Title: WPT 500 80/20
Post by: Rexas on November 10, 2014, 05:28:18 PM
Hello!

This is the first staking thread I've done for a while, and it is a bit of a long shot. However, given the fact that this tournament is likely to be the best event ever held in this country, I think it's worth a go.

The Proposal

I would like to sell 100% of my action for the upcoming wpt500 at an 80/20 split in the backers' favor, so 10% is £50.

Why buy?

As many of you will be aware, I am currently basically busto. Obviously this isn't a good start to any staking thread, but since January of this year I have cast aside some of my preconceptions and a lot of my ego, and have been studying pretty hard. As a result, I've ground my way up from online 10nl to 50nl, and have had some live tournament successes, including a 4th place finish in a WPT125 and deep runs in a Grand Prix and the Goliath. I feel that my improved work ethic is helping me improve consistently, and I hope it's only a matter of time until I'm back playing at the level I was a few years ago. This particular tournament will be incredible, with a field containing a wide range of ability, a huge prizepool in relation to the buy in, and a reasonable chance of overlay.

My hendon mobs (all cashes are mine except the WSOP ME cash)

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=169116 (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=169116)
http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=230190 (http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/player.php?a=r&n=230190)

If anyone would like any further stats, please feel free to PM me.

I will be providing updates throughout the tournament, which will hopefully be to at least half the standard of the recent "prawnidentity" threads.

IF BY SOME MIRACLE I WIN A SEAT TO THE £3k, ALL %'s WILL CARRY OVER TO THAT COMP.

Would take 30/40% if you change your mind and decide to sell at spot.

Just out of interest why do you consider it likely to be "the best event ever held in this country"?

is this a big lets ruin matt's thread party?

It's a good op and deserves a lil action. I'm in for £50 to have 8% assume %s roll into the £3k if you get a seat right?

In for £50 worth.

Unfortunately, my financial situation is such that I cant really justify putting £100 into a poker tournament (pretty much everything except the goliath that I've played this year has been from a satellite win). Being alive is surprisingly expensive :p

Just out of interest why do you consider it likely to be "the best event ever held in this country"?

Because of the huge prizepool relative to the buy in, a 7 figure guarantee for a 3 figure investment is something I've never seen before (I may be wrong). As a one off "punt", this has got to be one of the most exciting events ever held.

My fault for putting up a thread at this sort of mark-up, although I think it's worth a go!

Ty, booked :) Will try and edit OP to include the seat, forgot about that bit, will definitely be included!

Edit to OP if at all possible -

If we are fortunate enough to bink a 3k seat, any investments will roll over.

Having playing seven levels today I will agree there will not be a softer million pound prize pool in the uk ever than this. The only downside is 15% of the prize pool goes into an event which isn't going to be Grand Prix standard based on today's field

In for 10% please

Hey pal, I didn't take your post in a bad way at all. To be honest, I'm always kinda nervous when I put one of these things up. Like, I feel I'm worth investing in and I feel I'm +ev in the tournaments I sell for, but I don't necessarily feel like I've proved that enough to warrant people buying pieces of me. Very much enjoy having the chance to though! I'm always gonna appreciate it whenever people take the time to post on one of my staking threads either way :)

Don't think either of the posts came across badly.

Don't know OP and don't think we have met so its more a generalisation than him in particular but where has everyones gamble gone? If he really believes its best 1m comp ever etc then take a punt- beg, borrow, steal get some scratch together. If youre skint what difference another monkey on top- or at least a carpet/bottle, I mean yeah the missus might moan when you gotta buy the value vegetables or meat where its Russian roulette what animal its from- but we've all been there (well everyone I know) and you get out of it. You don't get out of it not taking shots though, borrow 5x£100, tell them you will pay them back when can. The £500 debt isn't going to change your life drastically, but winning the comp after taking a shot might. So what if the missus moans, the 50x moans will be replaced the minute you bink one anyway. Think even as a token gesture you should get £200 together somehow, take 40% yourself for ££, sell 50% 1.2 and you then have 50% of yourself for £200.

Gl

Post by: Dubai on November 10, 2014, 08:26:47 PM
Honestly think its better to take 100% of yourself when you are bang broke than when people sell for bankroll management. Take a shot, back your ability, plus its obviously fun to gamble anyway

Anything can happen in this game. Matt could easily spin up a few hundred tonight or tomorrow or something can happen that makes him change his mind so he might appreciate knowing that he could snap sell 70/80% to two buyers at a moments notice.

It wasn't like you're saying at all George.

I should've said I'll lend you the £100 difference.

Agree about the comp. Absolutely incred.

Right, so here's the team as it stands. I'm afraid I'm not as witty as Tom, so won't be using comical nicknames for my investors. This list also constitutes the people who will be freerolled in the post victory nandos mayhem.

SuuPRlim - 10% (£50)
scotty77 - 10% (£50)
arbboy - 10% (£50)
rfgqqabc - 10% (£50)
redsimon - 10% (£50)
Anonymous - 10% (£50)
verntwat158 - 5% (£25)
ripple11 - 5% (£25)
The Camel - 5% (£25)
RedFox - 5% (£25)
anon - 5% (£25)

15% left :)

Would like to confirm that noone has offended me in any way with any of their posts, this is nearly as popular as my diary was after the infamous "bowl comps" comment :p

Two options if you need the cash in order to play I will have to get eso Karl Dubai or redarmi to transfer on my behalf which I can try to do or I have made day 2 myself and will be there Saturday to pay in cash. If i can't do either then I will have to cancel at short notice. I have sent my phone number via pm if you want to text me. Let me know asap so I can try to arrange transfer by someone else. Slightly miss-step early, 3b our button with premium holdings vs a late position opener and decided to lose a small pot post. 26,500 going into 75/150/25

Ante at 75/150?

Yh, not sure I've seen that before but they repeat 75/150 with an ante second time round.

Opened A5 hh utg on what had been a tight table, got 93 million callers and turned the nuts on 457 3 A hhh. Over 40k.

Gl

god i fucking love Dubai.

Absolutely nothing of any interest has happened.

Just lost a reasonably big one where I really don't know what I should be doing on the river. Ended up bet foldingba rather good hand, down to just below 30k.

Particularly bad level 6, about to enter the break with around 26k.

Not going all that well, attempted a squeeze which did not get through but won a small one afterwards to stay at around 25k

Bricked out on a draw Btn v bb to go down to 12k, then got a few shoves through. Got 15/16k at 400/800.

Jammed JJ utg, got looked up by AQ, held to go to 34/35k. Seems I'm remembering how to win all ins, looking good for this stake :D

Done a small post mortem with Belton and agreed that I made a sub-optimal turn bet in an earlier hand. Will post a full report later :)

We made the mistake of getting QQ all in vs a shortie, who had 33. The dealer made a bigger mistake by letting us win. If we can win an all in with QQ, winning the comp is basically a given, so you might as well all send me your bank details now :p 61k or so at 600/1200.

Lost a pretty significant one to a very optimistic pre flop and turn call.

Unless something changes in the next two hands or so, we'll be hitting the break with just shy of 40k coming back to 1k/2k. Been basically completely card and spot dead for most of the back end of the day.

Sorry guys, just bust, jammed 15bbs from the co with 88, did not win vs the buttons QQ. Pretty frustrating, was spot abs card dead for most of the day and made a few small mistakes which didn't help.

Trip Report

Table

I spent the whole day on a table which didn't fit with the description I was getting about the field from everyone else. There were very few 4bs, no 5bs, noone showed down a crazy random bluff, it was actually a reasonable standard of play. I had Kev Houghton to my right, but otherwise noone else I recognised. Unfortunately, to my direct left, I had a guy called "Kane" who is apparently friends with Ludo and was bordering on the spewey side of aggressive post-flop at times (although the hands didn't show down, so he may have just had it every time, and noone seemed to adjust to how he was playing). Two to my left I had Morten Mortenson, who is just good. I ended up having to play a little tighter than I would have liked, and for the most part we left each other alone.

First Break

The first two levels were pretty boring, standard stuff. Everyone was folding a fair bit, noone was getting too ool, we barely played a hand. Antes kicked in at level 3, and lead to our first big hand. We open  Ahrt 5h utg to 450 at 75/150/25, and get 4 callers. We continue on a board of   4s 5h 7h to 1200, and get one caller. We continue on the  3h turn for 2500, get called again, and bet 10k on the Ac river and get paid by 5c 6d.

We also played a pot vs Kev where we 3b AKos from the button vs his late position open from 350 to 950, and see a flop of  Ts 7s 5h. Checked through the flop, checked through the Ac turn, and I called a bet of 1500 on the Qd river to lose to KJos.

Second Break

Nothing worthy of note happened until about 20 minutes before the break. I open AKos utg to 1000 at 200/400, and get called by the button. Flop came Kd 7s 5c, we c-bet to 1.5k, he calls. Turn is the Js, we continue for 3k, he calls. River is the 8d, we value bet 5k, he thinks for a bit and makes it 10k. This was a pretty weird one, had the guy tagged as being on the loose passive side, and didn't seem to have a particularly great handle on bet sizing and pot size, standard live player really. Bet the river for value from any K, which I'd be surprised to see fold and is going to make up a large amount of the villains range. After i folded, he told me he had a K with a shit kicker, which made me feel better about the fold assuming he paired said kicker at some point.

Third Break

Pretty much nothing remarkable happened for the first two levels. Was pretty card dead for most of the next two hours, lost a few small ones where we opened/3b and caught bad flops, attempted a squeeze with A10os to a loose early position opener who got a bunch of callers, ended up getting back-raised by Morten and just gave it up. Then won a small one BTN vs BB where I made a small hero call with third pair on a very wet board that bricked out and was good to be even for that session. Then, on the next orbit, I played another pot BTN vs BB where I opened Js Ts and bet two streets on Aspades 9c 4s (or something like that), and decided at the break that I probably check back most of my showdown value hands ott and bet most of my draws, making it quite easy for Morten to call turn pretty wide. Also given our stack size it allowed him to check/jam his draws and force us to fold a bunch of really good hands. We checked back the river and lost to Ac 3h, but should have lost about 4k less by not betting the turn, or attempted to win the pot by jamming the river. Still feel a river jam is completely unnecessary given the fact that this is the only name on the table, and going crazy on him where there were going to be a bunch of softer spots seemed spewey. So, bad turn bet from me. This took us down to 15bbs territory.

Got a few jams through, then found the double when I jammed around 17bbs utg with JJ and won vs AQ. Last hand of note in this level saw us call an early position open on the button by a guy who was playing a little too tight and very ABC with Qh  Jc. I called a c-bet on Tc 3c 4s, a board which just doesn't hit him at all, he's not going to suddenly go sick on, and one where we have backdoor everything so if he does happen to have something huge we can still find ways to win. It goes check/check on the Qc turn since we no longer need to bluff to win the pot, and I put out a small river bet on the 6c and wasn't called.

Fourth Break (getting into brag territory)

Got QQ in vs a short stack pretty early on and held to go to over 60k, and then basically failed to pick up a hand or a spot for the rest of our time in the tournament. Rather stupidly stuck a guy in who opened off 7bbs when I had KQ and unsurprisingly lost to AA, where anything other than folding is bad. Then opened Ahrt Th utg, got called by the SB who had been tight and played fine in the few hours he'd been at the table. Unfortunately he'd chosen this moment to get uncharacteristically optimistic with 7c 5c, and we didn't win on 58QKQ after betting the turn pretty big. This took us back to being short, and our bust out hand involved us jamming 15 or so bbs with 88 from the co and losing to the button's QQ.

Probably the most fun hand I saw of the day was one that happened in the last level I was at the table, and I wasn't even involved. Guy on my left opened utg, got called by the sb. Flop came  5c 6c 8s, I think the action went check/bet/raise/call. Turn was the 9s, action goes bet/raise/jam/call and when the cards get turned over its 7s 7h for a straight vs Tc Ts. Dealer duly pings the 7c for the two outer, and the pain from the guy on my left cheered me up an awful lot :p

Anyway, unfortunately all those shenanigans resulted in us not making day 2. Just want to thank everyone for investing again and say sorry for not doing better, really really wanted to pay out on this one, especially after I got so much support. Flame away on the HHs, and good luck to everyone left in!
