Title: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 07, 2014, 12:43:15 AM I was reading last night about a local guy who came second in a worst holiday photo competition. Apparently, he was taking a shot of a diver before he jumped into the sea. Here is the photo:
(http://www.chichester.co.uk/webimage/1.6126118.1403020870!/image/2820473999.jpg_gen/derivatives/articleImgDeriv_628px/2820473999.jpg) This man, who couldn't even win the worst photo competition, has inspired me to run this quiz as a tribute to runners-up and losers, which seems kind of appropriate for a Reverse Sheep Quiz. Below are questions concerning people who didn't win. The reveal will be Monday 11 August at 7.30pm. It will make life easier for me if you don't number your answers and don't leave a line in between. Just put each answer on a new line. No penalties, though, if you forget or don't read this bit. You must pass one question out of 1-10 and will receive a score of zero for that question. Question 11 must be answered. Your score for each question is the number of people who give the same correct answer. The answer most commonly given is called the sheep. If you give an incorrect answer, you will receive the sheep score +5. You are not allowed to do research such as using Google to come up with answers, and you are not allowed to ask others for help with your answers. The Questions: 1. Someone who has lost Heads-Up in a WSOP bracelet event. 2. A political party leader who has led his or her party to defeat in a UK general election. 3. 'Every Loser Wins' was a major hit for EastEnders actor Nick Berry - the song that propelled him to international stardom. Name another TV actor who has released a song. 4. A country that has scored nul points in the Eurovision (for a year, not in a single set of marks). 5. Someone who won a silver or bronze medal in the Olympics. 6. A country that was on the losing team in World War 1 or World War 2. 7. Christianity is the religion with the most members in every State of the US, but the second-largest varies around the country. Name the second-largest religion in any US State. You don't need to name the State (though you may if you want to). For the purpose of this question, subsets of religions are regarded as the same religion - take the fact that I have treated Christianity as a single religion as your example. 8. Someone who lost a famous court case. 9. A movie actor, living or dead, who never won an Oscar. 10. A country which has been beaten in a FIFA Football World Cup Final. 11. And the newly-traditional question 11 - an answer that someone else has given to one of the previous questions. 'Actor' in the above questions may be male or female. One of the entrants to tonight's quiz answered every question, ie they didn't pass one. What should we do? I don't think it is fair to take their best nine out of the first ten, as others don't have that option. I could take the first nine, and treat Q10 as a Pass for zero. I could give them a Fail for Q10. I don't know if there has been a standard way of dealing with this in the past - I'm leaning towards treating Q10 as a Pass. Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:01:12 PM The fairest way I can think of is for someone to post any question number and I will treat that question as a Pass for the offender.

Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:08:37 PM We have a very low-scoring quiz. I didn't want it to be difficult, but it was probably a bit too easy. There are several questions with a huge number of correct answers, so it didn't take a lot of skill to Ace them, which means there isn't a reward for finding unusual answers. Anyway, lesson learned. Let's get on with it.
Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:15:26 PM 1. Someone who has lost Heads-Up in a WSOP bracelet event.
There are so many possibilities here that everyone is going to Ace it, yeah? No.
Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:21:54 PM 2. A political party leader who has led his or her party to defeat in a UK general election.

Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:31:22 PM 3. 'Every Loser Wins' was a major hit for EastEnders actor Nick Berry - the song that propelled him to international stardom. Name another TV actor who has released a song.
Martin Kemp or Carrie Brownstein have been in bands, but I can't find any evidence of them releasing a song on their own. Not clear that Brownstein has done any acting either.

Only five possible correct answers here, so this was the one to pass. Or so I thought. Thing is, just about everyone else thought the same, and not many people answered it, so it became a good one to answer. Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 08:54:19 PM How can Hindu be the second-largest religious group in Arizona and Delaware? It's all due to the IT industry. Large numbers of Indian programmers have moved to those two IT hotspots.
But Bahá'í in South Carolina? Come on. The thing is, there are some States where virtually everyone is Christian. It only requires a minute percentage to be the second-largest group. Some clusters, attracted to live where there are others who share their beliefs, are enough to register as the second-largest grouping. The number of Bahá'í followers in South Carolina is small, but there is almost no-one else who is not Christian. When you look at how many top actors have never won Oscars, it seems like there are more who have not won than those who have won. Most of you didn't pick from the most famous actors though, playing it safe with lower level British ones. I was a bit disappointed that two of those who did nominate very famous ones went for the same person and got an extra point. These are just a selection of the losers who have never won an Oscar: Clint Eastwood Donald Sutherland Richard Harris Cary Grant Peter Sellers Richard Burton Tom Cruise Robert Redford Gene Kelly Bob Hope Tony Curtis Jim Carrey Gene Wilder Charlie Chaplin Christopher Lloyd Peter O'Toole Liam Neeson Warren Beatty Leonardo DiCaprio Colin Farrell Fred Astaire Orson Welles Omar Sharif James Mason Robert Mitchum Errol Flynn Vincent Price Brad Pitt Will Smith Kirk Douglas Kevin Bacon Johnny Depp Greta Garbo Marilyn Monroe Rita Hayworth Shirley Temple Ava Gardner Carole Lombard Lauren Bacall Natalie Wood Debbie Reynolds Barbara Stanwyck Michelle Pfeiffer Glenn Close Sigourney Weaver Doris Day Judy Garland Deborah Kerr Myrna Loy Mae West Marlene Dietrich Title: Re: The Losers' RSQ Post by: MintTrav on August 14, 2014, 09:11:47 PM

For future reference passes should be optional. In the situation that someone doesn't pass a question there's nothing to be done. They just score points for every question as normal. It only hurts them to not pass and not anyone else. Never quite understood why people put you MUST pass a question... Not clear that Brownstein has done any acting either.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portlandia_(TV_series) I have at least one solo 7" record by her at home, and countless songs written and sung by her but released under a band moniker. regardless, you didn't specify it had to be a song released as a solo artist.
