Title: Macau Asia Championship of Poker Series
Post by: GreekStein on October 10, 2014, 03:26:51 PM
I'm going to Macau in 12 days and will be playing the following tournaments:

25th October: $11,000 ($1mil Gte) Deepstack Championship NL

28th October: $15,000 PLO Championship

30th October: $8,800 (2mil Gte) NL

7th November: $8,800 NL

(All above amounts in are HKD so buy ins in GBP according to today's xe.com rate are £885, £1205 and 2x £707.

I will be selling 30% at a markup of 1.25 I will be playing regardless of selling or not and selling as a package only.

I have had my best ever poker year, with my first ever 6 figure month at online cash games in July. I play the odd bit of zoom PLO on stars but most of my action has come on other networks where I am playing mostly $200 through to $2k PLO though I have also played around 50,000 hands at $5k PLO this year and am up around 30 buy ins at those stakes.

My mindset is great these days and I've spent probably a total of 6/7 months in Macau within the last 2 years so not only do I know a lot of the regulars but I've played a lot of live poker and I know a lot of the regulars and the style of the Chinese so I think I'm very well placed to do well in these. I won't be staying in a hotel, I will be in an apartment with my girlfriend so will always be well rested and prepared for every event. There are a few higher buy in things that will be the focus of attention for a lot of the better players so I've made the decision to play these tournaments and play cash games whilst the higher buy in things are running rather than sell for those or satellite into those also).

I live with some very smart poker players and that's been the catalyst to improving a lot in all areas this year.

Enough of blowing my own trumpet as I'm still a big nosed twat most of the time.

One other drawback is that I haven't played a lot of live tournaments in a while but the last donkament I played this year I finished 6th and without bad beat stories should have won :)

Will be selling in minimum 1% chunks as I'm always happy to have lots of funkers:

1% = £43.80
5% = £219

etc

Arrived in Macau today. Had a good sleep but felt bad the last 2/3 days in Thailand so just taking it easy.

Will either go play chinese at Ivey's apartment or watch Ramsay's kitchen nightmares in my room. Leaning towards the latter.

Does anyone personally know Jono3131 or Killerkilsby? Would like to get in contact tomorrow if they don't reply to pms I sent today just to make sure they do or don't want their pieces.

I will not be updating the thread with tournament reports etc until after the series is over - all updates will be on my diary most days though.

Killerkilsby, Jono3131 - event 1 of the package is tomorrow. You can send to bank as per pm or to TonyKendall @ stars or GreekStein @ FTP.

If someone vouches for you here that's fine and I'll consider the piece as booked but if the pieces aren't received by Saturday 9am UK time I'm afraid the piece will have to be voided as I don't know either or you personally.

Hopefully you see this in time and can send not leaving the stake with a slight shortfall.

Ok Killerkilsby and Jono3131 unfortunately I have to cancel your pieces as haven't received replies or money from either of you.

First tournament is in 4 hours. Gym, food and then off we go.

Let's run like the sun!

Got 14.5k now about to go into 250/500 with ante.

Feel like I'm playing really well and I've made one tiny mistake and possibly one c-bet that you could argue is better not to make.

Anyhow feel good and I'm focusing like a deadman. Now I just need to try and play like him.

Also it rather irked me that Jono3131 and Killerkilsby took pieces and not only didnt ship anywhere but haven't contacted me, even just to say, 'Sorry, played against you online, think you're dogshit and wanna cancel the piece'. Even that would have been fine.

I don't read all threads anymore and didnt realise he was. I gave him action via pm.

It's really no big deal because whether I sold 10% or 40% I was going to play. It's more just the courtesy of non communication that annoyed me. I guess it highlights that the implementation of the 300 posts rule before posting on the staking boards is a good move.

Like I said, the actual percentages didnt matter in the end.

One thing I love about being staked is having funker and that potentially cost me several funkers etc.

Hey Doobs thanks very much for the offer - that's very much appreciated. However I squared things off already so I'm set for the remaining 2 and a half tournaments. I will include u in the group of people that I will give a first reserve on 5% of my WSOP main event at the same markup as this package incase you're interested later in the year.

Thanks for the gl wishes guys.

Got home and after a few hours chilling I went to sleep around 11pm. I woke up at 2am thinking it was morning already and it's now 11am and I haven't slept since. This means that I'm going to skip day 1a today and play day 1b instead. I don't want to be tired etc.

Playing 1b should be softer too as it's a friday though making day 2 will mean not having a day of rest inbetween which tbh I don't mind at all.

Update: this tournament has been immensely fun so far. Nice players all chatting and enjoying the game and I've been involved in a lot of fun hands.

Got 20k ATM could be a lot more but bricked A5cc vs 1010 on 235cc all in and got set over setted too.

37 left made it through from today's 248 and 29 made it through yday.

Average is around 65k and we have 42k.

Starting again really early tomorrow so I can't do a TR now as I need a good night's kip.

Blinds are huge tomorrow and it's going to be like a turbo shovefest so hope we run good.

Title: Re: Macau Asia Championship of Poker Series
Post by: GreekStein on November 01, 2014, 12:57:29 PM
Disappointed with the final result.

The tournament had a very quick strcuture and we didn't get any hands or set ups in our favour from 4 tables out.

With 3 tables left however, I definitely got a good seat on a great table. Everyone seemed so intent on laddering that they were playing really weak.

I was able to chip up from 120k to 310k and go well above average without showing down more than 1 hand.

When we moved table I sat down and first hand I got AQ in the hi-jack. I open to 16k at 4k/8k and the big stack 3-bet to 41k. I really considered all options here and ultimately decided to fold. He was very keen and quick to show me AK suited which I think is not a good show by him but made me feel good that I made the right play.

Unfortunately the A5 vs K5 hand proved to be crucial with 2 tables left. He shoved button for 110k and we call in the BB. We would have 450k if we held and 200 if we lost with average at 250k and just in a really nice position to just bully it up. The board rolled off   Th Ts 2s Ahrt 7h which is a nice run out for  Kh 5h.

That proved to be the turning point. We raise/folded one hand after that and raised and took down another.

My bustout with 13 players left - I had 174k with blinds at 5k 10k with 1k ante and in 6 minutes they were going to 6k 12k 2k so I shoved the sb with QJo when it folded to me and the big stack in the BB woke up with AK. The flop was a reasonable sweat  Qd Td Kc but it bricked off for another frustrating result. I'm pretty sure the shove here is unexploitable but I'll ask some tournament grinders whether they think it's optimal or not. Very interested to hear opinions.

I'm disappointed to have not run better but that's tournaments and I feel like I'm playing really good at the moment so hopefully I can save the win for that last tournament. We didn't want the 730k HKD anyway....

Unlike the PLO tournament that left me very upset and tilted, I feel fine about this one. Just standard. I can't wait to get some fucking sleep now.

Bugger.

Yeah - think there were around 430 runners in the end.

Thats the beauty of the beast with tournaments I guess. Only 1 guy is going home truly happy at the end of the 2 days.

It's also kind of a stupid motivation I have to play them. I have improved my game no end in the last year - both in PLO and in NL and even though I definitely believe it's cash for dough and tournaments for show, maybe the reason I want to win some tournaments is for validation. Why I want that, who fucking knows? ego I guess even though I feel I have far less of an ego than I did when I was far less proficient at poker.

Live tournament grinders have my respect. Gruelling thing they are and have definitely given me a lot of food for thought about all these people selling at big markups in the main event. I won't be buying in anyone for more than 1.3 this summer.

The guy I bust to today at least won the donkament. Likewise the guy who got there with AA vs my AA in the PLO also won that one.

With one event to go we have cashed for a total of 98,300 HKD. Hopefully we can treble that with the last tourney but it's a freeroll now...

Title: Re: Macau Asia Championship of Poker Series

Guys I missed today's tourney. I've been grinding perhaps a bit too hard and it caught up with me today. I just felt shitty and a bit run down. I decided I wouldn't play my best and opted to stay home and relax. If I'm feeling better which I likely will be by tomorrow I will replace the $8800 tournament with the $15,000 (HKD). (For sake of easyness etc there will only be markup charged on the first $8800 of the tournament as per the original OP.

Please can everyone confirm whether they are ok with that or not? If anyone doesn't answer I will go with majority decision which I assume will be a yes.

Guys my apologies. I felt pretty awful last night/yday and when I woke up today before the event I wasn't feeling good at all.  I didn't think it was wise to play if I wasn't sure that I could give my best.

Obviously the last event + markup will be refunded and then I will sending everyone transfers. Pokerstars is by far easier for me here than by bank.

Hopefully someone else can double check my working because if it's wrong it's unintentional!

$8,800 refund @ 1.25 = $11,000

PLO cash = $51,700

NL cash = $46,600

Total = $109,300

1% = 1093hkd = $141 USD according to today's XE rate.

Glad there is some profit on the stake but stll feels like one that could have been huge slipped away here.

Didn't realise they had free wifi here (they don't at the Wynn) so will be able to post during breaks.

get yourself a CTM sim card for $100 and a topup for $100, buy the data package for 168 HKD gives u 2gb for a month. plus you get some free macau calls
