Title: SCOOP 2014 - Razz, Stud, etc
Post by: MintTrav on May 04, 2014, 11:42:09 AM
This is a stake for the SCOOP series.

      Medium    Low
05/05  Badugi      $215    $27
07/05  Stud      $215$27
09/05  FL Omaha Hi-Lo  $215$27
12/05  Stud Hi-Lo      $215$27
13/05  2-7 Triple Draw     $215$27
14/05  Razz      $215$27
15/05  8-Game      $215$27
15/05  PLO Hi-Lo      $215$27
16/05  HORSE      $215$27

Total = $2,178

I'm selling up to 50% @ 1.125

Transfers on Stars preferred. Bank transfers at the current xe.com rate of 1.6876 - any returns will be done at the same rate.

10% = $245 / £145.18
5%  = $122.50 / £72.59
1%  = $24.50 / £14.52

As these games start tomorrow, if the stake has not sold out by the time of the first game, it will remain open in proportion to the remaining games at the same rate.

Unfortunately got there short-stacked in the COOPs, especially in the Razz, where I took a huge hit just before. In decent shape on the Stud Hi-Lo FT, and there were a couple of shorter stacks who I could have outlasted, but played a massive pot for the chip-lead in good shape and crashed out.

In last year's SCOOP, I came close to the FT a couple of times, but didn't quite get there:
Razz L     11/2192
PLO Hi-Lo L     20/3719
8-Game L     74/2780
Stud M     47/326

I nearly didn't include the PLO Hi-Lo in ths. TBH PLO is my weakest game, though Hi-Lo is better. In the end, I put it in, purely because I almost FT'd the Low last year, when it wasn't part of the package, though I'm still not sure whether that was a freak result or not.

I am a bit concerned at the Stud starting at 10pm, as I am in work the next day, but I really don't want to miss it. Apart from sleeping, which is optional, if things go really well I could still be playing a 10pm game at work time. If I decide to scratch it, I'll return the entry and mark-up. All the others are at 4pm or 7pm.

So, we're on.

Badugi up first. I warmed up by bubbling two satellites for the M this evening. Both had 4 seats and some cash for 5th, so i came 6th in one and 5th in the other. So close, etc, but hopefully it means that my eye is in.

Badugi is an odd game. Gotta be disciplined about not chasing rough draws that might still lose even if you make them, but still be very aggressive when you have the lead. Rough made hands are a killer. Gotta bet the dealt high Badugis hard to get paid by the drawers, but be able to then fold them when it appears that they have got there, which they will slightly more than a third of the time.

Back to FL this time, after being PL in the WCOOP.

Good luck! In the Low Badugi event too, hopefully chop it with you later tonight? :D

Got Bassysaffari on my table in the M. Looking back at last time, I can't believe I called for most of my chips (and all of his) with a 3-card. That hand sent us on our way to a cash. Just called again a minute ago (for a much smaller amount) cos of that hand, but he had it this time.

Title: Re: SCOOP 2014 - Razz, Stud, etc
Post by: MintTrav on May 05, 2014, 08:33:33 PM
1st break, M 5.1k, L 2.7k.

Been to 6½k in the M, and 5.5k starting the last hand, but back to starting stack now. Got a Russian mentallist called viktorrz on my left. No big results, and not really that good, but he is a nuisance. No doubt, he'll have a calamity soon, but he could be dangerous in the meantime.

Slipping away in the Low. Just missing mostly. Two players causing me problems - Guimp and nmbrone1907.

On the other hand, my final satellite, overlapping the game, came good. Doesn't matter to you lot, but it makes me happier with how I'm playing.

Post by: MintTrav on May 05, 2014, 08:44:44 PM
Gone from the Low already. Just missing all the time. Registration is still open FFS.

Still just over 5k in the Med. viktorrz snowing loads, but I'll catch him soon.

Title: Re: SCOOP 2014 - Razz, Stud, etc
Post by: MintTrav on May 05, 2014, 09:20:21 PM
2nd break. 6.9k in the M and, er, nothing in the L.

My first objective for the Med is to outlast the Late Reg, cos that would be too bad to die in both while people were still turning up.
Not really - the bets are getting big now and it would be very possible to lose most of a stack in one hand.

305 registered so far and I'm currently 77/274.

If we're going to bust either much better to be the low :)

Keep up the good work, hope you catch that pesky Russian

Thanks, I can't win a hand against him. I keep getting A23, A24, etc and missing the last one. And he keeps making a Badugi every time. I've called him with my 3-card a couple of times now and he had it every time. Gotta stop doing that. I wasn't believing him before, but maybe he's just been hitting the cards.

Went down to 3k a minute ago when my 8-high got called on two streets and he made a 6-high at the end. Swore at the computer, which isn't like me. I'm usually pretty laid back about outdraws, but it happened two hands in a row. Back to 4½k now, cos there was a hand where my Badugi held up.

3rd break. 10.1k. Registration has closed, so first objective achieved. Currently 62/190. 40 places paid.

I'm on a different table now, and there are a few names I recognise. I've come up against Colisea before. He seems to be making a career from satellites, having won a load of EPT packages. Also got Rebus1980, who got a 1st and 4th in the WCOOP.

I've had to fold three high Badugis since I moved. At least, on this table, they catch their better Badugi earlier, so I don't end up betting all the way to the end, so that's all good.

Checking out Colisea more, he has won quite a few $215 Razz and Stud Hi-Lo games on Stars. I gotta take a shot at those.

Post by: MintTrav on May 05, 2014, 10:38:50 PM
Damn. I snowed for the first time and still got called by a 3-card. Wrong target obv. Fecker. To paraphrase Tony G "It was obvious I had a Badugi. Even I thought I had a Badugi."

Title: Re: SCOOP 2014 - Razz, Stud, etc
Post by: MintTrav on May 05, 2014, 11:08:31 PM
Played another big hand just after that, again got a Badugi, but lost to a lower one. I've never seen so many Badugis. There seem to have been multiple Bs almost every hand. I can fold the J-highs easily; it's the 6 & 7-highs losing that's harder to take.

That left me with next to nothing. Dealt a K-high B next hand and went with it. Multi-way, it was obvious from his betting that one of them made a Badugi, so I broke mine and traded the K, but couldn't get another one. He actually showed down a K-high, but he had 632 with it, which was just slightly better than the one I broke, or I really would have made the laptop pay.

Out 164/311. Disappointing.

Title: Re: SCOOP 2014 - Razz, Stud, etc
Post by: MintTrav on May 06, 2014, 06:51:56 AM
Just had a look in to see the results. Three left in both tournaments. I see that Colisea, who was in trouble when I last saw him, recovered and finished 4th in the M. He also bubbled the L, 257th with 256 paid, but he won''t be worried about that now. NoraFlum, another WCOOP winner from that table, finished 12th.

Cashing in the Badugi took the pressure off for the rest of the WCOOP stake. I was feeling a bit bad about the result this time, so it's nice to see some names like GeorgeDanzer, Elky and PearlJammer down around where I finished. Even they can't win them all, I guess. I see Rebus1980 didn't get much further than me and also notice 810ofclubs down the field and........Demonic16, AKA rfgqqabc. I didn't know you were in it.

I like to play and spent an hour or so doing some work. Think i overestimated a 3 card hand and missed and broke a q badugi that would have beat the other guys Q 3 way once but it still felt like the right play. Played the draw today too, these events are a lot of fun.

Would you fold here too? I couldn't see anyway the bettor had worse than me when he is always getting called by at least one of us. Stud comps do not treat me kindly.

i cant see what your beating there you have to fold i suppose even at the $200 level you get guys with small pairs calling every street

It's a difficult spot. You're usually supposed to make the call if you get all the way to 7th street. The amount in the pot at that stage means that check/call is often the best approach with a middling hand. It's very difficult, though, to justify calling with one pair and a third player to act behind you. It looked like you could have already been outdrawn on 6th. I prob check/call 6th. It's tough on for you 7th for sure. I prob call expecting to lose if the third player isn't there. I want to say that I'd still call, but I'm doubtful that I would.

Even if i'm beat on 6th they will struggle to raise and i have the equity to call anyway so I think the bet there is good. I'd have called the first guy because he should have the better one pairs. I think the 7s calling is ok, he has an ace for 2prs and that hooks him in until the K. He might have called anyway if he had hit say a 2, but even then the pot is very big.

Break 2.  M: 10/296.  L: 436/1455

Lost some in the M in a bizarre hand where I called on 6th knowing I was losing, but it was 160 to call into a pot which was going to be 2,000 going to 7th, with a possibility of outdrawing. One player, showing what looked like junk, had been doing all the betting, while I had been calling, along with a third player, who was showing KTTT on 6th. I filled up on 7th, but the aggressor had rolled-up 666, and found another one on 7th.

Down to 34/276. It's a high-fluctuation game. I see that my mates GeorgeDanzer and Colisea, who were both top-5 with me a while ago, are both down here with me now. We like to stick together.

Out - 84th.

I don't feel too bad about that one, apart from having no cash to report. I couldn't get any traction in the Badugi and just couldn't seem to make any progress whereas this one went quite well for some time. The wheels came off after a while, but at least we were competitive and had the possibility of a score.

2nd break. M: 79/617. L: nil.

The earlier placings flattered a bit, as the differences in chips weren't huge. Drifted down and was quite happily tootling along in 30-40th for quite a while. Lost a few more though to drift a bit more. Still feeling pretty comfortable. Maniac Russian on my left has been replaced by another one. 4 Russians on my table, so that's alright.

L was unpleasant. Flops high when I wanted low and vice versa. When I got it, the River took it away, but usually never got it.

Wow, I flop so big here - nut low and high possibilities. Didn't raise initially pre as I don't like the hearts and my mates are likely to do it for me anyway. Not folding A24 pre though for at least a split of a big pot. Maybe I should check-call the Turn, as I have some of my outs, but still drawing big. On the River, it is likely he has A3, but I couldn't find a fold for 400 with 6,000 in the pot.

4th break.  174/265.  Had got back up to 20th not long ago.

I can see Moorman1 is 169th, cause he is just below me in the alphabetical list.

Another 3k went racing a shortstack for his life. On the Flop, I know he has to come along and he probably has loads of outs, so fair enough if I don't hold. Maybe I shouldn't have played the hand at all. My hand wasn't that strong but, against the shortstack, I felt I had to commit for the lot.

Stud Hi-Lo

1st break. M: 6.5k. L 2.2k.

21/326 in M, but nowhere in the L.

Got pretty unlucky more than once in the L with monster combo flush and low draws that didn't come in but tbh I also played a couple of hands badly. Lost loads in the M with rolled-up 777 that didn't improve. Had to slow down and just call when facing AA in case he had one behind. He didn't, but he made a wheel at the end. But then I got paid with an A-high FH, so got them back.

How do I get nothing from this hand? Going 6-way to 4th street, despite reraising (so they all cold-called except the original raiser) is part of the reason. The other is being against someone who didn't know to fold, even though he had a bit of this and a bit of that, but nothing worthwhile. Started with AA, got 4 low spades showing, incl the A, and he calls it down and backs into a third 5, while I miss all my outs.

2nd break -  M: 4.0k. L: 2.1k.

Horrific. I didn't know it was possible to be outdrawn as many times as that. Got back up to 4k in the L, but got rivered three times by a Canadian called kevindAAng. This idiot raises on 3rd every hand and bets nearly every street after that, so it should be easy to beat him. Had him bang to rights and he found something every time, while I bricked out. Same on the other table. Not even worth posting hands just to show bad beats, (unless they were interesting, like the one above) but it's depressing when there is no end to them.

And a nice way to finish the L, suitably in keeping with the rest of the tournament. I shouldn't reraise at the end; a flat call is much better, but I had virtually nothing behind. Not complaining about other guy - he's entitled to call it down holding 2345 from the start.

Some good news.

Bottomed out at just 697 chips, but then tore it up and got all the way up to 3264.

Then this. Could have been losing either the Hi or Lo, or both, but decided I had to go all out. I did lose the Hi but won the Lo. Back in the game at least. A long way behind the leaders, but back to starting stack with 3/4 of the field still in is a lot better than it was a few minutes ago.

Committed with 9d Qs Qd Td 9s (not the best hand, not the worst) against a guy with just an A showing (he did have one behind) and another guy with a low draw. The low guy caught a straight.

2-7 Triple Draw

Late-reg'd due to not getting away from work.

2nd break M: 5,225  L: 3750

Lost 1200 in the L on a hand just before the break. Had to call with 2457 on third draw. Three-way, everyone took one card. I caught an 8 (urgh) - check, I check, 3rd guy bet. A fold and I called another 500 for a pot of 3k. Lost.

Bets are getting huge and the game is getting very swingy. In the next session, I'll have to set my life on some good starting hands and hope for the best. It's spin-up-or-out time, especially in the L, where the bets are bigger. Expect 20k or zero soon.

Only played a few hands of 2-7 TD, but intend to play some small buy in events in Vegas in June would welcome some advice/thoughts on this hand?

I would've kept one of the 9s and drawn 1 on last draw. Is it better to discard both cards when you get dealt a pair after drawing?

Yeah, good point. I think I had been outdrawn so many times this week that I was expecting him to have it when he reraised, which he did. But he is more likely to have a worse 7-high than a better one, and you have to maximise your opportunities, so I accept your point.

3rd break.  M: 4.8k.  L: -

Trying not to be dramatic with these posts. Suffice to say it has been difficult. I've played the Razz real TAG style, folding all two-card hands. Only been playing three-card starting hands, and there are a lot fewer of them, but then playing them hard. Still lose to guys calling with a K showing. Lost one where he had Q9 showing and still called, when I had four wheel cards. I think I'm going mad sometimes when I see the junk I'm losing to. I pasted a couple of hands in here, but didn't finish posting them, as it's starting to look like a bad beat thread.

In the end, I played two two-card hands out of desperation and won with them from behind.

If you ever come up against a Dutch player called sdijsel and you get a good hand, you can bet it freely, cos he ain't folding anything. One the other hand, don't. Cos you won't win.

Bizarre situation on the bubble just before the break. With 301 left, it was H4H and we were just waiting. Then my table started, but none of the others I had open did. They were all just sitting there with nothing happening, whereas I was BB in Limit holdem and my Button had been raised. Some other tables must have also started playing, cos someone went out before the break.

The money jumps are miniscule now for ages, so it's times to take some risks and try to grow the stack or bust it.

PLO Hi-Lo
2nd break.
M: 6,961  220/737  126 paid
L: -. Was going better in this than any. On 8k, Called a raise and flopped top set with TTxx on Txx. Against AA. A on Turn. Then had AJxx on AJx Flop against AQ. Turn Q.

L: Finished 151st for $71.25. 5% of that will just about buy some sweets. Got up to about 33k, I think, lost a few and then committed in NLHE with  Aspades 9s, called by 77. Win the race for a stack of about 50k. Didn't.

Not quite. I lost my sense of humour about the middle of this series, but I'm glad my stakers still have theirs.

It didn't go well, did it? I have done a half-dozen stakes between here and APAT's site and it's the first time I've really had no funds to return. I was reasonably confident that I'd have the odd deep run here or there, but it never happened. You can blame running bad for so long but, after a while, that starts to wear thin. I'll return the pennies I did win today.

Thanks to the people who staked me. Also to those who didn't have a share but popped on the thread or sent pm's wishing me well.

I have no financial interest in this one, but I've thoroughly enjoyed the whole thread.

Not much return? I would not be overly troubled, it's a strange game, poker. Keep doing the right things & you'll be just fine.

As someone who has kindnof fallen out of love with holdem, at least online holdem, I was very happy to stake you for the range of games you played.

and if funds allow I'd happily stake you again

am I right in thinking there is a small cash from this series? Would it not be a better idea to play an MTT with it rather than pay back cents/pennies to thr backers? Just imo of course

Mick

I had thought myself that the amounts to send are crazily small - your % of $71.25. It belongs to the backers tho, so it would be up to them whether I should lose the rest, like some punter who can't leave the roulette table til it's all gone. On that basis, haven't sent yet.

We have $71.25. I'll play the Hot $75 at 7.30pm tonight. It's a Turbo with BB getting to 300 in an hour from a 3k starting stack. Should be able to do the lot in an hour, I reckon.

1st break. 3.9k.

Not much to report. Got AA just before the break, QQ on flop and Q on river. Thought he would call on the River if he had filled up too, but he didn't, so not sure what he had.

Won a BIG pot with AK AIPF. Possibly should have folded, but decided to take it on.

9k now.

BB now 250, and lots of pre-flop shoving from 2½k stacks. Might have to call some of them, so plenty of opportunity to build or blitz my stack quickly. Unlikely to stay sitting at the current level for long, one way or the other.

Reg now closed. 920 played, paying 117. Currently 84/448.

Probably should just bang it all in on the Flop here (if not pre-flop), but I wanted to get paid a bit along the way, and possibly leave him committed to doubling me up if I hit. I wasn't intending to fold, but what looked great on the Flop didn't look so good on the River. Also, I thought his bet was sized so I could call.

I guess that K9 hand wasn't great, but I didn't want to just blame bad beats when I can find much more imaginative ways to lose my chips.

Anyway, despite donating and trying get rid of our mini-roll, I finished 106th for $133.30, which leaves us in pretty much the same situation, as the amounts to send back will be tiny. I'll assume that I should just look for another opportunity to get rid of that, unless I hear to the contrary.

Apologies. As Simon said, I have been away, though he has vastly overstated the situation.

I didn't have time to devote a few hours to an online tournament in the period before going, and I probably won't again for a while, so I have lobbed it into the Big $162 on Stars ($150 + $12) tonight - tournament 924334259. Bit of a turbo (3k starting stack). Not much action for me so far.

Joined late, lost some, won some back.

466 registered, 362 remaining, 104 eliminated in 1 hour. Reg is open for another hour.

My kinda game. Let's minimise the skill edge and max the variance.
