Title: WSOP 3k NLH and 3k PLO8 12.5% SOLD OUT
Post by: Doobs on May 30, 2013, 03:50:47 PM
I am going to Vegas for a week at the end of the month to play a handful of poker events.

I have specifically chosen this week because I played the $1.5k PLO8 last year and genuinely didn't think any of the other players at my table had much idea at all of how to play the game.  I will just say those who say the main event is the softest WSOP event clearly don't play PLO8 much.

I played a 2.5k event last year and found myself between Kevin Saul and Chris Moorman, and Vanessa Selbst briefly joined our table.  Though there are clearly some donks in these bigger events, there are also a lot of very good players.   Then again Joseph Cheong sat down next to me in the main, so maybe I just run bad at the WSOP, and all the other tables are where the Frenchmen from 2006 sit.  I am playing the 3k event simply because I have one week and choice is limited in the support events in the WSOP that week.

I am asking for staking in events 44 and 46, which are 3k events over consecutive days.

Here is my Hendon mob

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=90865 (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=90865)

and my sharkscope

http://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-Statistics/Advanced-Search//networks/Player%20Group/players/Doobs (http://www.sharkscope.com/#Player-Statistics/Advanced-Search//networks/Player%20Group/players/Doobs)

The sharkscope doesn't reflect all my online play.  I played  a lot of cash on Betfair for a couple of years after my first child was born.  I beat all levels up to $10/$20 and Omaha, but the $10/$20 was a few thousand hands in sample size and was mainly due to aggro fish hunting).  I don't think I could have beat 10/20 long term.  This was all between 3 and 5 years ago and a lot of it was full ring, so I absolutely don't think I could repeat it now.  I used to play 99% of my games on Betfair, so a lot of the old results never showed up on Sharskcope, but I won the big daily probably 10 times, and the big Sunday game there.

I haven't played a lot of big Sundays over the years due to work, but have had a go at them the last 12 months or so.  I final tabled the Sunday 500, the bigger $162, the Supersonic and the Sunday Million (AK <AT for half chips in play) in that time.  I have won the Stars 100 rebuy, the Big $109, the $50 rebuy and one of the $200 turbos.  I have also won the big $100 rebuy on Ongame and done well in a few highrollers on other sites.

I normally just play the $100 PLO8 on Stars daily, and have won it a few ties, I also won the $500 one back when it was 9 max, and have won the $200 FL game, and finished 2nd in the big 50 rebuy PLO8 during GSOP.  I have recently run horrid in the $500 6 max games which has battered my PLO stats.  I am absolutely confident that I am going to be +EV in this game and virtually anybody who regularly played that $100 game would be.

I think my live game results could be summarised as run bad for years then ran good.  I really don't play that much (maybe 4 or 5 Hendon mobable tournaments a year outside WSOP).  I think I have played 8 tournaments at the WSOP and cashed in two (played the main twice, reached day 3 twice, cashed zero).  I got the biggest cash amount when finishing 2nd at GUKPT London.  I spent much of say 2 and 3 two to the right of Marc Wright, so didn't have that easy a ride either.  I have probably improved a little recently, because I am pacing myself better and not forcing the pace as much as I used to do live.

I have done one previous stake which was profitable here.  I have bought numerous stakes here, mostly ones that weren't.

Anyway business.

I am just selling another 12.5% to cut the variance a bit.  I have swapped 12.5% with some of Tikay's action, and am going to sell another five 2.5% shares.

Am selling the $3k NLH at 1:0 and the $3k PLO8 at 1.1.  I don't want to get too much into the debate on current markups, as I have said my bit in the past.  I think I am pricing fairly because the first tournament will be tougher than the average WSOP tourney, and stakers need to be +EV after variance.

The minimum buy is 2.5%, the max is 2.5%.  I don't want somebody taking it all.

One share is $157.5, or about £100 or so (pls xe.com it).  Can take payment by bank, stars, or cash in Vegas

I will refund with any mark up if I can't play.  I am playing the $1k event outside the stake the day before the $3k NLH and could overlap on day 2s.

Flame away if you must, but probably better to use your time more constructively and just buy.

Edit.  Am playing regardless of any sales.

Cheers

GL Doobs.

For the sake of transparency......

I have sold 2.5% of my original 12.5% to Karabiner, at the same cost I paid for it.

I sought the approval of Doobs before I did so. I don't intend to sell any more of it though, as I think it is a great value package.

So, Karabiner can now join the Funk for Doobs Team in Vegas.

Am ready to go.  Played the 1k yesterday finished ~450 out of 2000.  Used up all the run bad and think I played well all day, so all good.  There were definitely a few bad players at the table yesterday but out of position to a couple of good ones.  Heard a bit too much berating of the fish for my liking yesterday.  One of the moaners absolutely massacred one hand, and the "fish" owned him hard which was amusing.  1-0 to the recs.

Let's get shit done.

Played badly at the start, spewed down to 4500.  Got my head together and back to 7k.  Lost flip, back to 4.5.  Won flip back over 9.  Woohoo.

Fella 2 to my left is aggro and v good, is causing me issues.  Recognise him, but not sure who he is.  Jason Mercier on his left.  Fella has sat down 3 to my right, but knows Mr Aggro and Jason.  Still 2 recs at the table though.

Queens vs AK again,  down to 6.8 at break, but is OK.  Was thinking I'd be joining Pleno and claypole in the daily deep stack for a while.

Was always my intention to stick it in the eye of Mr Aggro next time he 3 bet me and I did.  Wasn't on the plan that he had aces, and AQ doesn't play so well vs aces.  We flopped a queen and even turned a gut shot for the split.

Got 9.8 from 9 first break.  Table isn't soft, but got good position with aggros to right and passives left.  Small balling and very comfortable.  Unfortunately, we are one of the highest table numbers so think we break one of the earliest.

Just short of 15.  New table more aggro, but my table position not so bad.  One fella at the other end has a huge stack and a creative opening range.

Made day 2 with 29300 chips.  Just small balled all day.  Had to make one nasty call with a jack high flush, but other than that nothing much to report.  It was nowhere near as soft as my 1500 table last year, but got good table position on all 3 tables.

Finished up next to Joe Hachem, can confirm he never said "one time" once, which was disappointing.

We still have 29k.  Table seems good, lots of limping, but at least 3 v good players.  Had to fold KQJT pre after a shortie shoved behind, reopening the betting.  Would have flopped massive wrap/1 pair and scooped.  Down to 9 tables, pays at 5.

TR to get to new stack.

Dusted a third of my stack AJ73.  Flop AJ3cc.  Got to bet I think. Turn low club and he donk lead.

Not long after AA34 rainbow.  2 limpers, so had to pot it, got 3 callers ffs.  I had much less than the pot behind, so was thinking what flops I could fold on when it came the perfect 257 rainbow.  Was good enough for three quarters.

Just got it in massive.  Gavin smith raised, got one caller.  Had AKT4ss in the big blind vs AT95.  Flop 2 spades + low draw.  Turn paired the 3 no spade, river 9.  Thought I'd chopped.  Didn't.

Tikay still in for 10%

Was a good plan to play this, never really felt uncomfortable, can't remember many mistakes.

Edit.  Was all in pre, pot then repot.

Going to just fill in the gaps.

Think I really massacred the start of the 3K NLH.  First orbit of the day, I raised to 125 ATo.  Got a caller on the button.  The flop came T95dd.  I cbet about 225 and the button raised to 800.  This really put me in a spot and think I should really have folded, as further streets out of position with that hand were always going to be difficult.  I think the next card was low and I checked and he bet 2000.  It just felt like a big draw, but even if it was I was still hating it, and sure his value range must cush me so let it go.

A couple of orbits later I raised with QJdd, same fella called again.  The flop came T9x again.  Inexplicably I decided to check this.  He bet and I called.  The turn was an ace, and I checked and he bet again.  I was reasonably sure he couldn't possibly have an ace, so did the dumb thing and check called again.  Then missed the river.

I think we were on level 2 and I raised 88, and the same fella called from the SB.  The flop came KQ and a low card and he checked, so I bet.  Turn was low, check, check.  River was another low card, and he bet and I got stubburn and he flipped TT.

I was feeling properly owned at this stage, with a few other rises and falls I reached the first break without half my chips.

I steadied myself and played a lot better after the break, chipping up to 6K or so.  I thjen had 3 flips in fairly quick succession.  JJ vs AK against a shortie which I lost, QQ vs AK, vs a big stack which I won, and another QQ vs AK I lost.  I think it worked out about level in chips from all 3 of them so no complaints.

The final hand was as reported earlier.  My nemesis had stopped calling and was now 3 betting me regularly.  I tightened up my range and had decided that next time he did that he was getting it in his eye.  So I raised AQ off 30 BBs, he 3 bet as expected and I slid out 5k from my 6.5k stack.  He insta jams, and I said that isn't good, and threw in my last few chips to see AA.  I think this must be fine vs said opponent, and just felt a cooler.

I think I got a bad table draw, I was thinking we only had 2 poor players at the table, and when I checked pokernews later, one of those turned out to be a pro too.  Everyone at the table barring the rec had headphones on, and the rec had big shades.  Really didn't enjoy much of the experience

Cliffs: 1.0 was probably pitching it too high.

The plo8 was a real contrast.  I enjoyed every table and never once felt out of my depth.  Having late regged the big O the day before and tried to blast the fish out of the water with big draws, with the inevtitable consequences, I decided to just small ball this one.  I had one nasty hand late on day 1, where I had AJ24 double suited and managed to get to the turn with 2 flush draws, two straight draws and the nut low draw.  I think the board was QT3 and another low card, and the spades were the J4 and were back door.  All my outs were clean other than the spade, and the inevitable 9 of spades came.  My opponent then bet this, and if he had a better spade flush I would have been fairly crippled.  I did a fairly severe nit roll and got very close to folding.  Fortunately he had decided to go nuts/triple range merge with QT and we were good.

I worried about my starting day 2 table, but it was fine and was one of the first to break.  I ended up on Gavin Smith's table.  He came across as an annoying loud mouth from a table close by the day before, but he was really good to share a table with.  The banter was good and the table was relaxed and limpy.

Towards the bubble, he had started raising more than half his hands and I got in one sticky hand with him from the BB when he min raised and it felt a bit nitty to fold.  I had ATT6 with T6 of spades.  The flop came 983, two spades, he bet fairly small and I called.  The turn came a second 3, he bet again and I wasn't particularly happy with that any of my overpair, bad low draw or bad flush draw was good , so did the nit thing and folded.  He then flipped over quad 3s, which was nice of him, and I did a big sigh of relief.

I mentioned the AA34 hand fully whilst playing, so won't do that again.

The other notable hand was the button vs BB hand I mentioned yesterday without the details.  I min raised 7653 (with two spades) from the button at 800/1600.  Villian was competent and played 75/150 limit cash O8 in Vegas (thanks Neil).  He potted it back leaving just 3000 behind.  I think at the time I thought I should fold if trying to cash and shove if trying to win, but having run the numbers I don't think it was that close and definitely did the right thing in shoving.  He showed A2QT and the flop came and ace two spades and the low draw for me.  I missed the lot and left myself with 21k.  Think I was very close to 50% vs this hand or the likes of KKQT having checked later.

I think the exit hand was good too.  As I said above, Gavin Smith was raising more than half his hands on unopened flops as the bubble got closer, so sure my hand was at worst flipping vs his range, and we had the extra chips in there from an Allyn Shulman call.  So I potted, Gavin Smith repotted, and I was very pleased to see I was about 70%.

Cliffs.
It didn't work out, but I was definitely value at 1.1.
