Title: Poker and the Mrs?
Post by: Splash on June 23, 2005, 11:34:15 AM
I was getting a fair old ear bashing yesterday regarding time spent playing poker, stopping up all night and not going to bed until 5am etc etc etc.

It occured to me that surely i cant be the only one to suffer.

Any hits or tips on how to calm the waters and keep the other half sweet ?

To date ive tried the following but they only seem to give short term brownie points!

1:  The occasional hols/shopping trip paid for by the bank roll.
2:  Getting her into poker and setting her an account up with 200 quid (shes not too bad actually... now got 350 !!)
3:  Going part time at work to play poker... so when she asks me to do the washing up i can say  ... "Not now dear I'm working!" .... this one did not work!

Lose potential bankroll via divorce, build it back up again.

Painful, in more ways than one, but quite a motivation these days.

To those who manage to combine a happy married life and the anti-social parts of poker, mainly the hours and the travel, my congratulations!

I made mine very happy, I gave her a house and a decree absolute. No complaints about me playing poker.

lol

nowadays i juggle my responsibilities to my kids with my work and my poker. I am proud to say that I have never, and will never put poker before my obligations to being as good a dad as I can be in my kids lives.

So what did you say to that Ariston, after she'd given it the mind numbing monotony bit..........?

loool, Have to agree with you tightend my son Jakob is the only thing I put before poker. I have missed 3 festivals this year I was going to go to because I have him every other weekend. He is 6 now and already understands the basics of poker and even plays the odd hand online for me. If ever on a weekend someone bets 699 quid into you on a busted draw it was Jakob honest  ;)

I can see a trend developing here.... is there anyone not divorced?  :(

Ariston... it all becomes clear now, the little 'un playing online for you, and u told me u were making those calls because you were short stacked!

Nope just hundreds in the house and in frames and stuff. Never bothered to get a digital camera or anything, maybe should sort that one out.

Best quote from Jakob was at school when all children where asked what there parents do. "Mum goes shopping and meet the girls for coffee and dad plays poker" The teacher said he had a very active imagination although it sounds about right to me.

happily married, two kids who I see plenty of, wife's a handy player herself after plenty of coaching sessions. 'coarse being a man of leisure helps. T-shirt business any week now. I am a firm believer that regular 9-5 life and poker are not compatable. you have to adapt your life to the game or get uysed to it being very recreational

I use to play online and get a right earbashing when I lived with the woman but last month we split up and I moved out! now I can play whenever I want and have even started playing live (finally) since I dont get the "what are you wasting your money for?" speech's anymore ;D

Er my advice though is that there is no balance! If it wasnt poker they would only find something else to moan about! :P

Red Dog sends his missus to Spain.

Got to be honest here guys, Mrs RED-DOG and I will have been married 28 years come October the 1st. In all those years she has done nothing but encourage me, what ever hare brained scheme Ive come up with.

She is always supportive and makes me feel like I am the greatest guy on earth. We have had hard times, both emotionally and financially, but she has been my rock, my friend and my councillor. I dont know where she gets the strength.

Spending money doesnt interest her, I will pay 500 to enter a competition and at the same time she will walk across town to buy a tin of beans 1p cheaper

She is always happy and smiling and will go out of her way to help anyone. If I ever did anything right in this life, it was marrying her

In the words of an old sentimental song.

Lord give her my share of heaven

If Ive earned any here in this life

Because God, I believe she deserves it

My woman, my woman, my wife

I think it is atrocious that the women have to put up with Poker Playing males, I think they should leave their partners immediately.
Now, Foxy Minx and Mrs C, if you are looking for somewhere to stay, its lovely and warm here in Greece!!

A married man should forget his mistakes.

There's no point in two people remembering the same thing :)
