So to blog or not ?

I've been trying to decide whether or not to do a diary/blog of my trip to Vegas.....mainly as I am crap at writing!

Here goes with a brief background of why and how I've managed a trip to sin city.


So I've been playing poker for about ten years I started online and progressed to Leicester gala and my main poker home when it opened DTD.

I've always wanted to go to Las Vegas .... Maybe one day !

I said to mrs fish about 5 years ago we should go for my 40th and we should start saving .... But we never did !

Then about 18 months ago me and Kev smith decided we should save up and save a % of all wins and go  (still a long shot)
But save we did £20 a week at first or 10 % of our wins into our Vegas fund !!

We was doing well I think we had about £500 each saved up when it was Monte Carlo time last April at DTD !
Again  we said 10% of any win into Vegas

A 6th place finish & £18k ........

£1800 plus what we already had was just an awesome boost to my fund all of a sudden this Vegas dream can actually be a reality !!!

In fact we had what we needed to book .... Now for spending money !!

Later In the year I made another major final which was DTD deepstack where I finished 5th for £5k......

About the same time Kev told us that Sharon (his girlfriend) was pregnant and they wouldn't be able to come as she would be 7 months pregnant which is awesome news and really happy for them but also means me and Ali would be going Vegas on our own !

In December we booked and we paid 2k or there abouts for 7 days b&b at planet Hollywood......OMG were actually going !!
Later today we are driving down to gatwick for a night in hotel

Car park was £55 or £90 including breakfast to stay in hotel & park ....a no brainer in my book !

Alison really ain't looking forward to the flight as she don't like flying anyway!!
But apart from that and missing the kids (my mum is having them) she is really looking forward to it !

I know a lot of you guys go every year but for me and mrs fish this really is a trip of a lifetime !!

I used to do a live trip report on one of the Vegas message boards back along, but we have one at KK every year and I just stick with that.

They're great to look back at down the line, occasionally I'll read through one from a few years ago and just sit there laughing to myself as I go through it.

Yeah agree im so glad i did one not even for anyone else, its great for me just to go back and read it.

Gl and enjoy lee.  First time in vegas is always awesome.  Forget about the diet as well whilst you are there.  Got to be the nut worse place in the world to be when you are on a diet.  see you back on the diet thread when u get back.

Good decision to stay at Planet Hollywood too imo, nice and relaxed hotel, the cash that runs there is soft as shit, it's a great location, staff are really friendly and it's excellent value for money. I went with some of the lads from here one year and then the next year spent 3x as much staying at Aria. Would choose Planet Hollywood again even at the same price.

Enjoy yourself.  Don't worry about the virgin tag, I think even the hardened visitors like to re-live Vegas through fresh eyes.  Have fun, explore lots of the hotels and take it easy in the buffets ;)

Just a quick update ......
Really overwhelmed with the sheer size of it all !

Had a little look around but was really tired so we had a burger at Gordon Ramsey burger ......just awesome !
Few beers & a little cash game .... Mrs fish booked her first win with $17 profit  Couldn't hit anything and left for an early night !

Up really early today had a bath at 5am lol

Gonna head to  town square this morning I wanna buy a watch  ...a birthday present to myself and then book for Grand Canyon ....

This place is like no other place I've ever been !

One cheap tip that is worth it - especially if you are gonna go to Town Square. Get an $8 Deuce Bus Pass to Town Square. Get the watch, get the bus back. Then use the same bus pass to spend the day Downtown. When it goes dark, get the bus from the start of the route, go upstairs and get the front seats. Stay on the bus all the way to Mandalay Bay. Lovely way to see the lights on the Strip without spending a fortune on helicopter rides etc.

Day 2 ....can't sleep for more than 4 hours lol! must be jet lag
What an amazing day
Had a look around the belagio and decided to go shopping !
So we took advice from everyone and got on the douce bus paid for 3 days @ $20
For someone who hate shopping and I mean HATE !!
I had a ball ....we went to the town centre and the south outlets ....talk about shop till you drop Mrs Fish!!

Tried to sleep in afternoon ... No chance so played cash at ph booked a small  $100 winning session .

Eat at outback for the most amazing Rack of Ribs !

We decided to play cash in the evening at MGM and  both sat on $1-2 very first hand if get aces and win a nice size pot
Second hand qq ....think this might be a good session until on  a 10-8-2 flop we get it in for a flopped set of 8s!

8s turned out to be a nightmare as later in the session I was in big blind with the mighty q-3 off and it's raised with 7 calls to 5 so I make it up

I Chk and original raiser makes it $18 to which all call ....including mrs fish !
and I shove for the last of my stack about $50 and all call apart from the better poker playing part of the family mrs fish who shoves for $150! They all fold and it's mr & mrs
There was a little bit of ...she's just protecting him blah blah

I flip my hand and she semi slow rolls me with quads !!

The bonus being she then gets to pick a ticket out of the box for a gte prize of between $50-$1000 for quads
She picks $50 and booked a $350 winning session ..... Which covered me 😳 well I did take her shopping !


Still can't sleep and up at 4am playing $1-2 in ph am going on canyon trip about 9 so really looking forward to that.

Any tips on getting used to this time and sleeping shit !?!?!

Sounds like ur having a ball Lee, glad to see Allison remains best poker player :) never been to Vegas, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe for me, sleeping tips...... Don't go to Oz.

You'll eventually start waking up later but for the first couple of days it is pretty standard to sleep <5hrs.

I just made sure I was getting to bed ~midnight and eventually I started waking up at 7/8am.

Waking up early is your body's way of reminding you you're in Vegas and sleeping is wasting hours of valuable Doing Stuff in Vegas time.

Listen to your body, Mr Fish.


Alternatively, have a massive breakfast, spend a few dollars on a baseball game and snooze in a comfy chair in a sportsbook, while several hours elapse. It's an old man solution to the problem, but it definitely works for me.

It doesn't matter when you sleep. Time has no meaning in Vegas.

I always take sleeping tablets with me (prescribed from my GP) and when I wake up at 4am I pop one of those and hey presto the next thing I know it's 9am!

I very rarely sleep for more than 4/5 hours at a time in Vegas. Come to think of it, that's not much different to home. What I sometimes do, is grab a quick power nap when up in the room getting changed for dinner, and that normally sees me right.

get out to the grand canyon on a chopper.. its awesome! and make sure you put some cream on that precious little head of yours!

Alison decided she didn't like the idea of a trip to the Grand Canyon on a helicopter ..... But I couldn't come to Vegas and not do it!
I was a little gutted Ali didn't come but didn't want to pressure her into something she wasn't going to enjoy
So I got picked up in a limo on me ones as my 14 Year old would say !! And off I went.
WOW! What a trip flew over lake mead & Hoover dam
Landed in the canyon for a champagne lunch and back over the strip....... I could go on for ages about how much I enjoyed this but I don't want to bore you !
Late afternoon we decided to take the deuce bus to Fremont street
Had a look in binions and the hall of fame !
And of course we had our photo took with the million dollars ....

Then we had dinner at the paradise buffet and watched the light show.
Everything is just amazing here ....feel like I am ten years old again with every other word being wow !

Got the bus back to the hotel and lost at cash again !
With ak on a flop of k28 turn ace river 4
I obviously bet for value on all streets  only to be shown a rivered set of 4s !
Another hand I raise Ace ten dd on an a38 two diamond flop  and get it allin only for him to show me a set of aces lol
Mrs fish hit quad kings for another $200 ...wiiiiiiii

I busted the comp in 18th shoving 8 bigs with  6s 7s straight into  Ad Aspades
But really enjoyed it.
We also went to the venition and a gondola ride!

Having the breakfast buffet today and then playing the main event at planet Hollywood.


 

I still shocked at all the hotels and things to do here, I don't think we will see all and so everything we want to there just won't be enough time!

Mrs fish said the most amazing thing yesterday ......

Have you tipped anyone yet to get a better seat/queue jump/anything else?

Booked a few small wins last couple if days playing cash really enjoyed playing at the Bellagio although the  card room manager wasn't very helpful or polite !
Have been playing small sessions I between everything else !

Just been into the Titanic artefact exhibition in Luxor Alison really wanted to see it !
I died ...she survived !

Plans for today ...WIN MORE $$

Biggest surprise ...... The sheer scale of things and amount of people
When we arrived I put $20 in my passport and asked for a nice room with a cheeky smile !
We got a bigger better room ...although he said it was! prob same as all the rest !

Last night we went out later and booked a table at the strip house steak restaurant planet Hollywood.
We was reading the menu and mrs fish said

 "I might have a cocktail"

At the time I was glancing at the prices of drinks $$ and siping my glass of water !!
I literally choked on the water and I do mean literally I couldn't breath for about a minute and the whole place was looking at me as I was standing over the table gasping for breath!
The young waiter was great and helped me to breath again I never been so scared.

After all that I had the second best steak I've ever tasted.

I normally have a brandy after a meal ...but they where $15-25 a pop so the nit that is leethefish payed $103 for three while losing at $1/2

As I am typing this I am playing in a 1/3 game @ the Wynn with an American jimmy savile .....who hates jacks !!
While I've been updating I've been rivered twice ! Once in a $600 pot ):

This really is no joke ........

We was on the deuce bus back from losing at the Wynn 50p .....aces cracked buy jacks.
When Mrs blonde fish says

"We shoulda got on the extending bus"

I said it bends it doesn't extend !! She honestly argued with me and thought as more passengers got  on the bigger the bus got !! OMG !!

Anyway we had the most amazing dinner buffet at Caesars palace

We went to go to the Bellagio buffet but it was holiday special gourmet cuisine and I don't really like that
So glad as Caesars is just incredible.

Booked a small win @ Caesars palace last night ....

Heading home today we've just packed and I've just realised how much shopping Mrs Fish has done ! ....to be honest I've also enjoyed buying stuff for the kids and a few treats for us.

I really have loved every minute of Vegas it's a magical place like no other.
Missed not having our friends Kev and Sharon with us as originally planned.

We've done and seen so much ......spent a fortune (for us it's a lot of money)
But worth every single penny

We finished the week almost dead level on poker only playing small mainly 1/3
Although I wish now I played more in the 2/5 game at the bellagio as I enjoyed that the most.
Mrs fish enjoyed playing the cash games at the bellagio & Caesars both losing sessions for her but the most enjoyable.

Highlight for Alison was the titanic exhibition when she walked out on the deck in darkness with just the stars made her feel like she was really on the ship, the Bellagio fountains , the gondola at the Venetian and the different poker rooms . Ali was really impressed with the more mature sophisticated and very professional Chinese lady dealers they had obviously been dealing a long time.

Highlights for me well I could go on for hours.

The food !!!!! Eating more than I should
Binions & as I would call old Vegas

Playing cash games when I felt like it

The venetian gondola & feeling like your outside!

Of course the trip to the Grand Canyon

In fact just everything WOW !

On another note I am so glad I came with Alison (and not mates) we've spent some great time together shared a lot of great moments
A week I will never forget ...thanks to Alison x

None of the stars of the show where there .... You had to  que to get in!  I bought a silver $ but I got it from a pawn shop up the road $10 cheeper !

How much was the silver $ Lee?

As Lee says they stars are never there. Filming takes place when the shop is shut and all 'sellers' are vetted beforehand
