my original % because it would feel shit to see you bunk something major and have nothing in it. Not to mention that it goes without saying that some people may just miss the opportunity to reinvest because they do not check regular and could have missed out.

Please re-think next time, think its a but unfair IMO.

GPS Sheffield is next, if you think you are going to use 2/3 bullets, then ask for them, you are selling out, do won't be a problem & I'm sure it's no problem to send refunds on unused bullets.

Furthermore this is not good for the old BRM, busting out early and brutally, doesn't mean that it's a good idea just to flick it in again, you still need to be a lot more disciplined, which is something you don't seem to be at all.

Hope you see where I am coming from & I'm happy to back again (I'm only small fry though ;))

Well played on cashing though!!

I don't really see much wrong.

Though it isn't a massively significant thing, I think they are better separate.  I don't want to be sending folks too much money when the 2nd bullet isn't needed.  Sometimes I might just want to pay for one bullet.  Sometimes I might be a bit short, or might be having trouble with stars deposit limits etc.

Also, I don't really like the idea of people knowing they have a second chance.  Even if Tom is likely to get his reload through' I'd still prefer it if he knew he couldn't take it for granted.  I know I would far rather sit with 30K chips than 7K, and I expect everyone has thought fk it when on a short stack at some time in a tournament, and this has happened entirely on my own dime.  I think I have made the point before, that people who sell at premiums can have a financial incentive to throw away short stacks if they can re-enter.  If you combine these things when it is late on day 1 and someone is sat on 10 bigs...

The one thing that Tom could have done was send us all a PM.  I could easily have missed that we had been asked for a second bullet.

Aaron, how about you stop insulting people (like MC on updates) and generally stop being an idiot on the forum and go self ban yourself for 5 years. Tom has done absolutely nothing wrong here and neither have 99% of the other guys you try to have a go at.

I had a huge post in mind but all I can say is morons gotta be morons. Insulting someone you invest in after they cash in a tough tournament just because they didn't line up 2 bullets is fkn ridiculous.

I know a lot of people if they only knew they had one bullet would play a 10bb stack different to if they knew they could just flick in an extra bag for a different day 1.

Aaron...I think you need to give some serious thought to what you say before posting

Tom has done nothing wrong here......as a stand alone proposition it his fine....if he wishes to try again then providing he gives the same stakers an option to buy its fine too (it may be useful to say in the OP something  like "watch this space for second bullet options")

As Doobs has mentioned there are a lot of good reasons to initially request staking for one bullet for both parties concerned

I personally dont think you set your stall out to troll but Im afraid you do come across that way at times especially when you are effectively challenging somebodies integrity

We all make mistakes (me included) but obviously these can be avoided by "taking a step back" and think before we start to debate a topic.

The world and the forum is a nicer place when there is harmony.

Peace x

I'm not questioning his integrity, just the whole point of Tom adding a second bullet in OP's would just help generally, no? I think Doobs has made some fair points, but so have I, but I have misworded perhaps.

If people who are backers are not using blonde often and don't log on when Tom asks for second bullet and Tom binks, I wouldn't feel great. Like said, this is the second time top, would help people to just post for two bullets to save himself and backers time?

I only made the point to help, still think its a fair one considering.

As Ive already stated as a stand alone proposition its fine and I do understand your thought process...to be honest I think its more the tone that offends...anyway .... some food for thought !

aaron -- why don't you just regulate it for stakes you are interested in if you think it's a problem, e.g. 'hey, you planning second bullet if required?, if so interested, book me x%'

seems a lot easier than post hoc trolling...

Will ship all funds now guys, should be with you all within the hour.

Aaron - Was speaking to a couple of people about this and really didn't intend on firing 2 bullets at the MC. Having only played one previous £1k to this, I didn't totally know how comfortable i would be playing at this level + I really expected the field in general to be of a much higher standard - hence me selling with 0 markup (Obviously there were some sickos in the field though). However i the first bullet i fired i felt i played to the best of my ability and was slightly unfortunate to bust so early on. I thought I was massively +EV in the field, therefore considered re-entering, however i only did so after asking a some people whose opinions i respect whether it was OK etiquette, giving nearly 1 days notice - they agreed it was.

However to make things simpler next time - if i have any intentions what-so-ever of re-entering then i will include in OP :)

@ Doobs - I sent a few pm's out to those who didn't reply within an hour or so :)

For what it's worth, I don't think Aaron has done anything intentionally wrong here. Other than how the tone his post has come accross he has a valid point. A proposal should include all the salient points to a prospective staker and that should include whether there is contemplation of a second bullet. It may not be necessary to collect the money for the second bullet upfront but it would make things easier if it was. It would probably be wise to also get contact details for each staker other than just relying on Blonde.

Just my thoughts.

P.S. Aaron, you seem like a good kid with the right intentions but as Fraser said earlier you just need to think how your posts sound before you click send.
