I played this event last year and sold for it on Blonde here: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=63108.0

I satellited in once again on PokerStars, and I will be playing either Day 1B on the 26th January, or Day 1C on the 27th January.

I think my experience playing this tournament last year will be certainly be beneficial. Obviously it's quite an epic journey and all that, and some experience playing vs a mostly Australian field in the main and several side events can't be a bad thing.

It's generally accepted that this is one of the softest $10ks of the year. I certainly didn't think it was insanely-lets-sell-at-1.5-soft. But nor did I think "shit I'm surrounded by heroes". I'd say there's plenty of value in the field, but would imagine the tournament will be pretty tough by the latter stages.

I was planning to sell at a similar rate to last year, but I like round numbers :) so I'm going to go with a rate of 1.05

I've opted to play 1B. Got 11 hours sleep last night which was needed and feeling fresh and revved up.

I am on table 40, seat 3 and play is due to start in 15 minutes.

I am going to free up 3% and book Picken 2% and Langley 1% and hope that's ok with them.

I have 62% of myself as I swapped 5% with an Aussie reg in the day from which I qualified.

Morale took an early hit when I noticed there was no free swag this year. Last year got some pretty decent headphones and a chocolate bar!

But morale was quickly regained when I bumped into Simon and Shola.

Well it couldn't be going much worse.

30k starting, 50/100

Pot 1 -

1 limper, LJ iso to 400. We peel 79ss in HJ, BTN calls, limper calls.

963dds - iso'er bets 800. We call, BTN calls.

Turn As - iso'er checks, doesn't seem to like this card. We bet 2800. BTN peels, Iso'er peels.

River 8c - iso'er checks. Could go for it here but BTN could just have it and am unsure wtf opener now has and don't know if my read is wrong and he might station AK or something. Unfortunately a bet would very likely have worked as BTN checks back A3dd and iso'er had j8dd.

Pot 2 -

Open to 300, we peel BTN with 66, SB calls, BB (Chineese lady) makes it 1300. Everyone calls.

Flop 448. Checks to BB who quickly checks, checks to us. I feel like she's going to have AK etc plenty here and I'm not sure we have much option but to bet. I bet 2600 and BB now snap min raises, we fold.

Pot 3 -

SB opens to 300, we 3b BB with AK. He calls.

Flop Q74. I bet 800, he calls. Turn 6. I don't think I have to image to barrel off this card. He has plenty of queens and could get stubborn with eight, 7x. River deuce and we check to showdown and he has TT

Pot 4 -

Chineese lady opens CO. We peel BB with QJhh. KQ9hh. She bets 500 we call. Turn is 7s. She bets 1500, we call. River is 5s. We check, she bets 3k. FML. Plenty of good hands she can have but she could just  be putting pressure on all my one pair hands as it seems she has game. I'm aware of my losing image so I feel like she's probably more weighted to value bets and fold.

Pot 5 -

Youngish reggy guy opens EP. We peel BB with KQhh. Flop Qs9s7c. We check, he bets 450, we call. Turn 4d. We check, he bets 1200, we call. River Qd. Possible spot to donk  but I opted for a check. He bets 3200 on river, we call and he has AQ :(

So we are left at the end of level 1 with a measly 9.5k. I don't really think I've done much wrong. Obv wish I'd bet river in the 79s hand but think that's results orientated.

Morale obv pretty low but just going to play my game and hopefully can grind bk in it. Got to work with a shitty image as only the AK hand was showndown. Funnily enough I was super happy with table draw when we started.

UTG opens. BTN peels. SB peels. We peel 48s in BB.

Flop 67Tshc. Opener bets 1100, BTN peels, we peel.

Turn 5s. Zing. Opener bets 2200. BTN calls. We jam for 7.8k. Opener calls. BTN calls.

River 4d. SB donks 10k. UTG folds. I assume this means we are gg so my initial reaction is relief to find he has A8hh. This feeling of relief quickly subsides as I watch the massive pot getting chopped :(

We open CO 56dd. Blinds both peel. 24Tdcs. We c-bet 700. Both peel. 9c turn. Checks through. 3h river. Zing! BB bets 1.3k. I make it 3.9k. He eventually 3bets to 8400 and we move in for 13.5k total. He snaps with A5os.

Approx the same after level 3. Involved in plenty of 2/3k pots but nothing much North of that.

Sigh. Hand before dinner break we have 24k and open JJ to 750. CO 3bets to 2100 We've been pretty active. We anticipate a strong 3bing range from this guy but he did open Q5os in weird spot earlier so feel like there's a small chance he could be light. BB peels and we call. T94 rainbow. Checks to cutoff he bets 3.5k. BB sigh folds. Turn is an offsuit 8. We check. He bets 6k, we call. River is a big fat brick. We check, he semi-checks our stack and bets 9.5k or something and we have 12k which seems like a lol strong sizing.

Was virtually certain I was folding, but I decided to tank seeing as it was the hand before the break to see if he gave me any info. He eventually calls clock on me and it felt more like strength than anything. I fold.

He flashed his cards to a friend railing and I saw he had tens.

Unfortunately that leaves us with 12k going into 200/400(a).

There's a guy on the table whos standard open is 9x so we could get in a fun spot.

Open Ah Ks to 1k from 11k UTG (all hands we've been 7 or 8 handed). HJ peels. BB peels.

Flop K96cc. We bet 1.6k. HJ calls.

Turn Ac. We bet 3.2k with 5.1k back. HJ calls.

River 2c. We check and fold when put in. Couldnt think of one hand I beat. Given the situation and us having chatted he showed me his had which was QJcc.

The following hand the same guy opens to 1k in LJ. We defend KThh in BB and donk jam on 3h 4s 6h. He snap calls with red 55 and it runs out 5 turn offsuit 8 river.

So gutted. We had such a nice table with just one good reg. I'm not sure that I would do anything too much different. It felt like I just kept calling in spots where I can't really fold and just never got there in big pots aside from our initial rally back to starting stack. Maybe I could have folded jacks on the turn is the only hand I'm really dwelling on.
