Backed Boston Celtics in the summer of 2007 to win their division at 5/1 in the following nba season with Hills.  They were 20-62 in the previous season but i backed them 2 days before it was public knowledge they were about to sign two huge free agents Kevin Garnettt and Ray Allen which made them instant contenders for the title and about 1/20 to win their division, the weakest in the nba by a country mile.  I look back and wonder why i didn't back it for half of my bankroll.  Easily the biggest edge i have ever had on a bet.  They won their division with two months to spare in the season.  They were also backed from 150/1 to 6/1 to win the NBA title which i also had a fair piece of but the 5/1 for the division was literally stealing money.

A mate rang me from a Thai brothel about 15 years ago.

He had been there for about 6 hours with a very famous snooker player.

They had been on the lash for over 24 hours and he estimated that the player had consumed 30 bottles of Chang and a decent sized bag of coke.

He was due to play his first round match in the Thailand Masters in about 90 minutes.

His opponent was 11/4.......

Someone posted in TFT top scorer for Wigan at the start of 2012-2013 at 10/1- a new striker from the Spanish League whose name escapes me. Maxed out at the time at 10/1 and in a few weeks it went off at 6/4 fav and sailed to victory

Arouna Kone, I think it was, and what a great bet, too!

Mr Kimber's Michael Carter Williams for Rookie of the Year in the NBA @ 16 & 14/1 is prob the best I can remember.

Bookies must have gotten smashed to pieces on that, because so many laying decent prices, and he pretty much won on the bridle.

Best = Nadal at 16/1 when he won first French Open.  Backed before clay season started and he went off way shorter and romped home.

Worst = Sold Labour majority in 1997 on the spreads when I was a student.  £800 holes are hard to fill when you are on a student budget!

Best one that actually won was Shaun Murphy to win the world snooker championship at 150/1. Only had £1 on it (student life), but boy that was a sweaty final to watch!

£2 e/w Terimon at 500-1 in the 89 derby. Clive Brittain, Mouse Roberts

second behind Nashwan, and to a student £250 back then was a right touch!

Managed to get 16/1 on myself beating a former colleague at table tennis with him playing with a bat, me with a polyurethane lunchbox from the canteen. I had been practising for a fair old while.

1000/1 double - Chris Hollins to win Strictly and Jedward to win X-Factor - has to go down as 'the one that got away'.

Messaging Doobs to ask if he felt like accepting a bit of backing for the Winamax main.

100/1 on myself beating a friend at snooker, him playing with a cue and me with a mop I found in the utility room. An attritional affair played out after a fair few bottles of red and I duly 'coasted' home.

I'm decent at the old TT so in my old work I had to do similar just to attempt to even the games out. Was playing with DVD cases, empty 2ltr Coke bottles, and other ridiculous things we could find.

Well played.

Jean van De Velde to win the 1999 British Open.  Had a small bet on him to win pre tournament at 100/1 but by the second day I had watched him a bit and was convinced he was going to win so I started backing him in running.  Backed him at all rates from 20-1 down to having my last bet at, I think 6/4.  It is one of the only times I have had a bet again and again.  Standing on the 18th he was two shots clear of the field and hit his drive and it it just missed the stream and I turned to my mate and said "that was a bit bloody close".  The rest, as they say, is history.  I still have nightmares about him chasing me with his shoes and socks off......

Paul Lawrie in 1999 Open at Carnoustie. It was the early days of in running and Stan James were the trailblazer, Ironic as they are now so far behind 365, Paddy etc.

Conditions were horrendous and he was looking like posting a good score on back 9 so speculatively backed at 66/1 Ew 3 places, had £25ew and still needed the most historic blow up ever at the 18th and a play off to cop. I remember going metal when Van Der Valde kept losing his head at 18

Still in running but at the moment its gotta be 1/3 on Nicola Sturgeon next SNP leader. Wasn't mine though, Tighty pointed it out.

Romford jackpot had reached ~35-38K and was rolling onto a graded card on a Wednesday night where its 3-1 the field- we decided to buy it as soon as the doors open by covering every possible permutation in the 6 races for £46k, lose 27% rake straight away. In the end the prizepool was a record (still to this day) of 88k I think. So if we won it outright we won loads, if another perm won we would nearly break even and somehow if 3 or more won we would lose. 3 dog in 5th leg only had our ticket and smashed and won. Was obviously a great maths bet but whole buzz was good because needed cash in them days as didn't take card for tote bets, so trying to get the money together between Monday night and weds was good fun and got paid out in cash.

Best Loser

Must be 8-10 years ago id guess, we had a friend who was playing for West Ham Youth. West Ham had massive injury crisis and our friend had told us a centre half was going to be playing up front- think it was Ian Pearce will see if can dig it up- anyway was when I just had started in poker and gambling and remember bloke next to me saying just gotta go nut down on this, opportunities like this don't come around very often. I was nearly all in for net worth, managed to get £400 first goal 50/1 £1000 anytime 14/1 £400 last goal 50/1

Was the Monday sky game, West Ham at home v some average side. Boring game, 0-0 and in the 40th minute or so my man misses an absolute sitter. Still have nightmares about it to this day as betfair never had first goalscorer/anytime markets back then so you had to take your punishment.

"West Ham United 0
Southampton 1
by Gordon Thrower

Gutted. Again.
Another home match and another defeat. I've long since given up approaching any match with optimism these days but I was in reasonable spirits during the pre-match session in the Wakefield. I'd had a smashing weekend at the wedding of two good friends and both families and the vicar had forgiven me for my part in the candle-lighting incident that nearly burnt the church down so things were looking up.

The first shock of the evening came with the news that Kanoute was nowhere to be seen on the team sheet. This was despite earlier statements to the effect that Fredi was a definite starter. This bombshell was followed by the news that Ian Pearce was to play up front alongside Defoe with DiCanio dropping back to play just behind the front two. Pearce's elevation to striker meant a return for Repka, whose last appearance had been during the first half of the Leeds match.

We started brightly enough, once Southampton had actually turned up. Apparently nobody realised that there might be a bit of traffic about during the rush hour on a Monday in London so Southampton only arrived at 7.30pm. Which was fair enough as far as I'm concerned - I only arrived at 7.45 myself. We dominated the first half-hour with several good chances going begging. Defoe hooked a volley wide when unmarked from six yards. Sinclair headed wide from a DiCanio free-kick whilst Carrick, who had an excellent first half, produced a good, if comfortable save from keeper Niemi.

And what of stand-in striker Pearce? Well he did win a few in the air but he looked a lot like a player who hasn't played regularly up front for 10 years. His chance when one on one with Niemi was probably the most clear cut that we had. in the first half and I couldn't help feeling that had it fallen to a proper striker we might have gone in 1-0 up."

Found it. Wow 12 years ago, before played poker and was at uni. Doubt anyone got an xmas gift that year.

Some great stories

Best would be a treble at Southwell a good few years back which gave me a nice roll at the time.

Worst would be a silly tricast that i still cant remember why i placed it at Lingfield one day with a friend.

66/1,33/1 somehow kicked way clear and i had Hayley Moore (Garys daughter) on a 20's shot to fill the frame and she dropped her hands 100 yards out

Painful even typing that now

First big plot I ever had any inside info on.

Well to do young guy running local independent bookie(who was always giving us best odds on everything etc)went to work as second Head Lad at John Edwards. Told us that an ok horse called Yahoo worked working like nothing else and his aim was Tommy Whittle up at Haydock. When he won that he would go for Gold Cup.

"When he won!" Music to our ears. Bunch of Cotswold bumpkins with some "Inside info". 100-1 on Yahoo for Gold Cup please Mr Local Bookies. "Certainly Lads. Good name that!"

Off we trundle to Newbury and see Yahoo dot up on some black and white TV that some bookie had behind his pitch. Boot filled, dream alive.

Gold Cup Day. Big lunch in pub next door, 11 mates, all in up to the max. Excitement at fever pitch. Pretty sure Yahoo gets backed in all day from 33-1 to 16s(could be wrong, long time ago)so it all adds to the build up.

Then the race. For those that don't know/remember, it became a head to head between Yahoo and Desert Orchid(the horse that hated Cheltnham....) Yahoo took the lead round the bottom bend and it looked all over. The bookies was roaring and the people that lived above the very low ceiling were thumping the ceiling as hard from above, as we were from below. The place was going mental, even the half dozen that had backed Dessie were half willing us to win.

Then Dessie roared back and got back up to win by a length or so, and even the decent place money we made couldnt pick us up. Devastated, while most of England cheered home the Legend.

Painful, even now.

Don't get me started on Silver Patriarch in the Derby.....

There is a thread called 'interesting article' on here that features a friend of mine called Vas. We worked in the same office many years ago and about 2-3 months before the 2002 World Cup I asked him what price he would lay me that the theme tune to the new Nike Advert would be number 1 in the official UK hit parade at any stage that year.

He gave me a tenner at 33/1 it would be number 1 in the UK that year.

It went on to be number one in 24 countries

Best loser has to be on a Sunday last year, where I had one horse in my nagme, and chucked it in a fiver treble with 2 horses put up by Hugh Taylor for something to watch through the afternoon.

First 2 win, and I've got about £500 going onto myboyalfie at 7/1

http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/results/13-10-2013/goodwood/result/587612/gwa-cars-and-finance-handicap/video

That's the race if you have a skybet account, and fancy a laugh at my expense :D

I thought I had done my dough after 5 furlongs, because the horse was getting beaten to within an inch of its life, and how it actually played out was just incredibly sick!

My old folks were are Carnoustie for the open all week  that year, with it just being a little over 2 hours to drive home they didnt book a hotel for the sunday night, and after paul had finished his round they decided to head home early. they enjoy walking round the course with the scots my dad in full highland dress. It had been a horrid week if i recall and they had been soaked . they were on the road listedning to it as jean threw it away on the 18th. they nearly turned round and headed back to join in the party but was to far up the road.

I always feel for VDV when this comes up.

VDV got really ul imo. If you play the course 51 weeks of the year there is no Grandstand to hit and in any of those 51 other weeks he hits it in the rough green side and probably gets up and down in enough shots to win. It's not like he is the first player to get into water to see if he could hit his ball either, Bill Haas won the Fedex Cup by doing that a few years ago.

T4T at its's best was when we spent a morning deciding that Monday was the most likely day for a too posh to push girl to have C section if required. That Mondays are a good day for first time mothers as they rest up at the weekend ;o). Some invaluable advice from Dubai gave us Monday as the most likely day for the Royal baby to be born and a 6/1 winner.

I have always been convinced that Jean van der Velde was actually very unlucky on that 72nd hole at Carnoustie as it looked to me that he had deliberately played his approach-shot into the grandstand so that he would get a free drop in the drop-zone next to the green.

The shot actually hit half-way up one of the metal stanchions supporting the stand and rebounded thirty-odd yards backwards into the ditch, and the rest is history.

That genuinely nearly brought a tear to my eye.

Another cracking bet i had which probably got me hooked on the game tbf.  First year at uni in 1993/4 and the scottish prem league seemed an absolute haven for draws.  It was 2 points for a win and appeared little incentive for teams to ever play for a win esp at the bottom of the league as losing one point from a draw didn't have the upside of gaining 2 points from winning.  This was the days of minimum trebles on coupons in the shops and 10% betting tax on all bets.  I was forced to have trebles and up bets on draws every week.   Most draws were priced at 5/2 11/4 minimum every week.  Games involving rangers and Celtic were closer to 3/1 or 7/2 to draw most weeks even though the league table made it look like a draw should be around a 5/4 6/4 shot.  Pretty much every team scored 1 and conceded 1 goal every week on average.

I did this all of the season after about week 6 and had 3 draws minimum every week apart from 2.  4 draws in a week several times.  5 draws once and hit the jackpot one midweek when all 6 were draws and collected over £2500 for my tiny multiple bet (doesn't sound that much now but when you consider the maximum student loan was £900 a year and your annual student grant was £2200 in those days it was substantial cash).  This is the bet that got me hooked on the game 20 years ago.  I thought i had cracked it.  The SPL totally fucked it in the summer and made the league 3 points for a win for the following season and it was back to the drawing board to find an edge!

Here is the league table from that great season in 1993/94.  Quite an incredible view given the state of Scottish football now.

1   Rangers (C)   44   22   14   8   74   41   +33   58   1994–95 UEFA Champions League Qualifying round
2   Aberdeen           44   17   21   6   58   36   +22   55   1994–95 UEFA Cup Preliminary round
3   Motherwell    44   20   14   10   58   43   +15   54
4   Celtic            44   15   20   9   51   38   +13   50
5   Hibernian       44   16   15   13   53   48   +5   47
6   Dundee United   44   11   20   13   47   48   −1   42   1994–95 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup First round
7   Hearts          44   11   20   13   37   43   −6   42
8   Kilmarnock           44   12   16   16   36   45   −9   40
9   Partick Thistle   44   12   16   16   46   57   −11   40
10   St Johnstone (R)   44   10   20   14   35   47   −12   40   Relegation to First Division
11   Raith Rovers (R)   44   6   19   19   46   80   −34   31
12   Dundee (R)   44   8   13   23   42   57   −15   29

Paul Lawrie in 1999 Open at Carnoustie. It was the early days of in running and Stan James were the trailblazer, Ironic as they are now so far behind 365, Paddy etc.

Conditions were horrendous and he was looking like posting a good score on back 9 so speculatively backed at 66/1 Ew 3 places, had £25ew and still needed the most historic blow up ever at the 18th and a play off to cop. I remember going metal when Van Der Valde kept losing his head at 18
Jean van De Velde to win the 1999 British Open.

Meh results orientated imo Claypole!!!!!!

Ha ha - also ridiculously spooky we posted same time. Happy birthday as well

My two favourite bets were tips from here.

Pab to win the BlueSQ GUKPT final in 2008 - $10 EW at 125/1. And I wasn't the only one from here - don't think they ran a book on poker ever again.

Also, Lord Chompy's in depth knowledge of the Swedish Eurovision scene - 9/1 for this guy to win Melodifestivalen. Let's all enjoy it together.

I remember the Pab one, was brilliant

might have to dig out the thread, several people completely took them apart.

Though with regard to BSQ, I sort of miss them now. A hark back at a more clueless age of odds-setting and bookmaker marketing!

Oh god, not sure I've told this story on blonde yet. I'll try and type out a decent version but might need to google some facts, definitely repressed the memory.

Came back late from Pads's one day and fancied a sweat on the football for the next day. I'd backed the turnarounds (HT/FT) in games at various  points as I'd read an article or forum post detailing reasons they were a decent bet. It was late on in the premier league season and the week before the FA cup final. I ended up doing a few bets on the Cardiff/Chelsea, Liverpool/Newcastle and Norwich/Arsenal, on both sides, and was trying to perm some doubles and trebles between the results. Its an absolute pain to do and in the end i end up chucking on a £10 lucky 15 across the 3 above with the favorites winning at full time and Hull/Arsenal in the FA cup final. Two came in on the Sunday and all of a sudden I had about £5k equity riding on Hull/Arsenal at 25s. On the day I spoke to a bunch of guys such as Shallow and Dubai, asking the best way to lay any off. It turned out it was pretty unfeasible, the price had drifted from 22s to 28-33s, but I was primed to lay the gunners at half time if Hull happened to poke one home. Watching the game was a pretty big sweat. Hull score in the 4th minute and I'm all over it. They continued with a second shortly after and nearly got a heartbreaking third.

I went into half time trying to move most of the contents of my current account into betfair to secure the lay as Arsenal were 5/2. Dubai helped me out with a bit and Trigg was loving the rail sweating harder than me. The second half is mostly a blur, I remember two really good penalty shouts being denied, and I felt like the dream was dying. A debatable corner was given and Sagna bundled one over in the 71st to give me one of the sickest twenty minute sweats I'll have. With about ten minutes to go, Arsenal broke down the right and a scuffed cross came in, rolling through the Hull defenders to Keiran Gibbs whose about 9 yards out. He takes a touch and smashed it straight over the bar. The remaining ten play out in a turgid manner, I spent more time cursing on skype than watching the game. I remember there being a chance in the last minute of injury time but it just wasn't to be. Still a decent touch don't get me wrong, but Gibb's miss cost me a proper story. VC closed my account within 3 days. Pretty comic stuff really.

1997 Grand National that got postponed due to a bomb scare.

Can't remember what I was going to pick/picked on the Saturday but picked Lord Gyllene on the Monday
Remember my mate was working and had picked it out for the Saturday but never got on, on the Monday.

Worst was some pick 10 results on the Saturday coupon for the footie, pre internet and tax free betting. Had the first 9 results in. Tenth game was 3rd in the league at home to 3rd bottom, leading 1-0 and they away team scored an equalizer in the 87th minute. Cost me about £1k

Due to me only being 15/16 and swearing like mad at the tv, got banned from watching any footie for two weeks!!!

Italy to win the World Cup 2006.  The game was riddled with bad shit going on over there, think they lost there first 3 qualifying games and had drifted all the way out to 22/1 I backed them at all sorts of prices down to 8/1 took me a week to collect winnings from all the different bookies i had bets with back then.   Wasn't mega money at the time it was enough to clear off 3 credit cards and still have a decent wedge.

Sublimity/Joes Edge double at Chelters.

Mid week crazy on international friendlies including Austrailia to beat England at 8/1.  I had 4 teams in a lucky 15 that paid about 4k for peanuts.

Vicor Wanyama first GS for Celtic v Barcelona a couple of years back.  Silly price on betfair.

Been plenty of near misses.  Including last night when I had 7 games up with a combo overs/unders and was waiting on unders in porto game for £3k.  Sick.

My best bet was my first.

17 years old, never been near a bookies let alone a race course.  Got a seat on a bus to Huntingdon races from the Golf club as someone dropped out last minute, free bus, free ticket, I could hardly say no.  I had £40 in my pocket.  The old boys on the trip imparted their "wisdom" on me all the way there.  I remember being amazed that one guy had a £1400 bankroll for the day, it really was another world.  When I commented that was a full fitted set of Ping beryllium irons, woods, bag and change, the bus laughed as one and pointed out there was more to life then golf - could this be true? Their war stories of previous trips, aided by an endless supply of hip flasks containing sloe gin had me hyped to the max when we arrived.

I had formed my strategy, would strictly follow bank roll management of £2.5 e/w or £5 win each race and only one burger, I would at least be in the game all day.

A Bacon Roll, a burger and chips and a pint before the first race and I was chasing.  I walked the row of bookies for the first race, too nervous to step up but then the horses raced past, the cheers rang out and I knew I wanted to be part of this.  I remember my chosen bookie looked like he had been standing there since 1954, trench coat, trilby, chalk board.  The person in front of me paid with a £50 note, don't think I had ever seen one before.  1950's man produced the biggest roll of notes I had ever seen from his pocket - I can remember the twang of that huge elastic band, my face must have been a picture as I realised it was a roll of 50's.

As I stood open mouthed, 1950's man said "what you want youngster?"  Now all that wisdom and advice imparted earlier was gone.  Nerves kicked in and I mumbled "Casino Royale*" as he glared waiting for me to finish, rolling his eyes at those standing behind me, I added "tenner?"
"Casino Royale, Ten Pounds, Junior" and a small ticket was pushed into my hand.  As I walked away I looked at the ticket I realised I had backed a Win Only.  Back into the queue, and after a few minutes I was before 1950's man again.  I stammered something about wanting £5 e/w not £10 win, before the win bit had left my mouth "Casino Royale, Fiver each way, Junior" was stated and another ticket was placed into my hand.  I fumbled in my pocket for that last tenner, and skulked away.

I stood by the rail and watched the horses race past, I had no idea what silks my jockey was wearing, couldn't see the numbers on the horses, but I can remember the feeling when my horses name was read out. I remember 1950's man laughing heartily as I presented both my tickets.  "£548 Junior" 1950's man said - I was in a daze.  I was shaking so badly as he counted that money out - 10 £50 notes.  I spent the rest of the day with a hand in my front pocket, thumbing those notes, keeping them safe convinced they would be stolen.

I spent the 48 quid, got positively pissed and never backed another horse all day.   The £500 got me a set of 2nd hand Ping Eye 2 Beryllium's, blue spot, and those clubs changed my life and would pay me back many times over.

* Funny I have no idea if the horse was called Casino Royale, it was Casino something.  Bizarrely almost 25 years on I can still see 1950's man, the roll of 50's and even the twang of that elastic band, but could I be certain of that horses name? Not on your nelly.

Probably JW? he's always there degening It up...

Probably my sweetest bet(s) ever were on England winning the RWC in 2003. I regularly rounded my party poker account down to the nearest $100 and put loads of small bets on England over an 18 month period up to the event. I probably had 50-100 small bets placed over that period that accumulated into probably around $5k placed, by far my biggest bet on one event. Obviously being a massive rugby fan and winning the bet you can how elated I was  :)

1994, Wales v Scotland 5 Nations opening Match.

A couple of weeks before my mate and I had watched Cardiff play someone and Mikey Rayer scored a try where he had slid in from the 22 metre line. Fast forward a couple of weeks and Wales hosted Scotland.

It had pissed down for about three days and Wales had Ieuan Evans and Nigel Walker on the wings. Both were speed merchants and the ground was definitely against them. I popped in a Bookies, can't remember which one, and asked for a price on Rayer to score the first try. The guy behind the counter quite dismissively informed me that Rayer wasn't starting. I told him I knew that so he had a quick conflab with the Manager and offered me 50/1. My mate and I had a tenner each on it.

It must be said that back in those days there wasn't a slew of subs like there is today, especially not tactical ones. Nigel Walker was injury prone though and Rayer, even though he was a full back, was the Guy who would replace him.

This doesn't show the first try but you can see from the second why we wanted to be on Rayer.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_xc8lNhNvM

We were actually sat not far away from where he slid in and celebrated like we had scored the try ourselves. Happy days.

My best bet ever was probably my one and only Cheltenham experience. I had seen Denman lose to Madison Du Berlais at Kempton and felt he needed the run. He looked good in the paddock and all seemed well.

Got to Cheltenham and he was 13/2 without Kauto Star which struck me as a huge price. Having lost every race previous I chucked the contents of my pocket on it and it duly held on for 2nd to bank an extremely successful day.

Had 2 winning lucky 15's which annoys my dad no end as he has been trying for decades and yet to get one!

The number 11s bet on here was a great spot (by someone) was such value it was untrue looking at the games and duly obliged but shame it was max 25 quid.

One of my other favourites was 1997-98 title race. I guess a young Dubai would have been all over this?

Man Utd were miles clear but Arsenal had games in hand and more importantly, United had to travel to Highbury. I remember one bookie actually paid out on United and I think Arsenal were 6/1. I convinced my mate we had to play and we had a ton each on Arsenal. Slowly but surely Arsenal won their games in hand and then beat United 1-0, I think, at home. I think the Gunners did the Double that year as well?

One of my other favourites was 1997-98 title race. I guess a young Dubai would have been all over this?

Man Utd were miles clear but Arsenal had games in hand and more importantly, United had to travel to Highbury. I remember one bookie actually paid out on United and I think Arsenal were 6/1. I convinced my mate we had to play and we had a ton each on Arsenal. Slowly but surely Arsenal won their games in hand and then beat United 1-0, I think, at home. I think the Gunners did the Double that year as well?

Me and the Missus, who was six months pregnant with my Daughter, traveled around France for a month on the winnings.

Great story.

Yep, they won the double that year.

On Boxing Day 1997 Arsenal were 13 points behind United with 1 game in hand. So a massive turnaround and a great bet. So much for the myth of United being better in the 2nd half of the season :).  You are right about beating United 1-0 at home but that was actually with 10 games  to go.

Though with regard to BSQ, I sort of miss them now. A hark back at a more clueless age of odds-setting

*insert The Camel joke here*

I'd left Blue Squirrel many years prior to 2008.

Think you can lay the blame for this rick squarely on the doorstep of Mr Raab.

Was a joint effort but prob more me than Jon  ;oopsy;

Nakor - just wanted to thank you for posting that tale. Brilliantly written and really, really made me smile.

Think Stjernberg was my favourite bet of last year.

Best single hit was Ukraine in 2004 (ten years ago? really?), backed from 16-1 into 3-1, laid off on the night, and then re-backed at double figures around halfway.

YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYqB1eyN8B4

Sickest near-miss was Belgium in 2003, backed at 125-1, 100-1, 80-1 and 66-1. Double-figure points clear with two juries left and nabbed on the line by Turkey. Still fumming.

Sitting at work when a friend pops up on MSN Messenger (how we communicated around work), lets me know the moment we all wait for weeks, Camel has chucked up a horse on Blonde.

Sneak away to the toilet to call up Laddies and lose my head for a moment and chuck £40 win 8/1 (Balla for myself)

Go back to my desk and wait until said friend pops up with emoticons announcing our victory.

Found this...

I remember you posting that bet and how sick the run out was. Unreal. Remember how bullish you were when you posted it originally.

One of my faves was when I tipped the colts -3.5 vs the jags, Jones agreed with me and slowly I kept pressing, all the shrewdies got on for chunks, was the biggest bet I had ever had at the time. We posted it up on here and to our horror the camel stated he was big the other way (felt like we had lost already)

I remember I was in DTD that evening as the colts won by 35 :)

Think that was the weekend I stayed at yours for a Rendezvous festival in 2009?

I made the final of the main, and then snap busted in about 3 hands :D

I remember you saying that you thought it was golden, but Keith had said he liked the other side...

Wayne Mardle to win the World Darts Championship, tipped up by Mr Dubai.

Might have a massive coup.

If i told you a 5time world championship semi finalist was 1000-1 for said event you would think im mad. But thats the case in Darts this year. The only downside is the player is RETIRED! But story is friend was out last night rang me and said pop to pub for few beers, whilst there bump into Wayne Mardle who i met at Luton a few years ago when he was deep in GUKPT. Said hello and watched him throw a few arrows. Apparently he been training more than ever, has averaged 108 in a match for a Romford pub team last week and the drift he used to have into the 5 and 1 beds seems to have gone. Obviously its far easier throwing great in non pressure matches than it is on the big stage but he was always a big stage player- talented but inconsistent. Said all family problems are sorted and the commentary has re-ignited his passion into the game and he is back in love with it. The plan is for him to start playing on the tour again September time so should be coming to the boil by December, could be 50s come then if he averaging 100s in games. Ive rang ladbrokes, hills and corals for prices- am expecting 1000s with them but Ladbrokes odds compiler not in until tomoro and other 2 are getting back to me. 1000s with skybet now, recommend max bet each way Tikay

That was an awesome April fool.  Sitting at home watching Mardle's price collaspe as the skybet loltraders had him for fortunes!  Think they cut him to 100/1 at one stage even though he was never playing in a million years because he didn't even have a tour card to try and qualify!

A few seasons back when Posh were in the Championship for the first/second time the local Ladbrukes offered a promo 250/1 'Any unquoted scoreline.' (They went up to 4-2 either side or 3-3 on the draw) so any scoreline above those figures is a win.

I did not place it on this 'promo' game and it did not come in.

A few weeks later we were playing Cardiff. Last time we played them it was 4-4 so I went in and asked the same staff member that was working promo day if he'd offer me the price. He did. I only put a few quid on it and a friend of mine put a fiver on. We won 4-3 and we were laughing as we took nearly £2K away.

About a month later I pop in and ask for the same bet before Barnsley (H) to which I'm told. 'Can only give you 150's mate.' So I stick another small amount on it. No more than a fiver anyway.

With about 10 mins to go and the score at 3-3 Barnsley score one on the break. I 'quietly' celebrated my bink.

After that said member of staff only ever offered me between 33/1 - 66/1 on the bet to which I was obviously backing whenever he was working. With Posh a 4-2 + comes in once a season so this was a no brainier. It paid a couple more times.

Last I heard the staff member been moved stores. I've checked all stores in Peterborough City Centre every home matchday since. Just about given up.

About 10 years ago, my brother was working in China as an engineer on the Miss World set.

I remember him ringing home in a fit of excitement to tell me the comp was rigged and Miss USA was going to win and we should all start 'buying' money on it.

I lumped on at a variety of prices from 16/1 to 8/1. Like a complete fool, I then told a few mates, who told a few mates, who told a few mates.

I started getting worried when Miss USA only became 2nd favourite and in the papers she was even referred to as 'heavily backed in the UK Miss USA'. I spoke to my brother before the event who reassured me, that she would win.

She came third :(

My brother told me that she had been bumped down at an emergency meeting between the organisers, worried about rumours of rigging.

I never even bothered to look at a picture of her. I had a look after the event. She did well to finish third.
