Title: Long Term Staking Proposal - MTTs
Post by: KarmaDope on January 18, 2014, 09:21:39 PM
Hello all,

Foreword
I have pinched the model of Chris’ and Dan’s stake (and some of the wording from Chris), as they are clearly setting the standard for future long term stakes. .

Background
I am Adam Sharples. Some of you have met me, others may have not, through my work with blonde and Blue Square as a live updater. I am 28 years old, live in Cheshire and work full time in the most boring job in the world – otherwise known as the Risk department of a major NHS hospital. I have been staked on blonde, and staked others in the past, with varying success but my most recent stake resulted in a small profit to stakers. This can be found here (Vegas staking thread)

I have been playing poker since 2004 according to the date I opened my Pokerstars account, but only really started playing from 2006 onwards. I have always been seen as more of a recreational player but am looking to take this a lot more seriously now. I have played all sorts of poker in the past but am solely now focusing on NLHE MTTs.

Stats
OPR is linked below. They are not great, I will be honest. I have not really played online bar the odd session over the last 18 months due to falling out of love with the game (this may have coincided with my wife’s decision to stop playing) but recently have found myself itching to play. I have sent the required 3 cents to unlock my ROI but am waiting for them to do so.

http://www.officialpokerrankings.com/pokerstars/sharplea/poker/ratings/4BF72F03D457415696AFE44C0700284A.html?t=3

Proposal
Is to play $1 to $11 MTTs. I will be playing mainly on Pokerstars and DTD poker, which is on the iPoker network. There may be the odd few tournaments over on Full Tilt and Pokerstars.fr. I will post in this thread the tournaments I intend to play before I play them. 95% of the tournaments I play will have guarantees on them, with my main focus being the “Red” tournaments on Pokerstars. They will all be NLHE. If I find myself short of tables, I reserve the right to pad my tables with either $2.50 turbo or $4.50 regular 180 man SNG’s on Pokerstars. I mainly play freezeouts, but will play the odd rebuy. If I play a rebuy, I will take the double rebuy at the start, plus one double rebuy and an add-on (5 units). I will not play any rebuys over $2.20, and I am not comfortable playing satellites as I do not know the strategy required.

Bankroll
I am looking at an ABI of $6 and think $1200 would be a suitable opening roll as it is 200 buyins and MTTs are very high variance.

Key points
I will typically play at least 2-3 sessions per week including at least one weekend day. My weekday sessions are more likely to be turbo tournaments with my weekend sessions more likely to be regular speed tournaments.

This is NOT going to be a high volume, quick buck request. I am in for the long haul.

Flexibility, shot taking and the nitty gritty
The stake will be rigid to the OP.  I think that is important to keep BRM in check.  If things develop well and people think increasing the stake or ABI is a good idea then it will be discussed and the OP changed.  At Micromillions/SCOOP/WCOOP times, discussions may be brought but these are special circumstances.

This stake will not start until after Monday 3rd February 2014. I am unable to give this my full attention until then due to previous engagements. I currently do not own any HUD software, but I intend to buy PokerTracker 4 (small stakes) for Holdem only and will get this set up before I start.

All of my online poker play will be as part of this stake.

If you decide that you want to drop out without the bankroll going bust then I will require 48 hours notice to give time to find another backer. This is because if I am one backer short regardless of percentage it means I can't play as it is an admin nightmare. If I bust the roll it's likely that it may take a day or two to replace stakers as it takes time to contact people etc. For people who do not want to reload for whatever reason can sell their MU privately at whatever deal they want, I do not want to profit by people withdrawing and the MU being wiped as it can often leave a nasty taste.

5% minimum investment please for easier administration. Selling at spot. I am buying 30% of myself. I can take funds on Stars/Tilt or by BT – or if you happen to be playing the APAT team event, I can take cash there (in £ only). Please do not send until I have confirmed you are booked.

5% = $60
10% = $120
20% = $240

Profit chops will be decided when we go ahead. I am thinking chop the profit when we reach $1700 ($500 profit) but will acquiesce to what the stakers prefer.

Flame away, happy to take feedback on things I need to do to improve this, preferably via PM to avoid a derail. Either way, thanks for taking the time to read.

Adam.

I work 8.30am-4.30pm and generally get home before 6pm. The plan would be to play from then on a weekday.

Replaced my iPoker site - numpty here forgot DTD were on iPoker, and it is not fair to blonde if I use a rival site to their main sponsor.

Have deposited €100 on Stars.fr and £80 on DTD to bring those sites into play.

Just waiting for stato now but I assume he is still in Deauville so not worried.

Bust the 3.30 when we hero-called with 2 pair and lost to a turned straight to put us short (I have the HH saved for review as I think I mangled it) then ground our way back to 12 bigs but then got it all in with 77 vs AK vs AK where the board ran out all spades (despite us all having a spade in our hand) and we did not win.

Also bust the €5 on DTD 2nd hand when AA < J7o.

Done a cash, so not completely bricked everything.

Pity its a mincash (still in though) in a $4.50 180.

Got a couple of decent stacks and a couple of grinds to get into the cash though!

Thinking of moving the iPoker funds to Winamax when they have sorted my documents. I have noticed that there is really only one tournament for me to play daily on iPoker and even then that starts at 9pm, which is really not the best time. Their tourney schedule used to be really good but now it just sucks, whereas a quick look at the Winamax micro/low schedule is pretty damn good, better than Stars.FR IMO.

Plus, hello Winamax fishies :) What do you guys think?

Was set up for a massive session today but after having the following in the last 10 minutes I've unregged everything - finish out these last 5 tournaments and gonna have a good, long hard look at my PT for the rest of the day.

Those hands? KK<52, AJ<A8 aipf, T8<66 on 8 high flop and KJdd < 66 on T96dd for 3x average stack.

I really didnt wanna start the thread off with a moan but according to the database, I am over -200k in cEV apparently, although I know this doesnt mean too much...

ETA: So far since the break we have had KK<AQo, 88<K6 aipf and AT<T2. Wouldn't mind if this was over the course of the day but we've only played 8 comps ffs :)

Today's profit: $224.90

Current balance: $1,234.69

SO...this brings the question - do you guys want me to ship any profit over $1200 or wait til we reach a certain figure?

I'm happy either way, dont mind the admin.

Gonna go with 50 minimum.

is that min $50 for your cut of min per staker?
there are 3 people with a 5% share, so if you did $50 per 5% you would need to be $1000 in profit......that seems optimistic at the stakes your playing

I would of thought your OP suggestion on $500 in profit is more realistic

I really don't mind which way you decide, but to almost double the original starting roll? yourself and stakers could be waiting a long time before any return....hopefully not ;)

Profit chops will be decided when we go ahead. I am thinking chop the profit when we reach $1700 ($500 profit) but will acquiesce to what the stakers prefer.

I actually meant that when we made $50 I would pay out like Mondatoo did, no matter how small the payout.

JB suggested $100 min but when Chris said that $50 was what he paid out at in his thread it seemed to make sense at the time. However I've since realised that means payouts of $2.50. Not an issue for me to sort but seems a bit silly to be paying out that type of money.

Neil has also suggested growing the roll so I'll PM all the backers tomorrow with some suggestions. Will be on the grind again tomorrow night but this will mainly be 180s.

We played 5x$4.50 180s tonight to see if they are worth adding in whilst grinding as Neil suggested. I was gonna load more but Joobs came back from the gym and has aggravated her ankle (she badly sprained it on Monday and it is now black and blue) so didn't feel comfortable playing too much when I could have had to drop everything to help her with something.

As is typical, I ended up one-tabling for hours only to bust KK < JJ with 17 left!

Loss today: $15.49
Current bankroll: $1,219.20

Well done so far mate

As long as you have the time to play them as they take at least 4 hours I don't see why you would not have the $4.50 games in there they are really good value, much better than the turbo games. I would suggest using them to keep the number of tables up if you are just playing smallish MTT sessions?

I intend to play from about 4pm onwards tomorrow.

I have also been asked by some friends to play in their team in a private APAT league, on a Sunday night, for the next few weeks. This would be off stake and played alongside my normal games rather than instead of them.

Does anyone have an issue with this?

Played a heavy Sunday.

Will do a full accounting tomorrow using OPR as my spreadsheet has gone tits up but suffice to say we had 2 min cashes and no deep runs. I think we lost about $150 but will double check.

Having reconstructed the spreadsheet with the help of OPR & P5s, we lost a lot less. I forgot I unregistered a lot of stuff at the end cos of too many tables.

Loss yesterday: $64.95

Current balance: $1062.22

Have moved $100 over to Stars to take advantage of the $55 ticket for tomorrow's million.

As I can't seem to withdraw from Full Tilt right now for some reason, I have deposited $130 of my own money in two separate transactions to get both the $55 and $11 tickets, which are being used for the 500 seats gtd and 1000 seats gtd respectively. By the time these tourneys finish we will be auto late registered for the million unless we bink both.

I'll be withdrawing that $130 on Wednesday as well so there is no confusion over monies in the account.

We did play yesterday and today.

Completely bricked everything.

Balance: $900ish as I need to double check on OPR which will be done tomorrow.

Taking a break before MicroMillions as getting tilted by the runbad. Neil's been watching so can confirm I'm running like absolute horseshite. Feels like I'm moaning (and to be fair I am) but just had enough right now. Think I might need to listen to some of Tommy Angelo's vids.

Current balance is $904.38. Each 5% is worth $45.22.

One of the backers is pulling out, so stake is suspended at the moment. What is the correct protocol in this situation regards what the share is worth for the old backer/the new backer?

You can re-sell the other backers piece @ whatever it's worth now.

This got me thinking actually - what happens if no-one wants to buy for example. The stakee and all the other stakers should not be held up because one backer wants out. Imo you should just continue in that situation and they are stuck with their piece until someone wants to buy.

I don't know what others think or what the norm is there but if you were planning on playing a session and the piece isn't sold for example you should continue to play as normal imo.

Bust the Bigger 8.80 with 99 < KJ on 9-K-J-6-K board.

Hi all,

I haven't forgotten about this, but I have been ill this week and not felt well enough to play online cos staring at a computer screen is not good (vertigo issues).

Did try a set of 180's to see how I could cope and nicked a small profit to take the balance to $845.14.

Hopefully will be back on it soon.

how many sessions and games have you played since the stake started?

Sorry for not seeing this until now - April 8 is my bday. Asa lmk you had asked though.

Without looking at my spreadsheet and I am not at home right now - we have played approx. 200 tourneys. Sessions I really dont know - lots of little short sessions and Sundays mixed in.

I am aware volume is low. It will be increased. I am struggling a bit with the mental side of things due to earlier runbad as Neil alluded to. Currently reading The Mental Game of Poker.

Would completely understand if people wanted to pull out cos of lack of volume right now.

How much is Cos's 20% now worth? Would be interested in taking it over if "the price is right". Not too worried about lack of volume at moment. Prefer you to put volume in when youre feeling good than thinking you have to grind even when youre not?

I wouldn't sell it at 1cent less than it's actual value but I'll be honest, this whole thread has pissed me off a bit.

It doesn't seem like you're putting in any kind of effort or that this is really a good proposal for backers, more just like you want a bankroll to play poker when it suits you.

Can understand why you think this but it is not the case.

What has happened over the last few weeks is that I have been getting some pretty bad beats and now I'm starting a session and the first bad beat just sends me quite tilty and makes me want to spew/not play. I was going to play a massive session on Sunday cos I knew I was staying up for Wrestlemania but my first hand saw me turn a straight with 6-2 when I checked in the BB but villain rivered a full house for stacks. Once I saw this I just wanted to snap un-reg and not play. Obviously this is not good for the thread or the roll at all so I have taken a step back and am reading through The Mental Game of Poker to try and stop this happening.

I also changed locations at work literally the week after I started and this caused me to not be able to play evening sessions so I was limited to weekends. This has now changed as of April.

I'm not trying to make excuses and am happy to, privately, offer up every hand history from the stake if stakers/respected players want to go through to confirm. Also happy to open up the spreadsheet to stakers.

Yeah I realise this is as much a bad thing as it is a good thing at times but that's just how I am

I don't mean to come off here as just being nasty for no reason especially because I like Sharplea, both in person and as a poster but I have pieces in people like Monda who regards himself as a lazy grinder and he still puts in a decent effort in my book. Also back Bedi who has a wife, a full time job and 474 children and he probably plays 200 tournaments in a fortnight - the same amount that have been played here in 3 months and that doesn't include his live play.

I couldn't care less if you were Phil Ivey or the world's biggest fish - I got the ball rolling because I like you but would be nice if you put in some effort for your backers.

If you get tilted at one bad beat then MTTs and poker are probably not something you should be playing.

I don't think you're being nasty at all. I agree with a lot of what you are saying tbf. Volume currently is shite.

Once I've got my head back in the game things will improve. Can promise that.

Awesome news, cheers.

Gonna return to the virtual felt this weekend, I'm thinking a small Saturday session consisting of RED tourneys plus best value, then hit Sunday hard if all goes well.

Bad day today, No cashes and I stopped regging at 7pm after having AA/KK cracked a minimum of 5 times in 2hrs. Ended up one tabling only to bust that 18 from the money with QQ < JJ.

Current balance: $692.04.

So...this is what we have played this week. I have realised that I need to be a bit more open about what is being played so will probably just do this at the end of the week along with the updates as normal.

No. I had visitors when I arrived home from cricket and they stayed until Tuesday cos of the Bank Holiday and during the summer I play cricket on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights. I'm back on it at 2pm starting with the Big 5.50. Just going through the OPR now to sort it all out.

This is the plan for today:

14.00 - Big 5.50
14.00 - 1.35 KO

15.15 - 5.50 1000 cap
15.45 - 4.40 8 max 1000 cap
16.00 - Big 8.80
16.30 - 2.20 5k gte

I de-regged for everything past 6.30pm as I remembered that I wanted to stay up and watch the NFL Draft, so the plan was to take a small break away from the computer. Not involved in this stake but rail the thread as like to see blondes do well.

If I had money invested in this, I wouldn't be particularly happy.

Stuff like didn't feel like grinding today, so instead watched some videos/went thru some hand histories etc should be the bare minimum.

I played last night - tried out a shorter schedule as back in full time work now. Also tried regging some hypers to see if they would be worth an addition to keep table count up but I really didn't like them because I think my push-fold range is a bit nitty.

When I'm not playing much I do go through my hand histories/peruse PHA/watch DC videos I have downloaded/discuss hands with friends.

I will provide an update of last night's tournaments shortly.

22-May   $1.35    Stars   250/6888   $4.12    $2.77    $502.81
22-May   $5.10    Stars   231/1293   $0.00    -$5.10    $497.71

22-May   $2.50    Stars      $0.00    -$2.50    $493.01
22-May   $1.00    Stars      $0.00    -$1.00    $492.01
22-May   $2.50    Stars      $0.00    -$2.50    $489.51
22-May   $1.00    Stars      $0.00    -$1.00    $488.51

Yes, it was a very short session last night. I was more tired than I thought and kinda wanted to tack this update on to my next big session because, well, 7 tournaments kinda sucks. I dont have results for the last 4 because they were 180 man comps - have OPR stopped tracking these?

I now feel I have to explain something, and if investors wish to pull out then they can after hearing this. I have recently returned to full time work. I commute 90 minutes each way to get to work, so I leave my house at 7.10am each morning and if I make the early train back, I get home for 6.45pm. By the time I've got in, checked the post and sorted out the house, I get to sit and eat at 7.30pm. Because of this, midweek play is not really an option right now, hence me trying the hypers last night to try and get games in. The only other thing I can think of is solely playing 180's during the week but this isnt really a 180 man proposal.

What I am going to do is study hypers and shoving ranges by watching videos/spending some time in MTTSNG/Small Stakes MTT on 2p2. If anyone has any suggestions for video series then please let me know.

I next intend to play on Sunday with the usual schedule I have been playing recently.

There is probably only 5~6 playable hypers each evening, spaced well apart if your going stars alone.

There is an fair schedule of Turbos\hypers in the ABI starting around the $4.40 turbo around 8.  Reg till 10, session won't extend much beyond 12, if it does you have a sweat. Probably comprises 15-20 games, late reg the 1$ rebuy obvs.

I do it when I am playing as I commute too. I can map out a schedule for example if you like

not involved in stake, probably would suggest staying away from hypers. There is so many sites out there with mtts with less runners that take less time. full tilt, stars.fr, ipoker, microgaming etc.

I have Tilt/Stars.fr as well. Would be looking to reg from about 7ish as can eat whilst playing if not too many tables.

i aint a stake holder but with your tendency to tilt after a few beats would be best to steer clear of hypers and turbos and play the minor sites

all the best adam

No worries, will do.

Current overall balance at this point is $488.51. That makes your piece worth $97.70. I have sent this via FTP now.

If anybody wants to buy the 20% then the makeup figure on it is $142.30 owed to Cos. I'm still not sure how makeup works but I imagine Cos will know more.

$146.55 shipped via Stars.

So...50% up for sale unless the remaining investors decide to pull out, in which case I will close this down.

Having not been able to find any more backers, it looks like I will have to close this down reluctantly.

OverTheBorder (5%)   $24.43
jbworldwide (5%)   $24.43
redsimon (10%)   $48.86

Chris, I will ship to your stars. Not sure how Simon/JB want their share, stars or BT is fine by me.
