In the case of my fellow Norwegian poker/gambling is banned in Norway and we all love it here. 100% not a tax evade in his case.

If you're following the WSOP final table tonight, why not give yourself a sweat by hopping in the WSOP Main Event Final pools at www.stakesandladders.com? Answer 8 questions, predicting what will happen at the final table. If your answers are more accurate than the other entrants then you win money. There are 3 levels of entry: £1, £5 and £25, and we have put double guarantees on the prize pools so there is almost definitely going to be an overlay. It'll give you something to cheer for whilst watching the final table, and you could win a few quid if you predict well.

What a weird hand. Can't see how he ever has Qx for a 1.5x pot size, obviously it'd be an insane call but its almost aq or nothing right? I guess Cleaner does jam AQ because he obviously think the calling range on the river is Qx only and might as well stack that/balance as its never raising. Disappointed we didn't get a river tank especially as 8x might be the top of our range there. I was getting pretty bored and now I'm so excited, what a game.

Yes obviously sick call with so much on the line. Also think Newhouse gave it away by snap shoving. Think he tanks a bit if he has it.

Title: Re: 2014 WSOP: The November Nine
Post by: rfgqqabc on November 11, 2014, 05:24:58 AM
I feel like people check jx there over tt because they feel like TT deserves to win cos you know they got dealt a premium whereas Jx is unsure but feels a touch less at risk because they are less scared of overs and have more outs vs an overpair. Flop peel so bad by newhouse, wouldnt even hate a fold pre. Its not like hes going to get abused when they find out his hand, they'll find out hes right. Tonking never light peeling from the big, I think his only loose play was the weird a6o open.

Tonking looked like he wanted to vomit on the river, I'm going for a sick reverse tell. :P

Newhouse can poss fold pre def fold flop and turn bet is criminal.

Title: Re: 2014 WSOP: The November Nine
Post by: scotty77 on November 11, 2014, 05:37:57 AM
Pretty certain he wasn't bluffing river.  He showed his hand like the nuts once called and snap looked crushed.  Well that's how I took it to me.  Can't wait to see a clip.

The biggest reason NOT to call river w QQ is the psychological impact of finishing back to back 9th IMO.

Title: Re: 2014 WSOP: The November Nine
Post by: GreekStein on November 11, 2014, 06:40:04 AM
Newhouse was very lucky to make it to 9th imo.

He isn't in the class of the likes of Jacobsen, Stephensen and Van Hoof.

I don't like his shove at all, especially given his image and how few jacks he has pre, though he of all people has a few more jacks than others. Also agree that he did it far too quickly. That's adrenaline for ya.

yeah the better players wiill definitely punish him now they've seen him check back that 55 hand. He has a good seat though

hard to punish him if he doesnt value bet thinly though, maybe exploit him folding vs his value bets.

i think hes best player on final, was tipping him pre final.

anyway 55 hand, he opened utg, bb (newhouse) defended)

j76, bet, call

turn 5, bet, call

river k, chk chk

newhouse got jj, 77, 66, 98 (all off suit combos/all suited combos) 43 (all suited combos/perhaps off suit? newhouse v splashy) that beat us

his river calling range that we beat is, kj, j7, 67, maybe few others

he can also jam river a lot with 78, 86 kind of hands and put us in brutal spot.

not sure why everybody thinks river is terrible? saw him getting a lot of stick on twitter. maybe i just looking through rose tinted glasses though

I'd hate to be at the final table if this is the grief you get. I'd happily check-call the river there, rather than face a shove over a bet.

And by "I'd hate to be at the final table", I mean the million dollars aside...

What do people think of Pappas call off for almost all his stack with AJ from the small blind vs a 22bb shove from Jacobson from the button? Five left and three equal shorty stacks at that point.

three left overnight

The 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event has been whittled down to its final three players, and the trio will return on Tuesday to play down to a champion that will walk away with the top prize of $10 million. The three players remaining are Dutchman Jorryt van Hoof, Swede Martin Jacobson, and Norwegian Felix Stephensen, and heading into Tuesday, van Hoof has the lead with 89.625 million in chips.

Jacobson sits second with 64.75 million, and Stephensen is the shortest stack with 46.1 million.

what were your impressions of the first day of the final table? who shone?

when does it start tonight?

1.30am. Not staying up to watch though. It might have been interesting to watch Politano or Pappas, or even to anti-rail Nasty Newhouse. The rest are too dull to bother watching.

Sweden’s Martin Jacobson Wins World Series of Poker® Main Event

Jacobson Wins $10 Million, His First WSOP Gold Bracelet and Becomes first Swedish winner

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 11, 2014) – It’s quite fitting that in the year the Rio was celebrating the 10th anniversary of hosting the World Series of Poker and first prize was $10 million, that the winner of the event would be holding pocket tens.

Martin Jacobson, a 27-year old poker professional from Stockholm, Sweden (now residing in London, England) has captured poker’s world championship, winning the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event crown and becoming his country’s first champion in gaming’s richest and most prestigious event.

Jacobson’s pocket tens bested Felix Stephensen’s Ace-Nine of Hearts.  The flop came 3 of spades, 9 of clubs and ten of clubs, giving Jacobson trip tens, while Stephensen picked up a pair of nines.  The King of Diamonds on the turn sealed Stephensen’s fate, and the river 4 of clubs made it official.  Jacobson, a long-time pro who has had many near victories in his career, finally captures a title – the title all poker players dream of winning

“It is surreal,” said Jacobson shortly after the victory.  “I have been so focused the past couple days.  I felt comfortable and surprisingly calm.  I don’t know, it just felt like it was meant to be.”

From an event that began way back on July 5, 2014 with 6,683 hopefuls who each ponied up the $10,000 entry fee, Jacobson ultimately outlasted them all, capturing all 200,490,000 chips in play and winning the $10 million first place prize and his very first WSOP gold bracelet.  The total prize pool up for grabs in the event was $62,825,752.

The 24-year old Stephensen, from Oslo, Norway, now residing in London, England, was the runner-up. Despite not capturing the championship, he can take solace in his $5,147,911 consolation prize and a sensational finish in poker’s ultimate competition.

Jacobson captured the gold bracelet and $10,000,000 late this evening at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in the famed Penn & Teller theatre.  The event took nearly 41 levels of play to complete, which equates to more than 81 hours of poker play to reach a victor.  In real time though, the event took 10 playing days, spread out over 128 days to become the champion.  When play began in July, players started with 30,000 in chips and the blinds were at 50 and 100.  When play completed at 9:43 pm in Las Vegas with 46 minutes, 8 seconds left in Level 41, blinds were at 800,000 and 1,600,000 with antes of 200,000.

Three-handed play began Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm PT and lasted roughly three and a half hours before Eindhoven, Netherlands native Jorryt van Hoof, 31 was eliminated in third place. van Hoof had an opportunity to become Netherland’s first Main Event champion, but his terrific run finally ended after besting 6,681 other hopefuls. The now London resident, van Hoof collected $3,807,753 for his efforts.

It took another 45 minutes before Jacobson defeated his final opponent to make history.

Rounding out the final table were:

4th place: William Tonking, 27, of Flemington, New Jersey, $2,849,763

5th place: Billy Pappaconstantinou, 30, of Lowell, Massachusetts, $2,143,794

6th place: Andoni Larrabei, 22, of Basque, Spain, $1,622,471

7th place: Daniel Sindelar, 30, of Columbus, Nebraska, $1,236,084

8th place: Bruno Politano, 32, of Fortaleza, Brazil, $947,172

9th place: Mark Newhouse, 29, of Los Angeles, Calif., $730,725

Monday’s action was carried on a 30-minute delay on ESPN2. Tonight’s finale was carried on the flagship ESPN on 30-minute delay  The 2014 WSOP Main Event began in July with a total of 6,683 entrants. The event’s total prize pool was $62,825,752, with more than $28 million going to the final nine players. A total of 693 entrants cashed in the event.

As has become tradition in recent years, Main Event play was suspended in July when the tournament reached its final nine players. It resumed with the “November Nine” taking to the felt 118 days later, on Monday with one hour, 35 minutes and 24 seconds remaining in Level 35, with antes of 50,000 and blinds at 200,000 and 400,000.  Play lasted nearly 12 hours in real time, but consumed 9 hours, 35 minutes of tournament clock play.

The 2014 WSOP attracted a record 82,360 players from 110 countries to its 65 events, generating a total prize pool of more than $227 million, the most in the series’ 45-year history.
