Title: Warm holiday destinations with some poker in dec/jan?
Post by: Woodsey on November 25, 2014, 11:14:13 PM
Contemplating buzzing off after xmas for 7-10 days, any ideas?

Bit of an all round destination with stuff to do and see as well as some poker at night without being too expensive would be ideal.

Many of the of the usual places are either cold or too expensive.

Phnom Phen is the only place that springs to mind, don't want to go to the Philippines, Florida is too expensive over the peak period. I know nothing about South America, any action in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia or South Africa?

TY in advance..

Ty for the suggestion, but I wanna go from like 26-28 dec for 7-10 days ideally. Gotta be back for work on the 7th Jan.

Doesn't have to be a festival or anything, just somewhere to play a bit of poker that isn't too big. 1/2 cash max and MTT $100 BI max.

Looks like there could be games in the Canary Islands.  Can't be many places cheaper or easier to get go that are warm?

Edit.  Just had a look it is more spring type weather than summer

Goa would be  a good choice by the sounds of it . Weather is perfect during those months and it's peak season so many things to do but a little more expensive at that time of year. Exchange rate is very favourable these days though.  I left India around 18 months ago but still have contacts at the casinos so just let me know if you intend going as the is entry fees to the casinos but I can get waived for you. There should be plenty of cash games available at the stakes you want but uncertain on tournaments . If you need any more info just let me know.
Happy hols

Cheers Craig.

Are they all located in one of the areas/beaches or scattered around? and what beach would be best to stay at location wise?

Also are the games fun or just full of local nits looking to scoop up tourist $$$? I know your not there right now but any info appreciated.  :)

Hi, all the casinos with live gaming are situated on the Mandovi river in Panaji (Panjim) which is the capital.. I could not tell you what the games are like these days but most of the pros have moved to Bangalore but the operators in Goa are trying to entice everyone back . Tournament schedules (India Poker Championship) is at the end of January.
Beach wise I would opt for accommodation in Candolim, Baga or Calungute. 30 minute drive to Casino.
it's  where all tourists stay mainly. Baga beach is not good though but there are others close by.
The best beaches are in the south but that's over an hour drive to the casino and 90 minutes to the decent nightlife in Baga. There are some good beaches also in the north which are around 30 minutes drive from Candolim.

Marrakesh? Not relaxing at all, but you might be able to get a comped room if you play enough poker?

Been before and wasn't overly fussed to go back to be honest mate. If I do go I think it will be Goa, I like India and have been meaning to go back for a while. Am moving house in the next couple of months, so it just depends what the timing is with that as to whether I go or not.

Malta could be a good option, I know they have a casino or 2 on the island and can vouch personally for the winter sun.
