Title: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: jbworldwide on February 17, 2014, 11:29:52 PM After riding high in second spot until the final question I now found myself with this weeks RSQ.....
Entries close 6pm on Sunday 23rd Feb. Reveal will be from 9 pm on Sunday 23rd Feb. (This reveal time may change but notice will be given if it does) Rules The score for each question is the number of people who give that answer. The most popular answer is the sheep. Incorrect answers receive the sheep score plus 5 points. Lowest score wins. Please try and answer from inside your deep, dark memories, research is not allowed but I cannot police it so it is up to your conscience. You may choose to pass one question and will receive 0 points for that question, except for question unlucky 13 which is not passable Errors where it is obvious what the answer is will not receive a penalty, unless it is wrong of course! Questions 1. In honour of the winter Olympics; name a sport that is part of the 2014 programme that takes place outside (and include a discipline please, just skiing or snowboarding will be an incorrect answer) 2. Name a country in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics that has won two or more gold medals (this will be taken from the close of play on 17th Feb) 3. Name a winner of a 2014 Bafta (Person or Film, to be clear the headline credit will count e.g. the Make up and Hair was awarded to the film not the 3 stylists) 4. Name a country that was part of the British Empire (protectorates do not count) 5. Name a football team remaining in the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League Competition (Round of 16 beginning on 18th Feb 2014) 6. Name a James Herbert novel (officially published according to wikipedia, short stories do not count) 7. Name a PLC listed on the FTSE 100 which is in the top 20 by market capitalisation value. (i.e. which 20 companies are worth the most, taken from Telegraph online on 17th Feb) 8. Name a unique first name for an English monarch since 1066 (what I am looking for here is the crowned forename, e.g. Harry (but since he is not a monarch this is incorrect) I do not need the number) 9. Name an NFL team (franchise) in the current American Football Conference (AFC) 2013-14 season 10. Name a UK city south of Nottingham 11. Name a No.1 Album from 2013 12. Name a meerkat character from Comparethemarket.com (in honour of work :), named meerkats anywhere on the ctm website, muskrats or mongoose are not allowed) This cannot be passed.... Unlucky 13... how many entries (total) will there be in the Sky Poker UK Championships Main Event. Percentage difference either over or under (rounded to the nearest percent; 0.49 down 0.50 up) will form your score to be SUBTRACTED from your total. So an exact answer will get you a zero score, 1% away is -1 point etc. The closer you are the less points you lose. If clarity is required, say below and I will try my best. Have fun. Entries will be listed below; Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: jbworldwide on February 17, 2014, 11:42:18 PM Entry List;

Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: MintTrav on February 18, 2014, 12:58:42 AM I wish people wouldn't do this, ie put up the next quiz straight away and spoil the previous quiz for everyone who wasn't online at the reveal. I came home and logged on, looking forward to a good read through it all. And what's the first thing i see? jbworldwide's RSQ! I haven't even looked at tonight's one and I already know the result.

I'm with claw too. Not sure why there's 4 sports questions. And I was annoyed last week we dropped to 1 pass. Same this week but more questions! Shame on G2L for approving this. I'm sorry John, i dont have any time for the rest of this week so had to bang it out... i'll make it better... :kiss: :kiss: :kiss: Well that's alright then. ;) Afraid I'm gonna have to pass your quiz though, James. I'd like to enter but it's even harder than the last two weeks. I thought the idea of these was that there are lots of obvious answers to easy questions. There are four questions here that I don't even have one answer for - BAFTAs, Football team in last sixteen (I could prob have an educated guess at who is likely to be in that, I suppose), No 1 Album, Meerkats. Sheltered life and all, I know, but I don't see much telly. What has happened to the idea of posting easy questions though? Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: MintTrav on February 18, 2014, 02:41:47 AM On second thoughts, I suppose most people would know at least one major movie and would also know a bit about football or pop music (or both). It's prob just me - I take it back. I've thought of one movie already, so maybe I can drag up a music album from somewhere too.

Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Waz1892 on February 18, 2014, 07:08:00 AM q8) i dont understand. Youre looking for a unique first name, but dont want a number, indicating a certain king (for example) with several wives would be correct? But this isnt unique as there were several if his name with numbers?
Please clarify? Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Tal on February 18, 2014, 07:21:54 AM q8) i dont understand. Youre looking for a unique first name, but dont want a number, indicating a certain king (for example) with several wives would be correct? But this isnt unique as there were several if his name with numbers? Please clarify? Unique would mean the only monarch to have ruled England with that regnal name. So, if there were a Nigel II, you can't pick Nigel. That's my reading of it, anyway. This question was on the lottery quiz show on Saturday night I think, it is just asking for unique first names of monarchs since 1066 - seems a pretty straightforward question to me. So if there were 7 kings called Charles and one of them ruled after 1066, Charles would be a valid answer. You just don't specify Charles VII - "Charles" is sufficient.....and so on. and appreciate the effort that goes into these even more now. Good luck Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Longines on February 18, 2014, 02:50:28 PM I read it as Charles, Henry etc. would be fails as they were not uniquely named. I think there is one wrong answer only. Surely mid table with that, can't be bottom. If it does get me bottom, then the world of quizmastery is against me and then i won't know what to do with myself. Give up? Never! She hadn't won them by the 17th Feb fair enough. I do think that having two questions on the winter olympics and then putting two very challenging conditions on the questions has dissipated the quality of the quiz. Remember, the point of an RSQ is LOTS of OBVIOUS answers. I wonder how many countries did have 2 golds a week ago? If you really wanted these questions, then why not "name a winter olympic sport" and "name a country that has won an olympic gold at sochi 2014". Suddenly, both questions are much easier to guess, no one has to waste a pass, and you get more entries! Et Voila! If Snowboarding is incorrect because it is an overall descriptor then biathlon is also incorrect surely point taken, I was trying to avoid a skiing or snowboarding answer but have caught myself out :) i didnt just say biathlon i gave an event in the biathlon and you got an ace ;) Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Ironside on February 23, 2014, 09:55:36 PM anyone got the scores on the doors am i winning yet?

She hadn't won them by the 17th Feb fair enough. I do think that having two questions on the winter olympics and then putting two very challenging conditions on the questions has dissipated the quality of the quiz. Remember, the point of an RSQ is LOTS of OBVIOUS answers. I wonder how many countries did have 2 golds a week ago? If you really wanted these questions, then why not "name a winter olympic sport" and "name a country that has won an olympic gold at sochi 2014". Suddenly, both questions are much easier to guess, no one has to waste a pass, and you get more entries! Et Voila! I understand what you were saying, for the first one I wanted to create bit of difficulty but considering it was on I assumed people would have a greater awareness of the events. As for the second one there were 13 countries with 2 medals when the question was set. Unlucky 13... how many entries (total) will there be in the Sky Poker UK Championships Main Event. Percentage difference either over or under (rounded to the nearest percent; 0.49 down 0.50 up) will form your score to be SUBTRACTED from your total. So an exact answer will get you a zero score, 1% away is -1 point etc. The closer you are the less points you lose. Now if you were smart then you would have waited until Friday to answer and you might have known the right answer, hence why I didn't answer this query in the previous posts because I left it open for this reason Answers stribling No Answer i think i come 2nd that has to be a fail Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: jbworldwide on February 23, 2014, 11:13:12 PM The above resulted in the following points being subtracted from the score; dwh103 19 cf 100 moonar 4 Longines 25 david3103 100 Tighty 21 Ant040689 11 kinboshi 100 Waz1892 100 Ironside 100 stribling 100 MintTrav 3 ruud 1 why do i lose a point? Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: ruud on February 23, 2014, 11:17:43 PM did you write question 13 like that on purpose?
so that a ridiculous answer scored the best score possible? seems to defeat the purpose of an RSQ for me. That's why i went on the nose, thinking "he can't possibly want us to simply intentionally fail spectacularly" obviously I was wrong >:( Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: jbworldwide on February 23, 2014, 11:24:24 PM did you write question 13 like that on purpose? so that a ridiculous answer scored the best score possible? seems to defeat the purpose of an RSQ for me. Tina Maze - costs me the gold that way round!!! Second way round does mean that Dave doesn't have to do 2 in 2 weeks! But he might fancy it I dunno?!?! I'm sticking with my first scores as that is the way i wrote the question Unlucky 13, ;) everyone had a chance to get it right (by delaying the entry if they read the question) and also I was trying to punish ridiculous answers. Perhaps the end was a farce, but then this is my first one and I wanted to put a bit of a different spin in it. Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Cf on February 24, 2014, 01:05:56 AM Can the QM please explain how he came to -100 points for me and others please?
To quote the question: Unlucky 13... how many entries (total) will there be in the Sky Poker UK Championships Main Event. Percentage difference either over or under (rounded to the nearest percent; 0.49 down 0.50 up) will form your score to be SUBTRACTED from your total. So an exact answer will get you a zero score, 1% away is -1 point etc. The closer you are the less points you lose. At no point does the question state that points will be capped at -100. Therefore please redo the scores. Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: Cf on February 24, 2014, 01:06:37 AM Also...
Thank you for running the quiz :) Though you do win the title of worst ever question in an rsq! And that includes sharplea's Avenged Sevenfold question! I really must get clevererer. Preferably before David's quiz. Title: Re: Roll up, roll up.... jbworldwide's RSQ Post by: kinboshi on February 24, 2014, 10:23:18 PM Ridiculous.
Ruud, you're a maths teacher. Can you explain why my answer for Q13 scores 100? I won this quiz, and therefore the QM and the marking is an utter FARCE.
